Mayor’s Welcome Community Development Department
Dear neighbours and visitors,
West Hants has so much to offer in all four seasons! Between hiking trails, lakes, and wonderful community events, I hope you are as inspired as I am by the opportunities and natural beauty in every nook and cranny of our municipality.
All our West Hants programming, events, and opportunities occur in Mi’kma’ki, the traditional and ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People. We are grateful to live and play here, appreciate our natural surroundings, and respect this land. We are all treaty people.
We also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in West Hants for over 400 years, and we honour and offer gratitude to those ancestors of African descent who cared for this land we call home.
With 52 communities within our Municipality, there is vibrancy around every corner: between our lively community halls, municipal programs and facilities, fantastic local businesses, and our social community events, there is always something to do! I look forward to seeing you out and about this Summer and Fall.
Check out the Community Calendar regularly at westhants.ca/communitycalendar for event listings throughout West Hants.
Sincerely,
Mayor Abraham Zebian

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility
On March 25th, 2025, WHRM Council approved and adopted the Equity, Anti-Racism, and Accessibility Strategy. The 10-year plan is equipped with action items intended to support all community members with reducing barriers throughout our municipality. We strive to safely welcome all community members into our recreation programs and facilities. We acknowledge that you hold great power in helping us achieve this goal.
While attending our programs and events, please come with the understanding that we do not tolerate discrimination and harassment. Together we will provide safe spaces for all.
We take a ‘Community Navigation’ customer service approach to find the best fit, solution, and support for an active lifestyle within our community. If you face barriers (such as financial struggle, need extra support, etc.) to participating in activities, please reach out to explore options with us. We are here to help.
