t’s that time of year again.

Ballots and election materials for West Florida Electric Cooperative’s Board of Trustee Elections will be mailed on Thursday, March 26. Each WFEC member’s voting packet will arrive in an envelope marked: “Annual Election Materials.”

This packet will contain everything you will need to exercise your voting rights as a member-owner of WFEC. Seats on the board in Districts 4, 5 and 6 are up for election this year.

To be eligible to serve on the Board of Trustees, a candidate must be a member of the cooperative, reside in the respective district and meet certain requirements set forth in WFEC’s bylaws. Some qualifications include the ability to become bonded, capability of receiving emails and successfully meeting all the requirements needed to become a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Credentialed Cooperative Director within 36 months of being elected. Trustees serve a three-year term.

Each election packet will include: • A letter from Carr, Riggs and Ingram, Certified Public Accountants & Advisors, the certified public accounting firm that receives and counts all completed ballots and announces the results to ensure fairness.

WFEC's Medically Essential Service - Explained

W

est Florida Electric has a program for its members who require life support or other medical devices. WFEC does not guarantee uninterrupted service or assign priority status to members who depend on electrical equipment for medical necessity, but members can sign up for the co-op’s medically essential service list.

This service is used to contact members when there is a planned outage to perform routine maintenance or upgrade lines and equipment.

Even though WFEC does give these accounts special consideration during planned outages, damages to our power distribution system must be repaired first during emergency situations before attention can be turned to individual accounts.

When severe storms hit our area, there is no way to determine how long electric service will be disrupted, so it is very important for WFEC members who require life support or other medical devices to make arrangements for their medical needs in advance. Members with critical care needs are strongly encouraged to have backup plans to move to locations with power during an emergency or have a generator on hand for their use.

To sign up for medically essential service, you must have your doctor complete a medically essential service form located on the co-op’s website.

These forms can also be picked up at any district office. Medically essential forms expire one year from the date of application, so members must renew this form annually.

2020 Youth Tour Winners & Scholarship Recipients Announced

A

junior from Malone School, Elijah Larry and Chipley High School junior, Nadia Kent were named West Florida Electric’s Youth Tour competition winners on February 18. Kristen Rushing from Holmes County High School was named the alternate.

These students will represent WFEC on the National Rural Electric Youth Tour June 20-25, traveling to Washington, D.C. with over 30 other Florida students. They will join over 1,600 high school juniors in D.C. representing co-ops from across the country.

Ten area students participated in the Youth Tour program this year.

They were: Addison O’Bryan, Altha School; Alyssa Brown, Bethlehem School; Morgan Yoder, Blountstown High School; Nadia Kent, Chipley High School; Josie Scott, Cottondale High School; Troy Daniels, Graceville High School; Kristen Rushing, Holmes County High School; Elijah Larry, Malone School; Rebecca Mercer, Marianna High School and Kayla Rister, Poplar Springs School.

Natalie Holton, a junior at Poplar Springs High School, is the daughter of Shannon Holton, an employee of the cooperative. She

competed in a separate essay competition for the children of employees, sponsored by the Florida Rural Electric Cooperatives Association. The winner of this essay competition wins a trip to Washington, D.C. and becomes the representative for the rural electric cooperatives of Florida. Holton did extremely well in this competition.

The cooperative’s Board of Trustees has created a scholarship program linked to Youth Tour participation. Each year, a scholarship of $4,000 to Chipola College is awarded to the highest scoring participant from each county. These scholarship recipients were: Addison O’Bryan, Calhoun

Prepare NOW Before Storms Leave You in the Dark

ou depend on reliable power. We’re here to provide that power 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. But if an outage should occur, rest assured that we’re here to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

If you experience an outage, you can quickly and easily report it by calling 844-688-2431 (844-OUTAGE1). Consider keeping the outage number in your contacts list, so you’ll have it handy if you need it.

Before reporting an outage, first check to see if your neighbors’ power is out. If their lights are on, check your fuse box or circuit breaker to make sure the problem isn’t a blown fuse or a tripped breaker. If this is not the issue, please report your outage.

Also, be sure to update your phone number with us by contacting a member service representative. Our reporting system uses the phone number listed on your account to find your account information. During the outage reporting process, if you input your cell phone number but your landline is the only number on your account, the system will have a harder time locating your account information. This may delay our response time to your outage. If there are multiple residents in your home, make sure each number that could be used to report an outage is listed on your account.

WFEC's Medically Essential Service - Explained

W

est Florida Electric has a program for its members who require life support or other medical devices. WFEC does not guarantee uninterrupted service or assign priority status to members who depend on electrical equipment for medical necessity, but members can sign up for the co-op’s medically essential service list.

This service is used to contact members when there is a planned outage to perform routine maintenance or upgrade lines and equipment.

Even though WFEC does give these accounts special consideration during planned outages, damages to our power distribution system must be repaired first during emergency situations before attention can be turned to individual accounts.

When severe storms hit our area, there is no way to determine how long electric service will be disrupted, so it is very important for WFEC members who require life support or other medical devices to make arrangements for their medical needs in advance. Members with critical care needs are strongly encouraged to have backup plans to move to locations with power during an emergency or have a generator on hand for their use.

To sign up for medically essential service, you must have your doctor complete a medically essential service form located on the co-op’s website.

These forms can also be picked up at any district office. Medically essential forms expire one year from the date of application, so members must renew this form annually.

t’s that time of year again.

Ballots and election materials for West Florida Electric Cooperative’s Board of Trustee Elections will be mailed on Thursday, March 26. Each WFEC member’s voting packet will arrive in an envelope marked: “Annual Election Materials.”

This packet will contain everything you will need to exercise your voting rights as a member-owner of WFEC. Seats on the board in Districts 4, 5 and 6 are up for election this year.

To be eligible to serve on the Board of Trustees, a candidate must be a member of the cooperative, reside in the respective district and meet certain requirements set forth in WFEC’s bylaws. Some qualifications include the ability to become bonded, capability of receiving emails and successfully meeting all the requirements needed to become a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Credentialed Cooperative Director within 36 months of being elected. Trustees serve a three-year term.

Each election packet will include: • A letter from Carr, Riggs and Ingram, Certified Public Accountants & Advisors, the certified public accounting firm that receives and counts all completed ballots and announces the results to ensure fairness.

He served as the District 5 Trustee for WFEC since 2019, currently serves as Chairman for the Panhandle Public Library Cooperative in Jackson County & is an active member of Rock Hill Church. After Graduating from Chipley High School, Corbin served as the County Administrator for the Washington County Board of County Commissioners for 36 years before retiring.
