‘Women of Distinction’ awards presented at YF Wives gala

Five Women of Distinction were presented with awards in their respective categories at the YF Wives fourth annual gala ceremony on Friday night at McKenna Hall.

The evening began with opening remarks from the YF Wives along with the event’s sponsor - Weyburn Credit Union, followed by grace. A meal served by members of the Weyburn Young Fellows Club began a fantastic evening with Keynote Speaker, Dr. Keely Shaw introduced by Danielle Wahl of Prairie Sky Co-op.

For the awards, two of the categories had one nominee. The Weyburn Credit Union Workplace Excellence Award went to Jennelle Wimmer, presented by Tana Torkelson of the Credit Union.

The YF Wives Community Service Award went to Krista Hubic,

presented by YF Wives past president Laila Bader and club member, Dallen Hodgkin.

The Weyburn Oilwomen Young Woman of Distinction had four nominees and was won by Jenica Whitrow, presented by Lori McIntosh and Abby Kradovill of the Weyburn Oilwomen.

The Access Communications Exceptional Entrepreneur award had three nominees, and the winner was Jo Beach. The award was presented by Ron Irvine of Access Communications.

A new award, Legacy in Arts and Culture was added this year, with two nominees. Marley Brown was the winner with the award presented by WAC members Amy Charmichael and Ira Patel.

There were no nominees in the Influential Women in Agriculture category.

Family programming offers fun at the Weyburn library

The Weyburn Public Library will host a number of programs and services during the month of May. Wiggles and Giggles (newborn to 18 months with caregivers) A little farmers craft activity is scheduled for Monday, May 11 and a splish splash program will be held on Monday, May 25. All Wiggles and Giggles programs start at 10 a.m.

Mini Makers and Movers (ages two to five years with caregivers) Mini scientists will experiment, explore and get curious about the world on Thursday, May 7. A bubble bonanza program will be held on Thursday, May 14.

Nature explorers will enjoy

the great outdoors with a scavenger hunt on Thursday, May 28. All Mini Makers and Movers programs start at 10 a.m.

Little Explorers (ages two to five years with caregivers) Explore the magic of colours through rainbow stories, movement and play on Tuesday, May 12. Sunny from Helpful Hippy will hold a yoga class on Tuesday, May 19. Splash into learning, play and imagination in the water world of ponds on Tuesday, May 26.

All Little Explorers programs start at 10 a.m.

KidVentures (ages six to 10 years) Show Mom some love with a handmade gift made

on Thursday, May 7. A fun and colourful rainbow science program will be held on Thursday, May 14. A Lego scavenger hunt program is set for Thursday, May 21. Enjoy a sweet, hands-on activity by creating flowerpot cupcakes on Thursday, May 28. All KidVentures programs start at 4 p.m.

InBeTween Club (ages 11 to 14 years) A murder mystery game will be held on Wednesday, May 13. Roll, fill, bake and enjoy chocolate chip cookie croissants on Wednesday, May 20. All InBeTween Club programs start at 6 p.m.

A sew sleepy workshop with facilitator Maria is scheduled for Monday,

May 25 at 2 p.m.

Family programming (ages two to five years with caregivers) Chess Club will meet on Saturday, May 9 and Saturday, May 23 at 2:30 p.m., instructed by Daniel Waterfall.

Column: What is your “Why”?

Submitted by Emma Zieglgansberger What is the reason you wake up in the morning, go to work, and finish your day? What motivates you?

What does that motivation look like? Is it a small reminder to drink your coffee and have a great day, or does it sound more like, “Let’s just get through today”? Both are valid motivations for living a full day. But at the end of the day, do you want your life to be something you simply get through, or something that leaves you feeling accomplished and excited for tomorrow?

Recently, I asked myself what my “why” was, and it not only changed my perspective but transformed how I begin each day and look ahead to the next. It comes back to perspective and the power of reframing how we push ourselves toward a better tomorrow.

Through my own experiences, my “why” has become a commitment to personal growth while gaining new experiences through different jobs, tasks, and everyday challenges. I try to discover a new “why” each day—something that

pushes me to face challenges with purpose.

The process begins by asking yourself: What is your “why”? Remind yourself that these are the reasons you keep moving forward. Your “why” may look different from mine or from someone else’s. It might be starting a new job, supporting your family, or closing one chapter of your life and beginning another.

This process can include morning gratitude, goal setting, or quiet reflection.

Support matters. Talk to your people, reach out, and don’t be afraid to share your “why.” Support those who are simply trying to get through the day. Remind others to be kind and gentle with themselves as they discover their purpose and work toward a better tomorrow.

Why look for your “why”?

Finding your “why” can set clear expectations for the day, relieve unnecessary anxiety, and support overall mental well-being.

Most importantly, it brings a sense of purpose to your life. Reflect on your day, your moments, and your journey.

The Art of Finding Work:

Employers look for hiring investments Submitted by Nick Kossovan Many job seekers cling to a fantasy that employers reward effort and that ‘trying your best’ will lead to being hired. If recruiters and hiring managers aren’t responding to your applications, or you’re getting interviews but no job offers, it’s safe to say you’re not giving employers compelling reasons to hire you.

Increasingly, your value as a candidate is judged more by how much you contributed to your former employers’ profitability than by your intentions.

Most job seekers treat their resume as a list of past chores, their LinkedIn profile as a digital scrapbook, and their cover letter as a desperate plea for a chance. This isn’t how business works. Employers aren’t looking to do you a favour; they’re looking to make a hiring investment. Without a clear reason to hire you over other candidates, you’re just another applicant inundating the employer’s ATS. It’s the job seeker’s responsibility to provide ‘reasons to hire me’. Recruiters and hiring managers aren’t obligated to hunt for reasons to hire a candidate. Danny Margulies, a well-known freelance copywriter and career coach, has a key teaching principle: “The best way to get a job is to show how you can make the company more money or make their lives easier.”

Here are six reasons why one candidate would be hired over another, and how you can convey them: 1. You Solve a Specific Problem Companies hire because they face challenges, such as losing customers, dealing with a disorganized IT infrastructure, or grappling with compliance issues.

How to show it: Don’t just say you’re a ‘problem solver.’ Identify a specific challenge the company is facing and describe, in your cover letter, a similar problem you’ve solved. Did you save $50,000 in lost revenue? Did you save an account?

Did you lower the Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)?

2. You Possess ‘Day-One’ Autonomy Most hiring managers are stretched thin.

Therefore, it’s understandable that they don’t want to hire someone who’ll require hand-holding for six months and prefer someone who can hit the ground running.

How to show it: On your LinkedIn profile, highlight ‘Speed to Value.’ Include specific examples of when you stepped into a chaotic environment and delivered results within 30 days. Use your ‘About’ section to describe your workflow; show employers that you have a system, not just a set of skills.

3. You Are a Culture Multiplier, Not Just a ‘Fit’ ‘Culture fit’ is a lazy phrase. Employers seek candidates who’ll enhance the team’s performance, speed, or cohesion; not someone who’ll destabilize or be a cowboy.

How to show it: In your resume’s professional summary, emphasize your experience mentoring or streamlining cross-departmental communication. In your bullet points, show how your presence led to a 15% increase in team productivity. Don’t say, ‘I’m a team player,’ but rather show how your team won because you played on the field.

4. You Have a Technical Advantage In 2026, being ‘proficient in Office 365’ is like saying you know how to use a fork. It’s expected. You need skills that make you a valuable asset.

How to show it: Your LinkedIn ‘Skills’ section shouldn’t be a dumping ground. It should be a curated list of high-level competencies. If you’ve mastered a proprietary software tool or developed a niche methodology, make it the centrepiece of your headline. Use your ‘Featured’ section to link to an article, portfolio, or white paper you’ve written.

5. You Understand the Bottom Line (few job seekers do) A company’s finances are affected by every employee, from the receptionist to the boardroom. The more you can show how you can contribute to an employer’s profitability, the less likely you are to be considered as asking to be overhead. Companies are aggressively cutting unnecessary overhead; they’re not looking for more.

How to show it: Every bullet point in your resume needs to pass the ‘So What?’ test. ‘Managed a team of ten’ equates to ‘So what?’ ‘Grew quarterly sales by 20% for a team of ten through aggressive lead generation restructuring’ is a reason to hire. Ensure all your actions are clearly tied to revenue growth or cost reduction.

6. You Demonstrate Unwavering Accountability Employers avoid hiring candidates they believe will make excuses. They want employees who take ownership of their outcomes, despite obstacles.

How to show it: Use your cover letter to tell a recovery story. Describe a time when a project went sideways and how you took the lead in fixing it. You’re not bragging; you’re demonstrating that when things go south, you’re the one they want in the trenches.

During a 2023 Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett, Seth Godin had this to say: “The world doesn’t need more compliant cogs. It needs people who can see a problem and have the agency to fix it before they’re asked.”

Employers will call you if you give them reasons to do so. Cut out the fluff, the buzzwords, and the AI-slop from your resume, LinkedIn profile, cover letters, and especially when interviewing, and replace them with evidence that gives employers reasons to hire you.

We continued our trip up through Idaho on Highway 95, making our way up towards the Canadian border.

It was a perfect day for riding. The temperature sits at a pleasant 80 degrees Fahrenheit - no wind - can’t ask for much more.

We had a wonderful stop in Moscow, Idaho; the city is certainly a university town.

We came upon the City of Tensed.

I like how they call it a city with only a population of 84 - they lost over 50 people in 10 years, with the population once standing at 125.

The name Tensed comes from a misspelling from the post office. This community was once called Desmet, but had to change it because it was already taken, the community group decided to call it Temsed, but when the post office took over it was misspelled and left like that.

It is your typical farming community with most of the economy based on agriculture. A nice, pleasant, clean community.

Continuing on up the road we come to the City of Plummer, slightly larger than Tensed. In fact it is the largest city within the First Nations Reservation. One of the funniest things that I have seen was that as we were coming up to this community, the road crew was out fixing a huge crack in the pavement. I guess the Plummer’s crack was the only thing to see at this time.

We arrived to Coeur d’Alene and took time for a brief pit stop. This community is one of the fastest growing cities in Idaho. Founded in 1887, this city has around 60,000 residents and is truly a

vacation destination city, with many attractions along the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Coeur d’Alene is, of course, referred to as the Lake City. Coeur d’Alene is a French word meaning Heart of Awl, referencing the French traders that traded with the local indigenous tribes around the area. There are resorts, themed parks and a very nice downtown that has 125-plus shops and restaurants, all within walking distance and featured a fabulous memorial to warriors and veterans that have come from the area that sacrificed themselves in conflict.

After some further investigation, one of the biggest downfalls with this beautiful community comes from the real estate prices. The average home will go for at least half a million, but they say that it is cheaper than other nearby resort cities.

Also a college town, Coeur d’Alene is home to North Idaho College and campuses from the University of Idaho. The oldest building in Idaho is the Cataldo Mission, sometimes referred to as the Mission of the Sacred Heart, built way back in 1848. Coeur d’Alene is also home to the world’s largest floating boardwalk with a length of 3,300 feet. If you like golfing, then you will like this course.

Not only is it one of the nicest but it has a moveable golf green.

Coeur d’Alene is also home to many famous residents who call this place their second home, the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Lance Armstrong, George Clooney, and Mark Walberg, plus many more.

What a nice hidden gem on our travels.

Community groups receive charitable gaming grants

Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) provided more than $3.4 million in charitable gaming grants in the fourth quarter of 2025-26, benefiting more than 1,500 groups and organizations across the province.

“Our government is proud of the charitable spirit of Saskatchewan people, and charitable gaming grants are one of the ways we support charities and nonprofit groups across the province,” said Jeremy Harrison said, Minister responsible for LGS. “These gaming grants go to groups engaged in a diverse range of activities, including arts, culture and sport, hospital foundations, service clubs and more.”

There was $65,006.75 awarded to Weyburn groups and organizations.

• Canadian Mental Health Association (Weyburn branch) received $266.04.

• Colour My World Child Care received $2,500.

• Little Discoveries Early Learning Co-operative received $748.

• Nickle Lake Regional Park received $210.

• Royal Canadian Legion (Weyburn branch) received $2,927.70.

• Southeast College Education Foundation received $101.25.

• Sunrise Early Learning and Teen Parent Support Centre received $3,497.29.

• Weyburn U11 AtoMc Blue hockey team received $400.73.

• Weyburn U13 Canadian Tire Gold Wings hockey team received $803.88.

• Weyburn U15 Creekside Gold Wings hockey team received $375.

• Weyburn U16AA Agriterra Wings hockey team received $1,805.63.

This latest round of charitable gaming grants went to more than 280 Saskatchewan communities, across all four corners of the province with $714,350 distributed to groups in Saskatoon and $885,481 to groups in Regina.

These quarterly grants are paid to groups and organizations in good standing that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities such as bingos, raffles, breakopen ticket sales, Texas hold ‘em poker tournaments and Monte Carlo events. The grants are equal to 25 per cent of the net revenue raised by each charitable event, to a maximum of $100,000 per group or organization annually.

The amount of each grant paid by LGS to each charity is calculated by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) based on financial reports and other information submitted by the group or organization.

Victims and Survivors of Crime Week to be held

Victims and survivors of crime have been through traumatic experiences, yet many draw on their resilience to move beyond victimization and create meaningful change in their lives and communities.

Victims and Survivors of Crime Week, May 10–16, is an annual initiative that raises awareness about the real and lasting

impacts crime can have on individuals and families. It is a time to listen, to support, and to recognize the experiences of those affected by violence or abuse— emotionally, physically, and financially.

This year’s theme, The Power of Collaboration, highlights the importance of working together across services, systems, and com-

munities to support victims and survivors in meaningful and sustained ways.

Envision Counselling and Support Centre Inc., provides safe, confidential support for individuals impacted by crime. This includes counselling, advocacy, and assistance in navigating each person’s unique healing journey.

As part of the week’s

recognition, Envision will also be out in the community delivering tokens of gratitude to service providers who work tirelessly across Southeast Saskatchewan to support victims and survivors every day.

Roughriders add strong dose of local talent before camp

Dave Thomas SaskToday.ca The Saskatchewan Roughriders are adding a strong dose of local talent ahead of rookie camp, and one name stands out for fans in Regina.

The club announced it has signed four players, including University of Regina Rams defensive back Carson Sombach, along with long snapper Reed Hughes, defensive lineman Nathan Pickering and defensive back Billy Jonas Pernier.

Sombach, a Regina product, joins the Green and White following a standout 2025 season with the Rams that cemented his status as one of the top defensive players in U SPORTS. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound safety was named a U SPORTS

Second-Team All-Canadian and a Canada West All-Star after leading his hometown team’s secondary.

The team also added Auburn long snapper Reed Hughes, who handled fulltime duties for the Tigers over the past two seasons, Laval return specialist Billy Jonas Pernier, the reigning RSEQ Special Teams Player of the Year, and former Mississippi State defensive lineman Nathan Pickering, who spent time with the Seattle Seahawks after going undrafted in 2024.

While all four additions bring intriguing resumes, Sombach’s local roots and playmaking ability make him an especially compelling storyline as he looks to take the next step in his football career with his hometown CFL team.

Dancers dazzle at year-end recital in Estevan

David Willberg SaskToday.ca The Estevan Recreational Dance Club capped the 2025-26 season by hosting its year-end recital.

A total of 310 students – the most the ERDC has ever had – showcased their skills with two performances on May 2 and one more the following day at the Estevan Comprehensive School’s cafetorium.

“It was an absolutely amazing weekend,” said lead instructor and owner Brooke Wilson. “I had the absolute best time with all of the dancers, watching them on stage and making those memories with them backstage as well. It was so magical.”

Forty-four routines were performed during the day.

The grand finale alone had 160 dancers, with some of them dashing into the audience, but that was by design, Wilson said. Many of the students were in multiple routines.

A sold-out crowd attended the first show May 2. The performance that evening and the showcase in the afternoon of May 3 were really well attended, she said, with some tickets

purchased at the door for both events. This was the first time the recital has had a third performance, Wilson said, and she added it was helpful so anyone who wanted to attend could do so.

“In the past, with our two performances, they both sold out quite quickly, so having that third performance really allowed everybody who wanted to see the dancers to come out and celebrate them,” said Wilson.

A lot of work goes into preparing for the recital, she said, including creating costumes, deciding music, organizing parent volunteers, preparing the facilities and running the show.

“Preparations begin fairly early on, with selecting music for the recital and getting the costumes ordered, booking the facilities, it all happens right at the start of our dance season,” said Wilson.

Instructors select music and costumes for their classes, and then Wilson looks after measuring the students, ordering the costumes and sizing them. Her father Eldon is a big help behind the scenes for jobs

that people wouldn’t associate with a recital.

It was another busy year for the dance club. They moved into their new home in the 1300-block of Seventh Street before the first practice. The competitive team travelled to a pair of competitions in Weyburn, the most recent being the

SaskToday The Souris Valley Theatre has announced the main-stage productions and other shows that are to be part of its 2026 season.

“From feel-good musicals to incredible live performances, this season has something for everyone,” the theatre said in a May 4 Facebook post.

Mama Mio: An ABBA Love Story, will run from July 6-10 and 13-17. The show will feature ABBA hits to go with a script filled with love and laughter in what the theatre calls a light-hearted musical comedy that centres around a mother and daughter opening a boutique hotel on a tiny tropical island.

“The show explores the complications of love, friendship and second chances, as old passions are awakened and new love is born. A perfect show for ABBA fans, sure to have you dancing in your seats, laughing out loud and believing in love all over again,” the theatre said in the Facebook post.

Former Estevan resident Chris Henderson, who is an award-winning country music singer, will perform on July 23.

“DeFeet Dance Challenge was such a positive experience. After each session, the dancers were invited back onto the stage, and the adjudicators would come onto the stage and speak with them and give them some advice and announce

some special awards.”

The dancers scored quite well, she said, and Wilson noted the improvements among the competitive dancers between the two meets, and all dancers since the start of the season.

“All of our dancers have worked so hard. I have seen much growth in every

single one of them, and it’s so amazing to see all of that finally come to life on the stage over this weekend,” she said.

Wilson is thankful for everyone who contributed to the recital’s success, and now the club will take a break and get ready for next season.

Estevan walk remains important fundraiser in fight against CF David Willberg SaskToday.ca The organizers of Estevan’s annual 12th annual Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis (CF) History are once again looking for participants.

This year’s walk will take place May 31, with the binzebo in Woodlawn Regional Park serving as the start-finish line. Event organizer Kasey McIntyre, whose son Liam has CF, said registration will open at 9 a.m. A breakfast will be served by the event committee and children’s activities will also take place.

Opening ceremonies will be at 10:30 a.m. and Brady Johnson from Encompass Fitness Studio will lead warm-up exercises. The walk begins at 11 a.m.

“We want to walk in memory of those who have lost their battle, and in honour of those who continue to fight,” said McIntyre.

“We want to invest in research to have new breakthroughs for people living with cystic fibrosis, in the hope that one day there will be a cure.”

Participants can walk two or four kilometres.

Once people are finished, Clifton’s No Frills will serve a barbecue lunch.

Closing ceremonies are slated for 2 p.m.

“Every year it keeps growing and getting better, and we have more community involvement. People look forward to us hosting our little fundraisers throughout May. It’s a nice way to connect with the community, and to encourage them to come out and walk with us on the walk day.”

People have to register online prior to May 29, she said. They can also register in person the day of the event, but then they can’t collect pledges.

“We’re really proud of our community, the businesses that are supporting us and the people that are donating,” McIntyre said.

Walk participants receive gift bags filled with items from people in the community.

“It’s really nice to see the community support us and to be able to do this year after year,” said McIntyre.

McIntyre noted Liam has started a fundraiser, Bites for CF, in which he will be selling chocolate and candy the day of the event, with proceeds going to CF Canada.

An online silent auction is scheduled to start in the evening of May 23 and

SaskToday.ca An arrest for impaired driving was part of a busy few days for members of the Estevan Police Service.

According to the May 2 police report, while on patrol, an EPS member conducted a traffic stop for a speeding violation. Upon contact with the driver, the EPS said signs of impairment were observed, which resulted in an approved screening device breath sample being obtained.

The result was a fail.

The EPS reported a 30-year-old man from Coronach was arrested for

impaired driving and was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a demand to provide a breath sample. He was lodged in cells until sober, the EPS said, and will be released with a court date in June to speak to the charges. He was also issued a ticket for exceeding the posted speed limit.

In other recent police news, members responded to the Estevan Leisure Centre parking lot May 1 for a report of suspicious people. The EPS said the caller was concerned in-

“The more people get these breakthroughs, or have new and better treatment plans, they have a better chance of living into adulthood, and in that adulthood, the goal is to have a meaningful life,” said McIntyre.

Police were dispatched to an apartment complex for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress.

Members attended and both parties were spoken to. The EPS said it was determined that the issue was a loud verbal argument but no physical violence had occurred. One of the individuals involved arranged to stay at a separate location for the night and no additional concerns were reported during the remainder of the shift.

A theft of a mattress from a travel camper was received and remains under investigation. The EPS said the theft is believed to have occurred between December 2025

and May. No damage was done to the camper when the item was stolen.

A report came in May 2 of an all-terrain vehicle operating in a north Estevan residential area.

The EPS said members attended the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or its operator.

EPS members attended to a report of a dog being left alone in a vehicle during warm weather. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and the EPS said it was determined that the vehicle had been left running with the air condi-

tioner active. No concern for the animal’s well-being existed.

A request came in to keep the peace while two individuals exchanged property.

A hit-and-run collision was reported to have occurred in the Pleasantdale area. The EPS said video surveillance was obtained, which shows the offending vehicle back into the parked vehicle and then drive away. The matter remains under investigation.

EPS members responded to a residence in south Estevan for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Members attended and determined a verbal argument had occurred, but the EPS said there wasn’t any physical violence. One of the parties left the residence for the night.

A noisy party was reported in the 1200-block of Seventh Street. Members attended and the homeowner was warned under the City of Estevan noise bylaw.

EPS members were called to assist a local cab company with a customer refusing to pay their fare.

As a result of the investigation, the EPS said a 44-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication and the cab fare was remitted to the driver.

Estevan exhibition launches 50-50 for new bleachers

David Willberg SaskToday.ca The Estevan Exhibition Association (EEA) has launched a 50-50 fundraiser for a much-needed project.

Tickets went on sale May 1 for the initiative, named Half for you and Half for the View, to replace the bleachers at the outdoor rodeo arena. EEA second vice-president Christa Kurtz said if all of the tickets are sold, the organization would give away $500,000 while retaining the other half.

Tickets are one for $10, five for $20, 20 for $50 and 100 for $100.

“So far it’s great,” said Kurtz, noting the EEA hasn’t had the chance to do a lot of promotion.

The deadline to purchase tickets is June 14 at 5 p.m. The draw is scheduled to happen at 5:30 p.m. that day in the Estevan Exhibition hall as one of the final components of this year’s Energy City Ex. Fair and rodeo.

People have to be 19 years of age and Saskatchewan residents to purchase tickets.

Kurtz said the exhibition association decided to be ambitious with the draw.

When she returned to the

board a couple of months ago, she suggested the EEA try to raise money for the bleachers through a 50-50.

“Everybody jumped on board and they thought it was a good idea, so we’re just running with it. This is our first time. Hopefully we can make it an annual thing, possibly to do other fundraisers for our grounds,” said Kurtz.

When the board jotted down the top priorities for improvements a few years ago, the bleachers were identified as the biggest need, Kurtz said.

“We wanted to be proactive in replacing them and

not reactive, if there was something to happen with them. They’ve seen their day and it’s time for some new ones to come in.”

The bleachers are believed to be at least 60 years old, she said.

The EEA hopes to eventually replace all of the bleachers around the rodeo arena, but it won’t all happen this year. Two sets of bleachers on the west side will be removed this year.

“We’re going to take those down in the next couple of weeks, and then the new ones will get moved in right before the fair,” she said.

The bleachers on the east side of the rodeo arena will be replaced at a later date.

Two sets of wheelchairaccessible bleachers will be added at some point as well.

Not only will the EEA have to purchase the new bleachers, but they will have to move in and install them. New gravel is to be added beneath the structures.

First anniversary marked for Messy Church program

The Messy Church program, an informal church setting for families in the community, recently marked its first anniversary at Knox Fellowship Hall All ages are encouraged to attend Messy Church as it was designed as another way for families to attend Church, when they are not able to attend Sunday services.

With a Christ-centred focus, Messy Church combines Bible stories, prayer, fellowship, a meal and exciting crafts. The hands-on

activities have a different theme every time, encouraging children to get messy and have fun.

The goal continues to provide a welcome and safe space in which families can thive, attend Christ-centred programs and enjoy hospitality and fellowship during the meal and craft time.

Messy Church is held the third Thursday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. The program runs from September to May.

Registration for Weyburn summer camps, swimming lessons to open in May

Registration for outdoor swimming lessons and Summer Camps for the City of Weyburn will be available in May. Swimming lesson registration will open on May 14. The six lane junior Olympic-sized outdoor pool operates from May to August.

Drop-in programs at the pool include adult swim, Fitness with Friends aqua workout, lane swim, public and free swims.

Swimming lessons are offered in multiple sessions throughout the season, with a range of levels and times available. Registration for swimming lessons is available by creating a Finnly account.

Registration for the Spark Summer Camp and the Summer Funzone Camp both open on May 21. Inclusive Summer Day Camps will also open for

registration at that time and are organized by Inclusion Weyburn.

The Spark Summer Camp is designed for ages six to 11 years and is held at the Credit Union Spark Centre during July and August. This summer camp is designed with a specialized focus on engaging youth through art projects and energetic activities. The program includes structured and unstructured play, with a theme for each of the seven weeks of the program.

The Funzone Summer Camp is also designed for ages six to 11 years and is held at the Weyburn Leisure Centre. This exciting and interactive summer camp includes weekly field trips to local attractions, including Nickle Lake Park. This camp provides children opportunities to enjoy a wide variety of fun,

develop an appreciation for physical fitness, creative expression and healthy living. There is a theme for each of the seven weeks of the program.

Registration for both City of Weyburn summer camps is available by creating a Xplor account.

The Inclusive Summer Camps supports recreational opportunities for children ages six to 11 years of all abilities. An Inclusion Weyburn participant eligibility form has to be completed, to ensure campers receive the right support.

Registration for an inclusive camp spot must be completed through Inclusion Weyburn directly at inwey155@gmail.com.

The City of Weyburn recently released their spring/summer leisure services guide for 2026.

Registration is already

open for Children’s Art Programs for the season.

Local residents can register for programs by creating a Xplor account and links are available on the City of Weyburn website.

A popular local event is back for another year of seasonal and curated products by local vendors at the Market on the Farm. The first market of the season will be held Saturday, May 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Shop, enjoy community, amazing live music and delicious food from Wayne’s Wiener Wagon.

Facetastic Faces will also be on site, with face painting and temporary ink.

Future Market dates are June 6, July 4, August 1, September 5 and October 3.
