Save the date for West Florida Electric Cooperative's Annual Meeting/ Member Appreciation Day which will take place in-person on Saturday, April 23. The Board of Trustees and employees invite all members to join us at the Graceville Civic Center (5224 Brown Street, Graceville) from 8:00 a.m. until noon.

Some of the activities planned for members throughout the day include a health fair with vendors conducting various health screenings.

Entertainment will be provided by local gospel group, The Thompsons.

They carry on a family musical legacy as a second generation gospel group.

The Thompsons sing and play anything from praise and worship songs to old hymns from your church hymnal. Their hope is that everyone is touched by the words of their songs and sees God work in their lives. You won't want to miss them.

There will also be door prizes, registration gifts and food to round out the day's festivities. We hope to see you there!

im Alford, District 2 Trustee, has earned his Director Gold Credential certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).

An ever-changing business environment has imposed new demands on electric cooperative directors, requiring increased knowledge of changes in the electric utility business, new governance skills and a solid knowledge of the cooperative principles and business model. Electric cooperatives in Florida have a commitment to work through the Florida Electric Cooperatives Association (FECA) and NRECA to sharpen this body of knowledge for the benefit of their electric cooperative member-owners.

Director Gold Credential (DGC) recognizes directors who have already earned their Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) and Board Leadership Certificate (BLC) and who wish to continue to learn throughout their service on the board.

"The Director Gold certificate is geared toward directors, like Tim, who are committed to continuing their education beyond CCD and BLC and who desire a tangible credential that reinforces their stature as part of an experienced and educated group of trustees," said Ty Peel, Executive Vice President and CEO. Moving? Don't Forget to Update Your Account Info

A

re you moving or have you recently moved or changed your phone number? Don't forget to update your account information with West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) and any other companies you do business with.

Most of us never consider the importance of updating our information with companies we do business with, but it is very important! Especially with your electric cooperative. Why? Well, one reason is that the co-op uses your phone number to identify your account and location when there are outages. Have you called and our automated system answered? When the automated system answers your call, it's because we are experiencing an extremely high volume of calls due to an outage.

The first thing our system does is try to recognize your phone number and link it to an account and location. This helps with our power restoration efforts. If the automated system does answer, and you are calling from a different number than is listed on your account, the system won't recognize your location. This could delay your power restoration during an outage.

You don't want that to happen, and neither do we, so please make sure all of your account information is completely up-to-date.

Another great reason to make sure your information is updated is for your security. Each time a member sets up a new account, the last four digits of the social security number listed on the account are verified. The correct mailing address and a good phone number are also needed when setting up new service or requesting a change or addition to the services the cooperative is providing.

Safety is another crucial reason the information on your account needs to be updated and correct.

Having accurate information on file at the co-op is critical if a hazardous situation occurs. This is especially important if the location is a vacation home, campsite, or if the member lives out of town.

It's really quite easy to make sure your account information is updated - sometimes as simple as picking up the phone. You can call any district office to make simple changes like updating your phone number or address.

You can also update your information on our website or using our mobile app.

Here's how: Use your username and password to log in to either the app or online member portal. Then look for the "Manage Your Account" field.

Click on the "My Account" tab and select the "Account Profile" option.

Then, you can update any phone numbers or other information associated with your account, including your address.

Our automated phone system is another way to make updates. Call 1-855-MYWFECA (855-699-3322) and select option #4 to update or change your phone number or speak with a member services representative next time you are in the office or drive-thru. They will be happy to assist you with making any changes to your account information.

n accordance with Article IV, Section 3, of West Florida Electric Cooperative’s bylaws, WFEC appointed a nominating committee to identify interested and qualified members to be candidates for the board of trustees. The deadline for submitting nominations was Tuesday, February 22 at noon as stated in the February Current Light Flashes publication which was mailed on February 3, 2022 along with contact information for the nominating committee. Trustees in Districts 1, 2 and 3 garnered no opposition this year and therefore each will return to their respective seat on the WFEC Board of Trustees.

The 2022 Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Graceville Civic Center. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

Ingredients:

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa 1/4 cup boiling water 2 cups sugar 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened 1 cup (8 oz.) sour cream 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cups plain flour 11/2 teaspoon vanilla 5 egg whites 1 (16 oz.) can chocolate frosting

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees & flour two 9" round cake pans. Combine the cocoa powder & boiling water in a bowl. Stir until cocoa is dissolved, about 30 seconds. Combine the sugar & butter in a large bowl. Beat with electric mixer until light and fluffy, 1-2 minutes. Add cocoa mixture and mix one minute longer. Beat in sour cream, vanilla and baking soda. Add flour and salt and mix for one minute. Beat egg whites in a medium bowl until stiff peaks form, 2-3 minutes. Fold into batter. Spoon batter into prepared cake pans. Bake 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool & frost cake.

2022 Youth Tour Winners & Scholarship Recipients Announced

A

fter a year's break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Florida Electric Cooperatives Association Youth Tour trip to Tallahassee was able to make its comeback February 16-17, 2022.

Nine area students participated in the Youth Tour program this year.

They were: Haylee Tillman, Altha School; Kaden Lemieux, Bethlehem School; Kat Blackburn, Blountstown High School; Cass Dillard, Chipley High School; Haven White, Cottondale High School; Olivia Garlington, Graceville High School; Amari Williams, Malone School; Noah Mercer, Marianna High School and Gracyn Johnson from Sneads.

Brayden Whitehead, a junior at Cottonwood High School, is the grandson of Susie Johnson, an employee of the cooperative. He competed in a separate essay competition for the children and grandchildren of employees, sponsored by the Florida Rural Electric Cooperatives Association. The winner of this essay competition wins a trip to Washington, D.C. and becomes the representative for the rural electric

cooperatives of Florida. Whitehead placed second in this competition and will serve as alternate should the first place winner be unable to attend the trip to Washington.

On February 22, those nine students participated in an interview competition and two of them were chosen to represent West Florida Electric on the trip to Washington, D.C. this summer. A junior at Cottondale High School, Haven White, and Marianna High School junior, Noah Mercer were named West Florida Electric’s Youth Tour

competition winners that day. Kat Blackburn from Blountstown High School was named alternate.

These students will represent WFEC on the National Rural Electric Youth Tour June 14-19, traveling to Washington, D.C. with over 30 other Florida students. They will join hundreds of other high school juniors in D.C. representing co-ops from across the country.

The cooperative’s Board of Trustees has also created a scholarship program linked to Youth Tour participation. Each year, a scholarship of $4,000 to Chipola College is awarded to the highest scoring participant from each county. These scholarship recipients were: Kat Blackburn, Calhoun County; Kaden Lemieux, Holmes County; Haven White, Jackson County and Cass Dillard, Washington County. These students were recognized at a banquet on March 1. Look for their photos in the April issue of Current Light Flashes.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa 1/4 cup boiling water 2 cups sugar 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened 1 cup (8 oz.) sour cream 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cups plain flour 11/2 teaspoon vanilla 5 egg whites 1 (16 oz.) can chocolate frosting

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees & flour two 9" round cake pans. Combine the cocoa powder & boiling water in a bowl. Stir until cocoa is dissolved, about 30 seconds. Combine the sugar & butter in a large bowl. Beat with electric mixer until light and fluffy, 1-2 minutes. Add cocoa mixture and mix one minute longer. Beat in sour cream, vanilla and baking soda. Add flour and salt and mix for one minute. Beat egg whites in a medium bowl until stiff peaks form, 2-3 minutes. Fold into batter. Spoon batter into prepared cake pans. Bake 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool & frost cake.

Moving? Don't Forget to Update Your Account Info

A

re you moving or have you recently moved or changed your phone number? Don't forget to update your account information with West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) and any other companies you do business with.

Most of us never consider the importance of updating our information with companies we do business with, but it is very important! Especially with your electric cooperative. Why? Well, one reason is that the co-op uses your phone number to identify your account and location when there are outages. Have you called and our automated system answered? When the automated system answers your call, it's because we are experiencing an extremely high volume of calls due to an outage.

The first thing our system does is try to recognize your phone number and link it to an account and location. This helps with our power restoration efforts. If the automated system does answer, and you are calling from a different number than is listed on your account, the system won't recognize your location. This could delay your power restoration during an outage.

You don't want that to happen, and neither do we, so please make sure all of your account information is completely up-to-date.

Another great reason to make sure your information is updated is for your security. Each time a member sets up a new account, the last four digits of the social security number listed on the account are verified. The correct mailing address and a good phone number are also needed when setting up new service or requesting a change or addition to the services the cooperative is providing.

Safety is another crucial reason the information on your account needs to be updated and correct.

Having accurate information on file at the co-op is critical if a hazardous situation occurs. This is especially important if the location is a vacation home, campsite, or if the member lives out of town.

It's really quite easy to make sure your account information is updated - sometimes as simple as picking up the phone. You can call any district office to make simple changes like updating your phone number or address.

You can also update your information on our website or using our mobile app.

Here's how: Use your username and password to log in to either the app or online member portal. Then look for the "Manage Your Account" field.

Click on the "My Account" tab and select the "Account Profile" option.

Then, you can update any phone numbers or other information associated with your account, including your address.

Our automated phone system is another way to make updates. n accordance with Article IV, Section 3, of West Florida Electric Cooperative’s bylaws, WFEC appointed a nominating committee to identify interested and qualified members to be candidates for the board of trustees. The deadline for submitting nominations was Tuesday, February 22 at noon as stated in the February Current Light Flashes publication which was mailed on February 3, 2022 along with contact information for the nominating committee. Trustees in Districts 1, 2 and 3 garnered no opposition this year and therefore each will return to their respective seat on the WFEC Board of Trustees.

The 2022 Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Graceville Civic Center. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

Save the date for West Florida Electric Cooperative's Annual Meeting/ Member Appreciation Day which will take place in-person on Saturday, April 23. The Board of Trustees and employees invite all members to join us at the Graceville Civic Center (5224 Brown Street, Graceville) from 8:00 a.m. until noon.

Some of the activities planned for members throughout the day include a health fair with vendors conducting various health screenings.

Entertainment will be provided by local gospel group, The Thompsons.

They carry on a family musical legacy as a second generation gospel group.

The Thompsons sing and play anything from praise and worship songs to old hymns from your church hymnal. Their hope is that everyone is touched by the words of their songs and sees God work in their lives. You won't want to miss them.

There will also be door prizes, registration gifts and food to round out the day's festivities. We hope to see you there!
