Supervisors Message

Hello and greetings to all. It is hard to believe that we are almost at the half way point in the year. Summer is just around the corner, the days continue to get longer, and the weather is finally warmer. Its prime time to get out and enjoy the season and your community. As always the Senior Center has a plethora of activities and presentations for you to enjoy. Mark your calendars now to make sure you do not miss out on any of the fun that is set for this month.

There are two very special luncheons planned this month, and how convenient that they are on the same week, to kick start your summer. On Wednesday, June 12 the center will be celebrating all the dads with a BBQ burger luncheon and live entertainment by George Rossi. At the end of the week on Friday, June 14 there will be the annual Flag Day celebration and lunch. There will be an interactive art activity before lunch with volunteers from Citi Community Investing and Development. Both events require advance registration. Make sure to book your space with the front desk before they sell out.

On the education and activity front there are quite a few presentations including health and wellness presentations by nurse Julie, Dr Trinh from MemorialCare, and Independence at Home. There will be an important presentation by OCFA about water safety and hydration needs. There will also be an updated presentation by Steve Levin on the current scams targeting the older adult community. Stop by and listen to learn the tips and tricks to avoid falling victim to a scam. The center will also be offering several new virtual recreation and activity classes on select mornings. Stop on in and check them out. Sign up with the front desk to attend as space is limited.

Beat the heat this summer and come on over to the Senior Center. There is something for everybody to enjoy this season. As always age well and thrive.

• Have your eyes checked by an eye doctor at least once a year. Wear glasses and corrective lenses as required.

• Plan your route before you drive.

• Find the safest route with well-lit streets, intersections with designated left-turn signals, and easy parking.

• Leave a large following distance between your car and the car in front of you.

• Avoid distractions in your car, such as listening to a loud radio, talking, or texting on your phone, and eating.

• Consider potential alternatives to driving, such as riding with a friend, using ride share services, or taking public transit.

The Westminster Senior Center is always looking for ways to engage the older adult community and to provide space for you to share your day and your talents with others. If you have a class idea or a hobby that you would like to share, a social club that you would like to start, or an activity that you are passionate about, please let the center know.
