FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK TIM FRIES, PGA WNYPGA Members and Associates, Once again, it has been a very exciting year for PGA REACH WNY. I am continually inspired by not only the growth of the Foundation, but by the many individuals that truly benefit from its expanding programs. Our milestones throughout the year would not have been possible or successful without the support of our Foundation Board of Directors, Trustee Committee, HOPE Ambassadors, PGA Members & Associates, partners, sponsors, donors, and staff. 2023 saw continued success across all of our platforms: Military Programs, Youth Programs, and Diversity & Inclusion. Thank you to all that participated in our events this year by raising your philanthropic and volunteering hands. Without our dedicated Board, benevolent Trustees, charitable sponsors, and selfless volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish our vision and growth potential. I am truly humbled, grateful, and proud to be a small part of an immensely motivated group. To all of our Board Members, thank you for all your time, work ethic, and ideas. It is a pleasure to be a part of everything we have accomplished. We wholeheartedly invite all of you to participate in any capacity and/or just cheer us on through the various fundraising events we continue to facilitate around WNY. Thank you for allowing the PGA REACH WNY Foundation to continue to use the game of golf to impact lives. Here’s to your and our continued success in 2024! Cheers, Tim

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE VICTORIA SCHIRO WNYPGA Members and Associates, It is an honor to serve as the Executive Director of the PGA REACH WNY Foundation. I am inspired every day by the work that our local WNYPGA Professionals continue to do in the community. Founded in 2010 by local PGA Professionals, our goal is to positively impact lives through the game of golf. This charitable arm of the WNYPGA provides access and opportunities to individuals in the community through the game of golf. This past year has been extremely impactful to our local communities! With roughly 160 kids, our Junior Golf Tour touches and impacts lives by teaching life lessons through golf in a fun and safe environment. In 2023, PGA HOPE WNY grew to serve over 120 veterans creating community and camaraderie between the HOPE programs. The PGA Championship at Oak Hill was an opportunity to expose more people to this game that we all love so much. PGA REACH WNY embraced that opportunity and will continue to do so at the new “Pitch and Putt” facility at Genesee Valley Golf Course in Rochester, NY. The PGA of America, together with the Western New York PGA Section, donated $250,000 to the project. Monroe County will match that to create this new space for PGA REACH WNY to run local programs out of. Thank you to all involved with the project; we look forward to seeing it in action next summer! To our partners, sponsors, donors, volunteers, trustees, facilities, and PGA Professionals that continue to support our mission, thank you! Sincerely, Tori

MILITARY PILLAR UPDATE 2023 HOPE GRADUATIONS

PGA HOPE Western New York spring, summer, and fall sessions are in the books! Our 2023 fall sessions wrapped up earlier this month with the final celebration of our veterans who completed the program and took the first step in learning to play golf! Thank you to all of our PGA Professionals for volunteering, and thank you to the facilities for hosting! Keep an eye out for 2024 session registration in the upcoming months.

WHAT IS PGA HOPE? PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America. PGA HOPE introduces golf to veterans to enhance their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. The program introduces the game of golf through a developmental 6-8 week curriculum taught by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. All programs are funded by PGA REACH and supplemented by PGA Section Foundations, so the cost of programming is free to all veterans. PGA HOPE has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which enables Recreational Therapists to refer veterans to the PGA HOPE program as a form of therapy. Through a robust program strategy, PGA HOPE aspires to create a physically and emotionally healthier Veteran community by shaping lives, changing lives, and possibly saving lives through the game of golf.

WHAT IS SPECIAL OLYMPICS NEW YORK (SONY)? Some history about Special Olympics New York starts with "Eunice Kennedy Shriver who founded Special Olympics in 1968. Just one year later, Dorothy Buehring Phillips inaugurated the program in New York and the state sent its first delegation of athletes and coaches to the Northeast Regional Special Olympics competition in Boston, Massachusetts. Special Olympics New York was incorporated in 1970 with Phillips as its first State Director. In June 1970, Rochester hosted the first State Summer Games. Today, Special Olympics New York is the largest program in the United States and one of the largest in the world." Special Olympics New York's mission is to "provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community."

The PGA REACH WNY Foundation is excited to help grow the game by partnering with Special Olympics New York.

Special Olympics at Glen Oak Golf Club! As you may know, Glen Oak has become the official Training Facility of the Erie Golf Club providing resources to help grow the game of golf.
