CALL TO WORSHIP
Priest: We praise you, living God: you give strength to the earth that sustains us,
All: You open your hand to feed all living things.
Priest: We praise you, Lord Jesus Christ: you teach us with stories of seeds and weeds and harvest time,
All: You call us to accept your word and bear much fruit.
Priest: We praise you, Holy Spirit, fire of love: you are the breath of life in every creature,
All: You refresh our thirsty souls with grace.
Priest: Blessed be God, Source of Wisdom, living Word, abiding Spirit, All: Blessed be God forever.
FACING THE UNKNOWN
Priest: As we embark on our new journey, we may have a sense of inadequacy or fear of the unknown. Let us, go forward in faith and trust,
As we share with each other and be joined in our humanity.
All: Jesus, remember us, as we take up the responsibility of being your people.
THE ASSURANCE
Priest: St Paul writes: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels or rulers, not things present nor things to come can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.”
Nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God. Therefore, rise up and walk in faith.
All: Jesus, be with us, as we go forth in your name.
MINISTRY OF THE WORD
First Reading Romans 12:9-19
Chané Smit - 2024 Chapel Captain.
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord.
Reader: This is the word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.
The Gospel Matthew 5:1-3 and 13-16
Lachlan Clausen - 2024 Chapel Captain.
The Gospel of Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew chapter 5 beginning at the first verse.
“Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Reader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
THE REFLECTION
The Reverend Jane Markotsis.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Paul Alcorn: Let us together affirm our faith, and the faith of the church.
All: We believe in one God, who made and loves all that is. We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was born, lived, died and rose again, and is coming to call all to account. We believe in the Holy Spirit, who calls, equips and sends out God’s people, and brings all things to their true end.

All: We believe in One God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

THE CONFESSION
Priest: When we offer God our confession, we join the beautiful work of reconciliation, which begins with our reconciling with God. Trusting in our partner in grace. Let us pray together.
All: Compassionate and gentle God, you have created us in love to be your people. As we gather for worship, we are reminded that we have lost sight of this gift and forgotten how to really love you. We have looked for help in the wrong places and ignored the abundance you lay before us. Send your spirit to come and breathe its life-sustaining and life-altering presence into us in these moments of worship. Hear our prayers and remake us in your image once again. Amen.
ABSOLUTION

AMAZING LOVE
Words and music: by Andrew Tuppen, Emmanuel College based on a hymn by Charles Wesley. Published by Emmanuel College ‘The Moz Project’ CD. Used with permission from the composer. I stand in awe; I stand amazed, of all You gave, the price You paid. To give Your life in place of mine; exchange my guilt to bring new life. You came to give; You came for me; You came to reach my world in need. The gift of hope, the gift of life, the gift of grace through You, the Christ.
Chorus
Amazing Love, how can it be? That You would die and rise for me! I was lost but now I’m found - was blind but now I see. Amazing love has lifted me! I sing to You, my heart is Yours, I lift my hands, surrender all. My precious Lord, my King of kings, to you I bow, to you I sing.
And now I live to seize the day; to honour You in all Your ways. Your endless love, my greatest need. Your endless love now shines in me!
Chorus (twice)
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
Priest: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Priest: All glory and honour be yours always and everywhere…
…we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and saying:
All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Priest: Merciful God, we thank you for the gifts of your creation, this bread and wine…
…drink from this all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it in remembrance of me: We proclaim the mystery of faith:
All: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
Priest: Renew us by your Holy Spirt, unite us in the body of your Son… …we worship you in songs of never-ending praise.
All: Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen.
THE LORD’s PRAYER
Priest: As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray:
All: Our Father in Heaven Hallowed be Your name Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours Now and forever. Amen.

Priest: The gifts of God, for the people of God. Holy things for holy people. The priest invites the congregation to receive Holy Communion or a blessing.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

After Communion we are invited to sing the College Hymn together.
COLLEGE HYMN
ON EAGLE’S WINGS
Michael Joncas © 1979 New Dawn Music. Used with permission under College’s copyright licensing arrangements.
You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, who abide in His shadow for life; say to the Lord, “My refuge, My rock, in whom I trust”.
Chorus
And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand. The snare of the fowler will never capture you and famine will bring you no fear; under His wings your refuge His faithfulness your shield.
Chorus
You need not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day. Though thousands fall about you, near you it shall not come.
Chorus
For to His angels He’s given a command to guard you in all of your ways. Upon their hands they will bear you up lest you dash your foot against a stone.
Chorus
… And hold you, hold you in the palm of His hand.
CHALLENGE BY 2024 COLLEGE CAPTAINS
Charlotte McDowell and Benjamin Fowler.
Extract from author Marianne Williamson, famously quoted by Nelson Mandela in his 1984 Inaugural Presidential Address.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves: Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear our presence automatically liberates others.”
THE BLESSING
God the Father, who places in our hearts the spark that searches for wisdom and for truth draw you into the paths of life as you learn and grow day by day.
God the Son, the Light of the World, teach us to live in love and service to others, help us bear one another’s burdens and give us courage to bring reconciliation and healing to the communities in which we live and work.
God the Holy Spirit, who fills us with the breath and life of God, enflame our heart’s fire so that we may truly be lights shining in the world God loves.
And may the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit rest upon you and remain with you always.
All: Amen.
