September 2022 EDITORIAL - James Warrener Welcome to another month of change in the world of Weymouth Football Club. “The one thing that never changes in football is the need for change” With his local connections to me up here in the Midlands, I wanted David Oldfield to succeed (just as I wanted Brian Stock to do well as he was always available for interviews and newsletter content). I think, though, that it was clear that a change was needed based on the results on the pitch So it farewell to David and hello to Bobby Wilkinson. He is a manager that has been on the radar for a while now with his success at Hungerford most notable. Welcome to the club Bobby. None of us are under any illusions on how big his job is. But I think that one thing WFC fans can never be criticised for is their support of the team between the whistles. Long may that continue. We might be in the doldrums footballing wise and in a rebuild off the pitch, but things change in football quickly. Let’s keep doing our bit and contribute to the return of the good times. Naturally the need for resource to be raised has come at the worst possible time. Inflation and the run-up to Christmas are all things that families, rightly, should put first. So we have to be creative in our methods of getting the club back on track. No idea is a bad idea. So share them and let’s try them. My fingers are crossed that we can get that much needed boost of an upturn in form shortly and that we can start to think more long term and strategically. The recent case of Worcester Warriors Rugby Union Club is a massive wake up call for all sports clubs post covid. Having been close to their predicament a number of times with the Terras my thoughts are with the fans and local businesses who will be out of pocket as a result of that clubs demise.
