Fundraising Concerts at An Díseart

"As Summer unclouded shines 'round us, And bees pass on musical wing, We invite you to come to The Díseart, To meet with your neighbours and sing !

Dingle has risen from the nadir of famine Ireland to its position today as one of the most popular places to live or visit in this fair land of ours. Notwithstanding that increased popularity it is obvious to us that nowhere really exists within the town of Dingle where people meet for the purposes of education, relaxation and cultural experience. The Díseart, as it unfolds, is filling this void for the present and hopefully will continue to do so into the future.

An Díseart are organising 2 concerts this year to raise funds to meet the needs of the centre and to assist in keeping its doors open. The first concert is on Sunday, June 1st @ 4.30p.m. when the iconic, Irish folk rock band, Scullion take to the stage in the Díseart garden. Join us on the Bank Holiday weekend on Green St. where many of Dingle's fine musicians today played their first tentative notes within its walls. The second concert is on in December 11th when the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Choir will present Handle's Messiah. This musical masterpiece has offered the same message for almost 300 years - the message of hope. It is appropriate that it will be presented in St. Mary's Church on the Díseart site where hope for Dingle was realised through hard work over many years. Our hope is that the Díseart will remain as a place of inspiration and personal development into the future. We invite you to join us there to connect with your creative potential and Tickets available at An Díseart and EventBrite

60 Seconds with Laura Barry

What was your first job?

I started work in the Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig as a waitress when I was in Transition Year. I was on €6.06 an hour and haven’t felt as rich since!

What is your favourite film?

The Lion King, 1994, all day long. The Shawshank Redemption and Remember the Titans are top notch too.

What is your favourite book?

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom - first book I read in one go and a solid life lesson about the importance of conversation.

What was the first CD / Tape / Record you bought?

Kate Winslet - What If. I wrote the words out on a few A4 pages and genuinely believed I sounded like her.

What was your favourite holiday?

Any I’ve had with family over the years - our cruises up the River Shannon were iconic.

Animal Kingdom Lodge in Orlando was off the charts though, their Mickey Mouse pancakes are yet to be beaten.

What is your favourite drink?

Barry’s Tea without a doubt.. Or something cold on a sunny day in Dick Mack’s Yard. That said, something warm in the snug on a cold/rainy day too.

Who is your favourite actor?

Roy Keane is excellent in those adverts. The man could sell craft beer to Aussie!

What advice would you give to your younger self? Keep it going - you’ll get there in the end. Be sound to everyone. Go to Dingle.

Who is your sporting hero?

Mairéad Donovan and Joe Deane. They gave and still give their heart and soul to the association.

Two figures from history you'd like to have as dinner guests?

Grace Gifford Plunkett and whoever shot Michael Collins. That would be fascinating really. We’d finally know. If the latter couldn't make it, I'd imagine Vincent Van Gogh would be incredible company.

If a time machine could take you anywhere for one day, when/where would you go?

One of my childhood Summer days in the back garden with all my family, my late grandparents and our nearest and dearest that we’ve lost. I’d love to see them altogether and see what they’d make of us now and the world they missed out on. Imagine the advice. The craic would be 90.

What’s your favourite saying?

Enjoy life, it’s not a rehearsal.

Pat Hanafin

AIDO'S ANNASCAUL CAFE AND POTTERY

Spearheading your plate to Summer Glory!

Asparagus has enjoyed an almost lofty reputation since it was first depicted in Egyptian wall art around 3,000 BC. A revered plant among Roman upper classes, Greek botanists and early medicine practitioners, asparagus continues to hold its head up high today — now widely available to all, regardless of class or kitchen confidence! Perhaps its spear-like shape gives it an air of superiority, or maybe the celebrity chefs made it “all fancy.” Whatever the reason, there’s a lot to celebrate once those vibrant green shoots burst through the soil.

In Ireland, home-grown asparagus is at its best from the first week of May to mid-June — roughly forty days and nights of pure asparagus joy. For those of us in the west, local growers say the season often starts a little later, so patience is rewarded. As the season wraps up, the spears begin to open and toughen, losing their signature tenderness. Like any truly seasonal vegetable, asparagus arrives just in time to support the body’s shift toward the lighter, heart-friendly foods of Summer. Nutritionally, asparagus is a bit of a show-off — in the best possible way. It’s rich in rutin, a bioflavonoid that strengthens capillaries and has been used to help lower blood pressure, treat haemorrhoids and varicose veins, and prevent venous leg ulcers. It also boasts an impressive dose of folate — just 100g provides about 67% of our daily needs. Folate plays a key role in red blood cell formation, supports the nervous system and helps lower homocysteine levels in the blood. For women of child-bearing age, folate is especially valued for its role in preventing neural tube defects in newborns. Other nutrients of note include vitamins A, C, E and K, dietary fibre and key minerals. Asparagus is quite the hero in the gut too, offering a special kind of fibre called inulin. Inulin doesn’t get broken down in the upper digestive tract — instead, it travels to the large intestine, where it becomes a feast for beneficial bacteria like Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria. A healthy colony of these microbes is linked to better nutrient absorption, a lower risk of allergies and even a reduced risk of colon cancer. In fact, much of the vitamin K we get from asparagus (and other greens) is produced by these friendly bacteria once they’ve been well-fed. A perfect little synergy: we nourish them, they nourish us.

Traditional Wisdom and the “Water-Drinker’s Vegetable”

As well as being celebrated on our plates, asparagus has a long history in traditional medicine as a gentle diuretic. Ancient Greek and Roman physicians recommended it to support kidney and bladder function, referring to it as a natural way to flush excess fluids from the body. In fact, asparagus was sometimes called the “water-drinker’s vegetable” for its reputation in promoting urinary health. While today’s science focuses more on its fibre and antioxidant content, it’s interesting to see that the ancients may have been onto something — nourishing

the body from the inside out, one spear at a time.

With the asparagus season also comes the age-old question — does it really make your pee smell funny? Some researchers point to sulphurcontaining compounds as the likely culprits, but the evidence is inconclusive. And honestly, does it matter? Either asparagus alters our urine, or it simply heightens our sense of smell. In any case... why is anyone sniffing their pee?

One more curious claim: asparagus has long been considered an aphrodisiac. Is it the shape? The folklore? Marcel Proust famously wrote that it “transformed his humble chamber pot into a bowl of aromatic perfume.” Perhaps the jury is still out on that one, but what we do know is this: any food that supports blood vessels and circulation — as asparagus does — will also benefit sexual health, especially for men.

Cooking Tips & Simple Prep Ideas

Young, seasonal asparagus requires very little fuss. The thinner the stem, the quicker it cooks. Steam it upright for a few minutes, with the thicker ends in the water and the spearheads gently steamed — this preserves both flavour and texture. To store, snap off about an inch from the base, rinse and wrap in damp kitchen paper in the fridge. Or better yet, stand them in a jar with a little water — like a bouquet of edible spears!

Favourite ways to eat asparagus:

• Roasted with olive oil and sea salt for a crispy, caramelised finish.

• Grilled for smoky, charred flavour — pair with lemon zest and herbs.

• Steamed simply with a knob of butter or drizzle of good olive oil.

• Asparagus soup made with onion, garlic and veggie broth — comforting and elegant.

• Raw in a salad, shaved or chopped, tossed with tomatoes, avocado and a zippy vinaigrette.

No matter how you enjoy it — roasted, raw or ribboned into soup — now is the time. Celebrate the short but glorious Irish asparagus season while it lasts. Snap it up while you can. Yum!

Ar son na síochána

On the 8th of May, I placed a wreath at the Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty memorial in Killarney to commemorate 80 years since the end of World War II. Thanks to Cllr. Maria Moloney who proposed that the wreath laying ceremony take place. Though Ireland remained officially neutral during the war, the courage and compassion of its people were far from absent. May the memory of those who served inspire us to stand against hatred, division, and violence in all its forms.

Plunged to his death

-Kerry Evening Post 16 June 1858

On Saturday last a young man named Cornelius Doyle, who was engaged in sinking a pump at the Killarney Lunatic Asylum, met with a tragic accident.

While getting into a bucket, in preparation of being lowered down by windlass to the bottom of the shaft, the windlass suddenly capsized and the young man plunged seventy feet to his death.

Assassin wanted

-Liverpool Daily Post 10 November 1860

We have just received information from a Kerry newspaper which states that a Kerry farmer has been arrested in Tipperary on a charge of trying to hire an assassin to murder his Landlord, a Kerry gentleman.

Farmer shot in Kerry

-Belfast Weekly News 18 August 1883

News reached here today that last night, about midnight, a farmer named Michael Connor, residing in his home at Dronin, a remote county place not far distant from Glenbeigh, suddenly came under attack.

The persons engaged in the attack were armed and fired several shots into the house. Connor defended his home but was wounded.

The police visited the scene of the outrage today and it is reported that two arrests have been made.

Connor had a dispute about a farm and has been an object of animosity. For this reason, there is little doubt that the outrage is of agrarian character.

Whale for sale

-Kerry Reporter 23 August 1884

On Wednesday, a whale measuring 63 feet in length (19m) and 27 feet (8m) in circumference was washed ashore on Immy Strand in Ballinskelligs. It is at present in charge of the Coastguard who have received instructions to sell it on behalf of the Board of Trade.

(In charge of the Coastguard? Imagine someone coming to the Coastguard station and asking, “How much do you want for that auld whale, Boss”.)

Hard Labour and Penal Servitude

-Kerry Evening Post 10 January 1857

At Tralee court this week Mary Shea and Catherine Griffin were convicted of stealing a purse, the property of Patrick Breen, which contained £4-10s, at Bridge Street, Tralee.

Mary Shea was sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour. Catherine Griffin, having been previously convicted, was sentenced to four years penal servitude.

(Hard labour for female convicts was much less strenuous than that for males. Women were often isolated, not allowed to talk and had to wear an iron collar. Penal servitude was intended to reform convicts and was not as severe as Transportation to distant lands.)

Little boy poisoned

-Kerry Reporter 23 August 1884

A terrible accident occurred last Thursday at Boherboy, whereby a child aged three years, named Gerald Connor, was poisoned. The circumstances of the tragedy are that the deceased was in the frequent habit of drinking out of a lemonade bottle at Cade’s Mineral Water Factory. However, on this day, and by accident, he drank out of a bottle containing vitriol which caused his death shortly afterwards. An inquest was held and

a verdict in accordance with the facts was returned.

(What was the three- year-old child doing in the factory on a regular basis?)

Schooner wrecked at Bull Head

-Report from Matt Moriarty, Lloyd’s agent, November 1850

The schooner Mary, home port Milford and sailing from Odessa, Ukraine, with a cargo of wheat and peas for Limerick, was wrecked on Bull Head recently.

The crew of seven men were seen clinging to the mast by the local peasantry but one by one they were dashed among the rocks.

One man remained on the mast at nightfall but by morning he was seen floating among the others in the sea.

Dingle Union Report

-Kerry Examiner 12 January 1849

State of the Workhouse, week ending 30th December 1848.

In the house 749 able-bodied, cost of maintenance £48 -15 shillings. Number of recipients of out-door Relief 7,880. Cost of out-door Relief issued at end of week - £180.

(There was no permanent Workhouse in Dingle in 1848 but a collection of temporary workhouses around the town and the wider locality. The permanent Workhouse opened in August 1850, according to Dr. Brosnan.)

Dingle Workhouse Supplies – Dingle Union

WORLD FIDDLE DAY

An accomplished group of musicians and friends attended Kate Mulcahy Rowlands launch of the 2025 World Fiddle Day at Lyon’s Bar in Scartaglin last Saturday.

In her warm address at the beginning of the Launch, Kate turned back the pages of time, rolling back the years to her childhood and told of the people who influenced her journey to becoming the musician she is today. Her parents Dan and Bridget and her grandmother and family in Cashel in Connemara who all played a big part in Kate's journey into the world of traditional music.

Kate recalled many Local traditional musicians from the Annascaul and Camp Parish Comhaltas group like Stanley Doyle, Jack Doyle and the Hilliard family from Castlegregory and many others, who encouraged and shared their stories and tunes and instilled in her a love of culture and traditional music.

Kate's good friend, Nora Rice, our talented Camp singer, was in Scartaglin supporting Kate on the day. Well done and congratulations Kate!

PIANO LESSONS

Expand your social circle in Corca Dhuibhne

Grow Remote is an Irish social enterprise whose mission is to make good quality jobs available to everyone, wherever they live - especially applicable to us in Corca Dhuibhne. The organisation helps workers find and thrive in remote jobs while also advocating on behalf of this sector. With more people working and wanting to work this way, there is an increasingly positive impact on rural societies. Jobs boards and more information on www.growremote.ie.

Potential downsides of working remotely include isolation, without colleagues next to you to share the load. To combat this, Grow Remote creates regular opportunities for remote workers to socialise and connect with each other. Towns across Ireland have local chapters with volunteer leaders setting up social events to enable locals meet-up. Aodán Ó Conaill & Liz Ryan are the Dingle Chapter leads, which is one of Ireland’s largest with circa 120 members, growing steadily every month. Other parts of Kerry have chapters too - remote workers can attend any chapter’s events.

The Dingle chapter tries to do something different each month, taking advantage of the brilliant resources here. 2025 highlights: beginners yoga, making St Bridget’s crosses at Púca café, cheering on the Six Nations Rugby in Paddy Bawn’s, Craic in Neligan’s with Irish set dancing, making pendants with Celtic Coastal Creations and a killer-pool evening in Dingle Bridge House! We love working with local organisations and businesses - especially newer and small ones & we welcome collaboration ideas, especially in the outdoor pursuits area. Also open to considering volunteer efforts locally.

If you (or someone you know) is working without the perks of a traditional workplace, or if there’s someone who is curious if remote work is for them, encourage them to come along to our next event. West Kerry GAA

U21 County Championship. West Kerry 1-19 Kenmare 2-18.

Michael Kennedy

Last Thursday West Kerry played Kenmare in the first round of the U21 County Championship in Lispole on a beautiful sunny evening. This was a club side facing a district West Kerry side. An enthralling and highly entertaining game saw Kenmare surge ahead right from the start with slick combination play from a group of players that were well drilled and used to playing together. The West Kerry defence struggled to cope.

After 25 minutes it was 1-8 to 0-5 for Kenmare. By half time 1-15 to 0-5. The same pattern continued into the second half and despite West Kerry getting a goal it was 1-18 to 1-6 with 20 minutes left, a twelve point deficit. Game over or so it seemed. But the West Kerry lads were having none of it and suddenly found their rhythm. Amazingly Kenmare were only to score once more.

West Kerry started to dominate the middle third and would do so until the end of the game. Home side tagged on point after point, then three two

pointers in succession, a single point and another two pointer and were a point ahead well into injury time. Two minutes from the end Kenmare got a penalty and goaled from it leaving them two points clear. Further attacking play from West Kerry failed to register and time ran out leaving Kenmare the victors on a scoreline of 2-18 to 1-19, a two point winning margin. Sadly there is no back door and West Kerry are out.

Kenmare's familiarity as a club side playing together from a young age stood them in good stead and enabled them to get a great start. By contrast West Kerry comprising players from 5 different clubs struggled to combine as an effective unit early on and it cost them dearly.

On a first outing like this, all things being otherwise equal, there is a big advantage to a club side used to playing together.

Well done to Kenmare and we wish them well going forward and they will be serious contenders.

However, there is huge potential in this West Kerry side and more is the pity that they do not have a second chance as they were bound to improve with greater familiarity. Full credit to the players and to Éanna O' Conchúir and his management team as they gave it their all in staging a remarkable fightback only to be pipped at the post.

As was hoped for under the new rules, the game produced some magnificent high fielding and several excellent two pointers.

FAMINE COMMEMORATION. The exhibition currently on display in Dingle Library as part of the local Great Famine Commemoration will be on view to the public until Saturday May 29th and is certainly worth a visit. The weekend programme of events were very well attended and much appreciated as the amount of information researched by the speakers really brought us back to the huge effect the Great Famine of 180 years ago had on places like West Kerry and far beyond also. The Famine Graveyard accessed through Chapel Lane is very well maintained and worth a visit being a healthy half hour walk from the town centre with splendid and far reaching views for miles around. Míle Buíochas to all involved in the local Great Famine Commemoration programme.

EVENTS. Feile Cheoil An tSamhraidh offers a great choice of classical, jazz and choral entertainment here in the Peninsula from Thursday May 22nd through to Sunday May 25th.

OUTWEST CLOTHING on Green Street are organising a special instore fundraising event on the evening of Thursday May 29th beginning at 5p.m. A range of garments will be for sale the profits of which will be donated to The New Wave Wild Project which funds the provision of Adventure Therapy Sessions for Young Adults in Need. This professional mental health therapy based around activities in outdoor environments has proved very successful for young and not so young adults since its inception in recent years .Everybody welcome to this very worthy event.

THE DUN LAOGHAIRE TO DINGLE YACHT RACE starts from the Dublin port on Wednesday June 11th and all of the 50 entries should be safely docked in Dingle by teatime on Saturday evening June 14th weather permitting. This is the 32nd anniversary of the popular 270 mile race which attracts entries by experienced crews from Ireland, Britain and European sailing clubs.

TIDY TOWNS. Following several recent occurrences of household litter being dumped at the Dingle Bring Bank and other locations the Tidy Towns Committee urge all involved in the short term or long term rental of properties to provide proper facilities for their clients with regard to disposal of such items. From a thorough examination of such litter it is quite clear that such items were from properties rented locally.

Work Evenings continue on Mondays meeting at the Bottle Bank at 7p.m. We especially appeal to all business outlets to make a better effort to regularly pick litter and keep the streets outside their own premises clean and tidy. Yes a better effort is needed folks so lets all spend a few minutes each day to help improve the image of our town for locals and visitors alike.

The Dingle Food Festival is looking for volunteers

Since its inception, the Dingle Food Festival has grown to become one of the most beloved culinary events in the region. Each year, thousands of visitors flock to our fabulous town to celebrate the abundance of local produce, the creativity of our chefs, and the vibrant community spirit that makes Dingle such a special place. Our dedicated team of volunteers has been the backbone of this success, ensuring that every aspect of the festival runs smoothly and that every visitor leaves with wonderful memories.

However, as with all good things, change is inevitable. Some of our long-time, passionate volunteers are stepping back after years of dedicated service. Their contributions have been invaluable, and while we will miss their presence, we are excited to offer new opportunities for enthusiastic individuals to join our team.

We are seeking volunteers who are passionate about food, community, and creating unforgettable experiences. Whether you have a few hours to spare or can commit to more, we welcome your involvement. Come be a part of our vibrant team and help us continue the legacy of the Dingle Food Festival. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, will make a significant difference.

The festival brings significant business to the pubs, restaurants and accommodation providers on the Dingle Peninsula in the shoulder season so it is important that these sectors are represented on the committee

On our committee we have openings for people helping organise the producers market, our workshops, volunteer coordination and the taste trail. This would involve attendance at our meetings online or in person approximately every two weeks and agreement to join a sub group and help organise a particular area of the festival.

On the weekend itself which is the 3rd 4th and 5th October 2025 we will need volunteers in all areas like ticketing, stewarding, and general volunteers, street entertainment and our sustainability initiatives carried out with our festival partners Transition Corca Dhubhine. These would be 4 hour shifts and you will receive a welcome pack and some taste tickets to enjoy the trail.

If you are interested in joining our committee and volunteering for the Dingle Food Festival, please reach

Together, we can ensure that this festival continues to thrive and bring joy to all who attend.

On The Slopes of Cnoc a' Chairn

(2015)

On The Slopes of Cnoc a' Chairn, Overlooking Dingle town, There's a burial enclosure

People call the Famine ground.

How many were interred here, A meal sack for a shroud, Buried in communal pits, No single plots allowed.

No polished marble headstones, Or grey Valentia slate,

To trace their lives or kinship, No name, no place, no date.

A simple sandstone marker, Recovered from the spoil, The only indication They walked this mortal coil.

Their lives were once filled like ours, With toil, and love and play, But ended in the Workhouse Or on the roadside way.

Starvation their companion, Deprived of home and fold, Reduced to abject penury And misery untold.

Their hearts and spirits broken, From hunger and disease, They asked for death to take them, Their last hope of release.

And death made no distinction

Between the young and the aged, But took them in their thousands, Its hunger unassuaged.

They lie now long forgotten

Beneath this hillside clay, But in our Irish psyche

The scouge still lives today

Five Newly Appointed Kerry Mentors Are Looking For Local Communites To Get Involved In The Energy Transition.

The Dingle Hub has recently taken on the role of providing mentors to support communities in Kerry who are looking to set up Sustainable Energy Communities (SECs) and become more energy efficient. The Sustainable Energy Community network is an initiative of the Sustainable Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

The newly appointed mentors are Deirdre de Bhailís, Catríona Fallon, Martin Bealin, Dinny Galvin and Ann Ní Chíobháin, all of whom have been involved with the Dingle Hub for a number of years. Dingle Hub has garnered extensive experience in this area over the past seven years and is eager to share this knowledge with other communities. The mentors are looking to identify new groups and communities interested in becoming an SEC. An SEC is a local voluntary group with aims to improve energy efficiency in their area. This is done by organising workshops, creating a network of likeminded people and sharing knowledge. The model of an SEC is to “Learn, Plan, Do”.

The SEC structure provides an excellent framework for communities to get started in becoming more energy resilient at a time when climate change is a concern for many. SECs are formed by a wide variety of groups, including Tidy Towns groups, housing estates, Community Development Groups, and GAA clubs, as well as ad hoc groups that form just for the purposes of creating an SEC. Occasionally SECs form around a particular sector, such as the dairy farmers of West Kerry in the WKDF SEC, or the tourism and hospitality sector in Corca Dhuibhne.

The SEC mentor role is to support a group in creating a vision of a more energy sustainable community. They guide groups on how to set up an SEC following the ‘Learn, Plan, Do’ method and identify roles that individual committee members might take on. Some remain at the ‘Learn’ stage, building up knowledge and expertise on renewable energy and energy efficiency that might benefit their communities.

For others, the SEC journey might include applying for Energy Master Plan (EMP) funding and the mentors will support groups as they identify a suitable energy consultant. An EMP gives a detailed snapshot of the energy baseline for a community and a roadmap on how to improve. Those who undertake EMPs can use the plans to source funding for projects such as retrofitting community centres and unlock funding opportunities. Examples of established SECs in Kerry who are doing great work are Kerry Sustainable Energy Co-op run by KSEC, Valentia Island Co-op SEC and Dingle Peninsula SEC who have done their EMP’s. Both the West Kerry Dairy Farmers SEC and Corca Dhuibhne Tourism and Hospitality SEC have done successful Solar Meitheals for their communities. Comharchumann Dhún Chaoin Teoranta SEC are due to start their EMP this year.

Recent groups that have established are Shannon Hub SEC, the North Kerry Environmental Group SEC, and the Kenmare SEC. For any groups eager to know more, the mentors are happy to arrange visits and/or online video calls to explain in more detail the benefits of SEC membership. All the new mentors have area of expertise that can help your community, Martin Bealin who has experience in the hospitality sector, Dinny

Galvin and Catríona with the Agri sector, Ann Ní Chíobháin in tourism and Deirdre de Bhailís in energy systems and technology.

Any communities looking to get in touch please contact ann@dinglehub.com, catriona@dinglehub.com, martin@dinglehub.com, dinny@ dinglehub.com

The new mentors will host an online info session on Thursday 5th June 7.30pm for any communities who want to learn more about SEC. Everyone welcome to join: Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82464659 387?pwd=bZnqGt6Dh8MyS3vZsnRuJzwtb5Oa0L.1

Annascaul Badminton: A Remarkable Season

Last week saw the end of a remarkable season for Annascaul Juvenile Badminton Club. This has been one of the most successful years that the club has seen in many years. The club was established in 2009 by SNA Mary Falvey who ran the club for the past 16 years. Together Mary and Billy Lacey from Tralee, coach over 60 primary and secondary school kids twice a week. In February the winning streak began. The Annascaul Camp Inch Lispole Community Games boys under 15 team came second in Kerry, they were represented by Dorian Browne, Dara O’Leary, Cathal Kennedy, Tomás O’Currain and Lorcán Clancy.

On the 6th of February, representing Scoil Bhreac Cluain Annascaul they kids had a clean sweep when the boys and girls A team and the boys and girls B team won the Kerry Primary School competition. The schools A teams went on from there to compete in the Munster schools finals. The girls team progressed to the

All Ireland Primary Schools Badminton finals in Baldoyle Badminton Centre in Dublin on 5th March. There were 16 teams there on the day and the girls fought their way to the final. Team members Muireann Curran, Katie Greaney, Aoibhín Lyne, Rachel O’Leary and Laoise Clancy won a silver All-Ireland badminton medal on the day, losing out the Ennis National School in the final. The matches were streamed live and there wasn’t much work done in school that day!

In Kerry championship badminton there has also been huge success. In February Aoibhin Lyne and Rachel O’Leary came second in under 12 doubles and Liwia Polanczyk and her partner from Tralee Roisin Sheehy also came second in the under 14 competition. On the same day Sean O’Currain and Conor Knightly won gold in the under 10 competition and Rioghan O’Sullivan and lorcán Clancy won silver in the

under 12s. In March Aoibhín and Aodán went on the win gold in the under 12 mixed doubles and Conor with his partner from Miltown also won gold in the under 10 competition. The championship season ended with the singles competition on 5th April. Once again Aoibhín and Aodán came away with medals. Aoibhín winning gold and Aodán settling for silver after an epic 3 set final.

Massive credit has to be given to both Mary and Billy who give so much of their time and energy to the kids and have been doing so for years. Not only for their coaching every week but also for the time Mary puts in to the administration and running of the club and the county competitions. Mary has installed a culture of badminton in the parish. Many of the children in the club also represented Kerry at county level badminton. Maybe we’ll have an Olympian yet!

The Cable That Changed the World Inspires New Drama at Siamsa Tíre

Where History and Heart Collide

17–20 July 2025 | 8:00 PM Nightly

Tickets: €29 / €27.50 (Concession)

Siamsa Tíre is proud to announce a new co-production, The Cable, a powerful new drama that interweaves personal story and historical moment. Directed by the internationally acclaimed Aidan Dooley, creator of Tom Crean: Antarctic Explorer, this evocative one man show is written and performed by Mike Kelly. It will run nightly from 17th to 20th July at 8:00 PM at the Siamsa Tíre Theatre and Arts Centre located in the heart of Tralee town.

Set against the backdrop of the monumental laying of the Transatlantic Cable on Valentia Island in 1866 — known as the “Eighth Wonder of the World” — The Cable explores how a family’s emotional struggles mirror a world on the brink of a communications revolution.

“The cable that changed the world — as one family waits for a single word.” The Cable is a poignant exploration of loss, hope, and the universal longing for connection. Blending the compelling visual storytelling shaped by Mike Kelly with haunting original music by Dave McGilton, evocative lighting design by John Hurley, and the creative direction of Aidan Dooley, The Cable captures the intersection of technological achievement and human longing.

Audiences can expect a theatrical experience that stirs the soul and ignites the imagination — a compelling narrative of personal and historical transformation set against one of Ireland’s most dramatic landscapes – a story that deeply resonates.

“This production is about more than a piece of history,” says writerperformer Mike Kelly. “It’s about the way we reach for each other across distances, how technology transforms us, and the enduring ties of family and love.”

Director Aidan Dooley added: “Returning to Siamsa Tíre with a story rooted in Kerry's soil and soul is incredibly meaningful. The Transatlantic Cable is a symbol of global connection, and this play brings that down to a deeply personal level — showing how progress and pain often walk hand in hand.”

The Transatlantic Cable, which ran from Valentia Island, Co. Kerry, to Heart’s Content, Newfoundland, spanned over 3,000 kilometres beneath the Atlantic Ocean and revolutionised global communication by reducing message transmission across continents from weeks to mere minutes. As the world changed forever, so too did the lives of those at its edges — a truth brought vividly to life in this stirring production.

CEO of Siamsa Tíre, Angela Ryan Whyte, emphasised the importance of the show: “We are proud to present a work so deeply rooted in Kerry’s heritage — yet so resonant with today’s world. The Cable speaks to the miracle and the paradox of connection: how a technological leap in the 1800s brought people closer, while today, despite constant digital contact, we often feel more emotionally distant. It’s a universal story that speaks to everyone told through a local lens — beautifully crafted, musically rich, and emotionally powerful.”

Tickets (€29 / €27.50) are available now at www.siamsatire.com or by calling the Box Office at 066 7123055. Early booking is strongly recommended.

Solar..panels or tubes, what's the difference? Well they both provide hot water when heated by the sun’s energy, thus saving you energy,

A solar system will save up to 70% of your annual hot water bill. When ficient than panels, but realistically the difference is small, especially

There is another "solar system" known in the trade as "Thermodynamic" this is a solar panel that works in the dark. Yes with no sunshine,

Well the answer is simple really, it's not a solar panel it's a heat pump. The way it works is a panel is fitted to your roof which is connected to a unit and cylinder in your hot press. This is a compressor similar to what's found in a fridge, this unit pumps a refrigerant gas into the panel where it heats due to the fact that the gas has a very low boiling point of about -25 Celsius so this hot gas comes back into the unit, where the gas is compressed to make it hotter, the heat is then transferred to create heat. However, this unit is dependant on electricity to operate so while saving money on heating hot water it does so at

Take for example a typical family home with 3 to 5 occupants, costs on average about €1,500 to €2,000 per year to heat, of which about a 1/4 to 1/3 of this is hot water, so a typical hot water bill for a family of

New Film On History Of Milltown Released Online

Hundreds enjoy screenings of unique documentary on local landscape

A new film which showcases the spectacular and unique history and heritage of the Milltown area has been made available online. It follows two recent sell-out screenings of ‘Milltown: The Story of a Kerry Landscape’ at the local community hall which were attended by 300 people.

An initiative of the Milltown History and Heritage Society, the spectacular film showcases how the archaeology, heritage and landscape of the locality have changed over thousands of years. It begins with the story of the 6,000-year-old portal tomb at Killaclohane and takes the story of the development of Milltown right up to the present day.

Due to demand, and to ensure that the film can be seen by a wide audience, the documentary, which was filmed and directed by Niall Foley, was published on the website of the Milltown History and Heritage Society on Thursday, 15 May.

“There has been such an incredible response to the in-person screenings

of the film as well as demand from Milltown natives across the world to see it, so we want to share it with a wide audience,” said Owen O’Shea of the Milltown History and Heritage Society.

The Society has a donations link on its website, milltownhistoryheritage. ie and has ambitions plans to preserve local heritage sites, collect oral histories and promote the historic landscape of Milltown. “We have some exciting plans for the coming months, so we are appealing to patrons to support our work with a donation,” said Owen.

“We have such a special and unique history and heritage in the area. Key locations and sites like the 13th century Augustinian abbey at Killagha, the Mass Rock where Fr Thaddeus Moriarty was arrested in 1653, and Kilcoleman Abbey which was the home of the Godfrey family for hundreds of years, feature prominently in the film as well as the many social, cultural, economic, and political developments which made Milltown what it is today,” he said.

The script for ‘Milltown: The Story of a Kerry Landscape’ was researched and written by Dr John Knightly and Dr Owen O’Shea and the project coordinator was Stewart Stephens of the Milltown Community and Chamber Alliance. The film was funded by the LEADER programme and Kerry County Council.

Céim Eile Chun Cinn

Mícheál Ó hUanacháin

An uair deireanach a bhreathnaíos ar thábla na Céad Roinne, roimh chluichí na seachtaine seo caite, bhí na Ciarraígh ag bun i dteannta trí fhoireann eile. Tar éis comhscór mí-ábharach na hAoine le Loch Garman, tá siad pointe amháin chun tosaigh ar bhun an tábla, arís i dteannta foirne eile, péire an uair seo.

Meabhrú arís é sin dúinn, dá mba ghá sin, nach ar thorthaí aon fhoireann amháin a bhraitheann a stádas, ach ar thorthaí na bhfoirne eile thart timpeall orthu chomh maith. Agus tar éis an tsaoil níl a leath an tséasúir imeartha go fóill againn – ní fiú bheith imníoch ag an bpointe seo. B’é an cluiche baile in aghaidh Treaty an chéad cheann ó ceapadh Colin Healy ina bhainisteoir, agus is ró-dhócha go mba thógáil mór croí dó é gur éirigh leo na pointí a bhreith ó mhuintir Luimnigh.

Cúl tar éis beagán le cois ceathrú uaire a thug an bua dóibh, Chris McQueen á stiúrú isteach san eangach ó chic coirnéil a thóg Oran Crowe go snasta. Ach b’éigean do Tim-Oliver Hiemer bheith ar bharr a chumais chun na cuairteoirí a choinneáil ó dhoras don chuid eile den imirt – san áireamh naoi nóiméad d’am cúiteamh ghortaithe ag an deireadh.

An tseachtain dar gcionn b’iad Loch Garman a bhí chucu sa bhaile, agus ar feadh an chuid is mó den oíche bhí an chosúlacht air go mbeadh toradh mar an gcéanna ag leaids Thrá Lí.

Le linn an tséasúir reatha, is minice ná i mblianta eile cluichí baile as a chéile ag foirne, agus cluichí as baile chomh maith, rud ná réitíonn ró-mhaith i gcónaí le lucht riartha na gclubanna. Ach caitear cur suas leis, is dócha. Bhí Healy i bhfeighil an imeartha an uair seo, agus ainneoin nár aontaigh an réiteoir go raibh cúl maith bainte ag Kevin Williams beagán le cois deich nóiméad isteach san imirt, fuair lucht na Ríochta céad chúl an tráthnóna leath-bhealach sa chéad leath, Niall Brookwell á sheoladh isteach, rud a d’fhág

na cuairteoirí ag troid go tréan ag iarraidh an comhscór a bhaint amach. Ar éigin ceathrú uair a chloig a bhí fágtha den nócha nóiméad nuair a d’éirigh le Loch Garman trí sheans an liathróid a chur thairis Hiemer, tar éis dósan buile láidir ó Conor Levingston a chur uaidh. Tháinig Mikie Rowe isteach ina dhiaidh agus sheol an liathróid os cionn an cúl báire.

Chuaigh Ronan Teahan agus McQueen an-ghar do chúl an bhua sa tréimhse deireanach ach bhí sé fánach acu.

Is fearr de thorthaí atá á mbaint amach ag na Ciarraígh i mbliana, agus taithí á chnuasach ag an bhfoireann de réir a chéile. Beidh an lucht leanúna ag súil leis an dul chun cinn san a threisiú de réir mar a théann an séasúr ar aghaid – agus cé thógfadh orthu é!

Míle Buíochas

Ba mhaith le Tigh na Leanaí agus Naíonra Ceann Trá ár mbuíochas a ghabháil leis na gnólachtaí áitiúla ar fad a thug na duaiseanna iontacha don Bingo, do Vincent Manning agus Dingle Heartsafe as an comhairle. Ba mhaith linn leis ár mbuíochas a thaispeáint do gach duine a tháinig amach chun tacú lenár mBingo oíche an 6 Aibreán nó le síntiús. Mar fhocal scoir, scairt speisialta ar Aoife Ashe, Katie O'Connor agus Saoirse Brosnan as a gcuid oibre crua agus a dtiomantas ar fad, tá ár gcroíthe lán buíoch. Is le flaithiúlacht gach duine agus na comharsana a léim isteach chun obair dheonach a dhéanamh ar an tráthnóna a bhíomar in ann ár sprioc a bhaint amach! Tá dífhibrileoir againn anois atá crochta go bródúil ar ár bhfoirgneamh pobail (V92H4CA) taobh thiar de Halla Ceann Trá don phobal. Is deis iontach é seo freisin buíochas a ghabháil le Coiste Forbartha Fionntra as a dtacaíocht leanúnach don dá sheirbhís cúram leanaí. Le meas,

Vanessa Duffy agus Teresa O'Connor

Tigh na Leanaí and Naíonra Ceann Trá would like to thank all of the local businesses that supported our Bingo with the most amazing prizes, Vincent Manning and Dingle Heartsafe for their guidance. We would also like to show our gratitude to everyone that came out to support our Bingo either on the night of 6 April or with a donation. Finally, a special shoutout to Aoife Ashe, Katie O'Connor and Saoirse Brosnan for all of their hard work and dedication. Our hearts are full of gratitude. It is with everyone's generosity parents from our centres and neighbours that jumped in to volunteer on the evening that we were able to meet our goal! We now have a defibrillator proudly hanging on our community building (V92H4CA) behind Halla Ceann Trá for the community. This is also a great opportunity to thank Coiste Forbartha Fionntra for their continued support to both childcare services.

Sincerely,

Ní mar a chéíle aon dá bhliain do Físín, iontráileacha agus smaointe nua, agus ar deireadh buaiteoir a thugann faoi scannánaíocht na Gaeilge le dóchas agus le fuinneamh. Sin é díreach mar atá ag Tania Notaro, a bhuaigh lena script, Aingil Francach – agus ár gcomhghairdeas léi.

Tagann ár n-iarrthóirí ó gach aon chearn den tír, agus níl aon rogha againn i leith canúna cé gurb í canúínt na Mumhan ár gcanúint féin! Tógadh Tania i dTamhlacht, agus is beag ceangal a bhí aici leis na ranganna Gaeilge agus í ar scoil. D’oscail comórtas Físín féidireachtaí nua di chun ceangal a dhéanamh leis an teanga. Dúirt sí, nuair a fiafraíodh dí “Cén fáth Gaeilge?” go raibh aisling I gcónaí aici scannán a scríobh sa. Ghaeilge.

“Bíonn scannáin Ghaeilge chomh minic sin lonnaithe I dtimpeallachtaí tuaithe, iad go hálainn, ach I bhfad ón saol go bhfuil cur amach agamsa air.Theastaigh uaim an teanga a thabhairt isteach I dtimpeallacht láidir gnóthach cathrach, an saghas go bhfuil taithí agam air. A thaispeáint nach leis an aimsir chaite ná leis an tuath amháin a bhaineann an teanga, go bhfuil sí beo, agus go bhfuil feidhm léi ins gach aon áit. Sa scannán seo, mar gheall ar ghrá agus ar fhulang, tugann an Ghaeilge mothálacht agus liriciúlacht isteach sa scannán ná féadfadh aon teanga eile a chur in iúl ins an slí chéanna.”

Chuir Tania iarratas isteach cheana ar Físín 2021, agus is beag smacht a bhí aici ar an teanga labhartha ag an am. D’fhoghlaim sí réamhrá álainn spreagúil, ach d’iarr sí ar chainteoir líofa pitseáil thar a ceann. Cé nár bhuaigh sí, thaitin a smaoineamh go mór linn, agus samhlaigh chomh sásta is a bhíomar í a chloisint I mbliana ag cur a scannáin I láthair, go pearsanta agus go líofa.

Aon aidhm amháin atá ag Físín – déanamh gearrscannán Gaeilge a chothú. Faighimid misneach ó an dul chun cinn atá déanta ag ár mbuaiteoirí I gcaitheamh na mblianta, agus ó na teistiméireachtaí moltacha a thugann iarrthóirí dúinn. I mbliana, is í Tania ár rogha chun Físín a chur chun cinn, agus táimid ag súil le bheith ag obair léi I gcaitheamh na bliana.

Every year is so different from the previous for Físín, new entries and fresh ideas, culminating in a winner, embracing Irish and short film-making with enthusiasm. This year’s winner Tania Notaro’s was exactly that, with her script titled Aingil Francach - Rat Angels, our congratulations to her.

Our entrants come from all over Ireland and we have no preference of dialect whilst we of course love Munster Irish! Tania grew up in Tallaght with little to no engagement with the Irish classes in school. The Físín competition has opened up possibilities for her to connect with the language. She said when considering - Why Irish? “I’ve always dreamed of writing a film in the Irish language. So often, Irish-language films are rooted in rural settings, beautiful, but far from the world I know. I wanted to take the language and place it into the raw, vibrant, urban landscape I grew up in. To show that Irish doesn’t just belong to the past or the countryside, it’s alive and it belongs everywhere. In a film about survival and love, Irish brings a lyrical soulfulness that no other language could capture in quite the same way.”

Tania entered before in 2021and had very little spoken Irish. She learnt a very inspiring introduction to her pitch but handed over to a fluent speaker to conduct the pitch on her behalf. Whilst she did not win we were very impressed by her effort. Imagine how exciting it was to listen to her conduct her entire pitch herself in Irish this year.

Físín has a very simple aim - Our mission is simple, to foster the making of short films in Irish, our winners’ successes over the years and the testimonials from past entrants inspire our work. This year Tania is the embodiment of all that Físín is about and we look forward to working with her this year.

Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich: Ceolchoirm,

Seoladh Leabhar agus Céilí!

Beathaisnéis chumhachtach phearsanta í seo ina bhfuil cur síos ag Breanndán Ó Beaglaioch ar shaol préamhaithe i bhfiantas álainn Chorca Dhuibhne agus cothaithe ag saibhreas an traidisiúin i nGaeltacht Chiarraí. Tógadh i dteaghlach ceoil é, agus roinneann sé cuimhní cinn geala orainn ar óige ina raibh amhráin, ceol, rince agus béaloideas lárnach — agus mar a thug sé na seoda sin go stáitsí domhanda.

Le croí macánta cuireann Breanndan síos ar shaol caite aige le seinnt, eachtraíocht, agus le fód a sheasamh do theanga, dúchas agus cine.

Pobal agus cultúr Gaeltachta a mhúnlaigh Breanndán agus a chothaigh riamh ó shin é. Is in ómós do san an saothar seo.

Bígí linn ar an 14ú Meitheamh i Halla na Muirí chun seoladh leabhar Breanndán Ó Beaglaoicha a cheiliuradh!

In this intimate and powerful memoir, Breanndán Begley reflects on a life rooted in the wild beauty of Corca Dhuibhne and shaped by the rich traditions of the Kerry Gaeltacht. Born into a family of musicians, he shares vivid memories of a childhood steeped in song, music, dance and folklore — and of bringing that tradition to global stages.

With warmth and honesty, Breanndán recounts a lifetime of performance, adventure, and cultural activism in defence of language, land, and music. This is a celebration of tradition and the community that shaped and sustained him throughout his life.

Come join us for an evening of music and celebration at Halla na Muirí on the 14th of June!

Hanging Washing in the Rain

I thought I glimpsed a sunbeam

A bright break in the grey

I’m going to make a go of it

It’s optimism day

I’m just hanging in the garden

Singing in the rain

Pegging up my soaking socks

The sun will come again

I didn’t check the forecast

In my moment spurring mood

And if I can’t get any wetter

What harm can the rain do? - Artwork and words by Laurence Jones.

Marinated Courgettes, Hazelnuts and Ricotta

of thing you might throw together on a warm evening when you don’t want to spend much time at the stove. This is summer eating at its best: fresh, light, and full of flavour.

This light and summery dish, quick to prepare and full of bright, clean flavours, it’s ideal as a starter, side, or even a simple lunch with crusty bread. The courgettes are cooked lighty and marinated to soften and enhance their natural sweetness, then paired with creamy ricotta and toasted hazelnuts for a wonderful mix of textures. A drizzle of good olive oil and a squeeze of lemon brings everything together. It's a dish that feels effortless yet elegant – just the sort

Ingredients

1 small bunch mint, divided (half chopped and the remaining left whole)

1 small garlic clove, finely grated

2 tbsp. white wine vinegar

¾ tsp. sugar

½ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

freshly ground black pepper

extra virgin olive oil

1 lemon

200g fresh ricotta

2 courgettes, cut in half lengthwise then cut into smaller pieces about 3 inches long.

100g hazelnuts, toasted and crushed slightly

Method

Start by making the dressing. In a small bowl, combine the chopped mint, crushed garlic, vinegar, sugar, red pepper flakes, and olive oil.

Season generously with salt and pepper, then set aside to let the flavours develop. Next, prepare the ricotta mixture. Add the ricotta to a mixing bowl, then zest and juice the lemon directly into it. Drizzle in a little extra virgin olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and stir everything together until smooth and creamy. Set aside.

Place a pan over medium to high heat and add a little oil. Once hot, add the courgette slices, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Let them brown on one side before turning. After a few minutes, lower the heat and cook until tender. Once done, remove the courgettes from the pan and toss them gently in the dressing. Allow them to cool slightly as they absorb all the flavours.

To serve: spoon the whipped ricotta into a shallow bowl or plate and spread it out. Arrange the dressed courgettes over the top, then drizzle any remaining dressing over the dish. Finish with a sprinkle of fresh mint and a scattering of toasted hazelnuts for crunch.

Bain Taitneamh As!

It's All In The Mind

Patience

Safe to say, we have all experienced moments of impatience. We ‘re familiar with the feeling of being stuck in a long queue or caught behind a slow driver when we’re late for a meeting or finding ourselves having the same argument over and over again with the same person- often someone close to us like a partner, child, work colleague or sibling! Throughout the day we are constantly thwarted in our expectations! When people in our world do not cooperate with what we want, when situations don’t go according to plan, we feel our capacity to be in control is being sabotaged. We often react to this feeling of helplessness and frustration with impatience, which provokes tension, irritation and stress in the body.

According to one study, the average person in our culture spends eleven days a year waiting in line- add to that, time spent stuck in traffic getting to our ‘destination’, waiting for customer service, appointments etc, that's a lot of time spent waiting! How do we spend this time? Do we allow things to unravel in their own time and appreciate each moment as it unfolds ? Or are we more likely to be impatient?

Most of us want to get past suffering or discomfort and onto the ‘good part’. Potentially we could be expending a lot of time and energy racing to the finishing line where ultimately only death awaits us. Cultivating patience helps us to slow down and be more fully present to the only thing we can truly be sure of - the present moment.

So the second Attitude to cultivate when practicing mindfulness is patience. When we start noticing our thoughts and emotions we become aware that we are often more intent on becoming rather than being. In other words, we miss what's happening right now because we are so focused on what we want to happen next.

When something or someone gets in the way of our goals and desires we get impatient. And impatience causes a lot of wear and tear on the mind/ body. In therapeutic terms it increases the allostatic load and can lead to negative health consequences. Pay attention to what’s happening in the body and in the mind the next time you feel impatient. Are you hijacked by problematic reactions like fight, flight, freeze or appease? Is there tightness in the chest, muscles contracted, breathing irregular? How often do you experience this? Over time, it has a cumulative effect and takes its toll.

There is another way. With time and practice, being mindful and making space for patience helps us to tolerate inconvenience and discomfort, rise to challenges, delay gratification, develop our capacity to wait! We can learn to live in the in- between!

Of course there is a time to be impatient - it spurs us to action ; to right wrongs, respond to injustice and improve conditions for ourselves and the world around us. But it is wise to cultivate patience when there is nothing we can do to change our circumstances- losing the head with airport personnel will do nothing to make a delayed flight arrive on time. Interrupting will not help us to understand someone else’ s point

of view. Patience is not the denial of unpleasantness or the absence of strong emotions. Even though we don’t like or want stress, being patient allows us to process it with equanimity and calm rather than become overwhelmed by it.

The unmet needs and unresolved fears that drive impatience are part of the human condition and are better met by slowing down and exploring the fullness of what's happening now. Mindfulness and a patient attitude can help in two ways :

1. Being aware of our thoughts and emotions empowers us to step out of rumination and habitual thought processes. We can then introduce clarity and spaciousness- an ability to see the bigger picture :what can I learn from this?: what really matters? : is this reaction helpful?

2. Being aware of the body allows us to ease the tension we are holding onto, let go of any tightness or resistence and breathe more easily. The two most powerful warriors are patience and time’ - Leo Tolstoy Orla Smyth - certified teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Relief (MBSR) and Dot B. -mindful awareness for children / orlasmyth67@gmail.com

Kincora Britain's Shame le Chris Moore

foilsithe ag

Merrion Press

`For over four decades the story of the extraordi nary evil that occurred at the Kincora Boys' Home in East Belfast in the 1970s and the shocking at tempts by MI5 to cover it up have haunted our political and social terrain. Award-winning former BBC journalist Chris Moore has been working on the story since it first emerged in 1980, and has uncovered a horrific catalogue of failed opportunities to put an end to the sadistic activities of the men who were running the home, in particular those of prominent Orangeman and MI5 source William McGrath. What has emerged over the course of Moore's investigation, in which he has gained exclusive access to witnesses, secret documents and whistleblowers within the British intelligence services, is that not only were the boys in Kincora systematically sexually abused, but that some were forced into a countrywide paedophile ring, whose members included Lord Louis Mountbatten. Moore also exposes MI5's attempts to cover up what actually happened and that the organisation knew as early as the 1970s that the boys in Kincora were being abused. Kincora is a shocking exposé of how the British state failed to protect some of its most vulnerable members.' - Merrion Press

Breandán Mac Gearailt

Tá an-aimsir gréine atá fachta againn ar aon dul le scata don bFrainnc agus níos fearr ná tiortha i lár agus thuaisceart na hEorpa. An mbeam sara fada ag iarraí ar an sagart Aifreann báistí a bheith againn? Is beag in aon chor fásta. Chuirfeadh a thuilleadh don scóladh tinneas ar ár bpócaí. Tá cúrsaí caide agus iomána ag díriú go triopallach ar na craobh chluichí a bheidh againn i lár an tSamhraidh. Is trua gur chaill foireann caide fé 20 bl. Chiarraí sa leath chraobh. Bhí buachaillí an tuaisceart ró láidir scafánta dúinn. Dhein Tomás Ó Sé a bhí ag oiliúint na mbuachaillí seo againne a chúram go maith.

Sa chaid sinsir ní raibh aon dua mór acu in aghaidh Ros Comán. Fuair Dáithí Ó Clúmháin 1-3, Seán Ó Sé 0-7 , Pól Geaney 1-1 agus a chol ceathrar 0-1. Fuair Ó Beaglaoi 0-1 agus Diarmuid Ó Conchúir 0-2 agus an gradam Laoch an Chluiche. Bhí sé go diail.

Chonac go bhfuil iománaithe Phort Láirge ag feabhsú ach nílid fós mar a bhí roinnt blianta ó shoin. Tá Tiobrad Árann go maith agus an Clár ach níl aon tseans ag aon fhoireann dtí Luimneach. Chonaicís cad a dheineadar le Corcaigh an Domhnach seo caite. Bhí na réalta go léir ag glioscarnaigh. Ba ar Kyle Hayes a bronnadh Laoch an Chluiche nó an t-imreóir ab fhearr. Ní fada anois go mbeidh fhios againn cé hiad foirne caide agus iomána na cheithre cuigí.

Ní feicim aon foireann a bhuafadh ar Luimneach agus má leanann rath i mbéal an dorais againn beam sa chlibirt sa deire. Tá Bleá Cliath ag croitheadh a sciatháin arís óir bhuadar ar Ghaillimh le poinnte. Ní dóigh liom gur as Connacht a thiocfaidh buaiteoir na bliana seo, Gaillimh ná Maigh Eo, ná as Cúige Laighean, ach caol-sheans as Cúige Mumhan. Uladh, beagnach cinnte. Bainfeam sásamh as na cluichí atá fós ar na bioráin. Chím go minic go mbíonn eachtra éigin de chuid an rugar nó an sacar ar na meáin le linn ár gcluichí a bheith á n-imirt. N’fheadar an mbíonn dada ar chúrsaí caide agus iomána ar nuachtáin Sasana i Sasana. An bhfuil aon náire orainn!

An bhfuil aon náire ar na fóirne a scaipeann go tuathalach sara mbíonn Amhrán na bhFiann críochnaithe, tá fóirne a deineann a gcúram i gceart ach bíonn a thuilleadh acu ag scaipeadh sara mbíonn Amhrán na bhFiann thart.

Feirm

Tá luach na n-uan-caoire titithe €15 an ceann, ach tá na beithigh agus ba mar a bhí. Go maith.

An tOireachtas

Beidh an t-Oireachtas á reachtáil i mBéal Feirste i mbliana. Beidh leisce ar daoine dul ó thuaidh ach beidh fonn ar scata eile. Tagann an Mhuintir Thuaidh aduaidh, canathaobh ná raighimísne ó Thuaidh?

Bás

Beannacht Dé lena anam.

Fuair Mícheál Ó Conchúir ó Dhoire Ghormáin agus Londain, bás le déanaí.

Méala mór a bhás dá chéile Máire, a bheirt iníon, Geraldine agus Caroline dearthair Paddy, deirfiúracha Bridie agus Joan, gaolta agus cáirde.

In Iothlainn Dé a anam macánta.

Fuair Seán Dan Beag Ó Gairbhia ó Baile an Liaigh, bás le déanaí. Méala mór a bhás dá chéile Madge, dá mhac Dónal, iníonacha Colleen, Bunty, Trish, Fiona agus Kathleen, deirféaracha Helen agus Treasa, garchlann, gaolta agus cáirde. Bhí a thuistí Dónal agus Neilí, básaithe roimhis.
