Dear Members, I wish all the Wexford owners a great summer whether you are spending time with us here in this beautiful community and island or elsewhere in the nation or world, safe travels to all. Wexford Summer Camp will be in full swing this month and we are excited for opening day. We have a strong partnership with KE Camps, a nationally recognized summer camp organization. The mission of KE Camps is to bring the warmth and spirited feel of a traditional camp experience and blend it into the unique setting of a private club and community. If you haven’t signed your children up for this exciting camp there is still time, log on to www.kecamps. com. Your childrens’ friends are also welcome! June is also the time when Chris Neff and his team start preparing and executing our summer maintenance practices on one of our top assets, the golf course and practice areas. Aerification practices protect and revitalize the course from an agronomy standpoint and are vital to the overall health and playability of the course. I want to thank Chris and his team for the hard work and hours it takes to execute the summer maintenance practices. Tennis and Pickleball continue to become popular and our new Pickleball courts are being well used with the addition of multi-level clinics, a 3.0 team and round robins. We have had a successful USTA spring season with our Ladies 4.0 team who will be participating in a state tournament. Our junior programs for boys and girls are increasing in participation and are a great way to get your child introduced to other junior players in a friendly social environment. In keeping with the summer trend, we are working hard on our forwardthinking initiatives that I had reviewed

in the most recent Board of Directors meeting on May 20th. I want to thank all of those who attended the open forum and supported our next steps. The leadership team and I have identified two key initiatives that we will be focusing on this summer: 1. Employee recruitment, retention and morale 2. Improve the a la carte dining experience with enhanced service levels and consistency in our culinary operation In the month of June, we will be hosting an all-employee Town Hall meeting coupled with an employee engagement survey that will be conducted by Club Benchmarking, a nationally recognized company that focuses on platforms and services that accurately assess and benchmark the financial and operational health of clubs. I look forward to developing metrics on employee engagement and satisfaction so we can continue to strive to be the best place to live and work. I appreciate your support of the Wexford team that continues to work hard each and every day to serve you across all the amenities we have to offer and to those that are behind the scenes assisting in the success of the Wexford operations.

Letter from the Board President Hello Neighbors, In keeping with my focus on Board initiatives, I’d like to provide an update on our progress on our 2022 objectives and their importance to the Wexford community. • NPOIF: The New Property Owner Initiation Fee covenant change was passed by a member vote and is now set at $35,000 for an improved property and $17,500 for an unimproved lot. This level of NPOIF is more consistent with similarly situated communities in our area. With this change, the budgeted threshold of $450,000 this year will be more achievable, and it will provide much needed funds for infrastructure repair and replacement going forward. Thank you for the substantial vote turnout and for passing the covenant change. • 5-year Golf Master Plan: The key elements within the Arnold Palmer Design Group recommendations have been included in the Golf Course Master plan. Course maintenance and update projects in the Wexford Golf Master Plan will be incorporated in the annual operating and capital budgets that are submitted for membership approval each year. • Strategic Plan: Over the last month the Amenities Committee has led a dedicated and inclusive process to educate and communicate with the community on the proposed update of Wexford’s amenities, in preparation for bringing the projects to a vote by the property owners. These sessions have been interactive, constructive and we have received valuable feedback. The Committee is considering owner comments from the most recent May Town Hall meeting and will provide more information on the path forward over the next few weeks. In addition, we have heard owner feedback on some elements of the Strategic Plan that are not under consideration for near-term implementation, and to eliminate ambiguity, we will be amending the Strategic Plan accordingly.
• Communication: Our management team has instituted a “scorecard” to keep you up to date on key operating metrics. This will be published quarterly and sent to all members electronically. It’s also our intent to hold Town Hall meetings quarterly with specific and open agendas. Ryan Spence, Vince Sullivan Wexford COO has restarted open President listening sessions soliciting member questions and opinions. These initiatives are intended to provide different and improved communication with members. • Ensure the success of Wexford: While this is the hardest objective to tangibly identify beyond operating metrics, we realize the culture of Wexford and support of members and staff are paramount to our success. Our management team and staff work tirelessly providing innovative and creative programming and events for our members. But with higher member utilization, we have begun to see operating pressure points in areas such as Food and Beverage, Golf, Security, Tennis, Pickleball and the Harbor. Good access is a differentiator and key success factor for Wexford. Providing easy member access to amenities is still our goal. With the challenges of the tight labor environment in our island community, we find that we need to balance our special events programming with available staffing to assure we can execute well and consistently meet members’ expectations. We’ve instituted moderated programming as an interim 60-90 day reset and have deferred some events to later in the year as we gauge its success. We appreciate your patience as our management and staff work through this period. Thanks for your support, caring, and commitment to keeping Wexford the foremost community in Hilton Head.

Spring Fling — Croquet the Wexford Way Wexford hosted the annual “Spring Fling – Croquet the Wexford Way” charity event on Saturday, May 7th. Thirty-two players played golf croquet with each player competing in four games with a partner in high/low handicap pairings. Joining Wexford players were teams from Sun City, Dataw Island, Spring Island and Bishop Gadson in Charleston.
Brian and Lisa Nelson hosted the event along with Harvey Geiger as tournament director. Wexford participants included Elizabeth Faas, Mary Faas, Fred Jauch and sonin-law Mark, Ed and Dawn Jaworski, Bill and Sue MacLeod (donation only), Mike McKelvey, and Mary Margret Verdon. The event was an overwhelming success with almost $1,000 raised for AMIKids by the Coastal Croquet Clubs.
Wexford’s Hord selected for PGA Championship Wexford’s Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Will Hord was selected as a volunteer for the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. He joined an exclusive group of 60 agronomy volunteers from around the world to assist the Southern Hills’ staff in preparing the course for the PGA’s top players. Along with offering an unparalleled learning experience, volunteering provides assistant superintendents the opportunity to network with industry peers, experience another club’s operation, and ultimately, bring new knowledge and insights back to their home club. This was the seventeenth professional event Will Hord has volunteered for and the third PGA Championship.

FloatTails is Docktails on the water! Join us on your boat (or we’ll help get you on a boat) in Bryan’s Creek, directly across Calibogue Sound near Daufuskie Island. Bring an appetizer to share and what you want to drink. Boats will raft-up around 4:30pm for a boat-hopping party and return to Wexford before dark. Sign up with Mark in the Harbour Center.

A Captain’s Meeting scheduled for June 15th at the Harbour Center where specifics as to tides, weather conditions and harbour departures will be discussed. Below is a loose itinerary with information on local attractions and group activities so you can make your plans accordingly. Docktails, Bohicket Style | June 16th We would encourage everyone to bring their beverage of choice and an appetizer. There is a large grassy area at the marina open to the public and is the perfect place to watch the sunset and have a Docktails event. Bring your own lawn chair for comfortable viewing. After sunset, you may decide to visit one of the restaurants or retreat to your boat. Group Dinner: Salty Dog Cafe | June 17th After sunset cocktails on Friday
evening, we are planning a group dinner at the Salty Dog Cafe. Freshfields Village Freshfields Village is located .5 mile from the marina. It is an open-air shopping and dining destination. There are several restaurants, retail stores, spa services and a village market by Harris Teeter. Check out their website

Fourth of July Family Scavenger Hunt July 3rd at 1:30pm
Gather the grandkids, nudge a neighbor, or find a friend and come on out for our third Wexford Fourth of July Family Scavenger Hunt. Your Yacht Club Committee is once again planning a nautical and patriotic themed Wexford-wide scavenger hunt where teams will explore the entire community following clues, collecting photo and video trophies, and competing in brain teaser challenges. Teams will be judged on speed, creativity, and thoroughness. We will gather at the deck near Waves to raise a little cheer for our contest participants and announcement of winners. This will be a contest using an application called Goose Chase so smart phones and pre-registration of up to 20 separate teams will be required. Keep an eye out for future e-blast announcements as there will be more information to come.

Let your opponent make the mistake!
One of the best feelings in tennis is when you hit an awesome winner and win the point! Although that feeling is great, don’t focus on doing that the majority of the match. Remember roughly 80% of all points end on an error. Instead, focus on playing steady and letting your opponent make the mistake. Your goal each point should simply be to NOT MISS. Try to only hit winners on volleys, overheads, and when your opponent is out of position!

What’s the News in the Kitchen?!?
The fastest growing sport in America has been keeping the pickleball courts at Wexford absolutely packed this past month with fun clinics and great events! A few to note: Cinco De Mayo; Big Break, Big Smash, and Big Pickle, which brought in a ton of new pickleball interest and introduced new friends. The Monday beginner clinic at 11:00am has been busy and our pickler foundation here at Wexford is growing!

Patrick, Mike, Laura and HEAD Representative Jim Demos will all be on the court playing an exhibition match, and after members can demo new paddles. Pickleball Round Robin | July 3rd from 11:00am – 12:30pm Bring your paddle and your enthusiasm for a pickleball round robin with drinks and appetizers as well as a costume contest for who has the most Independence Day spirit! Our 3.0 ladies pickleball team made us proud on Saturday, May 7th, by taking home their first win on Court #2. Congratulations to Carolyn Dillaway and Karen Burston, who fought hard with each court going to four sets.
GLOBAL PICKLEBALL NEWS Pickleball is making history as the sounds of pickleballs being struck will be echoing through the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York. Play will be May 25th – 29th, and includes a prize purse of $125,000, the largest of any pickleball tournament this year and in APP Tour history! This will be the first of many large pickleball tournaments held at Flushing Meadows as the APP has signed a three-year agreement to host this tournament. What a fantastic step for the fastest growing sport in America! What’s next? NCAA? Who knows, the sky is the limit for pickleball.

Unsure of when to move up to the kitchen line or getting caught in no man’s land (zone two)? Focus on returning the serve deep in the court, once you have a firm grasp on what that deep return looks like you will begin to have more confidence in running up to that line. Don’t get caught in no man’s land, having a deep return will prevent that.

Beat the Summer Slump
The summer months tend to be slower as they follow a very busy golf schedule at Wexford. It is the perfect time to regroup and deep dive into your golf game while the course is worked on. Figure out where you can improve, make those changes, and prepare for the fall. It may be hot, but there is always time for a 30-minute or 60-minute lesson or, better yet, an on-course lesson (we can find some shade).

Reciprocal Season
The private club reciprocal season is here, and the official list can be found on the website or in the Golf Shop. It is a great opportunity to see and play the local private clubs at a reduced rate. The golf staff will do their best to help secure tee times but please keep in mind, similar to Wexford, the courses are busier than ever with many undergoing aerification and other maintenance and improvement projects over the summer months which may impact availability. Reservations are made from golf pro to golf pro and are generally made no earlier than one week.

Steady iron play requires practice, soft touch Developing a solid iron game is extremely important, not only for scoring, but for our overall confidence throughout a round. Here are a couple of tips that will help you strike better irons and find more greens. First, make sure your alignment and ball position are consistent for every shot. This should be practiced at the driving range periodically (see pictures above).
Next, think 85% of your full swing. Irons are about contact and distance control. It is much easier to remain in a great impact posture (see picture at top right) with a smoother swing, allowing you to become more consistent with ball striking. Be diligent with these two tips and you will find yourself in better positions to make birdies and pars!
Wexford Junior Golf Series
Registration ends June 15th
The Junior Golf Series will begin on June 22nd. Practices will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30pm - 5:00pm followed by matches on Thursdays starting at 3:30pm. The series is designed for new and experienced golfers ages 6-12 and will incorporate structured golf practice, rules and etiquette education. Safety and Security: Fast Facts I am sharing some relevant and maybe lesser known information about the services Security offers, important safety equipment locations and a few other tips to ensure all Wexford members, their families and guests have a safe summer. Wexford Security maintains a key for most homes inside Wexford allowing Security to provide the Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue with a key to enter a home for any emergency response. The keys are kept in a secured locker and inventoried prior to the start of each shift. Each Security Officer receives training or bi-annual re-training for CPR and AED, from the Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue training section. Wexford has thirteen Automated External Defibrillators (AED), which are inspected weekly by Security and can be found at the following locations:

Battery safety Wexford has previously reported incidents regarding Carbon Monoxide alarm activations within some garages. Please read the following procedure regarding safety during the charging process: Safely charging a golf cart battery is of the utmost importance. Overheated lead-acid batteries can explode. • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and heed all safety tips and warnings. • Always turn off the golf cart ignition key and place the cart in neutral before starting the battery charger. • Use only a UL Listed Industrial Battery Charger that is properly
