2018/2019 Southern League Champions 2019/2020 National League South play off winners.

It almost came home didn’t it?

Despite the ultimate disappointment of losing the EURO 2020 final, there is plenty to be positive about in the game in England.

I would hope that the performances and results our national team gathered across the summer, including that never to be forgotten win over Germany, will be enough to ignite further interest in our game.

Weymouth FC, along with all other clubs, will be holding their breath to see if the turnstiles will click that little bit more often with people being cautiously allowed out to see some live sport and having been inspired by Gareth Southgate and his team.

With the amount of attacking talent signed this off season by our Manager, Brian Stock, I am feeling confident that fans new and old will be entertained with flair and passion from their side during this campaign.

Brandon Goodship needs no introduction other than to say we are so grateful to have him back at the ground he made his name. Brad Ash has certainly hit the ground running and Tom Bearwish could be the local influence in the side to replace Ash Wells and Brennan Camp. .

Throw in Akheem Rose and Ben Thomson and I hope that we will not be goal shy in 2021/2022.

That’s not to say that there is no spine to this squad. Ross Fitzsimmons will compete for the starting goalkeeper spot with Gerard Benfield and there is genuine excitement in the likely partnership between Ben Morgan and Tyler Cordner.

I can’t wait to get started and even though I have been through enough football seasons to know that there will be twists and turns and ups and downs, that won’t stop me being excited !

Let’s enjoy this journey together, up the Terras !!!!

Chairman's Update Welcome to the latest issue of our monthly newsletter and I hope it finds you all fit and well and looking forward to the new season which gets under way in a little over a months time?

I write these notes the day after our first pre-season friendly against our good friends Portland United. If you attended, and there was a fantastic turn out, you saw a very dominant display from the new look Terras squad. It is early days of course, but we will need to continue working hard to ensure we consolidate our status in the National League. Take a moment to look at the fixture list, some big clubs in there!

There is much that you can do to help support the club. As was stated when the season ticket prices were announced, we can only spend the money that we raise, so we need to raise as much as we can to help fund the club at this level! You can play the Claret & Blue Lottery, which gives you the opportunity to win cash prizes, the more players, the bigger the prize fund, whilst at the same time helping increase the playing budget. You can participate in Wessex Fantasy Football which again directly funds the playing budget. So give it some thought, and if you can help that would be great. Maybe convince some friends to give their local team a try, boost the crowd and coffers at the same time!

One thing we will have to work hard on is funding away travel so that we can get some Terras fans to those far flung away games, there are enough of them. We will of course do all we can to support the away travel and we are working on ideas. How would you feel about paying an extra £5 for your replica shirt? Instead of £40, £45 with the added £5 going towards supporting the away travel. We would really like your views, ideas and feedback so get in touch via enquiries@wfcsa.co.uk and we will get back to you. (Shirts both home and away are on order and as soon as they are available we will let you know. The delay is beyond our control.)

Before I sign off this month, an update on the club shop move. We will be setting up temporarily just inside the turnstiles so we are easy to find. It will be a bit different but bear with us. We are planning a permanent location but have been somewhat thwarted by the availability of materials so like a lot of things, we are having to make the best of it in the interim.

Terras Legends #1 - Stewart Yetton Terras Times Editor James Warrener sat down for a chat with the great man for this months edition of the newsletter.

Do you remember your first spell at the Terras and why you joined

Yes I was 17 and Steve Claridge was manager and I think he had a 3 game ban and needed cover for himself. I travelled up with Lee Phillips and Martin Barlow both of whom had previously been at Argyle which is where I was at the time. Both of whom I remain in touch with still today and are top blokes as well as footballers.

What did it mean to be captain of the club

Being the captain was the proudest part of my footballing career, winning trophies and medals is why we play the game but to lead such a big club was a huge thing for me personally and I loved all the players and cared about them individually.

The fans at Weymouth are second to none and I just loved every minute of being a Terra. Winning the chicken in the meat raffle on the coach journey home just can’t be replicated anywhere. As Brian would say “chicken, boned and rolled” My daughter cried when you left the club, were you equally upset

Devastated to leave, I was very hurt about it but that’s football.

Do you still keep in touch with any players of that era?

I stay in touch with lots of the players, there were so many good lads in the squad. Coppy and Stevie Colwell are Plymouth boys who are good friends. I could literally name most of them as lads I really liked and admired. Calvin and Tommo have remained in the team and I check their result after every game.

Very proud of them and all the others who played their part getting us back to where we deserve to be.

What do you think of Arsenals chances this season?

Do we have to speak about Arsenal? They are currently destroying my soul with their current plight. All I do know is after the heartbreak of England losing the players need our love and support! Saka will drive Arsenal and England back to glory. Believe.
