LETTER FROM THE CEO

Dear Western Force Members, Supporters, and Family,

Last weekend in Melbourne at Super Round, we had 39 supporters who joined the 2023 tour. Force, players, coaches, staff and I would personally like to thank you all for your generous support of rugby in West Australia, either as a valued sponsor, member, supporter or tourist.

The Western Force is shining a light on ‘Women In Sport’ this round. Before the Moana Pasifika clash, the Super W squad will play the South Australian Black Falcons in their final pre-season trial match. Let's get behind them and support the team leading into a highly anticipated 2023 campaign.

In alignment with International Women’s Day on Wednesday March 8. The Force is leading the competition in creating more opportunities for female athletes and staff members and is keen to encourage others to do the same.

By initiating the first semi-professional Super W Academy, employing the competition's first full-time female analyst, and persistently generating pillars of growth for women's rugby, the Force has and will continue to champion for greater gender equality on and off the field.

Acknowledging that gender equality is an all of humanity issue 365 days a year, the club is deeply committed to growing the reach and strength of its women’s program, today and every day. We call on others to join us in putting gender on the agenda in rugby.

When the men take on Moana Pasifika for the first time on home soil, while I can't predict a result, I can say the coaching group will perform exceptionally well and have the players primed for a must-win game.

Let's all dust ourselves down and get ready to support our team on Saturday night loudly and proudly. The team and players need you.

Yours in rugby,

Match PREVIEW

During the first pre-season match v Melbourne Rebels, the Super W team demonstrated that they can come back from behind and rally resilience. The women worked as a unified team and fought to come back and win.

“The first 10 minutes of the Rebels game was some of the best as we stuck to our systems and structures; when we went away from this is when we lost the cohesion," stated Claudia Bell highperformance manager.

This week the Super W are looking to capitalise on this momentum. Earlier this week, Trilleen Pomare was once again named captain for the 2023 season. She adds her international experience and learnings from the Wallaroos to the

benefit of the developing players.

With a rich history dating back to 1932, the South Australian Black Falcons venture to the West for the first time. The Black Falcons are a formidable team and will put up a good contest testing the Force’s consistency and depth. Keep a watch on the impact of the experienced veteran Zahn Anthony who captains the Black Falcons. It will be a tough match, but all indicators are that the Force will go back to back on home soil.

Match PREVIEW

Out every Thursday morning on Apple, Spotify and wherever you listen to your podcasts.

The visit to Melbourne finished with many learnings and highlighted key areas of focus. The Force will be out with a vengeance when they take on the hard-hitting Moana Pasifika.

Moana Pasifika has shown plenty of firepower across their ranks with a strong centre pairing in Danny Toala and Fine Inisi and speed out wide in Anzelo Tuitavuki and Timoci Tavatavanawai. The Moana men will rely heavily on their experience and wisdom to get in the game early, where they’ll look to dominate physically and finish with flair in attack.

Head coach Simon Cron will again be testing the depth within his

squad. Ollie Callan avoided a red card suspension and head knocks to Michael Wells and Jeremy Williams will see a re-shuffle of the pack. Here, the opportunity will arise for younger players to step up, get some game time and make their mark.

After being on the money in defence in Week 1, the Force lapsed against the Reds, and they’ll need to tighten up to combat the big physical shape of Pasifika. It can’t

become a wrestling match, or the Force will feel like they’re on an 80-minute carnival ride. They need to shut down their opponents quickly and steal and disrupt as much possession as possible at set piece time and in the breakdown.

This will be a big test for the Force to see how they regroup and bounce back. Wanting to make HBF Park their fortress, they will use this as their extra motivation to get them over the line.

CHAMPIONING OUR RUGBYWA WOMEN

Thanks to our generous sponsors, Fortescue Metals Group, RugbyWA’s Female and Inclusion Officer, Gemma Owen, has been able to continue providing exceptional opportunities for girls to be part of an off-season Academy that focuses on providing technical and tactical skill development. This Academy is another pathway for young girls to help realise a dream of playing rugby for the Western Force or Wallaroos. With the successful 2022 Women’s World Cup, this dream could be a reality for many young women in this State.

Keen to Play?

RugbyWA’s club competition provides female athletes with both new and existing opportunities to thrive in a competitive rugby community. The Community 10s competition is a great way to step into the rugby world if you are new to the game

by providing a safe and friendly environment while you build up your skills and create lifelong friendships.

The RugbyWA Women’s 15-a-side competition allows players looking for a more challenging experience to go head-to-head against some of the best talent in the state. Women that have represented Western Force or the Wallaroos will test your skills in fast-paced and highly skilled games.
