Whether this is your first winter here, or you are a seasoned-pro, I invite you to embrace this season in West Hants! There's nothing quite like skiing down Martock during a snowfall, snowshoeing on our groomed trails, or skating with friends and family. In every nook and cranny of our 52 communities, there is a place to explore, a way to play, and to appreciate what we have here!

All of our programming, events, and opportunities occur in Mi’kma’ki, the traditional and ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People. We are grateful to live and play here, appreciate our natural surroundings, and respect this land. We are all treaty people.

I’d like to remind you of two new inspiring initiatives that our Municipal Council supports. First is a 75% reduction in recreation program fees (dry-land programs) for all West Hants Regional Municipality residents.

Second, the Inspire Fund will provide financial assistance to West Hants community members (regardless of age) who, due to the lack of funds, are not able to participate in recreation opportunities throughout our municipality.

I encourage you all to find your 'something' that inspires you to live actively, engage positively, and contribute whole-heartedly. We are West Hants, and we are stronger together!

PHONE: If you cannot register online, or cannot pay at the time of registration*, please call 902-798-8391 ext 214 to register on registration night. Please note that we cannot accept registration requests prior to 6pm on December 1, 2023 to ensure a fair process. *Registration fees are due before programs begin and can be paid through your online account, or in person at the Municipal Office (76 Morison Drive, Windsor) or the Windsor Community Centre (78 Thomas St, Windsor). Payment is not accepted in programs, unless otherwise stated, and we cannot accept e-transfer payments. Pre-approved payment plans are available as well.

Refund Policy: Instant refunds are not available through the registration software. If you require a refund, please contact us using the contact information below at least three days prior to the beginning of the program. There is a $5 admin fee for refunds. Refunds may not be provided to those that choose to withdraw once a program session has started.

program expectations & Inclusion: It is important to note that we offer recreation programs facilitated with youth leaders who receive on-going recreation training. These leaders are not recreation professionals, educational assistants, early childhood educators or teachers. Our programs are not licensed childcare or part of the educational system. We appreciate your kindness as you interact with youth staff.

In all programs, we have safeguards in place to keep children safe and therefore we are not able to provide one-on-one inclusive programming without additional resources. We may not be able to accommodate your child’s needs without your assistance. Please reach out to staff to talk about options before a program begins.

Chair yoga is a program that is geared towards balance, functional strengthening, and flexibility for all individuals. With the use of TheraBands, participants can add their own strength components to this class. These Intro to Chair Yoga Workshops will introduce you to chair yoga. We will explore the gentle movements in a class format. We welcome those who have already experienced chair yoga, however these sessions are designed for those who are curious as to what the Chair Yoga program is. Dill Farm 400 College Road, Windsor Scotia XC is planning to return to Dill Farm where they groom a classic cross country ski track. This is a cross country ski-only option, so borrow some of our skis and hit the trail! Check out Scotia XC: www.scotiaxc.ca

Haliburton House 414 Clifton Ave, Windsor Scotia XC is planning to groom a 1 km multi-use trail where walkers, snowshoers, and dogs on leash can enjoy. There are also plans for a cross country ski-only trail so watch for signage.

Irishmans Road Recreation Site 151 Irishmans Road, Newport Station TrailFlow is planning to groom Glooscap Archers Trail, the Interpretive Trail, and a loop on the lower soccer field for all to enjoy! This is also a fat bike destination in addition to walking, skiing, or snowshoeing.

Tregothic trail Connector trail between Wentworth Road, Tremain Crescent and Payzant Dr., Windsor This 1.4 km trail is a great way to connect your destination or simply a convientient location to reconnect with nature right in Windsor. Walk, fat bike, ski, snowshoe, and more!

SLEDDING HILLS There are a lot of fun locations to enjoy sledding this winter in West Hants. We suggest the hills at Irishmans Road Recreation Site, Haliburton House Museum grounds and Fort Edward National Park. Get outside and enjoy the snow this winter! Sledding is at your own risk, so please sled responsibly.

The Inspire Fund

This fund assists with the cost of recreation opportunities within West Hants Regional Municipality.

“Recreation opportunities” includes structured programs or activities offered by West Hants Regional Municipality, registered businesses, community sport organizations, or registered not-for-profit organizations operating within West Hants Regional Municipality: gym memberships, yoga classes, swim lessons, aquafit, arts programs, theatre programs, martial arts*, sports*

Who qualifies?

West Hants residents living near the Low Income Cut-Off threshold.

4-100+ years of age are eligible for up to $200 per fiscal year (April 1 - March 31). *Applicants 4-18 years of age, who are participating in organized sport, must apply to Jumpstart and KidSport first, before accessing Inspire West Hants Funds.
