June 2021

2018/2019 Southern League Champions 2019/2020 National League South play off winners. Season 2020/2021 has ended with Weymouth finishing 18th, our highest position since 2006/2007 and matching 2007/2008s finish. Looking back on those old Conference days, especially the turmoil of 2007/2008 is a great way of grounding ourselves. The damage done to the club during the latter days of our time in the Conference before the tumble straight through Conference South left deep emotional and financial scarring on Weymouth FC which has taken the best part of a generation to resolve. It’s mentioned elsewhere this month but to have finished in a position in the table where we wouldn’t have been relegated under any circumstances is an achievement that should make the players and volunteers at the club very proud. But to stick or twist? That is the current predicament facing those in power at the Bob Lucas and if we twist, at what pace should we look to take the plunge and move full time? Not easy and decisions should be given due time and consideration. I know that doesn’t sit right with some supporters, I get that. But the club has to come first and not egos or personal agendas. We don’t want that for Weymouth FC. Finally I would like to offer thanks to those departing the club. There are numerous players but I would like to highlight Jake McCarthy. His goal at Barnet was the last I saw in the flesh pre-pandemia and it was a ripper as well. Danny Webb has left from his post as head of analysis. Those of you on business social media network LinkedIn will have seen the clubs advert, so I would advise you to get sharing it and help the club find the right person for the role.
