How is Christiana Different?

Christiana Cabinetry is not a ‘production custom’ cabinet line. Christiana does not maintain a catalogue of standard cabinet configuration options nor do they have a standard kit of materials and finishes that are uniformly sent out to a ‘dealer network.’ Rather, individual design studios are selected to partner with Christiana to provide the most discerning of clients with access to the highest level of cabinetry, hand crafted to the client’s unique requirements.

How do samples work?

AC Cabinets and Design has travelled to Christiana’s home in Atglen, PA to curate a selection of reference samples which can be used as a starting base for project design. We realize that while it’s refreshing that anything is possible, samples serve as the foundation and inspiration for design and are a vital component of client presentations. Therefore, we are happy for you to use one of our great number of samples or for you to provide your own sample and have us match it.

Just a note, materials to be color matched are not limited to other wood stains and paint colors. We also match colors to fabrics, tile, stone etc.

How does Christiana Achieve Custom Finishes?

IN SUMMARY

Multifaceted color match process

Client approval process

Christiana’s color lab experts take the time to use a multifaceted process to achieve a true custom match. This involves using not only spectrophotometer and densitometer technology but also the human eye of highly trained experts to look at samples in a variety of lighting environments. Samples are sent back and forth for your approval. Only when you are completely satisfied with the color will the process move forward to production. Additionally, Christiana takes the extra time to condition, and if necessary, bleach their wood to prepare the surface of different batches to accept a consistent, uniform stain throughout the project.

Why is this Important?

Since wood is a natural material and no two trees are the same, even the same species of wood will have different, naturally occurring undertones. Most cabinet makers, and nearly all ‘production custom’ cabinet manufacturers forgo this conditioning process as it is timeconsuming and costly. However, this means the client is often left with a finished product that has unacceptable variations from cabinet to cabinet, or even from the original approved sample. We don’t believe this results in luxury craftsmanship or truly custom cabinetry - therefore we refuse to skip this process.

World-Class Finishing Methods

SANTÉ FINISHING SYSTEM

With a reputation as one of the finest cabinet makers in the world comes access to the Santé finishing system, which utilizes a two-component urethane system far superior to the more typically used catalyzed varnishes. There are only two of these systems being utilized worldwide, one in France, the other here. This finish produces a surface substantially more resistant to moisure and wear while providing clarity and definition to the wood.

AVENIR FINISHING

While the Avenir finish is similar to the Santé finish, it features some distinct differences. The Avenir process includes a highsolids, high-build sealer that requires aggressive sanding prior to applying the topcoat. This system was developed for wood species with open-graining. This type of wood shows best with the grain filled or when a high-gloss, polished, wet-look finish is desired.

Cabinetry Construction Highlights

BOX CONSTRUCTION

All cabinets, except those for appliance and sink installation, have full plywood tops. This adds to the stability of the cabinet as well as keeping dust and construction debris out of the cabinet and glides during installation.

All boxes are built with 3/4" plywood sides, bottom and tops, with 1/2" plywood backs. Boxes are dado'd, glued and screwed together, then placed in a square press while the glue sets up, to ensure everything cures square and true. Allplywoodis7-11ply,formaldyhidefree,andFCScertified

Face frames are a full 1/8" thicker than the doors, allowing for adjustment of inset doors within the frame.

DRAWER CONSTRUCTION

Drawer boxes are built with 3/4" solid wood sides, front and back, dovetailed together with a sturdy 3/8" plywood bottom to prevent bowing or warping. Options are available for different woods and even dovetail configurations for a truly custom build. Metal drawer box systems are an available option for a more modern look.

The International Metric Collection

Christiana Cabinetry first began building frameless cabinetry in 1985, putting them at the forefront of European cabinetry design in the US.

In building upon this history and seeking greater authenticity for their European design collection, Christiana has moved beyond only building frameless cabinetry within American parameters of dimension and proportion. The International Metric (IM) Collection, which captures the scale and proportion of true European design, fills the desire for European aesthetics while being made right here in the US.

The IM Collection is intentionally scaled using metric measurements based on the evenly divisible 32mm to produce hotizontal width and height dimensions that are beautifully proportional. Tight tolerances, clean lines and a higher toe kick provide clients with all the details to realize true European styled design.

Suited to Luxury Appliances

Luxury appliances from European manufacturers, such as Gaggenau, align seamlessly with the metric dimensions of the IM Collection, resulting in tighter reveals and an easier, cleaner installation.

Environmental Responsibility

Christiana believes that true artisan cabinet makers should be able to tell you the steps they take to ensure their products are safe for their craftsman to work with, safe for the end user, and as ecologically responsible as possible. That’s why they ensure their cabinetry uses no added formaldeyhde or isocyanides, does not produce oppressive off-gassing, are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) compliant, and isocyanates-free after a 10minute cure cycle.
