Horseshoe Bay
100 years of history
T
he West Vancouver Historical Society, creators of the very popular Cottages to Community is now releasing this, its newest publication. Written by Francis Mansbridge, curated by John Moir, and designed by Colleen Wood, this is a fascinating, beautifully illustrated book about the 100 year history of the boats, taxis, and ferries of Horseshoe Bay and the colourful people who operated them. Photo: Glenn Owen Writer Francis Mansbridge was kept busy most of the night, signing copies of Arrivals and Departures, which narrates the development of marine service from Horseshoe Bay, from the early days when water taxis ferried people around Howe Sound, to the present super ferries that transport large numbers of people and their vehicles with cool efficiency. Spearheaded by Jim Carter, the book is a combination of history, personal anecdotes, and photos selected by curator, John Moir. See page 3 for more on the launch of Arrivals and Departures.
