RAIN OR SHINE
WESTERN WATER IS DRIVEN BY SERVICE
As we navigate the ebbs and flows of our changing climate, one thing remains clear: Western Municipal Water District (Western Water) continues to be forward-thinkers and flexible in water management strategies. We don’t just acknowledge this need; we actively embrace it as our mission.
In this edition, learn how Western Water is leading the way with innovative initiatives that underscore our commitment to serving you – our customers.
BENEATH OUR FEET THE KEY TO WATER SECURITY WHEN IT’S DRY ABOVE
Just as you might deposit money in a bank for a rainy day, we’re now banking water for sunny ones. Our new groundwater banking program is like a savings account but for water, designed to harness the abundance of wet seasons to make it available to you during dry spells. This means we’re capturing rainwater and surplus water to store it underground, ready to be tapped whenever needed.
A CYCLE OF SUSTAINABILITY
Reflecting on the dry years of 2020 to 2022 and the contrasting storms of 2023, we’ve kickstarted a visionary two-year plan to stockpile this vital resource. So far, we’ve managed to secure over 5,000 acre-feet of water – enough to quench the indoor water needs of 20,000 families of four for a year. And we’re just getting started.

STRENGTHENING REGIONAL RESILIENCE
Our commitment extends beyond individual efforts. Through the Santa Ana River Conservation and Conjunctive Use Program (SARCCUP), we’re partnering with other water agencies to enhance our storage capabilities and ensure that this precious resource can be shared across the region, building a network of support and resilience against future droughts.
JOIN US IN SECURING CALIFORNIA’S WATER FUTURE
Western Water isn’t stopping there. We’re activating statewide partnerships to advance and secure California’s water future, advocating for smart investments in water capture, conveyance, and storage.

TOOLS FOR SAVING THE MOST ON YOUR WATER BILL
60% OF YOUR WATER IS USED OUTDOORS
One often overlooked fact is that about 60% of your water consumption occurs outdoors. Recognizing that outdoor water use plays a dominant role in your bill, we encourage water-saving solutions that may also save you money.
• Drip Irrigation System: Invest in a drip irrigation system for your landscape, a costeffective and water-efficient alternative to traditional watering methods.
• Smart Controller Rebate: Seize the opportunity to save on a weather-based irrigation controller with our rebate program. These controllers optimize watering schedules based on weather conditions, ensuring efficient water usage.
