Terras Times The newsletter of Weymouth FC Supporters Association.
December 2021
2018/2019 Southern League Champions 2019/2020 National League South play off winners. As a famous headline in the Non League Paper from yesteryear once said, and I paraphrase, “Weymouth are now living the reality as opposed to living the dream”. It feels like some of the early season optimism about a hybrid squad being competitive in the top flight of non-league football has started to evaporate, being replaced with the facts on how difficult a division we find ourselves in. There is a race to get out of it before salary capping comes in and we are collateral damage within that with teams throwing money at going up. Of course there are opposing views within the clubs supporters base on how this should go and it's clear that we need some points on the board to take some of the focus away from our status and financial clout. Throw in the oncoming cloud of more potential covid disruption and you could be forgiven for wanting the season to end as quickly as possible. We don’t have that option and whilst I have been roundly criticised for using this editorial as a blind call to arms and for all to unify for the good of the club, we aren’t going to improve as players, Managers, board, WFCSA board or supporters unless we can take a bit of feedback and make things better. It’s with that in mind that Manager, Brian Stock, has taken the bold step of getting advice and experience in the club in the form of Sean O’Driscoll. The man oozes experience and has led clubs with much bigger challenges than the one we currently face. I am sure he will have the impact we all crave on the park and that it will help us deal with the process of making enough money of it for WFC to be competitive consistently in this league. Please get in touch if you have a comment or have something you would like to get off your chest and it will be included in a future edition. James
