Whether you have lived here all of your life or have been 'transplanted' here, everyone has their growing reasons for loving West Hants! One of my favorite things about West Hants is that it is brimming with opportunity to live an active lifestyle. In fact, in every nook & cranny of our 52 communities, there is a place to explore, enjoy nature, and appreciate what we have here!
As we welcome Summer in West Hants, I’m excited to announce two new inspiring initiatives that our Municipal Council has recently supported. First is a 75% reduction in recreation program fees for all West Hants Regional Municipality residents. Second, the Inspire Fund will provide financial assistance to West Hants community members (regardless of age) who, due to the lack of funds, are not able to participate in recreation opportunities throughout our municipality. Both initiatives will help our growing community thrive and we hope this support will encourage more residents to take part in recreational activities and enjoy the benefits of physical activity in our community.
I encourage you all to find your 'something' that inspires you to live actively, engage positively, and contribute whole-heartedly We are West Hants, and we are stronger together!

Mayor's Welcome Find
All of our programming, events, and opportunities occur in Mi’kma’ki, the traditional and ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People. We are grateful to live and play here, appreciate our natural surroundings, and respect this land. We are all treaty people.
We strive to welcome all community members into our recreation programs by creating the safest space possible for all to enjoy. However, we cannot guarantee a completely safe space without everyone ' s help. When participating in our programs and events, come with the understanding that we do not tolerate racism, homophobia, sexism, body shaming or any other forms of discrimination
If you face barriers (financial, ability, transportation, etc), modifications may be available to assist you We take a 'person-first' approach to finding the best fit, solution, and support within our means so please reach out.
Programs and events make our community stronger. We are happy to see our residents engaged and contributing to this positive and strong region that we all love - West Hants.
We employ local youth leaders to manage and deliver programs like summer camp. They receive recreation training but are not recreation professionals, educational assistants, early childhood educators or teachers. Our programs provide a learning environment for the next community leaders & professionals as they learn valuable work skills We appreciate your cooperation as you interact with youth staff
It is important to note that we offer recreation programs and are not licensed childcare providers or part of the educational system. We have safeguards in place to keep children safe and therefore we are not able to provide one-on-one inclusive programming without additional resources. We may not be able to accommodate your child’s needs without your assistance. Please reach out to staff to talk about options before a program begins.
If you have questions or feedback regarding any programs, we would love to hear from you! Please reach out to Sara LeBlanc, 902-798-8391 ext 214 or sleblanc@westhants.ca.

This swim time is designed for individuals who require caregivers (toddlers, older individuals or individuals with disabilities). Children 3 years and under are free.
During this time, we focus on creating an inclusive environment for community members with sensory aversions by eliminating whistles, turning off water features, and keeping group sizes small. We welcome anyone with sensory sensitivities and their caregivers.
We are creating an inclusive space where everybody and every body are welcomed and celebrated. This swim was created for marginalized groups (LGBTQIA+, individuals with disabilities and anyone else that may not feel comfortable during public swim).
Join us for a fun-filled, themed free swim! Each weekly theme will be announced on our Facebook page, so check it out!
