T ragedy attended a New Y ear’s Day picnic party from Griffith a t th e river, som e miles from Darlington Point. Ronald Courtenay Mason, 22, w as drowned, and two other m em bers of th e party. Miss Jean M cFadzean aVid A rthur Bryant, w ere rescued in an exhausted condition. Mason’s body w as not recovered for some hours, when two halfcastes w ere brought by th e police from Darlington Point. These skil­ led sw im m ers quickly located the body lying on the bed of the river in sixteen feet of w ater.
