National Lifeguard – Recert

The purpose of a National Lifeguard (NL) Recert is to reconfirm that National Lifeguards can perform at the National Lifeguard standard. Candidates are expected to actively participate in 100% of the National Lifeguard Recertification. Physical standards, Lifeguard Judgment and Lifeguard Skills will be evaluated throughout the recertification.
Prerequisite(s): Currently or previously have held a National Lifeguard Certificate and a current workplace approved standard first aid

Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Swim for Life® and Canadian Swim Patrol programs. The Swim Instructor course prepares Instructors to apply level 1 leadership competencies and strategies while teaching and evaluating.
Lifesaving Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze Medals, Distinction, Boat Rescue and Lifesaving Society CPR programs.
The Lifesaving Instructor course prepares Instructors to apply level 1 leadership competencies and strategies while teaching and evaluating.
Lifesaving Instructor certification is the prerequisite for other Lifesaving Society instructor certifications. Certification in Alberta and Northwest Territories includes CPR Instructor certification.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Instructor candidates will learn the fundamental knowledge to teach swimming lessons and advanced courses during each classroom session Outside of scheduled classroom time, Instructor candidates will be paired with one of our instructors to teach portions of our scheduled lessons. This will help the instructor candidate gain experience in and become more comfortable teaching swimming lessons. Candidates should have availability on Tuesday and Thursday evenings or Monday and Wednesday afternoons throughout the duration of the course.
Prerequisite(s): minimum 16 years old and Bronze Cross or higher (need not be current).
