MEET SUPERINTENDENT DR. PAMELA SWANSON

Welcome to Westminster Public Schools,

I realize you have many choices to consider when deciding where to send your child to school and I know it is one of the most important decisions any of us make.

We have created this district guide to share with you all the advantages that Westminster Public Schools has to offer, but I believe the best way to really learn about WPS is to visit our schools and talk with our principals and teachers. As you may have heard, we are a district “WHERE EDUCATION IS PERSONAL” and if you spend any time in our schools you will see what I mean.

Our unique Competency Based System (CBS) is at the heart of our personalized approach to learning, which ensures that every student gets the attention and support that they need. Our Competency Based System requires students to show mastery or understanding of a learning topic before they move on to the next level. This approach allows some students to advance more quickly while others may take more time to fill in gaps in their education. Our goal is to make sure that every student is ready for the day after graduation.

As any parent knows, every child learns differently and WPS not only acknowledges that fact, we celebrate it.

WPS has also embraced the idea of continuous improvement for both students and staff as we work to become better at what we do and move confidentially into the future. Our Board of Education has adopted Destination 2030, which provides a detailed plan for the coming years. You can read it yourself at mywps.org/Destination2030

Speaking of the future, in the coming years you will hear a lot about Ranum Reimagined. It is a unique public/private partnership we are developing on the Iver C. Ranum Campus just east of 80th and Federal. Local community colleges and businesses are working with us to develop an education environment that will prepare students for the high paying, rewarding jobs of the future. Ranum Reimagined will take Career Technical Education (CTE) programs to a new level while opening doors to higher education for students who choose that path.
