August 2022 EDITORIAL - James Warrener Welcome the August 2022 edition of Terras Times, the newsletter of the WFCSA. It's been a much tougher start to the season than any of us had anticipated, both on and off the park. But, there is still plenty of time to get things right and create some positive memories in 2022/2023.

In his piece this month Pete Nash covers things from a boardroom perspective. And whilst everyone reading this will have their own viewpoint its key for me to state that WFCSA will do all it can in this period to support the football club. That has not and will never change.

We can agree to disagree on the tactics and strategies in turning the finances and playing fortunes of the club around, but the goal has to be shared. At this stage of the process no idea is a bad idea.

It has been great to see people wanting to help and wanting to work with the club and WFCSA to do their bit. We have fixture poster circulation and delivery, shirt auctions for wonderful causes, sprucing up of the BLS and so on… Long may it continue.

Finally for this month I would like to draw your attention to the winners of free season tickets in Ken’s membership update.

Chairman's Chatter Hello everyone and welcome to the August newsletter. It is quite difficult to know where to start really, so much has happened in such a short time and so much has been said and written about the state the club finds itself in.

I'm sure you will want to know what role I have played in all of this and also wonder why I never raised any red flags about what was going on behind the scenes. To be quite frank with you all, I had as much inkling as you all did regards our finances, I really don't know what else to say that will help your understanding of the way things currently are.

For those of you who attended the fans forum on Monday 15th August, you will now have a clearer understanding of the where we are in regards the club's finances as a full and frank brief was given. If you were unable to attend, the Dorset Echo did an excellent precis of how the evening unfolded and of the questions asked and answered, so head over to their website and check it out.

The turnout was impressive and the passion in the room commendable and to some extent, heartening, despite the circumstances. The hardest thing to try to understand for all supporters, was how we ended up in this situation?

Without doubt, we were not prepared for the financial rigours of The National League, which is now a full time multi million pound league and we are now paying the price of that for sure.

I have to be honest and tell you that I don't have any answers and that I thought, like you all did, living within our means meant exactly that, living within our means. I am not prepared to get drawn into the blame game, I would not know how to run a football club!

All I can do is assure you that, for as long as I have the support and backing of you, the supporters, and my WFCSA board, I will continue to work as hard as I can for the benefit of this great football club. There are lessons to be learned from what we have all just experienced, but if it is felt that a change of leadership is required in the supporters club, I would never stand in the way of what the fans want.

I only ever see myself as the current custodian of the chairs position, there were many before me and there will be many more after I am gone. The most important thing is the football club and the one constant that always remains, the supporters.

Chairman's Chatter If all that has gone on regards our finances is not bad enough of itself, there is also the small matter of there being no comfort from our on field results!

There is no disguising the fact we have had a deeply disappointing start to the season, as reported elsewhere, our worst start for quite some time! I see little point in dwelling on what we cannot control however, the previous results are in the book and we need to move on and focus on what is in front of us. There are plenty of opportunities coming up to get some points on the board and open our account and this is what we must focus our attentions upon.

Rest assured, we continue to support the football club in any way we can.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to donate £5000 to the club when it was most needed. We are hopeful that now the issue regarding shares is resolved, we will be able to increase our holding on your behalf as time goes on.

We have made improvements to the shop kiosk (see Editorial photo) and we are still hopeful we can install a walk in shop at some stage this season, with the current kiosk reverting to selling programmes, half time draw tickets, team sheets etc. We will keep you updated as we get news.

We are also looking to make much needed improvements to the ground infrastructure, again, more news on this when we have details finalised.

In the meantime, we ask that you do all you can to support us in whatever way suits your circumstances best, from bringing some friends and family along to a game to purchasing shares with your lottery win! It will all help! If you have not already done so, please consider signing up to the Claret and Blue Lottery (see bottom of page 4), it helps raise money for the playing budget.
