Established in 2005 by a gift from the Prospect Hill Foundation of New York City and named for William S. Beinecke ’32 and his son, John B. Beinecke ’65, the fund helps underwrite academic workshops and clinics, conferences for academic departments, training for new teachers and visits to campus by teaching specialists.

PETER BRIGGS ’71 SABBATICAL FUND

Established in 2021 by members of the Class of 1971 to mark their 50th Reunion and honor the remarkable 43-year Westminster career of classmate Peter Briggs, this fund supports the faculty sabbatical program. The fund includes principal and income transferred in 2021 from the Taylor Sabbatical Fund, established in 1979 by a gift from The Ruth and Vernon Taylor Foundation at the direction of a member of the class of ’71.

ROBERT F. BYNUM ’69 CHAIR IN SCIENCE

Established in 2019 by Mark and Lupita Holley and their son, Dylan Holley ’20. The fund supports a travel grant each year for a member of the faculty.

Established in 1992 by trustee Bernhard ‘Buz’ Kohn ’66, P’92, this fund provides stipends for faculty summer travel grants.

Established in 2000 from many gifts in honor of faculty members Richard and Linda Miller P’86, ’89 upon their retirement, this fund supports various programs to enrich the faculty.

O’BRIEN FACULTY AWARD $142,533

Established in 1997 by Mr. and Mrs. Hans L. Carstensen III P’93, ’96 in honor of former trustee Frank ’Junie’ O’Brien Jr. and his wife, ’Muffin,’ this award and stipend are given annually to a faculty member “who has been selfless and generous with time and care in the support of Westminster students.”

PANTALEONI-WEIL FUND $45,612

This fund was established in 1992 by Mr. and Mrs. William P. Weil P’92, ’94 in honor of Mrs. Weil’s parents, Heath and Adreana Pantaleoni, to promote professional growth by providing annual income for teachers to attend conferences.

The Jenny And Bill Philip Faculty Support Fund

Established in 2021 by Class of 2021 Sixth Form parents and other current and past parents to honor Jenny and Bill and provide annual support for the faculty in perpetuity. The fund provides resources for all components of faculty support including graduate education, travel grants, enhanced professional development, salaries and health benefits.

SABBATICAL PROGRAM FUND $292,779

This fund in support of the faculty sabbatical program was established in 2017 by Townsend Mink ‘46 and his son, trustee emeritus T. Treadway Mink, Jr. ‘77, P’11, who served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 2011-2016. Former trustee Ellen Breed and her husband Alan P’11, ‘15 have also made a significant commitment to distinguish the vocational commitment faculty members make to Westminster students.

NICHOLAS J. SEIBEL MEMORIAL FUND $799,414

This fund was established in 1961 in memory of Nicholas J. Seibel ’53 by a classmate to provide faculty compensation in the form of annual bonuses.

JOHN SHERWIN JR. ’57 AND W. GRAHAM COLE JR. CHAIR

Jack Sherwin ’57, P’83, ’89, Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1997 until 2004, established this chair in 2010 to honor his close friend Graham Cole H’09, the school’s seventh headmaster, and to recognize Westminster leadership. This chair is awarded every three years to recognize a senior faculty member who sets the standard for leadership and embodies the true meaning of Grit and Grace.

THE SPEAKMAN FAMILY TRAVEL GRANT $94,971

This fund was established in 2018 by several members of the Speakman family in honor of their family’s legacy, which has links to Westminster that trace back to the early 1940s and include three generations of alumni and one faculty member. The fund supports a travel grant each year for a member of the faculty.

Established in 2003 by trustee Charles Evan Stewart ’70, P’11 in honor of his mother, this fund provides professional growth opportunities for members of the History Department.

SWAYZE FACULTY FUND

Established in 1992 in honor of Townsend S. Swayze ’55, P’86, former head prefect and past chairman of the Board of Trustees, this fund provides a stipend that is awarded annually in recognition of a teacher’s “outstanding contributions to the life of the school.”

Established in 2003 by former trustee Hi Upson ’50, P’86 the income supports the salary of a faculty member in the humanities who is a master teacher of writing. The Upson Chair rotates every five years.

Established in 2019 by trustee Madeleine Ekholm and her husband, Borje P’19, ’20, this fund supports the ASSIST Program, which brings one full-need, academically talented and multilingual international student to Westminster for a full academic year.

Established in 2002 by Frederick D. Fischer ’80, F. Conrad Fischer P’80 and Charles D. Wattles ’75, the fund was renamed in 2016 to recognize the commitment of so many within their family, including Catherine and Peter J. Barnes III P’10, ’16, Margaret F. Barnes ’10 and Kenneth R. Barnes ’16.

This scholarship was established in 2005 by trustee David Griffith ’72 and his brothers, Charles Griffith Jr. ’56, GP’11, ’14, ’15, ’17 and Alan Griffith ’60.

ROBERTS HARRISON JR. SCHOLARSHIP $809,895

This scholarship was established in 1974 by former trustee Mr. Roberts Harrison and his wife, Greta, in memory of their son Roberts Harrison Jr. ’70.

This scholarship was established in 1982 by Bruce O. Hawes ’45 in memory of his father and uncle.

Established in 1995 by Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Humann through the Humann Foundation in honor of their son, Christian ’86, the scholarship is to be awarded to a boarding student of middle-income means.

Established in 1989 by Mr. and Mrs. Richard K. LeBlond P’73, ’76, ’77, this scholarship is given to a rising Sixth Former “whose participation, enthusiasm, vitality and interest in others have helped and inspired his/her companions and the school.”

McAllister Lloyd 1915, former president of the foundation and a former trustee of Westminster, the scholarship is given to a student showing promise of leadership capability who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend Westminster.

This scholarship was established in 1958 by C. McGhee Baxter Jr. ’37, P’79 and other gifts from family and friends to honor the Milliken family’s extraordinary commitment to Westminster School.

This scholarship was established in 2018 by former trustee Anne Moran, her husband Michael, and their three daughters, Lizzy ’06, Caroline ’09 and Emily ’12.

SOAR TOGETHER SCHOLARSHIP FUND $1,840,380

This scholarship was established in 2021 following the successful completion of the Soar Together Campaign. A generous, anonymous donor offered a $10M challenge to support financial aid if the campaign achieved $90M in gifts and pledges. The legacy of this gift will support legions of worthy Martlets.

This scholarship was established in 2004 by the Class of 1964 at their 40th reunion and by members of the Perry family in memory of Stephen ’64, who lost his life while serving in the Vietnam War.
