fter forty one years at West Florida Electric Cooperative, Russell Dunaway has retired.

His last day at the cooperative was January 2.

His career at WFEC began in September of 1977 when he was hired as the Director of Member Services.

During his long career at the co-op, Dunaway served its members in various capacities including Office Manager, Director of Financial & Staff Services, Director of Finance & Administration, Russell Dunaway, EVP & CEO Vice President of Finance & Administration, Interim Executive Vice President & CEO, and finally, as Executive Vice President & CEO, a position he accepted in November 2014. 57741006 “I will forever be indebted to the employees and board for the opportunity to work with each of them over the years,” said Dunaway in a memo announcing his decision to retire.

Community Calendar Open Auditions for Smoke on the Mountain January 7-8; 6:00 p.m. nightly Spanish Trail Playhouse, 680 2nd Street, Chipley The Spanish Trail Playhouse will hold open auditions for Smoke on the Mountain on January 7-8 at 6:00 p.m. This play, directed by local, Mil Cox, tells the story of a Saturday Night Gospel Sing at a country church in North Carolina's Smoky Mountains in 1938. The show features two dozen rousing bluegrass songs played and sung by the Sanders Family, a traveling group making its return to performing after a five-year hiatus.

Pastor Oglethorpe, the young and enthusiastic minister of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, has enlisted the Sanders Family in his efforts to bring his tiny congregation into the "modern world." Between songs, each family member "witnesses" - telling a story about an important event in their life. Though they try to appear perfect in the eyes of the congregation who wants to be inspired by their songs, one thing after another goes awry and they reveal their true - and hilariously imperfect natures. By the evening's end, the Sanders Family have endeared themselves to use by revealing their weaknesses and allowing us to share their triumphs. This play will hit the stage March 1-3, 2019 and is produced through special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. For more info visit www.spanishtrailplayhouse.com.

Coconut Pecan Pound Cake

Ingredients: 2 cups sugar 3 cups plain flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1 cup oil 1 cup buttermilk 2 teaspoons coconut flavoring 1 cup coconut 4 eggs Directions: Cook 1 hour, 5 minutes on 325 degrees (remember ovens vary, so check after about 45 minutes).

When done, glaze.

Glaze: 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 2 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon coconut flavoring Boil 5 minutes & pour over cake.

Peel Appointed Interim EVP & CEO

T

y Peel has been appointed Interim Executive Vice President & CEO by the Board of Trustees. His appointment was effective January 3, 2019.

A native of Washington County, Peel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served four years as a member of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 235. During his military career, he earned his pilot’s license and attended the Marine Corps NCO Academy.

After his military service, Peel began his career at West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) on January 4, 1982. His 37-year career began in the right-of-way department, but by the fall of 1982, he moved into the role of Energy Advisor. As an energy advisor, he performed energy audits for members and provided advice about how to conserve energy or make home improvements to assist homeowner’s with saving energy and money.

In 1985, he assumed the role of safety director where he was responsible for safety policy, monitoring safety incidents and ensuring the overall safety of the workplace. He was also responsible for ensuring the cooperative was in compliance with all OSHA and other state, local and industry safety regulations. Ensuring all employees received safety training and conducting electrical safety demonstrations were also part of his duties. After working as safety director, he became the Manager of Transportation & Safety, later moving into the position of Manager of Loss Control. 80744002 In 1991, Peel made the decision to join the Air Force Reserve Special Operations Unit at Duke Field. While in the Air Force Reserves, he had the opportunity to attend the Staff NCO Academy as well as the Vincennes University (Community College of the Air Force). During his tenure as Manager of Loss Control, his Air Force Reserve Unit was deployed as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was stationed in parts of Southeast Asia including Pakistan and Afghanistan from 2001-2002. After serving his country during the war on terrorism, Peel came home and took on the role of Vice President of Engineering & Operations at WFEC – a role he held until being appointed Interim EVP & CEO. In 2006, he made the decision to leave the reserves and focus solely on his career at WFEC. At that time, he had earned the rank of Master Sergeant.

From his military experience and career at WFEC, Peel has demonstrated leadership experience and earned industry certifications. He is a graduate of the Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program Certificate (MIP), a program comprised of 189 business management and organization course hours. It provides in-depth analysis of the functions and processes of co-op management. MIP is held in the Fluno Center for Executive Management at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has also obtained the Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA) certification from the National Safety Council. CUSA is awarded to those who complete the Certified Utility Safety Program.

In addition to his service to the members of WFEC, Peel is also actively involved in the communities served by the co-op. He is currently a member of the Capital City Bank Board, where he has served for the past 11 years.

He is also Past-Chairman of the Tri-County Airport Authority Board, a board he was part of for approximately 10 years, and the Orange Hill Water & Soil Conservation Board where he served for about eight years.

Ty and his wife, Marie, reside on his great-grandfather’s homestead in Washington County where he owns and operates a timber and small cattle operation.

The first thing our system does is try to recognize your phone number and link it to an account and location. This helps us with our restoration efforts. If the automated system does answer, and you are calling from a different number than is listed on your account, the system won’t recognize your location. This could delay your power restoration during a storm. You don’t want that to happen and neither do we, so please make sure all of your account information is completely up-to-date.

Another great reason to make sure your information is updated is for security purposes. Each time a member sets up a new account, the last four digits of the social security number listed on the account are verified. The correct mailing address and a good phone number are also needed when setting up new service or requesting a change or addition to the services the cooperative is providing.

Safety is another very important reason the information on your account needs to be correct. Having accurate information on file at the co-op is crucial if a hazardous situation occurs. This is especially important if the location is a vacation home, campsite or if the member lives out of town. 102042001 It’s really quite easy to make sure your account information is updated – sometimes, as simple as picking up the phone. You can call any district office to make simple changes like updating your phone number or address.

You can also update your information on our website. Here’s how: Visit www.westflorida.coop and look for the “Manage Your Account” field. Use your username and password to log in – if this is the first time you are using this service, you must call the office to obtain a username and password. Once you have them, follow the prompts to enter the member portal. After logging in, click on the “My Account” tab and then select the “Account Profile” option and update any phone numbers associated with your account. You can also update your address and other account info under this tab.

Another great reason to make sure your information is updated is for security purposes. Each time a member sets up a new account, the last four digits of the social security number listed on the account are verified. The correct mailing address and a good phone number are also needed when setting up new service or requesting a change or addition to the services the cooperative is providing.

Safety is another very important reason the information on your account needs to be correct. Having accurate information on file at the co-op is crucial if a hazardous situation occurs. This is especially important if the location is a vacation home, campsite or if the member lives out of town. 102042001 It’s really quite easy to make sure your account information is updated – sometimes, as simple as picking up the phone. You can call any district office to make simple changes like updating your phone number or address.

You can also update your information on our website. Here’s how: Visit www.westflorida.coop and look for the “Manage Your Account” field. Use your username and password to log in – if this is the first time you are using this service, you must call the office to obtain a username and password. Once you have them, follow the prompts to enter the member portal. After logging in, click on the “My Account” tab and then select the “Account Profile” option and update any phone numbers associated with your account. You can also update your address and other account info under this tab.

Our automated phone system is another quick way to make updates. From his military experience and career at WFEC, Peel has demonstrated leadership experience and earned industry certifications. He is a graduate of the Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program Certificate (MIP), a program comprised of 189 business management and organization course hours. It provides in-depth analysis of the functions and processes of co-op management. MIP is held in the Fluno Center for Executive Management at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has also obtained the Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA) certification from the National Safety Council. CUSA is awarded to those who complete the Certified Utility Safety Program.

In addition to his service to the members of WFEC, Peel is also actively involved in the communities served by the co-op. He is currently a member of the Capital City Bank Board, where he has served for the past 11 years.

He is also Past-Chairman of the Tri-County Airport Authority Board, a board he was part of for approximately 10 years, and the Orange Hill Water & Soil Conservation Board where he served for about eight years.

Ty and his wife, Marie, reside on his great-grandfather’s homestead in Washington County where he owns and operates a timber and small cattle operation.

Peel Appointed Interim EVP & CEO

T

y Peel has been appointed Interim Executive Vice President & CEO by the Board of Trustees. His appointment was effective January 3, 2019.

A native of Washington County, Peel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served four years as a member of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 235. During his military career, he earned his pilot’s license and attended the Marine Corps NCO Academy.

After his military service, Peel began his career at West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) on January 4, 1982. His 37-year career began in the right-of-way department, but by the fall of 1982, he moved into the role of Energy Advisor. As an energy advisor, he performed energy audits for members and provided advice about how to conserve energy or make home improvements to assist homeowner’s with saving energy and money.

In 1985, he assumed the role of safety director where he was responsible for safety policy, monitoring safety incidents and ensuring the overall safety of the workplace. He was also responsible for ensuring the cooperative was in compliance with all OSHA and other state, local and industry safety regulations. Ensuring all employees received safety training and conducting electrical safety demonstrations were also part of his duties. After working as safety director, he became the Manager of Transportation & Safety, later moving into the position of Manager of Loss Control. 80744002 In 1991, Peel made the decision to join the Air Force Reserve Special Operations Unit at Duke Field. While in the Air Force Reserves, he had the opportunity to attend the Staff NCO Academy as well as the Vincennes University (Community College of the Air Force). During his tenure as Manager of Loss Control, his Air Force Reserve Unit was deployed as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was stationed in parts of Southeast Asia including Pakistan and Afghanistan from 2001-2002. After serving his country during the war on terrorism, Peel came home and took on the role of Vice President of Engineering & Operations at WFEC – a role he held until being appointed Interim EVP & CEO. In 2006, he made the decision to leave the reserves and focus solely on his career at WFEC. At that time, he had earned the rank of Master Sergeant.

Community Calendar Open Auditions for Smoke on the Mountain January 7-8; 6:00 p.m. nightly Spanish Trail Playhouse, 680 2nd Street, Chipley The Spanish Trail Playhouse will hold open auditions for Smoke on the Mountain on January 7-8 at 6:00 p.m. This play, directed by local, Mil Cox, tells the story of a Saturday Night Gospel Sing at a country church in North Carolina's Smoky Mountains in 1938. The show features two dozen rousing bluegrass songs played and sung by the Sanders Family, a traveling group making its return to performing after a five-year hiatus.

Pastor Oglethorpe, the young and enthusiastic minister of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, has enlisted the Sanders Family in his efforts to bring his tiny congregation into the "modern world." Between songs, each family member "witnesses" - telling a story about an important event in their life. Though they try to appear perfect in the eyes of the congregation who wants to be inspired by their songs, one thing after another goes awry and they reveal their true - and hilariously imperfect natures. By the evening's end, the Sanders Family have endeared themselves to use by revealing their weaknesses and allowing us to share their triumphs. Coconut Pecan Pound Cake

Ingredients: 2 cups sugar 3 cups plain flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1 cup oil 1 cup buttermilk 2 teaspoons coconut flavoring 1 cup coconut 4 eggs Directions: Cook 1 hour, 5 minutes on 325 degrees (remember ovens vary, so check after about 45 minutes).

When done, glaze.

Glaze: 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 2 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon coconut flavoring Boil 5 minutes & pour over cake.

fter forty one years at West Florida Electric Cooperative, Russell Dunaway has retired.

His last day at the cooperative was January 2.

His career at WFEC began in September of 1977 when he was hired as the Director of Member Services.

During his long career at the co-op, Dunaway served its members in various capacities including Office Manager, Director of Financial & Staff Services, Director of Finance & Administration, Russell Dunaway, EVP & CEO Vice President of Finance & Administration, Interim Executive Vice President & CEO, and finally, as Executive Vice President & CEO, a position he accepted in November 2014. 57741006 “I will forever be indebted to the employees and board for the opportunity to work with each of them over the years,” said Dunaway in a memo announcing his decision to retire.

The Board of Trustees appointed Ty Peel to serve as Interim Executive Vice President & CEO beginning January 3.
