WESTERN WATER PRIORITIZING WATER FOR ALL INCREASING LOCAL SUPPLY, ADVOCATING FOR STATE SOLUTIONS
As our state enjoys an uptick in rainfall, Western Municipal Water District’s (Western Water) mission persists, recognizing that a single wet season won’t solve California’s water challenges. Western Water works daily to secure the community’s access to reliable water supplies, regardless of the weather.

California’s water system struggles with unpredictable climate patterns, ranging from extremely wet to distressingly dry periods. To address this, Western Water is leading an effort to unite California’s water stakeholders, setting water supply targets and improving water management. Through collaborative efforts, the coalition effectively defined the water supply crisis as a pressing issue requiring immediate action from the State.
Western Water is also involved in a groundbreaking partnership to construct recharge ponds and extraction wells to purchase surplus water imported in wet years via the State Water Project and store it in six groundwater basins within the Santa Ana Watershed.
In parallel, Western Water invests in innovative infrastructure, including groundwater wells, treatment, and conveyance facilities. Our Arlington Desalter uses reverse osmosis to turn groundwater into more than 6 million gallons of drinkable water per day — combined with the Chino Desalter, these two facilities supply nearly 30 million gallons of additional local water to the community.

These strategies are crucial in increasing stored water during wet years to alleviate shortages during dry periods. Western Water is committed to creating sustainable water supplies for its communities, offering various customer support programs and rebates accessible online at WesternWaterCA.gov/ CustomerSupportPrograms

REDUCE YO UR WATER USE
How to stay within your winter water budget
The season is changing, and so will your water budget! As summer comes to an end, plants and grass go dormant, needing less water to stay alive throughout the fall and winter months. As a result, your outdoor water budget will decrease. Here are some ways to reduce your outdoor water usage:
• Tap into Western Water’s rebates and upgrade to a weather-based irrigation controller.

• Decrease your irrigation schedule by minutes/days and turn off irrigation for up to two weeks after rainfall.

• Replace turf with a water-efficient design using our Landscapes with Style guide.
