FROM THE DESK OF

Jurisdictional Supervisor

That Was Then. This is Now.

I have been a part of the Church of God in Christ for many years. Bishop W. R. Nesbitt was our jurisdictional bishop. Mother Lila Henderson was our Supervisor of Women. I can recall her visits to our little wooden church in Sanford (Our church was used for public school education when I was in elementary school.) I recall Mother Henderson's stories of how she worked with the women throughout the state. She entertained us with her humor and wit. Mother Katie Smith, her successor, often visited my mother, who was the church mother during her tenure. I admired Mother Smith, Mother W.M. Pope, and Mother Viola Knowles. To me, they were the epitome of saintly womanhood, a level I thought I could never reach. That was then, this is now.

Here we are in a new jurisdiction with a bishop, Bishop Larry E. Perkins, that reminds us of the leaders of old, loving leaders who teach and love the saints as the Bible taught us to do. Our newness has created a kind of excitement and expectation that typifies youth. We look forward to the work and lifestyle of saintly living.

We look forward to developing the women's work as outlined by our general supervisor.

Mother Lewis has instituted prayers and work for every level of womanhood. Young or old, we have work to do in God's vineyard. Western Florida Second has a staff that is outstanding in every aspect. The entire staff is well trained, highly educated, and spirit filled. In fact, they are the modern-day epitome of the saints recorded in the book of Acts and the epistles of the New Testament. We have been taught the values of working together in the spirit of peace and harmony, in honor preferring one another. I look forward to our continued growth in the Lord.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

The six core values of Sunday School are teaching and reaching people as we minister the practical word of God. We seek to help others to assimilate and navigate life’s waters as we involve them ministry to build better lives. If you are called to teach, I invite you to explore certification opportunities at www.cogic.org/sundayschool.

ADVISOR

The Bible says that, “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14). We continue to build upon the firm foundation of the Department of Evangelism, organized in 1927, at our International, Jurisdictional, District, and Local church levels. The Holy Ghost empowers us to do this...to proclaim the Gospel to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

PRAISE, WORSHIP, & CREATIVE ARTS

Music leadership requires commitment, communication, and connection. Beyond talent, fostering excellence as a district team of singers, dancers, and musicians demands intentional relationships with God and each other. In the Kingdom Builders District Music Department, we believe that our best always has room for better when we minister together!
