A HUGE THANK YOU A HUGE THANK YOU

Please join us in thanking Russell Company and Reliable Insurance for sponsoring live music at the Farmers Market this season Having live music helps to create an upbeat and energetic atmosphere for vendors and patrons to enjoy!

We are still looking for a few more musicians for the season! Email us at wlparks@westlafayette in gov for more information.

Policies Policies

Animal Policy

Dogs are welcome to join you at the West Lafayette Farmers Market, but they must remain outside of the vending areas where food is being sold. We kindly request that no other pets be brought to the market so that the event is enjoyable and safe for everyone, including the staff Dogs must be on a leash at all times

Biking

Biking to the market is encouraged because it helps with parking and it's an eco-friendly option However, bikes are not allowed to be ridden in the market area They must be parked in the designated bike stand area after walking them into the market The same rules apply for children and toddlers to ensure everyone's safety

Parking

Please have patience with parking! There are several parking options available, including Cumberland Park, Salisbury Street, the John R Dennis Wellness Center, and street parking in nearby neighborhoods To help free up more parking for our patrons, we have requested that vendors only use one space at the market this year

Photography Notice

When you attend events and facilities of West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department, you enter an area where photography, audio, and video recording may occur. Photos and videos will be used for the West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department's social media pages, newsletters, program guides, website pages, and other publications If you have photos you would like to share, please email them to parksmedia@westlafayette in gov

Staff and Crew

What does it take to run the West Lafayette Farmers Market for the season? It takes a village! With the support of the City of West Lafayette, the West Lafayette Parks Department works hard behind the scenes to ensure the market succeeds each year. From setting up SNAP and WIC, to hiring seasonal staff, to working with the Tippecanoe County Health Department, there is much work that takes place before the market opens for the season in May During the market, we'll have staff on hand to help all the vendors with setup logistics, while our AmeriCorps crew members and the Parks and Recreation maintenance team will be at the market to help with setup and cleanup

Eat Local Produce

Eating local produce has several benefits for both our health and the environment. Firstly, local produce is fresher and has a higher nutritional value than imported produce This is because local produce is harvested when it is fully ripe, whereas imported produce is often picked before it is fully ripened to survive long transportation times. Picking produce before it is fully ripe can lead to a loss of nutrients during transportation, meaning that we miss out on important vitamins and minerals when we consume them.

Additionally, eating local produce supports local farmers and the local economy. By purchasing produce from local farmers, we are helping to support their livelihoods and keep money within the local community This, in turn, helps to build a more sustainable and resilient local food system. Another benefit of eating locally is that it helps to reduce our carbon footprint. Transporting produce over long distances requires significant energy, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Eating locally reduces the distance that food travels, reducing the carbon footprint associated with food transportation

Finally, buying local produce encourages biodiversity and reduces the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers Local farmers are often more likely to grow a wider variety of crops, which contributes to the preservation of crop diversity. Additionally, local farmers are more likely to use sustainable farming practices that reduce the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides, which is better for both the environment and our health.

SNAP and WIC

We are set up for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) again this year at participating booths
