ANIMAL PARK to open for 2026 season on June 6 colouring activities and lawn games. The Slush Sisters will also donate $1 from each sale to support the park. This year’s lineup of animals will include alpacas, pigs, ducks, goats, sheep and silky chickens. When deciding which animals will be featured each season, Kistanov said organizers reach out to owners they have partnered with previously to see if they are interested in returning. Some of the animals are occasionally made available for adoption at the end of the season. “Sheep is new this year,” Kistanov said. “It was something I wanted to have since we haven’t had them in a few years. So, I reached out to see if anyone knew anyone with sheep. The lady who owns the goats got chickens last

year and said she wanted to bring them this year.” The Weyburn Therapeutic Animal Park relies entirely on volunteers and visitors to remain operational. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old, although those between 15 and 17 require a guardian. Morning chores are completed between 7 and 9 a.m. and usually take between 30 and 60 minutes. Duties include feeding the animals, topping up hay and ensuring water is clean and full. Volunteers working evening shifts are responsible for raking pens, cleaning the area and topping up hay and water. Those shifts generally take between 60 and 90 minutes. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to contact Kistanov.

Kaitlynn Nordal/ Freelance reporter The Weyburn Therapeutic Animal Park is preparing to welcome families back for another summer season, with organizers planning a full afternoon of animals, games and activities for opening day on June 6. The non-profit park, located at Tatagwa View, will host its opening-day celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and remains free for the public to access. “It’s a place for people to come and enjoy the presence of the animals,” said Janay Kistanov, president of the board and communications manager. Opening day will feature a concession stand selling hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, candy bags and lemonade. The event will also include face painting,

WEY-CLEAN WEEK FOCUS IS SHARED SPACES
Submitted Wey-Clean Week is returning May 25 to 29 and residents are invited to help keep Weyburn looking its best by cleaning up the spaces that are shared. This year’s focus is on encouraging residents to care for the areas around their properties, including sidewalks, front streets, back alleys and nearby shared spaces. Keeping these areas clear helps improve the look of neighbourhoods, but it also supports important day-today operations. Back alleys play an important role in drainage and access. When alleys are blocked by branches, yard waste or debris, it can make it harder for water to drain properly and can limit the ability of graders and other City equipment to safely maintain those spaces. To support cleanup efforts, the City of Weyburn will also offer curbside pickup of bagged yard waste only from June 1 to 5. Collection will take place on each residential area’s regular garbage pickup day: • Monday, June 1 – Area 3 • Tuesday, June 2 – Area 4 • Wednesday, June 3 – Area 5 • Thursday, June 4 – Area 1 • Friday, June 5 – Area 2 This service is intended to support front yard and back alley maintenance by helping residents dispose of bagged grass clippings, leaves, weeds, and small garden debris only. It does not include branches, loose material, household garbage, furniture, construction waste or other debris. All yard waste must be bagged to be collected.
