Stars of the Festival shine on Cugnet Centre stage

The best performances from the Weyburn Rotary Music Festival were recognized and highlighted at the Stars of the Festival held on Thursday night at the Cugnet Centre.

Medals, trophies and scholarships were handed out to winners in 43 classes, as decided by the adjudicators, who also indicated which performers move on to the provincial level, and

who should perform at the Stars event. While a number of school groups won prizes, none could perform at the Stars show because of STF sanctions on extra-curricular activities. These sanctions also impacted the music festival, as some groups’ scheduled appearances at the festival were cancelled and were not allowed to be rescheduled.

The prize for best per-

formance by a band, a $300 cheque and shield from Prairie Sky Co-op, went to the WCS senior band. Medals for piano from Western Financial Group went to Alexander Dela Cruz and Nathan Cornish. The Weyburn Concert Series prize for vocals, a $100 prize, went to Avryelle Molnar. The Weyburn Elementary Schools community Council prize for group

choral speech, a $75 prize and shield, went to the APES Grade 3/4 French class.

A vocal prize of $125 from Weyburn Credit Union went to Brittany Barber.

The Weyburn Music Festival medals for vocal went to Natalie Ramsay and Mason Sidloski. The Weyburn Music Festival medals for vocals went to Jade Alcalde, Alexandra Jose and Aerendel Bahingawan. The TRG Bookkeeping medals for piano went to Jameson Donnelly, Thomas Cugnet, Ava Dela Cruz and Allena Murray.

The Quota International of Weyburn prizes for vocal, for spoken words, at $50 each, went to Mason Sidloski and Natalie Ramsay.

The Weyburn Music Festival medals for piano went to Heidi Bell and Alexandra Jose. The YF Wives provided a prize to two school groups, of $100 and a shield for each, to Legacy Park Grade 3 and APES Grade 3 (English).

The Weimer’s Hometown prize for band, of $75, went to Bailey Roy. The Weimer’s Hometown prize for vocal, of $75, went to Lila Anderson. The Weyburn Security prize of $300 for vocal went to Donald Alexander. The Holy Family RCSSD prize for vocals, of $125, went to the Spirit of Grace group. The Western Financial Group prize for instrumental, of $50, went to Ava Donison, Kaitlyn Morrice and Grace Ring. The Weimer’s Hometown prize of $150 for piano went to Ben Jebelli. The Arleigh

Pulfer Memorial prize for piano, of $100 and a trophy, went to Camila Renkas.

The Margaret Cugnet prize for a piano duet, of $200, went to Judah Sawatzky and Benjamin Sawatzky.

The Shirley Bartlett Memorial award for vocal, of $200 and a trophy, went to Donald Alexander.

The Weyburn Music Festival medals for instrumentals went to Elena Olvera and Autumn Thurlow. The Knights of Columbus vocal prize of $50 went to Ryan Hansen. The Quota International of Weyburn band prize of $50 went to violinist Caroline Walter.

The Order of the Eastern Star prize for piano, of $50, went to Grace Anderson and Sydnee Thiessen. The Southeast Cornerstone prize for band, of $300, went to Donald Alexander.

The Weyburn Security prize for piano, of $300, went to Sydnee Thiessen.

The Orpheus Club trophy for vocals went to Allena Murray. The Westland Insurance prize for piano, of $100, went to Lily Penner and Hently Bahingawan. The St. Michael School Community Council prize for band, of $50, went to Nicole Dayaan and Haroun Mathew. The Rotary Club Library Award for vocals, of $200, went to Jonas Burdan and Max Kilback. The Weyburn Arts Council prize for piano, of $150, went to Judah Sawatzky. The Mary Johnston Me-

morial prize for vocal, of $125, went to Keira Mahnke.

The Knights of Columbus prize for band, of $225 and a trophy, went to Natalie Butz. The Weyburn Security prize for multi-disciplinary performance, of $150, went to Donald Alexander.

The Weyburn Credit Union prize for piano, of $75 and $50, went to Benjamin Sawatzky and Heidi Penner.

The Stewart Steel prize for vocal, of $500, went to Lindsay Van De Weyer. The Royal Canadian Legion prize for band, of $75 and a shield, went to the Legacy Park Grade 5 Ensemble.

The Weyburn Young Fellows Club prize for band, of $300, went to Isaiah Perdis.

The June Barber Memorial Award, which provides assistance of $125 to students going on to the provincial level, went to the follow -

ing recipients: piano, Felicia Deal, Lily Penner and Judah Sawatzky; vocal, Avryelle Molnar, Lindsay Van De Weyer, Keira Mahnke and Donald Alexander.

The Jerry Mainil Ltd. prize for vocal of $400 went to Keira Mahnke.

The Alex Findlay Memorial prize for piano of $600 went to Felicia Deal.

The Barber Motors prize for vocal of $300 went to Natalie Ramsay.

The annual meeting for the Weyburn Rotary Music Festival committee will be on April 14 in the Weyburn Credit Union’s Community Room, at 7 p.m.
