Breakfast With Santa Saturday, December 9th 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Santa is making a special trip to Westminster! Bring your family to enjoy breakfast, activities and crafts at our traditional event. As 2023 comes to a close, let’s look back on the incredible events and memories we’ve created together as a community.

Our Senior Center festivities have been a delightful highlight throughout the year. Countless smiles, laughs and delicious meals have been shared together, and we’re grateful for the joy that has been brought to our aging community. Our Family Resource Center continues to make a difference by offering a wide range of supportive resources and activities that strengthen families and enrich lives in our community. Our ever so popular Bunny Hop pop-up events kicked off our Spring season. Plus, the community came together to celebrate Earth Day, which reminded us of the importance of preserving our beautiful planet.

2023 Fall Festival

Summer was celebrated with our Movies & Music series. Families got to relax, enjoy quality time, and create lasting memories at out beautiful Civic Center Sunken Gardens. And of course, Safety Day at Sigler Park was again a huge hit. The Fall Festival and Halloween Spooktacular were a true celebration of the Autumn season. This year, we expanded our Fall Festival to three days. It was a tremendous success with a record number of attendees and overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants and community members. It was great to see the kiddos dressed in their spookiest costumes for our annual Halloween Spooktacular; enjoying Trunk or Treat with over 45 trunks and the addition of community ofrendas. The night was capped off with a movie under the stars. To top off the season, Westminster’s first Pickleball Courts were opened at Sigler Park. We’re happy to bring the fastest growing sport to our city! As Winter approaches, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming events that will continue to bring us closer together as a community:

Tree Lighting Ceremony - Monday, December 4th Santa on the Go! – December 8th, 9th & 16th Breakfast with Santa - Saturday, December 9th Looking ahead to 2024, we are excited to announce our upcoming Tet Parade, “Year of the Dragon”, which will be held on Saturday, February 10th. This is one of our largest and most anticipated cultural events in our city, with the vibrant parade attracting over 15,000 attendees each year. Also, keep an eye out for some of our playground renovation projects – there is much to be excited for in the next year. From the entire Community Services & Recreation Department, we wish you a joyful holiday season and we hope to see you at one of our events or programs soon. PARKS & PLAYGROUNDS PROGRAM The City of Westminster offers a FREE after school program for youth! Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Beginning Monday, January 8th at the parks noted below. This program offers a safe, fun and positive environment where youth, ages 6-12 years old, can participate in a variety of activities in a recreational setting. Activities include arts and crafts, sports, outside play, and lots more. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by a parent/adult. The supervision children receive at this program differs from childcare, as children are free to come and go. Pre-registration is recommended. Prior to the start of the program, register online at www.westminster-ca.gov or at the Community Services & Recreation Department. Registration forms will also be available at the parks. Special Winter Vacation Schedule We will be extending our After School Parks Program hours during winter break at the sites listed below. Park hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during winter break, weekdays only, Tuesday, December 26th through Friday, January 5th. Parks will be closed December 25th and January 1st for the Holidays.

City News Community Emergency ReSponse Team The West Orange County Community Emergency Response Team or CERT Program is comprised of those who live or work in Buena Park, Cypress, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Seal Beach, Westminster and their attached communities. The CERT Academy is a 20 hour course and fills up quickly so reserve your seat early by pre-registering at www.westcountycert.com. The West County CERT Program’s primary purpose is to educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact them at home, at work, or at play. The CERT Basic Training covers basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members are better able to assist their family, neighborhood or workplace following an event when first responders (paramedics, fire, and police) are not immediately available to help. In an emergency, CERT teaches you to take care of your personal safety first, then your family, and then those around you. It is important to know what to do to protect ourselves and our family members before, during, and after an emergency event. Once the basic CERT training has been completed CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects, bi-monthly Team pot-luck dinners and other events like the Westminster Tet Parade.
