Message from the Chair Colin Fraser Chair
Dear Members Welcome to our Annual Review Report for the financial year 2024-25. My name is Colin Fraser and I am the Chair of the WGHC Committee of Management. I am delighted that your Committee have voted to keep me in this role for the 4th consecutive year in this role. WGHC celebrates its 35 Years anniversary this year, and I feel it is only appropriate that we honour and celebrate the original members of the WGHC Steering Committee. Without them we wouldn’t have West Granton Housing Co-op. What they achieved 35 years ago was something quite remarkable and has given you the homes you live in today and a community to be proud of. Equally, we should also applaud the hard work and time given freely of all the Committee Members who have since followed over the years. All Committee Members are volunteers and through their dedication, passion and hard work have helped to ensure that WGHC continues to operate as an independent Social Landlord. We cannot exist without a Committee of Management and we currently seeking new members to join us. If you are in interested, please contact the Office on 0131 551 5035. Throughout this report you will see facts and figures which should help to give you a clear picture of how we have performed during the period 2024-25. Whilst we do still have some challenges ahead of us (like the cladding remediation works to be undertaken over at the Forthquarter) I hope you will also see that we have tried to help support tenant members through the cost of living crisis, and wish to ensure you all, that we remain committed to our mission statement that our “tenants are paramount in everything we do”.

In addition, WGHC continued to fund its own Tenancy Fuel Initiative whereby all tenants signing a new tenancy agreement (whether they be new or existing transfer tenants receive a £50 credit on their utility account.
From our Tenancy Sustainment Fund, we spent over just £2,100 helping
our tenants maintain their tenancy including assisting those tenants in need of white goods for their home to supporting and assisting tenants who experienced incidents of domestic abuse. WGHC continues to be proud of its significant contribution and efforts to prevent homelessness, well ahead of the “Ask and Act” requirement in the forthcoming new Housing (Scotland) Act. Finally, through joint partnership working with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), WGHC hosted two Cost of Living workshops exclusively for WGHC tenants. Branch Managers from Princes Street and Musselburgh conducted these sessions and both were well attended. More sessions are being planned for later on this year and will be advertised in our Tenant Newsletters.
