The Billy Riordan Memorial Trust- Volunteers Needed The Billy Riordan Memorial Trust is an Irish registered and Dingle based charity. We have been working in Malawi C/ Africa for more than 22 years. Our medical clinic opened in 2004 providing primary health care to the remote community at Cape Maclear, Malawi. The clinic treats 22,500 patients annually. We are currently constructing an operating theatre as part of our new maternity unit. The new building has been roofed, and first-fix electrical work is about to begin. We are urgently seeking volunteers who are interested in travelling to Malawi to help complete this important project. Volunteers with building experience, project management skills or stores-keeping experience would be especially welcome. Volunteers would directly support the completion of the maternity unit and operating theatre, This opportunity offers a chance to make a meaningful contribution to healthcare in a community in Africa while working in a resource poor environment and at the same time gaining hands-on experience and learning from local people. A placement requires a minimum commitment of 12 working weeks. Volunteers are asked to fund their flights and living expenses but accommodation is provided free of charge. Leftovers Makeovers: Last night’s dinner can be today’s lunch with a
little creativity. Got some leftover chicken? Throw it in a salad or a wrap. Leftover pasta? Toss it with some veggies, cheese cubes and olive oil for a quick pasta salad.

Always compare products using the 100g measurement, rather than serving size, for a more accurate evaluation. For healthy alternatives, that an be just as quick and convenient, here are some quick, nutritious breakfast ideas that won’t have you tearing your hair out:
Overnight Oats: This is a magic trick for busy mornings. The night before, mix oats with milk (or a dairy alternative) and toss in some fruit or a handful of nuts. By morning, it’s a creamy, delicious breakfast ready to go. Let the kids choose their toppings the night before so they feel in control. Smoothies: These are your secret weapon for sneaking in all sorts of goodness. Throw in a banana, a handful of spinach (trust me, they won’t even taste it), some natural yogurt, and a dash of honey. Boom—breakfast in a cup. Add a scoop of protein powder, chopped nuts/seeds for older kids who need a bit more fuel.
Whole-Grain Toast with Nut Butter: Simple, fast, and satisfying.
Add sliced bananas, sliced pear or apples on top for extra fibre and vitamins. For kids with nut allergies, swap the nut butter for a seed butter like sunflower.

Once Upon a Time in the Southwest Ted Creedon Put Gun to Driver’s Head -South London Observer 19 January 1881 The Mail car from Limerick to Tralee was attacked at about four o’clock on the morning of January 12, by four men near Askeaton. The men were armed and one of them held a revolver to the driver’s head. The harness was then cut, the horses turned loose, and the mail bags were rifled. Fortunately, the driver was not hurt and the men departed. However, he was unable to proceed with the mail-car, so he walked to Kildimo and reported the outrage. It is understood that the robbers were searching for some official documents that were believed to be in the mail bags. By the time the mail car was repaired, and the horses secured, the mail arrived in Tralee very late in the day. (Did the robbers have horses? Which direction did they take after the robbery?).
Outrage at Caherciveen -Belfast Newsletter 06 April 1869 A shot was fired at a farmer named Kelly who, it appears, holds the position of land bailiff to the Board of Trinity college, Dublin, who own considerable property in the Caherciveen area. It appears that Kelly was returning home from Caherciveen when he was fired at. Suspicion for the shooting fell on a man named Connell, who was recently evicted by Mr. Leahy, as the person who committed the outrage. The police visited Connell’s home and are satisfied that neither he nor his sons were involved in the shooting. An old horse pistol was found at the scene of the outrage by the police. The outrage is believed to have been carried out with no other intent than to frighten Kelly. The shot fired at him appears to have been a blank one. (Outrage? – what outrage? Where did Mr. Leahy fit in this story? A horse pistol was a single shot muzzleloading gun. It was too bulky for a hip holster and was carried in a special saddle holster. It was popular with the military).
The Mystery of the Monarch of the Seas -Cork Constitution 07 July 1866 The Tralee Chronicle reports that the body of a woman, minus arms and legs, was washed ashore this week on Ballyheigue Strand. Part of a ship’s mainyard was picked up yesterday by a canoe in Limerick Harbour and It appears to have belonged to a large ship, up to 2000 tons burthen, according to the Coast Guard. An abandoned boat was found near the Blaskets. It is surmised that these findings may be the remains of the emigrant ship Monarch of the Seas which sailed from Liverpool for New York on 8 Corca Dhuibhne Beo
March 19th last. The ship has been missing for months and presumed lost with all 700 souls on board. There is some suggestion that she may have struck rocks in the vicinity of the Blaskets and sank in deep water. A report was circulating around Dingle yesterday that bodies were seen floating in the sea off Dunmore Head. The remains of the woman found in Ballyheigue Strand were buried today. (The Monarch was built in 1854 in New York by Roosevelt and Joyce for a British shipping company. She was regarded as one of the finest, without exception, emigrant ships on the Atlantic. Her Master, Captain Robert Kirkaldy was highly regarded. So, what happened to her? Unlikely she sank off the Blaskets in March because of wreckage and part of a body turning up in July. There are numerous possibilities. What if the ship had struck an iceberg off Newfoundland? Some of the 700 plus people on board may have had time to get into lifeboats before she sank. However, their survival depended on being rescued by passing vessels – that didn’t happen. They would have had to endure the cold of the north Atlantic in March and April and, possibly, storms. Their greatest need would have been food and water. The woman with no legs or arms, washed up on Ballyheigue Strand, may have been a victim of food shortage. Such desperation was not unknown in maritime history. Some of the named 674 emigrants on board may well have been from West Kerry…Moran, Garvey, Murphy, Fitzgerald, Devane, McKenna, Connor, Farrell, Crean, Flaherty, Courtney, Walsh).
Precautions in Tralee -Cork Examiner 04 January 1868 The authorities in Tralee are becoming more vigilant every day. Their movements are such as would lead a person to think they are in
expectation of some disturbance. Last night, patrols of the Kerry Militia staff, fully armed, paraded the town while police patrols were also on the streets. Very few young men were to be seen on the streets last night, a matter which has been widely commented on. About 15 policemen left Tralee by the three o’clock train yesterday. Their destination is unknown. A young man was brought in by the train on what we understand is a charge of being involved with the Fenians. He was lodged in jail. There are reports that a large number of police moved up to Mallow last night. (This was a year after the failed Fenian Rising and the authorities may have been expecting a possible follow up).
Accident on the Dingle Railway -Kerry Evening Post 18 February 1904 As the 7.35 train from Dingle to Tralee on Wednesday morning got to Ballinsteenig, four miles on the Tralee side of Dingle, it met with a common cart in which were two men named O’Donnell and Baker, who were going towards Dingle. The horse became frightened, jumped on a retaining wall, two feet high, and was struck by the train’s engine. The horse tumbled over backwards and broke the cart. O’Donnell managed to jump clear, but Baker was knocked out and rendered unconscious. He was immediately lifted into one of the carriages and the train returned to Dingle. Surprisingly, on arrival at the station, he was able to walk from the train to the ambulance. The horse suffered a broken back and was put down. (Surprised to read that Dingle had an ambulance in 1904).

Dingle Notes Richie Williams NEW DEMENTIA ACTIVITY GROUP. Sonas Le Chéile is the name of a new Dementia Activity Group for Corca Dhuibhne. The first monthly get together is scheduled for Thursday September 17th in Benner's Hotel from 11am to 1pm. Sessions will include some social interaction, gentle activities, music, song, storytelling and sharing memories. Further information from Melissa at 087-2177932. CARING FOR KERRY CAMPAIGN. As part of their campaign to give practical advice so people can live safely and independently at home for as long as possible the HSE South West are organising a number of meetings throughout Kerry over the next few weeks. The open meeting for West Kerry is scheduled for Tuesday September 29th in the Sacred Heart University Building, John Street, Dingle starting at 8pm.The meetings are open to the public and prior booking is not required. DINGLE MARATHON. The Annual Dingle Full and Half Marathons are scheduled for Saturday September 5th starting from Strand Street at 9am. The Half Course takes athletes to Dún Chaoin and the Full Participants continue through Ballyferriter and Gallarus before returning to Dingle to complete the 26 mile challenge. Approximately 3,000 athletes from Ireland and many from overseas have registered their interest in taking part this year. Some road closures will be in place mainly for short periods on the route from 8.30am through to 3pm with diversions clearly signposted and road users are requested to cooperate with the stewards on the day. A number of local voluntary organisations who help along the route will benefit financially again this year. Many of the participants will also have collected funds for various charities of their choice as reward for their exertions in completing their chosen challenge. Good luck to everybody involved on September 5th. DINGLE REGATTA. With relatively calm weather and suitable sea conditions the Dingle Regatta successfully organised a total of 17 races ca-

tering for age groups from under 12s right up to Senior Ladies and Mens including Kerry and All Ireland Naomhog Championships. Visiting crews from Galway, Clare, Boston, Philadelphia and The Maharees joined the ever increasing number of Dingle crews to provide some excellent competition and skilful exhibitions of rowing which was appreciated by the hundreds of supporters who loudly applauded all the crews throughout the weekend. The organisers would like to thank all who participated, the sponsors of the competitions and especially the visiting teams for their continued support of this 130 year old Regatta. With such interest by so many young people Naomhóg Racing is a sport likely to be part of the West Kerry culture well into the foreseable future. GOLDEN GLOBE RACE. Dingle Business Chamber wish local sailor Pat Lawless every good luck and safe passage as he sets out in the 30,000 nautical mile Golden Globe Yacht Race from France on September 6th. Pat was unlucky in his attempt 4 years ago when equipment forced his retirement from the race but hopefully Lady Luck will be kinder to him this time round. Pat is hoping to raise funds for Parkinsons Ireland, a cause very close to his family, as reward for his efforts and donations would be appreciated via www.idonate/fundraiser/patlawless1,which has a €50000 target. A large crowd of supporters and local boats of all sizes conveyed Pat from Dingle pier to sea in early August as he parted our shores in preparation for the trip to the starting line in Les Sables d”Olonne West Coast of France.

MANX SHEARWATER ALERT! SOS Shearwater Corca Dhuibhne is appealing to everyone on the Dingle Peninsula these next few weeks to be on the lookout for stranded Manx Shearwater fledglings.
What are they? They are dove-sized, web-footed black and white seabirds that breed on the Blasket Islands. During the next few weeks this year’s fledglings are making their first big migration to the waters off Brazil and Uruguay where they will spend the winter months.
Why are they stranding in our towns and villages? They are attracted and disoriented by the strong electric lights with which we surround ourselves. Once they crash land on roads and in gardens they are vulnerable to predation by pets, starvation and being hit by traffic.
Five good reasons to get involved
What can you do if you find one? Please pick it up carefully and avoid catching by the wings by cupping your hands around it. Place it securely in a cardboard box. Do not give it any food or water and phone one of the volunteers listed below who will collect it and release it safely back to the wild. 1. Manx Shearwaters are long-lived birds. The oldest ringed and recovered bird was 52 years old. By picking up and helping one bird you might be helping dozens of generations of shearwaters yet to come! 2. The shearwaters’ parents have travelled all the way from South America to the safe breeding colony on the Blasket Islands in order to lay one single egg which they incubate for up to 55 days after which they feed the fledgling for a further 60-70 days. That’s a big effort for this protected, amber-listed little bird. It seems a small effort on our part to pick it up and release it again safely to give it one more chance of finding its way south. 3. Usually they are entirely uninjured and just need a little help to get airborne again. 4. We have very few opportunities to get up close and personal with some of our more elusive wildlife. Shearwater can generally only be observed far out to sea from a boat as they breed underground on our remoter islands and only come back to their breeding burrows at night. About 93% of the Irish population of this amazing seabird breed in County Kerry. This is a great chance for everyone to find out a little bit more about the great biodiversity here on the Dingle peninsula and to help in a small but very effective way to protect it. 5. We are hoping to ring some Shearwaters this year, thereby adding some valuable scientific data to the rescue scheme. Last but not least let’s consider switching off some unnecessary outside lights to prevent these birds from crash landing in the first place. Last year we collected and released more than 120+ birds around the peninsula – thanks to all the people around the peninsula who picked them up and gave us a call. Some people even carried an empty cardboard box in their cars just in case they came across one of them. Thank you!

Commemorative Walk For Aisling Joyce and Mary Lynch On 12th September 2026, a Commemorative Walk will be held in Dingle, to honour the memory of Aisling Joyce and Mary Lynch who died some five days apart in September 2025 in the Palliative Care Unit of Kerry Hospice Tralee. They were not only connected by this tragedy but also by the fact they each had a son in fourth class in Scoil Iognáid Rís. Both families have decided to remember each of their loved ones by hosting a walk in aid of the hospice, beginning at 3.30pm at the Dingle Marina, moving towards the New Hospital via The Tracks, using the new road passing the Old Hospital to Miltown roundabout and back to the Marina. All monies raised will be donated to the Kerry Hospice Foundation where both Mary and Aisling received such incredible care. Aisling Joyce, born on 22 October 1978 who peacefully passed away on 9 September 2025, was raised in Dingle, Co. Kerry, where she attended both primary and secondary school. She went on to pursue her calling in nursing, qualifying as a General Nurse before furthering her studies and becoming a Midwife. Throughout her career, Aisling worked in Dublin, Galway and Tralee, caring for others with great dedication and compassion. Above all, Aisling was a devoted mother to her three children, JJ, Sarah and Keely, and was a cherished daughter of Joe and Nora. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, colleagues and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary Lynch (nee O'Connor), born on the 14th July 1979 to Mike and Marian O'Connor, The Lane, Cloghane passed away peacefully on the 14th September 2025. Her tenacity through all the trials and tribulations of her illness was due to her unwavering faith and strength of character. Her passion for Kerry football was only outshone by her love of family and friends. She loved her 2 children, Pádraig and Éadaoin to the moon and back as she often told them. Sadly missed by all of us who had the pleasure of knowing her throughout her life.

The Eclipse in History Micheál Ó Coileáin The recent eclipse certainly caught the public imagination in Ireland and further afield. Eclipses remain spectacular and symbolic events, and they still come with their cortege of doom and gloom merchants. But nowadays, our understanding of the movements of the Sun, Earth and Moon mean that wonder at their celestial dance can replace the fear of our ancestors. In fact, we shouldn't be caught off-guard by an eclipse ever again. Scientists can predict eclipses with very high precision, getting the timing correct to less than a second! In the Irish tradition and history, eclipses span prehistoric megalithic art, medieval monastic chronicles, lunar folklore, and even the Irish language itself, where the word for an eclipse (an t-urú) doubles as the grammatical term for eclipsis. Irish medieval scribes meticulously recorded celestial events in texts like the Annals of Ulster and the Annals of Inisfallen. About 25% of all solar and lunar eclipses passing over Ireland during the early medieval period were written down. The famous total solar eclipse of May 1, 664 (“darkness on the Kalends of May at the ninth hour”) was recorded by Irish monks just as the devastating yellow plague (Buidhe Chonaill) swept through the island's monasteries, cementing a long-held association between deep eclipses and looming earthly trials. Irish scholars played a massive role in early medieval astronomy and the calculation of Easter. An Irish scholar made what is considered the earliest known written eclipse prediction in the Latin West in AD 754.
Across human history, eclipses have always been a source of inspiration for legends, myths and symbols. To explain eclipses, many ancient legends evoke a celestial monster which devours the Sun or Moon. It is a dragon in Indian, Indonesian and Chinese legends, a giant frog in Vietnam, a jaguar in Argentina, and a vampire in Siberia. Whatever form it takes, the celestial creature was to be respected and (usually) feared. One Chinese legend reports that the total solar eclipse in China on 22 October 2134 BC took everybody by surprise. Therefore, there was no time to prepare the archers and the drummers in order to fight and frighten the dragons which devour the Sun during the eclipse. In any civilisation, a total eclipse occurring without being announced would certainly bring chaos for a few minutes, and would remain a defining moment used later as an historical milestone. The Odyssey refers to a solar eclipse near Ithaca, which would correspond to 1178 BC. There is a reference to an eclipse in the Bible which could correspond to 15 June 736 BC. Babylonian astronomers have systematically noted solar and lunar eclipses from 700 BC to 50 years BC. Thales of Milet reports that a total solar eclipse (now dated in May 585 BC) crossed the battlefield during a war between the Lydians and the Medes. The fighting stopped, and peace was declared. Herodotus, Cicero and Pliny also refer to eclipses as time milestones. Plutarch gives very accurate observations of an eclipse on 20 March 71 AD. On 29 May 1453, a rising full moon was eclipsed over Constantinople, then under siege by the Turk army. It is reported that this created such a dip in morale that in a few days Constantinople was defeated, leading to the end of the Roman Empire of Orient after 1130 years.

Roast Chicken Thighs with Tomatoes, Garlic & Rosemary
Mark Murphy - Dingle Cookery School As we come towards the end of summer, tomatoes are at their best, full of sweetness and flavour. This is a simple dish that makes the most of them, pairing ripe tomatoes with chicken thighs, plenty of garlic and fresh rosemary. Everything cooks together in one roasting dish, with the juices from the chicken combining with the tomatoes, garlic and herbs to create a rich, delicious sauce. Bone-in chicken thighs work particularly well here as they stay juicy while the skin becomes beautifully crisp. It is exactly the kind of cooking I enjoy: uncomplicated, seasonal and full of flavour. Serve it with some buttery new potatoes, crusty bread to mop up the juices, or a simple green salad for an easy late-summer dinner. Serves 4
Ingredients 8 chicken thighs, preferably bone-in and skin-on 500–600g ripe tomatoes, roughly chopped, or cherry tomatoes halved 1 large red onion, cut into wedges 6 cloves garlic, lightly crushed 2–3 sprigs fresh rosemary 2 tbsp olive oil 100ml dry white wine or chicken stock 1 tbsp red wine or cider vinegar Salt and pepper Small handful fresh parsley or basil chopped, to garnish
Method Heat the oven to 180ºC Put the tomatoes, onion and garlic into a large roasting dish. Add the rosemary, olive oil, vinegar and a good seasoning of salt and pepper. Toss everything together. Season the chicken well and sit the thighs skin-side up on top of the tomatoes. The important bit is not to bury the skin in the vegetables — you want it exposed so it becomes properly golden and crisp. Pour the wine or stock around the chicken. Roast for 40–50 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the skin is crisp. About halfway through, spoon some of the tomato juices around the chicken, but again leave the skin alone. Remove from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes. Taste the tomato juices and adjust the seasoning and garnish with the herbs. Serve with some new potatoes. Bain Taitneamh As! Take a beautiful, sunny, late August Sunday, throw in an almighty crowd of all ages, add a children’s play area, two pubs, free grub, a good tide, a lifeboat, a helicopter, hawkers, people fishing off the harbour wall, a busy little beach, people leaping into the sea off the pier and, of course, a small fleet of canoes, currachs or naomhóga, plus their crews. That gives you a brief overall glimpse of the long-awaited and much anticipated last regatta of the West Kerry rowing season which has been revived after too long an absence.

How long was that absence? That depended on who you asked. One person said it was stopped before Covid, another said after Covid and a third said six years ago. Whatever the length of time, Brandon regatta was a great loss to the Dingle Peninsula, to the competitors and to visitors during those years. The end of the old Brandon Regatta was always felt as a kind of goodbye to the summer and ‘see you next year’. The traffic on Sunday was awesome and the like of it was never experienced in bygone days. In a field, near the entrance to the harbour, children were enjoying the pleasure of several bouncy castles and face painting, all at no charge. Pub owner Pádraig Murphy must have anticipated the throng and had set up a second pub, under awnings, nearby. Business was brisk. Further along, a man named Chad Byrne, from Castlemaine, was giving away free food. It’s true. His stall was named The Hungry Donkey, and he was handing out little cartons of delicious Kerry Spider Crab along with crab meat on bread. What was the catch? There wasn’t one. It was all part of a promotion of the Kerry Spider Crab organised by B.I.M. Naomhóg builder Eddie Hutch was watching the racing from a good vantage point. He will shortly be heading to the Blasket Island of Inish Vickillane, to carry out some repair works on the Haughey family home, following a hard winter.

Down on the little beach, children were amusing themselves with a form of entertainment that is as old as human involvement with beaches. They were carrying out construction work on sandcastles which were doomed for destruction on the next high tide or, most likely, sooner. One element of the pre-covid days at Brandon Regatta was gone and unlikely to ever return. As well as cheering on the rowing crews in the old days, additional cheering was heard from radios and cars when the Kerry team were challenging opponents at the All-Ireland semi-finals in Croke Park. The Fenit lifeboat renewed the tradition of visiting Brandon on regatta day. She is named after Robert Hywel Jones Williams, whose generous bequest allowed Fenit to purchase this fine vessel which has delivered invaluable service for the past 27 tears. Shortly after that, the Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 117, based at Shannon Airport, arrived on a courtesy visit. It made a wide sweeping turn over the area before pausing to show its ability to remain rock steady over the harbour. The winch crews of all our Coast Guard helicopters are trained paramedics. It was noticeable and disappointing to some elderly people at the event, that many of the regular visitors, to the old regattas, were not to be seen on Sunday. Perhaps they had a better view from a higher vantage point.

Time to talk about the regatta. There were ten races on the card, as they say, and the committee were extremely thankful to the sponsors who came up with over €4,000 which was divided between the teams, in different amounts, depending on crew sizes and ages. Sea conditions were good in the early stages; however, a strong northerly breeze developed in the afternoon which challenged some of the crews. Tony Kiernon was the commentator.

Perpetual trophies and cups, presented in memory of sheep farmers who are no longer with us, will be awarded for quality sheep at the Fair. There will also be a special U15 category, recognising the contribution of the younger generation of sheep farmers, young boys and girls who continue this tradition, supporting Camp Fair into the future. In the afternoon, there will be some fun, social activities and a children's Fancy Dress.
Music and song will fill the air at Camp Cross in the evening and there will be entertainment in the pubs Camp Fair night to bring the Camp Fair Day festivities to a lovely conclusion. Pet Show will be held around 3.30 p.m. All creatures great and small are welcome. Prizes awarded. An Auction of sheep will be held at 4.00 p.m. in Joe's field. Local charities will be the beneficiaries of all proceeds. Donations of sheep will be greatly appreciated. Teas and coffees will be served in Camp Old School from 11.00 a.m. Home baking appreciated. A raffle for a lamb will be held on the day. The staple diet of Camp Fair day is the Mutton Pie. O’Dwyers Mace and Mary’s pies at The Junction Bar will be served up all day as well as having a full menu which is available from morning til night, the choice is endless. And Anne at the Filling Station at the Camp Old Post Office serve speciality coffees and food until 3.00 p.m. BLESSING - CAMP FAIR The bicentenary of St. Mary’s Church will also be marked at Camp Fair this year. On Camp Fair morning, Fr. Michael and/ or Fr. Eamonn will perform a special blessing at approximately 11.30 a.m. This will be a special occasion to remember the generations of local sheep farmers from Camp, throughout the peninsula and beyond, who bought and sold sheep at Camp Fair over the past 200 years. We will also remember the local business community, the many visitors from near and far, and the tourists who enjoyed Camp Fair over the years. All these memories and traditions are woven into the fabric of Camp Fair Day, a special day of celebration in Camp. May all those who have gone before us rest in peace. BOOK READING Rev. West Kerry GAA Michael Kennedy County Minor Championship West Kerry 4-17 Listry 1- 21. Having lost out narrowly to South Kerry in the first round of the County Championship, West Kerry Minors knew they needed a win facing Listry away last Thursday evening, in order to retain any chance of qualifying from their group. Listry had won their opening game against Mitchels. The west started with a flourish, dominating midfield and were leading 2-5 to 0-1 at the end of first quarter. However Listry came alive in second quarter and notched up 9 points (including 3 two pointers) from there until halftime leaving it 2-7 to 0-10 at the break .Listry were back in contention.

The west dug deep and scored a further 1-5 (including 2 two pointers)without reply. Final score West Kerry 4-17 Listry 1-21. No doubt the west will reflect deeply on how they managed to lose such a strong early lead, but Listry showed that they’re a very strong side with a lot of very good players and really put it up to the westerners. However West Kerry showed great belief and character in coming back to win and will have learned a lot from this game. Overall this was a great team performance from the winners with Maidhc Ó Se, Cathal Corduff,Mike O'Leary and Luc Mac Gearailt very much to the fore. Mac Gearailt’s conversion of two late consecutive two pointers under pressure put the west back in the lead, and were essentially
the winning of the game. The later goal was simply the icing on the cake and helped to secure the lead and ease the tension for the travelling supporters. Full credit to both teams for serving up a very entertaining game of football with very little between the sides that kept both sets of supporters enthralled until the very end. Finally a word of commendation to the Listry club whose excellent facilities,organisation and stewarding were a joy to behold on a lovely sunny evening and enhanced the occasion. Next up West Kerry play John Mitchels and Listry play South Kerry on Thursday 27th in the final group games. This group is still wide open and all to play for.
Boosted by their second quarter revival, Listry dominated first ten minutes of second half and a 35th minute goal left it level. By the 40th minute Listry had gone three points clear. West Kerry were in deep trouble having relinquished an early ten point lead. The west got back on level terms with a 42nd minute goal. The artists of ‘An Stiúideo’ will be running a collage night on the 9th of September. Be with us for a drop of tea, and a taste of arts and craft! Meán Scoil Nua an Leith Triúigh: Leaving Cert 2026 Principal Karen Blennerhassett of Meán Scoil Nua an Leith Triúigh said the school was delighted with this year’s Leaving Certificate results. “We are extremely proud of all of our Leaving Certificate students and what they have achieved. We were particularly delighted to see one of our students achieve the maximum 625 points, while almost 30% of the class achieved over 500 points. For a small school, these are fantastic results and are a testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication of our teaching staff. We are very fortunate to have teachers who know their students extremely well and who go above and beyond to support them. One of the great strengths of a smaller school is the level of individual attention, encouragement and support that we can give to each student. Smaller class sizes allow teachers to really know their students, recognise their strengths and support them in reaching their potential, and I think this year’s results really demonstrate the value of that. Most importantly, we were delighted to see students across the full range of abilities achieve results that reflected their hard work and leave the school proud of what they had accomplished. Dingle Young Athletes Celebrate Community Games Success There was plenty of excitement and pride in Dingle following a fantastic weekend of success at the Cairn Community Games held in SETU Carlow last weekend. Our young athletes represented Dingle with great enthusiasm and determination, with some fantastic results across a number of events. The U14 relay team put in a brilliant performance to finish in 4th place, taking home a well-deserved pewter medal. Shane O’Connor also enjoyed individual success, winning 3rd place and a bronze medal in the U14 shot put. There was further reason to celebrate as both the U11 and U14 tag rugby teams produced outstanding performances to come away with gold medals. Their teamwork, commitment and determination were a credit to themselves, their families and everyone involved in Dingle Community Games. We also wish Ellen Terry the very best of luck, who is representing Dingle in the Community Games Arts competition. We are incredibly proud of her achievement. To recognise and celebrate all of these wonderful achievements, a small parade will take place in Dingle on Saturday at 3.30pm. It will be a chance for the community to come together and show these special young people just how proud we are of them. Well done to all our Dingle Community Games competitors — you have done yourselves and your community proud!
