Chairman’s Chat Welcome to the October newsletter! I know it’s in November but its been a busy time on and off the field for all of us working for the WFCSA. Your feedback indicates that you appreciate getting the newsletter so we will keep providing it as often as we realistically can.

If James doesn’t get his finger out though, can I wish you a Happy Christmas (and probably Happy Easter to!) sorry James!!!

Joe Young Terras Update

Editors Viewpoint Hi Readers, I would like to thank Joe for his kind endorsement above! I know he has been busy away from the club and its telling that when the pressure is on for people and families in the run up to Christmas, time is not available for things like voluntary commitments.

Many of you will have seen that Instagram post about non-league football along the lines of “These people are unpaid volunteers and its not the World Cup. Before you complain, have you given up your time?”.

Its applicable across the game at our level, not just Weymouth and whilst I am not digging out anyone who doesn’t give up their own spare time for the club for free, it would be great if the internet did consider that point before some of the things they post.

Weymouth FC is always looking to attract new supporters and sponsors, so we all have a responsibility to represent the club in the best possible light publicly.

The Youth section continues to go from strength to strength and continues to work toward a shared ambition of fielding teams at every age group from the Under 6 Tiny Terras through to the Senior first team.

#TerrasGold 12 years have passed recently since the best day of my Terras supporting life.

Nottingham Forest 1-1 Weymouth This is a match that has been talked about for so long and so many people have shared so many memories. For those of us up country it was a much later start and we missed out on the many japes on the various trains and buses that carried the Terras faithful to the City Ground.

We set off similarly early for some reason, despite having our tickets. We even had time to go to lunch at the Trent Bridge Inn with a nice view of the wintry test cricket ground.

The match itself remains long in the memory despite the fact my DVD has been lost across three house moves (If any of you out there has it, please return it to me !)

The thing that still irks me is that Kirk Jackson should have won it late on. But the final whistle and the scenes at the end were something I will never forget.

It shows what we could be capable of as a club if things fell into place.

- Hereford heroes or villains?

Its been interesting to face the new Hereford club a couple of times recently.

I know a fan of theirs very well and it was harrowing for him when they went under eventually, after years of suffering. It hasn't stopped his incessant text messages since they knocked us out of the trophy though and it was interesting that my go to responses were more based on off the field attitudes and behaviours as opposed to them just being better on the day.

“We tried to pay off our mistakes and give what we could back to our community instead of just writing debt off, leaving them high and dry and starting again… of course you have a better team, you have more money because of that” Our CVA crippled us for a long, long time and speaking to people there is still a mistrust of finances when WFC is mentioned.

However I have mentioned it before and will say it again. WFC was saved. It was saved by people who wouldn't let it die in its current form and we should absolutely celebrate the fact that our club has continuous history.

Would I trade places with Hereford and still be in the FA Cup? No. We went through what we went through for a reason and we need to be proud of our history. Not embarrassed . I don’t have negative feelings for Hereford, I am just glad we are still WFC 1890. So should you be.

Clearing up at the BLS Early November has seen the start of some clearing up at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Thanks to the volunteers who missed the away match at Hitchin Town along with giving up some of the time on the following Monday.

Of course we all patiently await news or an update on the progress of Weymouth FC moving to the long mooted new stadium.

In the meantime though its important that we keep our existing stadium in the right state to encourage fans and sponsors in and this would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of a number of people.

Whether these projects involve people in or out of WFCSA isn’t really the point here. Its more important that the club benefits and those people are duly thanked.

All of these efforts are much appreciated.
