Return To Dingle The West Kerry Photos of Martin Rosswog

TEER GALLERY ESTABLISHED 2001 Celebrating 21 years in business!

Martin Rosswog is a German photographer who frequently visited Dingle from the 1970's to the 1990's and through his photographs he documented life in the area. When Martin first arrived in West Kerry he befriended the late Peadar Curran from whom he and a friend hired a pair of piebald ponies. It was a friendship that lasted through the decades, with Martin spending a lot of time with the Curran family, indeed Peadar and his daughter Lisa often accompanied Martin on his photographic trips around the peninsula. His photographs captured Dingle houses, streets, shops and pubs, farmhouse interiors, landscapes and local people and of course the famous Dingle Races. Lisa has organised for an exhibition of twenty of Martin's hand printed photographs to be brought to Dingle. The exhibition will open at 7pm on Saturday 16th July in An Díseart, Green Street. Guest speaker on the night will be Declan Malone who will consider "The Social Context of a Dingle Past Life". The same venue will host a talk and slide show on Sunday July 17th at 12.30pm where Martin will show a selection of his slides from the time

The guest speaker will be Carl O'Flaherty who will read from his soon to be published collection 'Dingle/ Ventry and Lispole'. The exhibition will run until Wednesday 3rd August. The exhibition has been entirely funded by the generosity of the local Dingle people home and abroad and by friends and supporters of Martin's work. Without this support it would not have been able to bring this exhibition to Dingle and to start the next phase of Martin's work which is to make a documentary film of the changes to Dingle since his time here. A gofundme page has been set up to help fund the project at https:// gofund.me/aa621416

Don’t Get Let-Down on Holidays by the Let-Down Effect

reactivate dormant viral infections such as herpes simplex 1 (which causes cold sores) and Epstein-Barr virus (which can trigger fatigue, fever, sore throat and swollen glands), for which symptoms are only obvious after a few days. This explains some of those post-stress symptoms.

Irene Ní Fhlannúra

The hormones which mobilize your immune system against illness during stressful times are down-regulated once the stressful period ends - your immune system pulls back its troops, and the body becomes less vigilant in weeding out invaders, leaving you more vulnerable to a viral or bacterial attack in those first few days. At the same time, says Schoen, a reservoir of body chemicals called prostaglandins, left over from the stress response, tends to produce inflammation, and can trigger problems like arthritic pain, migraines and inflammatory skin conditions. Likewise, an increase in inflammation can exacerbate autoimmune conditions, as can our own response to being in unfamiliar surroundings.

A new term making the headlines recently is the “Let-Down effect” also known as the Let-Down syndrome. This newly labelled condition describes how our bodies succumb to illness the moment we take time off, the moment we let down our hair, so to speak. How many times have your heard of, or even experienced yourself, arriving at your holiday destination only to spend the first few days in the bed – sick, in pain and extremely fatigued? It is a thing and even though I have only recently learned its official name – post-stress illness has been a thing for quite some time. The classification and recognition of this pattern in medicine is new, not the condition itself explains psychologist Marc Schoen, clinical professor of medicine in UCLA. His investigations examines “people who come down with an illness or develop flare-ups of chronic conditions not during a concentrated period of stress but after it dissipates”. With vacation season officially open, and people taking a well-earned break from what has been an extraordinary stressful period, it is not too late to learn how your food and lifestyle in the run up to your holiday can prevent this kind of let down. The Let-Down effect is most associated with conditions such as upper respiratory infections, flu, migraine, headaches, dermatitis, arthritis pain and depression within a few days of being on vacation. People living with chronic inflammatory and/or autoimmune conditions such as fibromyalgia, asthma, Crohn’s Disease and Lupus have also seen increase in flare-ups while away on holidays. Prof. Marc Schoen and his team pinpointed that the Let Down effect is triggered in the first three days of your holiday, yet many symptoms can linger depending on your own vulnerabilities and risk factors. During acute stress, the body releases key hormones – including glucocorticoids (like cortisol), catecholamines (like norepinephrine) and adrenaline – to prepare itself to fight or flee from danger and to trigger the immune system to step up certain types of surveillance for the threat of attack. In the process, glucocorticoids can

HOMEOPATH

Interestingly, most of the recommendations from these studies require slowing the pace leading up to a holiday and building in some strategies to wind down slowly in those first few days of your holiday. These include some tried and trusted stress-management techniques – yoga, meditation, breathing techniques and improving sleep. But when you just have a few days to prepare, the best thing to do is concentrate on breath – breathing in such a way that you tune into it, slow it down and be aware of your inhale/exhale flow. Schoen also recommends that instead of going from 100 to 0, in terms of stress, to wind down in increments in the days prior to your holiday – 100, 80, 60, 40….. lessening the demands as you approach your holiday. He goes on to say that in those first few days of your holiday, instead of hitting zero all of a sudden, to include some moderate stress-inducing exercises (hill walking, jogging, paddle-boarding) and mental exercises with time limits (to induce a little stress) such as time-restricted sudoku, crosswords and word-game at the beginning of your break. Studies have shown that those who wind down slowly and include a little “controlled stress” in the first few days of holidays as described above fare out much better than those who go from high-doh to zero on the way to their destination. From a nutritional point of view you can ease much of “Let-Down Effect” by making sure that you are having regular mealtimes in the week before you go on holiday. This means three square meals every day, evenly spaced out with a couple of snacks in between. Steady eating will guarantee that you are setting a reassuring pattern, ultimately sending signals to your body that “all is well, relax”. Preparing for holidays can be a high-stress time, making sure that all the jobs are done, clothes are laundered for the suitcases and the family pet is cared for, not to mind those last few work-related tasks that “must” be finished off before you go. Exercise, time outdoors, home-cooked meals and good sleep are unwittingly sacrificed in the last few days leading up to a holiday, which increases the stress response, leading to a sharp downfall once everything is done. Factor this into your pre-holiday schedule, making sure that you have the shopping done for that last week, time schedule for exercise and getting outdoors and get to bed before 11am this time of year – so that you wind down slowly in the run up to your break. Support your stress response by eating foods rich in vitamin B5 (yogurt, eggs, legumes, lentils mushrooms, avocado, broccoli, sweet potatoes, corn, cauliflower, kale, and tomatoes). Also, include foods that influence your prostaglandin reservoirs to stimulate an anti-inflammatory response, i.e, healthy fats (avocado, sardines, tuna, walnut, pumpkin seeds, olives and olive oil). In doing so, you will also diminish the rise in inflammation caused by the post-stress debris, explained above. Supplementing with omega 3, B vitamin- complex and Vitamin C can also be a useful before and during your holidays. Rest assured, that while there are multiple factors involved in the poststress response, some common sense, good food and sleep before your holiday will make it more likely that it will be the well-earned break you and your family deserve. Happy Holidays to all our readers, bain súp as! Irene Ní Fhlannúra (Flannery), Nutritional Therapist at www.omnom.ie

Farming News Louis Murchan GLAS+ BALANCING PAYMENTS OF €650,000 ISSUED DAFM has announced that balancing payments for the GLAS+ participants have commenced. These payments are to those GLAS participants who undertook exceptional environmental commitments and are accordingly rewarded under GLAS with an additional annual payment of up to €2,000 in with this element of the Scheme known as ‘GLAS+’. The balancing payment represents the final 15% of the 2021 GLAS+ payment and completes the total payment for GLAS actions undertaken in 2021. Regular pay runs will be in place over the coming weeks to issue payments as GLAS cases are cleared for payment. Any GLAS participants with outstanding documentation including Rare Breed Forms or those who have been contacted by the department with queries in relation to their GLAS participation or BPS application should respond as soon as possible in order to facilitate the early issue of payments. FODDER SUPPORT SCHEME HAS WORTH €56 MILLION Further to the announcement on Monday 20 June regarding the online application system for the €56 million Fodder Support Scheme, DAFM advises farmers that the application system has been updated and is now open for farmers who have ANC Category 1 land. This land had previously been displayed as ineligible for the scheme but will now be eligible to apply on where the applicant commits to cut and conserve silage and/or hay on this land before 5 September. Any farmer who has previously submitted an application that may have been affected by this change will be contacted by the department in due course. As this is a subsidy/grant there is no point in applying unless you actually make silage and need it. the payment does not meet the total cost of per acre production. Ground inspections will take place and where there is evidence of over-claims, penalties will apply. Farmers who wish to apply for the Fodder Support Scheme should do so, as soon as possible, as it may be over subscribed to. Closing Date is 2 August 2022, but don’t leave it until then, as that is the middle of the holiday season, and your advisor may be on holiday, (if they can get a flight out of the country). ACRES: WHAT DO WE KNOW SO FAR The new The Agri Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES), comes into effect from January 2023, and will be the main farmer environmental scheme under Pillar II of the new CAP. Unlike GLAS, this will have two different entry streams, for farmers. These will be called ACRES General and ACRES Co-operation. ACRES General will be available nationally (apart from certain high-priority geographical areas), which will offer a range of both targeted and general actions for farmers to undertake. ACRES Co-operation is available to farmers in the eight high-priority areas, which will be referred to as co-operation project (CP) zones. This approach will involve results-based payments, as well as bespoke farm and landscape actions. The eight CP zones are: Burren; Donegal; East-Southeast; Midwest-Southern Uplands; North Connacht-Ulster; Northwest Connacht; South MayoConnemara; and West Cork-Kerry. Many farms West of Annascaul/Clahane will be excluded from these co-operative areas, so farmers in this area will come under “Individual Application Process”. Each of these zones will have a CP team who will assist with the implementation of actions. It is understood that these teams will be made up of agri-ecologists, many of whom have previously worked on European Innovation Partnerships (EIPs) involving farmers. Regardless of which approach a farmer finds themselves in, their agricultural advisor will need to develop a Farm Sustainability Plan (FSP) for their farm. Farmers should note that they cannot chose between ACRES General or ACRES Co-operation. If your land falls outside a CP zone, then you are eligible for the general approach only. A farmer will be eligible for ACRES Co-operation if at least 3ha or at least 20% (whichever is less) of their farm holding (that was declared as forage/habitat in the 2021 Basic Payment Scheme) falls within a CP zone. 10 Corca Dhuibhne Beo

The budget allocation of €1.5 billion is set to facilitate around 50,000 participants, with 30,000 of them entering ACRES General and 20,000 entering ACRES C0-operation. It is proposed that the intake of applicants will be phased across two tranches to spread the workload of advisors. In terms of payment, ACRES General offers a maximum payment of €7,311 per applicant per calendar year, with an expected average payment (based on 30,000 participants in this approach) in the region of €5,000. Actual payment rates will be based on selected actions. ACRES Co-operation will offer a maximum payment of €10,500 per applicant per calendar year. This figure is in turn broken into a maximum of €7,000 for a results-based element and a maximum of €3,500 for non-productive investments or landscape actions. Applications must be submitted by a agricultural advisor. For commonage farmers, if you declared at least 0.5ha of commonage in your 2021 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) application and continue to farm this at a minimum stocking density, you will be given priority access to ACRES. However, you must undertake the ACRES commonage action on all commonage land declared in your 2022 BPS application, regardless of whether or not it secures priority access. Land Leased or rented for the duration of the scheme can be included. Ranking and selection criteria will be applied to all applications across both approaches of the scheme. They will be evaluated based on a set selection criterion designed to rank the applications in accordance with environmental objectives. When this process is complete applicants will be informed if they are successful!! Advisor training is will soon commence, so there can be no commencement of the application process, until this is complete. Farmers are therefore advised to be patient. All applications will be submitted on time. Unfortunately, due to the terminology mentioned above about Selection Criteria, the scheme smacks of a lottery system, and this will have to be resisted. This scheme should be for all farmers, or none. It cannot be tolerated that one farmer gains access to the scheme, while his neighbours do not. This is what happened in REAP last year, resulting in many farmers being disappointed and not gaining access to REAP. 3 WAYS TO CUT LAMB WORM RISK AT WEANING Sheep farmers trying to make the most of grass to counteract sky-high concentrate prices are advised to be vigilant for parasites in lambs post-weaning. Grazing grass can put lambs at higher risk of ingesting worms that cause parasitic gastroenteritis (PGE), Grass growth has been pretty good this year, so that will aid weaning and growth rates early on, but with concentrate prices so high, people will be more reliant on forage. Reduce stress by keeping lambs out of sight and sound of ewes, so they cannot hear each other. Wean lambs on to pasture they know for two to three days to reduce the stress of diet change. Once settled, they should be moved on to clean grazing. Consider splitting lambs into short-, medium- and long-keep, to avoid having to handle them unnecessarily. Some farmers are moving away from tailing and castrating. For these, weaning may be an appropriate time to split off any ram lambs, too, as these will grow faster and could impregnate ewe lambs. Manage worm burdens by moving lambs onto “clean” grazing. Silage aftermath and fields that have been grazed by cattle are also low risks. Watch growth rates regularly and carry out faecal egg counts (FECs) to flag any risks. Growth rates may tail off after weaning, but they should stabilise three to four weeks later. Afterwards, targets of 200g/day should be achievable. If you do not know which anthelmintics work on your farm, ask your vet to carry out an FEC reduction test, whereby several anthelmintics are tested against a control. It is good practice to administer wormers to lambs in August/September to kill any remaining worms and help slow the resistance to other groups of anthelmintics. Check trace element levels in flock. Slow-growing lambs could be a result of deficiencies in trace elements. Cobalt is particularly important for growth, and dry summers can cause a lack of cobalt in grass. Speak to your vet about what oral drenches, boluses or injections are available. Buckets are not ideal because 20% of sheep will eat 80% of the lick. When should lambs be weaned? •

Ewe body condition score (BCS) The target for lowland ewes at weaning is 2.5 and for upland ewes is 2. If BCS is low, consider weaning

early. •

Lamb growth rates Pre-weaning lambs should aim to achieve a minimum of 250g/day. Research suggests that lambs weighing less than 17kg at eight weeks never reach their full potential. Consider weaning slow-growing lambs early and putting them on to a high plane of nutrition.

Grass availability If grass growth is slow, consider weaning earlier to avoid lambs having to compete with ewes for grass.

€21.7 MILLION BASIC PAYMENT SCHEME REFUND TO OVER 100,000 FARMERS The commencement of payments of over €21.7 million to approximately 100,000 farmers has begun. This money was deducted from 2020 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) payments under Financial Discipline and is now being reimbursed to farmers in line with the EU regulations. The deduction is part of the annual procedure by the EU and involves a monetary deduction from direct payments as part of a Reserve Fund, which is intended to provide additional support for the agricultural sector in the case of major crises affecting agricultural production or distribution. If the Crisis Reserve is not activated in the financial year, or it is not fully utilised, the unused balance is refunded to farmers in the subsequent financial year.

Biodiversity in Corca Dhuibhne. “Would you like to help promote biodiversity in Corca Dhuibhne? The Corca Dhuibhne Pollinator project has been set up by a small group of local volunteers who would like to increase biodiversity on the peninsula by encouraging local adoption of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan which is an initiative of the National Biodiversity Data Centre. You may have noticed recently that there are many more dandelions, clover and wildflowers being left to bloom in public spaces both across the country and around the Dingle Peninsula. Maybe you have already changed your own mowing routine or would like to set aside an area of your garden for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. If not, maybe you could take one small action to help our threatened pollinators such as butterflies, bees and dragonflies? All you need to do is pledge an area of green space for pollinators, by committing to one or more simple actions such as: •

Don’t mow, let it grow (mow every 4-6 weeks to allow clover & other native flowers to bloom)

Don’t spray – the overuse of herbicides is making it difficult for pollinators to find flowers for food

Choose Pollinator friendly bedding plants (Begonias, Petunias and Busy lizzies don’t provide food for bees and insects – try Catmint, Bugle, Calendula)

Sign up to the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan where you can also find out more ideas and information.

The Corca Dhuibhne Pollinator Project is a great way to do our ‘little bit’ to supporting biodiversity, our flora and our fauna, on the Dingle Peninsula. The Project would like to support you in your efforts and encourage others to do the same by promoting your actions. From the 1901 Census in West Kerry Ted Creedon

(In January 1893 it was reported that the Dingle mail car was attacked at night by a mob at Derrymore. The driver, John Moloney, and Lord Ventry’s son, Richard de Moleyns were struck by stones and the cart’s lantern was smashed. Both the driver and de Moleyns chased after two of the attackers but lost them in the darkness. When they returned to the car de Moleyns’ sword was missing. It seems that a crowd of young people were heading home from a dance and got up to mischief. The sword was later returned.) Dykegate Lane John Herlihy, 17, from Dykegate Lane was a postman. His mother, Maryanne, 41, was a widow with six children. Also living in Dykegate Lane were William Walsh, 16, a rural post boy and his brother John, 14, a telegraph messenger.

In this issue we take a second look at the people who were working for the postal service on the peninsula, from Camp to Dunquin, according to the 1901 Census which was taken on Sunday, 31 March. In addition, some history of the service is included.

( In April 1893 Thomas Moloney –or was it John? – the Dingle mail car driver applied to the courts for a license to carry a revolver to protect himself and the mail from attack by people along the road. The Magistrate, Captain Keogh, advised Moloney to carry a stout blackthorn stick until the onset of winter and the application for a revolver license would then be reviewed.)

Ardamore (Lispole)

Curraduff (Camp area)

James Casey, 60, was the Postmaster in Ardamore, according to the census. He was also a shopkeeper and a farmer. (While Lispole is not mentioned in the Census, the post office was in what is now the village of Lispole in the townland of Ardamore.)

Mary Burns, 35 and a widow, was a Postmistress in Curraduff. She was born in Cork as were her two children. Patrick Griffin, 20, of Ballyknockane was a postman.

(In August 1824 the Dingle Postmaster Joseph Smith failed to turn up for jury duty at Tralee assizes and was fined £5 – probably equal to between £400/500 today. In August 1825 an attempt was made to rob the post boy of the mailbag between Dingle and Tralee. He ran to a house and was sheltered there for the night. The mail was secured). Cloghane (Ventry) Mary O’Sullivan, 75 and a widow, was the Postmistress in Cloghane while her son Denis, 34, was the Assistant Postmaster.

(In 1899 the death occurred of Michael Jeffcott who had been a mail car driver on the roads of Kerry for some fifty years – even before the new road between Dingle and Tralee was constructed, according to one report. Construction on the new Dingle to Tralee road began in the early 1820s). Michael Jeffcott had a son – Father M. J. Jeffcott who was parish priest of Oshawo and later of Ajala in Canada. He left Canada for Killarney in June 1907 to celebrate the silver jubilee of his ordination in 1882. His friends and parishioners organised a going-away party for him which included the presentation of a ‘purse of gold’.)

(In June 1877 the Dingle mail car driver, Maurice Langan, was obstructed from entering the post office in Tralee, with the mail, by George Nagle. The matter was raised at the Petty Sessions and Nagle was fined ten shillings. The mail car service was operated by a Mr. Benner at that time.) Dingle/MainStreet Elizabeth McCarthy, 33, was the Postmistress in Dingle and Margaret Herlihy, 19, was her assistant. Both women were in Lee’s Hotel on Main Street on Census night. Mrs. McCarthy was the sister of Mary Lee, hotel keeper. Delia Fitzgerald, 19, was also a post office assistant. Cornelius O’Sullivan , 20, and his brother Thomas, 19, were both postmen. (In June 1892 the mail car broke down near Camp and, according to one report, the car, the driver and the mail were put on board the train. We don’t know if the train was heading for Dingle or Tralee - or what happened to the horse.) Green Street Jerry Connor , 16, from Green Street was a telegraph messenger.

What's Happening in The Hub? An tAire Eamon Ryan visits Corca Dhuibhne On June 24th Dingle Hub, as part of the Corca Dhuibhne 2030 initiative, Dingle Hub hosted a visit from Minister Eamon Ryan who was here to meet the partners involved and see some of the projects happening. The Corca Dhuibhne 2030 initiative aims at transitioning Dingle Peninsula to a low carbon and resilient community by 2030 and has several projects in progress to achieve this. The Minister had travelled from Tralee by Local Link bus service and the first stop was Michael O’Dowd’s farm near Castlemaine. Michael’s family participate in Corca Dhuibhne 2030’s Creative Climate Action Project (Corca Dhuibhne Inbhuanaithe – A Creative Imagining). Minister Ryan heard the challenges that farmers face from Climate Change and how diversification of activity can be part of the solution. Michael’s mixed enterprise incorporates a dairy herd, apple trees to produce ‘Ring of Kerry Apple Juice’ and poultry.

His farm has been involved in several Corca Dhuibhne 2030 energy projects and the Minister was shown how technology can assist farms with efficiencies. e.g. mobile phone app can inform how much energy particular farm equipment uses. Sensors placed in the field provide information on the rate of grass growth. These kinds of data help farmers in making day-to-day decisions. Sensor technologies were deployed through Corca Dhuibhne 2030’s Sustainable Innovation Pilot under the EU Ploutos project which is enhancing sustainability in the agri food sector. The Minister has since tweeted to his nearly fifty thousand followers “As I discuss energy efficiency at the European Energy Council today I use Dinny Galvin farm in Co. Kerry as an example of smart & enterprising use of energy on farms…Dinny has always been one step ahead, installing a heat pump way back in 2006 & has an array of solar panels…. & is sharing his knowledge & practices with other farmers. This smart thinking & collectiveness will be our driving force”. Comhghairdeas Dinny! An cuid deireanach de thuras bus an Aire, bhí sé go ceann scríbe i mbaile an Daingin. The final leg of the bus-trip was on to Dingle town. On arrival at Dingle Hub he was introduced to a Corca Dhuibhne 2030 initiative that is in development, the Sustainable Mobility Pathfinder Project. This is a pilot project whose primary concern is decarbonising rural transport by identifying and providing realistic alternatives to private car journeys. We also showcased a pathway to developing an Anaerobic Digestion facility on Dingle Peninsula which could solve multiple climate challenges as well as delivering products like bioenergy that can fuel vehicles. Anuas air sin, léiríodh don Aire bealach i dtreo forbairt áis Díleá Anaeróbaigh ar Chorca Dhuibhne a d'fhéadfadh roinnt dúshláin aeráide difriúla a réiteach, chomh maith le táirgí ar nós bithfhuinnimh mar bhreosla do chairteacha a sholáthar.

Minister Ryan in the middle of O’Dowds Family Farm - A Status Yellow rain warning was in place! Chuala an tAire Ryan faoi na dúshláin atá roimh fheirmeoirí de bharr Athrú Aeráide agus an tslí gur féidir le héagsúlú a bheith ina chuid de réiteach na faidhbe. Mar chuid den fheirm mheasctha atá ag Michael, tá tréad déiríochta, crainn úill as a ndéanann sé ‘Ring of Kerry Apple Juice’ agus éanlaith clóis. Léim grúpa an Aire Ryan thar n-ais ar an mbus chun taisteal siar ar an leithinis go dtí Lios Póil, áit a stopadar ag feirm déiríochta Dinny Galvin. Is é Dinny bunaitheoir PFI Fheirmeoirí Déiríochta Chorca Dhuibhne, ach anuas air sin bíonn sé ag obair le Dingle Hub mar Oifigeach Idirchaidrimh Fuinnimh agus Talmhaíochta. Bhí a fheirm siúd páirteach i roinnt tionscadail fuinnimh de chuid Chorca Dhuibhne 2030 agus taispeánadh don Aire conas mar is féidir leis an teicneolaíocht cabhrú le héifeachtacht ar an bhfeirm. Mar shampla, d'fhéadfadh aip fóin phóca léiriú cé mhéid fuinnimh is a úsáideann maisíní difriúla feirme. Soláthraíonn braiteoirí amach sna páirceanna eolas faoi ráta fáis an fhéir. Cabhraíonn an saghas faisnéise seo le feirmeoirí agus iad i mbun cinní laethiúla a dhéanamh. Suiteáladh teicneolaíocht bhraiteora mar chuid de Scéim Phíolótach Nuálaíochta Inmharthana de chuid Chorca Dhuibhne 2030 faoi thionscadal Ploutos an Aontas Eorpaigh atá ag feabhsú inmharthanacht in earnáil an agraibhia.

Bhí an deis ag an eagras 'Bia Dingle – Gréasán Bia Chorca Dhuibhne', a sheolfar go luath, míniú don Aire Ryan faoina mbranda 'Bia Dingle', a eachtraíonn scéal bia Chorca Dhuibhne. Tá sé d'aidhm ag an ngréasán seo pobal bia Chorca Dhuibhne a dhéanamh níos láidre, níos fearr, agus níos inmharthanaí trí chomhoibriú fad is a ndéantar ceiliúradh ar oidhreacht agus stair bhia an cheantair. The soon to be launched association ‘Bia Dingle – Corca Dhuibhne Food Network’ also had the opportunity to tell Minister Ryan about their brand ‘Bia Dingle’ which tells the food story of Dingle Peninsula. The Minister also toured Dingle Hub workspaces, where he met some of our clients. Net Feasa explained their operations in the Shipping Container and Cargo Tracking world. James Greany is one of our longest-standing clients, here since 2019, and he explained his business which designs and manufactures high quality sustainable merchandise, products made from hemp. He presented Minister Ryan with Dingle Hub branded merchandise that his company created. James had only finished his final Leaving Cert exam a few hours beforehand!

Minister Ryan’s group jumped back on the bus to travel along Dingle Peninsula to Lispole where the destination was Dinny Galvin’s dairy farm. Dinny is the founder of West Kerry Dairy Farmers’ SEC and also works with Dingle Hub as an Energy and Agriculture Liaison Officer.

James, Minister Ryan with his Dingle Hub merch and Deirdre de Bhailís in Dingle Hub offices The Minister commended the work happening within the Corca Dhuibhne 2030 initiative, and has since spoken on The Pat Kenny Show (Newstalk) about his visit “Really fascinating, some really interesting stuff going on”. It was a great success, thanks to all the work that was done in preparation. Fair Play do gach éinne a bhí páirteach. Seo í an Ghaeltacht! We want to network with people working on the peninsula. It’s not necessary to have or use a physical desk or office space in Dingle Hub to be part of this wider community. We recently held another of our get togethers for Remote Workers, this time in Castlegregory where many people who came along were new to working from home. Plenty of useful information was exchanged, e.g the website www.growremote.ie which is dedicated to making remote work visible and accessible. Everyone left feeling a bit more connected!

Maharees Regatta Barry Heasman: Chairman, Maharees Regatta Committee It was just brilliant to have our Regatta back this year after a break since 2019 due to covid 19. 2020 was to be our 50th year and we had secured the All Ireland Championships for the event. The all Ireland is at different regattas every year and we were terribly disappointed that we weren’t able to go ahead due to the covid virus. We are hoping to host the All Ireland next year in Maharees. The day was great, lots of spectators there cheering on the oarspeople. The weather wasn’t great at the start of the regatta but improved immensely. We had 10 races in total 5 junior and 5 senior races. We had a great turn out of spectators and competitors a huge number of juniors from Dingle. They are doing a great job back there with the younger oarspeople. There was an icecream van and a chip wagon along with a crepe trailer and stalls with toys for the children. Which kept people entertained and fed in between races. There was some excellent rowing on display and some very close races/battles for the finishing line. The prize giving was done outside the Greenroom Bar in Ceannduimche. There were great crowds there and food was available from “Beefy’s Bites” food trailer. Everyone was happy with their prizes and there was a raffle for 13 prizes in total done after the oarspeople collected their cups and prizes. The oarsman of the day award went to Eoin Honan. His 6th in a row in Maharees, an incredible achievement. The oarswoman of the day went to Beibhinn Sheehy very well deserved too.

Summer Chicken Stew with Tomatoes and Herbs By Mark Murphy, Dingle Cookery School

you will love it, serve with a nice potato salad. Ingredients 4 chicken legs

Put a pot on over medium heat, add a little oil and the onions. Allow these to cook for about 10 minutes. Stir every now and then.

2 onions 1 tin of tomatoes

While this is cooking remove the chicken from the bones and use a knife to shred the chicken. Add this to the onions, add the tin of tomatoes and chicken stock. Season with a little salt and pepper.

4 tomatoes, seeds and diced 200ml chicken stock 3 cloves, crushed small bunches of dill, coriander, parsley, basil, all chopped finely Don’t let the word stew put you off cooking this especially at this time of year. This is definitely a summer dish, all of the herbs, garlic and tomatoes bring this to life and add so much freshness to it. Give it a go I promise

Man Who Drove Sheep Through London to Launch Puck Dan Tim O’Sullivan drove a flock of sheep through the centre of London. Now the Kerry native is set to launch Puck Fair 2022. O’Sullivan’s shepherding adventure was the result of being granted the Freedom of London in recognition of his success running one of the largest construction firms in the UK. An old British tradition allows Freeman to graze sheep in London and in 2021, O’Sullivan decided to exercise that right by driving a flock over Southwark Bridge as thousands of fans looked on. His shepherding stint caught the attention of the Puck Fair Committee, who were impressed by his skill in manoeuvring the animals, which they hope will translate into a knack for crowd control, a key skill set needed at Puck Fair. Organisers have declined to comment on the rumour that O’Sullivan intends to revive his role by shepherding goats across the bridge in Killorglin. However, they can confirm that O’Sullivan will sing at the press launch, which takes place in Francie Sheahan’s Pub in Killorglin on the 16th of July at 8:00 PM. Puck Fair returns in full in August 2022 after a two-year hiatus. The event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid 19. This year’s fair will take place on the 10th, 11th and 12th of August in Killorglin, County Kerry in line with tradition. The festival kicks off on the 10th of August with the crowning of a mountain goat by a local schoolgirl followed by a parade through Killorglin. The three-day event will also feature a horse fair, cattle market, live music, street food, market stalls and a fun fair. A fireworks display will conclude the fair at midnight on August 12th.

Léargas an Lae le Louise Nic an tSionnaigh

le tacaíocht ó Thobar Dhuibhne – Plean Teanga Chiarraí Thiar RÉAMHFHÓGAIRT: “Fadhbanna,” an chéad domhan a bheidh á bplé san alt seo. Rabhadh tugtha!

é a dhéanamh riamh arís) – muintir tíortha áirithe, is breá leo leanaí; bhí beagnach gach freastalaí agus cócaire ana-thógtha lenár leaidín…nuair a bhíomar ag iarraidh ithe…agus gan a bheith ag caint. Rinneamar iarracht íoc as an mbéile leis, agus go tobann ní rabhadar chomh tógtha leis a thuilleadh. Hmph. Agus is breá le daoine an cliabhán beag a fheiscint, agus féachaint isteach le miongháire mór groí orthu, ag tnúth leis an aingeal a fheiscint. Ansan cíonn siad an plubaire téagartha, brúite isteach i rud bídeach (b’shin an rud is éatroime agus áisiúla le tógaint linn!), agus tagann an fón amach….chun glaoch a chur ar choibhéiseach an I.S.P.C.C. b’fhéidir. Rud amháin faoi dul in áit iasachta le leanbh – bhíos ana-bhaoch bheith ag filleadh abhaile. So, go raibh maith agat, a phlubaire, as sin. Is cuimhin liom, tráth, nach rabhas in ann teacht ar mo dheirfiúr ar an bhfón ar feadh cúpla uair a chloig. Ar deireadh thiar sheol sí téacs a dúirt, “Táimid ag fanacht sa bhaile don deireadh seachtaine, cúirtíní dúnta, ag ithe popcorn, ag breathnú ar scannáin, gan an doras a oscailt nó an fón a fhreagairt, agus á thógaint go bog.” Bia? Tic! Cultúr? Tic! Sos? Tic!! Gach rud san áit ceart? Gnáth-aimsir? Do leaba féin? Gan éinne (nua) ag cur isteach ort? Gan taisteal nó strus nó pacáil ar bith? Anois - laethanta saoire 2023 sórtáilte!

Tommy Murphy Painting & Decorating

Cén fáth a théimid ar laethanta saoire? Chun sos a fháil? Cultúr a bhlaiseadh? Bia coimhthíoch a bhlaiseadh? Athrú radhairc? Scíth a ligint? Iad siúd ar fad, is dócha, agus taitneamh a bhaint as an saol. Más ea, mar sin, cén fáth – CÉN FÁTH (déarfaidh mé arís é)?!! – a théann daoine le leanaí óga?

High Quality Work Assured Power Washing Fully Insured

Ar an gcéad dul síos, tá an phacáil; na giuirléidí ar fad a thagann le leanbh – agus ná bí ag caint faoin dtrealamh. Seachas má thá tú ag iarraidh níos mó airgid a sháigh i bpóca Micheal O’Leary (atá cheana féin lán go barra), caithfidh tú dearúd a dhéanamh ar gach rud a bhaineann leat féin, ach amháin b’fhéidir péire fothbhrístí agus scuab fiacla (cad eile a bheidh uait ar aon nós?!). Caithfear céad culaith a thógaint don leanbh agus dhá chéad clúidíní. Ba chóir go mbeadh mála draíochtúil Mary Poppins ag gach éinne, nach bhfuil aon bun air. I gcomhair daoine chomh beag, úsáideann leanaí gach uile orlach spáis.

Ansan, tá an taisteal. Ar an dea-uair, bíonn na daoine beaga saghas áisiúil san aerfort; is féidir dul thairis na scuainí fada má tá paisinéir i mbuggy agat (n’fheadar an féidir déagóir a chur i gceann. Is fiú é a thriail). Agus bíonn seomra cothú i roinnt aerfoirt, a thugann faoiseamh ós na sluaite agus ón nglór. Ach ansan tá an eitilt féin. Muna bhfuil leanaí agat, seans gur cuma leat faoi seo, ach ana-sheans, nuair a chíonn tú duine ag teacht i do threo ar an eitleán le paisinéir beag, glórmhár, lán le frídíní agus smugairlí, deireann tú leat féin, “Ní in aice liomsa. Ní in aice liomsa,” b’shin mar a bhíos-sa i gcónaí!). Agus gan dabht, plabann siad síos in aice leat, agus sin tusa agus, “Peekaboo,” mar dhlúthchairde ar feadh trí uair a chloig, agus tusa agus turas ciúin suaimhneach in éineacht le do leabhar nua mar chol seisir fréamh-gaolta. Níl taithí ar dul ar long le leanbh óg agam go fóill, ach déarfainn go bhfuil seodra chomh taitneamhacha ag feitheamh orm nuair bheidh san á dhéanamh agam. Ansan, nuair a shroicheann tú an áit, tugtha traochta, ag cur allais agus ag iarradh saoire a thógaint ón saoire, tá gnáthchúrsaí an lae curtha sa bhfraocha. “Ach b’shin cad atá uaim le briseadh!” cloisim uait. Aha! Ní sa tslí seo. Am néal codlata – sa bhaile, 10 r.n., 1 i.n. agus 4 i.n. Thar lear – cá fios? Má tá am deimhneach uait, seo leid; déan plean dul áit éigin deas a bhís ag iarraidh dul le tamall do am áirithe, agus geallaim duit go dtitfidh an miondeachtóir ina gcodladh sa lóistín agus gan a bheith in ann iad a bhogadh díreach roimhe. Ag tnúth le codladh déanach ar maidin? Fadhb ar bith…..mar ní bheidh tú ag dul a chodladh go dtí a trí nó a ceathar a chlog ar aon nós, mar tá clog an síofra measctha suas ar fad. Cloisim go bhfuil an Íoslainn agus an tAigéan Antartach ana-dheas má tá tú ag iarraidh bruth teasa a sheachaint don leanbh. Ach mar a dúras ag an tús, seo iad fadhbanna daoine ámharacha, agus gan dabht tá dea-rudaí faoi dul thar lear le leanaí (cé nach bhfuilim chun

Dingle Notes Richie Williams WELCOME. On behalf of the people of Dingle I wish to extend a big Céad Míle Fáilte to the families from war torn Ukraine who have come to reside in the Spa Road area of town. The language barrier may be a difficulty for a while but we sincerely hope that they will be made very welcome and become part of the community during their stay here in Corca Dhuibhne. PUBLIC FUNDING. Dingle Tidy Towms Committee recently reviewed their progress in the various projects undertaken over the past 5 years. General satisfaction was expressed but central to the success have been the contribution played by the Management and staff of Kerry County Council. Aside from financial grants for specific projects the local Area Engineers, local office staff and ground workers and local representative have all been most helpful and deserve special mention for their ongoing efforts. Their prudent management and use of scarce public funding in completing many long awaited projects have been welcomed by both locals

and visitors to the area. Prime examples would be the funding for major improvements like Ventry, Conor Pass, Ballinaboula and Inch with many more spread throughout the Peninsula. All monies well spent to the long term benefit and safety of all road users. Míle Buíochas and keep up the good work everybody. IONAD AN BHLASCAOID. So there is still time to get your pets groomed, your garden produce prepared or the baking ingredients ready to be part of this wonderful tradition here in West Kerry.

Cromane News Jane Casey Cromane GAA SENIORS: The Cromane senior team play their final county league this Saturday, July 9. They travel to Castlegregory for a game that has a 7.30pm throw-in. The team are coming off the back of one of their best performances of the year when they beat Beale in Cromane by 3-13 to 0-8 in the penultimate round. Let's show our support for the lads in Castlegregory on Saturday. MINORS: Central Region Division 2 semi-final: Glenbeigh-Glencar/Cromane (GGC) 2-6, John Mitchels 0-12 The GGC minors played John Mitchels in Tralee last Monday in monsoon conditions. A draw was a fitting result in this Central Region Division 2 semifinal showing, once again, that there is very little between the two sides. This was their third meeting of the year: it is now one win apiece and a draw. GGC led by 1-5 to 0-6 at the break, the goal coming from Jack McGrath. This was despite playing into the driving rain in the first half. However, they couldn’t kick on in the second half as John Mitchels worked hard to get back into the match. GGC led, thanks to a second-half scrambled goal, with the end closing in, but a late John Mitchels free ensured the game would end in a draw. Ryan O'Connor was solid in his first outing in goals, while Liam O'Neill made a welcome return after his exploits with the Kerry minor panel. Team: Ryan O’Connor; Jed Dando, Daniel O’Sullivan, Matthew Murphy; Ben Sugrue, Tony Og Duffy, Jamie O’Sullivan; Liam O’Neill, Keilen O’Sullivan; Fionn O’Sullivan, Keith Moriarty, Joshua O’Sullivan; Brian Cahill, Jack McGrath, Matthew Naughton. Sub: Alex Scannell, Robert Baggott. UNDER-15s: Under-15 Central Region Division 4 (round 2): GGC 3-9, DromidWaterville 3-14 The GGC under-15s are competing in Division 4 of the Central Region this year. They started their campaign with a battling display in Dromid last Wednesday evening. There was plenty of encouragement in this one for our lads for their games to come. They will also compete with Castlegregory, Renard-St Mary’s, and Skellig-Valentia in this Division. Their round 3 game is against Skellig Rangers-Valentia before finishing with two home games against Castlegregory and Renard-St Mary’s.

UNDER-13s: County League Division 16 semi-final: GGC 1-6, Fossa B 1-8 The GGC under-13s finally were able to play their county league semi-final in Glenbeigh last Tuesday. However, the game was still played in tough conditions. The game was originally fixed for Glenbeigh on the previous Friday but was postponed due to the inclement weather but it lasted longer than expected. Credit is due to both sides for trying their best in trying conditions. Fossa now take on Kilcummin in the Division 16 final. Team: Daniel Fenton; James Sheehan, Daragh O’Connor, Daniel Teahan; Jack Morris, Conor O’Sullivan, Conor O’Shea; Ben O’Shea, Diego Andreatta; Seamus Moriarty, Cathal Clifford, Cormac Clifford; Michael Foley, Liam McGrath, Daire Harkin. Subs: Liam O’Sullivan and Fionn Teahan. UNDER-11s: Our under-11s continued Phase 2 of the Under-11 County Go Games last Thursday when they travelled to play Kilgarvan. Once again, it was great to see over 20 players togged out in the maroon of Cromane. This year they have played a series of Go Games across two phases against St Michael’s/Foilmore; Renard-St Mary’s; Dromid-Waterville (twice); Annascaul; Glenbeigh-Glencar; Beaufort; Templenoe, and last Thursday’s game against Kilgarvan. The under-11s are coached by Kevin Teahan and Cian O’Keeffe. UNDER-9s: The Cromane under-9s are preparing for phase 2 of the county Go Games. They will take part in Group 8 of the Go Games competition where they are scheduled to play Ballylongford/Asdee; Lios Poil, and Knocknagoshel. Their next game (which will be their fifth of the year) is against Knocknagoshel at home in Cromane on Sunday, July 17. Many thanks to their coaches Martin Sweeney, Matt Colborne, Brian Hurley, and John Caplis. UNDER-7s: The Cromane under-7s play Laune Rangers on Sunday, July 17, in Killorglin, throw-in is at 10.30am. This will be their fourth series of games for the year. The coaches for the under-7s rotate during the year, many thanks to all who volunteer their team with this age group. SCOR NA BPAISTI: The Cromane quiz team took part in the County Scór na bPáistí finals in Dromid last Saturday afternoon. The team consisted 28 Corca Dhuibhne Beo

Camp Notes Brigid O'Connor WELCOME BACK Great to see the return of the tourists to the Dingle Peninsula following an almost 3 year gap due to the pandemic. Lucy and Vanda from the South of England staying at Camp Junction House B/B are among those back again enjoying breakfast every morning this week looking out on Tralee Bay, a panorama unequalled in any part of the world.

and Friendship between Ireland and Slovenia, Ines home country. Learn about history, food and music while enjoying a wonderful family day out. There will be stalls, farm animals. kids disco and garden games, 10 a.m to 5.00 p.m. Entry is free. Ines runs very successful B/B Farmhouse accommodation in her home receiving top class reviews. She is ably assisted by her husband, well known musician and sheep farmer, Eoin Knightly. Hope the day goes very well for you, Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh.

At the rear of Ashes Bar, Tommy and Marcella's Glamping experience is buzzing with excitement again and all accommodation in the area is in great in demand.

ANNASCAUL LADIES U/12

They are all so glad to be back, summer mists lifting and falling on the slopes of Caherconree, giving way to an occasional glimpse of blue sky and sun, all part of an Irish dream holiday, eclipsed in the aura of the Traditional Music in The Railway Tavern and Ashe's Sunday morning session.

If ever a game and a score line was misleading, then this was it, as Annascauls last quarter saw them eventually pull away from Laune Rangers.

Enjoy the best of cuisine in The Junction Bar/ Restaurant, The Diner at Ashes and O'Dwyers Mace, all day delicatessan. Book a desk in the Hub at O Dwyers Mace Retail Centre to catch up on business. Call into Sandy Feet Farm, an unforgettable experience for all the family.

U-12 County League Div 3 Laune Rangers 3-4 Annascaul 5-20

Our girls were slow to settle over in Killorglin as Laune Rangers first three attacks saw them plunder two goals as our defence took time to settle. Tara opened Annascauls account with a good point followed by a free from Saoirse before Rangers deservedly struck for their third goal. The versatile Muireann C after a great pass from Saoirse stole in and scored a fine goal before the first water break.

Louise and her team at Hair Heaven in the village will look after your hair and beauty during your stay.

Some choice words from Paddy and Ger settled the girls and we began the second quarter well with Lily driving a shot into the back of the net to raise a badly needed green flag.

Whatever your pleasure, a pint in the pub, a stroll and a dip in the gulf stream warm waters of the bay, a mouintain hike or walk on The Dingle Way, have a wonderful summer holiday in Camp.

Rangers kept coming but Caoimhe, Orla, Muireann M Katie and in particular Jenna and Annie were now tigerish in their tackling and clearing their lines.

AWARD Some good news for Castlegregory Golf and Fishing Club. GameOn at Castlegregory Golf Club has been shortlisted (from 189 to 35) for the national finals in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards, 2022. The next phase involves some online presentations and Q & A, before the current list of 35 is shortened to 7 for the national gala award night in October.

Aoife made a fine save and got good purchase on her kickouts as the hard working Lia and Captain Niamh drove us forward.

Well deserved, congratulations agus go n-éirí an tadh libh!

Laune Rangers started brightly and kicked two points before Tara fed Lily for her second goal.

CAMP TOWN TWINNING Camp Town Twinning group are visiting Glomel in Brittany, France this week enjoying a holiday in the lovely Breton countryside. It is now almost 25 years since the celtic villages of Camp and Glomel forged wonderful family friendships still going strong to this present day. Camp and Glomel later joined Tazones in Austurius in Northern Spain and all three communities enjoyed their experience, sharing similar traditions and culture. Wishing all well and continued success! Go n-éirí and t-adh libh SUMMER FAIR Ines and Eoin Knightly are holding a Summer Fair at their home, Shadow River Farm in Annascaul on August 7th. The event is to celebrate 30 years of Diplomacy

support esp when the chips were down. Thanks to Paddy, Mairead, Cathal, Donal, Neil, Brendan and Ger for their help with the girls. Most of all thanks to the hard working girls who finished on top of Division 3 of the county league and face familiar opponents in Knock/Brosna at a neutral venue in the County league final. COMMUNITY GAMES Annascaul Camp Inch Lispole. Well done to all of our athletes who competed in the county finals this weekend. Huge congrats to Lauren Crean who was second in shot putt and Kieran Keane who was third in discus. Lauren from Camp will represent Kerry in August at the National finals. WEDDING Congratulations to Pádraig Rice, Cappaclough, Camp and Aaron O Sullivan, Middleton, Co. Cork who were married on Saturday last in Cork. Family and friends joined the happy couple in a lovely celebration. Wishing you both the best of health and happiness in your future life together. Go n-éiri an t-adh libh. OBITUARY Sympathy is extended to Mary Uí Mhoráin, Ballinknockane, Camp and all the family on the recent death of her Uncle Mons Moss O'Connell native of Abbeydorney who passed away peacefully in his Presbytery in Stretford,Manchester. All Ireland Medal holder with Kerry and Honorary Abberydorney GAA Vice President and hall of fame recipient, Mons O'Connell was a great footballer in his time. Rest In Peace.

Good forward play by Holly, Tara, Lily and Muireann saw us tag on points from Saoirse, Lia and Aoibhinn to see the half time score: Laune Rangers 3-1 Annascaul 2-6

Fresh legs saw Amy K, Aislinn, Jane, Maria, Sadbh and Roisìn all raise the tempo and helped Annascaul to defend or set up scores as the girls drove on. With Orla, Caoimhe and Muireann M shutting up shop in defence,Tara blasted to the net and we continued the keep the scoreboard ticking over with some excellent team points from Saoirse with 5, Niamh with 3, Lia and Tara before Aoibhinn side stepped into space to strike for our fifth goal to close out the game. Thanks to Laune Rangers and the ref for a good tough sporting game.

Ó Mhárthain

chomhluadar. Soillse na bhFlaitheas ag a anam caoin cuideachtúil.

Breandán Mac Gearailt

Ionad an Bhlascaoid. Is fiú do aon duine bualadh isteach go Ionad an Bhlascaoid agus sólas a bhaint as an gceardaíocht atá déanta go slachtmhar. Labhair an tAire stáit agus lucht Roinn na nOibreacha Poiblí agus mholadar an obair agus an tionchar atá ag pobal an Bhlascaoid ar gach éinne. Gan dabht ní bheadh siad féin san áireamh mar gur i mBéarla a labhradar seachas cúpla focal Gaolainne.

Bhí trí lá agus trí oíche ag na baill do Chonradh na Gaolainne a bhí linn anseo an deireadh seachtaine seo caite. Bhí ceol, cuideachta agus cur is cúiteamh agus sport. Cuireadh fáilte cheolmhar roimh Uachtarán an Chonradh Paula Melvin, Bleá Cliath agus chuir Louis Ó Coileáin, Cormac Ó Maoldomhnaigh agus a iníon Eimear ceol ós ár gcionn anairde. Bhíodar ar fheabhas. Thug na Conrathóirí turas ar an mBlascaod agus nuair a bhí lán a súl do sin fachta acu, bhuaileadar isteach dtí Láthair an Bhlascaoid. ‘Bhíomair an – thógtha leis’, arsa Seán Ó Súilleabháin ó Chontae Liadroma. Bhí siúlóid go Cuas na Nae acu agus Tomás ó Lúing á gcur ar an eolas. Bhí dóthain cur is cúiteamh nuair a bhí Pleanáil Teaghlaigh, Teanga agus Tithíocht á bplé. Léirigh Orla Ruiséal an obair atá ar bun le cur in úil do thuistí bóthar na Gaolainne a thabhairt ortha féin. Dar léi go raibh an pobal an- cháirdiúil agus an-shuim acu an Ghaolainn a chur chun cinn chomh maith is a fhéadfaidis. Dár le Breanndán Ó Beaglaoi nach mór athrú ó bhonn a dhéanamh ar na treoracha pleanála. ‘Tá ag éirí go seóigh leis an obair atá ar bhun againn i Halla Chíobháin i gcomhar le Ollscoil Chorcaí ‘ arsa Aoife Uí Shé.

Bhí sé curtha sara gcuala é, is baolach.

Is i nGaolainn amháin a labhair Máirín Ní Shúilleabháin iníon Mhuiris ‘Fiche bliain ag Fás’, go blasta, agus dhein bainisteoir an Ionaid Lorcán Ó Cinnéide a chúram go seiftithe sásúil. Pé scéal é mar chúram, cuir do cheann thar dhoras Ionad an Bhlascaoid agus bainfir sásamh as. Tá sé go hálainn.

Bhí bus mór fada ag muintir an Chonradh agus scata gluaisteán. Bhí ard rúnaí éifeachtach an Chonradh Julian de Spáinn ag réiteach bogadh, nuair a chonac é Dé Domhnaigh agus báibín beag álainn ar a bhaclainn aige. ‘Deireadh seachtaine socair, sásúil, cuideachtúil, bea é’ arsa fear óg ó Bhleá Cliath. Fear eile a bhí an-shásta, ná Seán cáirdiúil Prendergast, atá i mbun feachtais cabhrú le buanú na teanga tré Thobar Dhuibhne. Bhuaidh na sinsir ar an Neidín ag an nDomhnach seo caite agus anois tá seans beag acu fanacht i Roinn a hAon. Beidh siad in aghaidh foireann An Daingin a bheidh ar bharr Sraith a hAon, má bhuann siad, agus cuirfidh sé seo brú ceart ar an nGaeltacht fanacht i Roinn a hAon. Fuaireadar a bheith acu ós na Cait atá ’aiséirithe’. Ambaice gur thug an Ghaillimh a ndóthain le déanamh dos na Luimnígh. An- chluiche ar fad. Thug Luimneach an lá leo nuair a éirigh ortha sna neomataí deiridh. Beidh déarfainn a ndóthain le déanamh ag Luimneach in aghaidh Chill Choinnigh atá arís lán do cheol. Beidh na peileadóirí seo againne ar a ndá dhícheall déag in aghaidh Bhleá Cliath an deireadh seachtaine seo. Beidh Doire á fhéachaint le Gaillimh. Bhuaidh mionúirí [nó fé seacht bliana déag]Thiobrad Arainn ar Uí Fháilge i gCraobh na hÉireann le poinnte suarach amháin- fuaireadar, na Tiobradaigh báide sa neomat deiridh. Tá foireann breá ag éiri aníos arís in Uíbh Fáilge. Is iontach an radharc cluiche maith iomána.

Thank you to all those who sent beautiful flowers, chocolates and lovely gifts, and also to those who phoned me. Many thanks to my good neighbours who called to my house and bought gifts. Thanks to my postman Martin who delivered all the cards. Lastly, I want to say a big "Thank You" to my own family who arranged a lovely party for me at home.
