WANGOOM’S Sophia Melican and Warrnambool’s Tayah Duthie have been recognised among the burgeoning talent entering the agricultural workforce.
Sophia and Tayah were among more than 107 students (along with family and staff) who came together to celebrate their Rural Industries Skill Training (RIST) graduation.
Sophia, a Diploma of Agriculture graduate, was recognised with a Values in Action Award.
The award is given to those who consistently demonstrate integrity, accountability and positive contribution throughout their studies.
Warrnambool’s Tayah Duthie, who completed a Certificate II in Agriculture, was named winner of the Emerging Leader and Innovator Award.
The award recognises recipients
who demonstrate initiative, leadership potential and a forward-thinking approach to agriculture.
RIST chief executive officer Bill Hamill reflected on being part of the graduates’ learning journey and supporting their growth as they progressed through their course.
“Your accomplishment reflects the dedicated focus you have given to making the most of this opportunity of learning from industry-leading agricultural trainers, using the latest technologies and taking classroom theory into practical on-farm, skillbased learning in real-world situations,” he said.
“You represent the future of our industry and are now the critical thinkers with a skillset highly sought after by employers.”
The celebration recognised the achievements of graduates of the

Certificate in Agriculture, Certificate II in Shearing, Certificate III in Agriculture, Certificate IV in Agriculture, Certificate IV in Wool Classing, and Diploma in Agriculture.
RIST head of student experience Helen Read said the event was an opportunity to recognise the qualities RIST aims to instil in all its graduates.
“We have also awarded a graduate in each course who exemplifies the values every RIST graduate takes into the agricultural sector,” she said.
“Their curiosity, problem-solving and commitment to continuous improvement through responsible practice, respect for others and commitment to sustainable agriculture.
“Through consistent performance, attention to detail and professional application of agricultural knowledge, they have demonstrated excellence in practice.”

KOROIT has taken another step towards becoming Heart Safe, with Ambulance Victoria (AV) donating a new publicly accessible automated external defibrillator (AED) to Moyne Shire Council.
The new heart-starting device has been installed at the Blackwood Centre in Commercial Road to be used by locals or visitors in the case of a cardiac arrest.
It has been donated as part of AV and the Heart Foundation’s ‘Heart Safe Communities’ initiative, which equips communities across Victoria with the skills and resources to help save a life from cardiac arrest.
A cardiac arrest occurs when a person’s heart suddenly stops pumping blood effectively around the body and an AED can be used to attempt to shock the patient’s heart back into normal function.
AV paramedic Tara-lee Boyce said AEDs make a clear, life-saving difference.
“The latest Ambulance Victoria data shows that when cardiac arrest patients are shocked by a public AED before paramedics arrive, an incredible 63 per cent survive. This is compared to just seven per cent when there was no bystander CPR or AED use,” she said.
“Heart Safe Communities is all about teaching Victorians that anyone can help save a life – simply follow the three steps: Call (call Triple Zero (000)), Push (push hard and fast on the middle of the chest to give CPR) and Shock (use an AED if available).”
She said anyone can use an AED. If someone is in cardiac arrest and an AED is available, simply open it and follow the instructions.
Moyne Shire Council mayor Cr Jordan Lockett welcomed the addition of the new heart starter.

“AEDs are life-saving devices, and it’s incredibly important to have them accessible in the places where our community lives, works and gathers,” he said.
“Moyne Shire is very grateful to Ambulance Victoria for this generous donation, which will help keep our community safer.”
Koroit is one of 12 Victorian towns currently completing the Heart Safe Communities program.
Heart Foundation Victoria General Manager Chris Enright said the program was making a real difference.
“We are proud to support Ambulance Victoria to deliver the Heart Safe Communities program, ensuring more communities have the life-saving tools and training they need to act fast in an emergency,” she said.
“We encourage everyone to know where their nearest AED is located and for businesses, shop owners and sports clubs to ensure their AEDs are made publicly accessible and registered with up-to-date details.”
The new AED will boost the number of AEDs in Koroit to 12, five of them accessible 24/7.
A WARRNAMBOOL cyclist has died following a collision with a vehicle in Cudgee last weekend.
According to police, it’s alleged the vehicle, a red 2023 Toyota Landcruiser ute, and the cyclist were travelling east along Hopkins Falls Road about 8.10am on Saturday when the collision occurred.
The cyclist died at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, a 20 yearold Wangoom man, was arrested at the scene and has since been interviewed and released pending further enquiries.
Detectives are currently working to establish whether a large truck was travelling west along Hopkins Falls Road at the time of the collision and are eager to speak to the driver to assist with their investigation.
Police also urge anyone who may have been travelling in the area around the time of the collision to check their dashcams.
Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of the collision.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, with footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or anonymously at www. crimestoppersvic.com.au
This brings to 54 the number of lives lost on roads across Victoria this year.

THE message to the state government from road users at last weekend’s ‘Broken Roads, Broken Promises’ rally in Warrnambool was loud and clear – fix our roads and fix them now.
The rally, organised by Michael White of the ‘Hogs, Cogs and Two Aussie Flogs’ motorcycle podcast, attracted a large crowd to the Civic Green on Saturday.
“We estimate there were about 400 people at the rally, and not just motorcyclists,” Mr White said.
“It was a great turnout; a combination of motorcyclists from local areas and afar, through to farmers and other road users. We all agreed that the roads across this region are absolutely appalling and something needs to be done sooner rather than later.
“How much longer are we expected to put up with these conditions? The roads

are crumbling, potholes are big enough to swallow tyres and dangerous surfaces are putting every motorist at risk.
“Whether you’re on two wheels, four wheels, 18 wheels or driving a tractor, the road conditions are well below satisfactory.”
According to Mr White, motorcyclists are being thrown around like rag dolls, farmers are battling to move stock and equipment safely, truckers are dodging craters and tourists are leaving with busted suspensions rather than happy memories.
“This isn’t bad luck, it isn’t just wear and tear, it’s government neglect.”
Mr White said motorists were calling on the state government to stop ignoring regional Victoria and stop treating the south west
“like an afterthought.”
“We are all sick of broken promises; roads need to be a major election issue and that’s what we’re calling on the state government to do – make roads a priority because enough is enough; and we’ve had enough.”

FROM destinations such as Lake Pertobe and the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens to smaller neighbourhood parks, open spaces are a crucial part of life in Warrnambool.
Local residents are being invited to help shape the future of these spaces, with council’s Draft Warrnambool Open Space Strategy recently released for public comment.
The strategy looks at how open spaces can be protected and enhanced over the next 15 years.
Warrnambool mayor Cr Ben Blain said Warrnambool was home to 169 open spaces across the city.
“This strategy looks at the full network of local parks, reserves and green spaces across our city,” he said.
“Big or small, they all have a role to play in the health and wellbeing of our community and our natural environment.
“As we grow, it won’t just be a question of how much open space we have, but whether it’s in the right places, and how we can make the most of it.
“This draft strategy sets a clear direction to protect our valued natural areas, optimise the open space we already have, and grow the network alongside new communities, all while keeping long-term maintenance and financial sustainability front of mind.”
Residents can read the Draft Open Space Strategy and share their feedback at www. yoursaywarrnambool.com.au.
Hard copies of the strategy and feedback survey are also available at the Civic Centre, 25 Liebig Street.
“We’ve already received input from over 100 people, and that feedback helped us to develop the draft,” Cr Blain said.
“Your feedback will help shape a network of open spaces that work for families, young people, older residents and for everyone lucky enough to live in or visit Warrnambool.”

MOYNE Shire Council has developed an advocacy plan for the 2026 Victorian State Election, setting out the priorities it will be taking to the incoming state government on behalf of the Moyne community.
The advocacy plan has been shaped by the Moyne Shire Council Plan 2025-2029 and the 2025-26 Action Plan, both developed with direct input from community members across the shire.
The priorities it reflects are grounded in what residents and local businesses have identified as the region’s most pressing needs.
In developing the plan, council has been mindful of the current financial pressures facing the state government.
The advocacy plan is focused and deliberate, prioritising the areas where state government action would have the most meaningful and lasting impact for people living and working in Moyne Shire.
Further details on the council’s specific priorities will be released in the coming weeks.
“We know the state government is operating in a difficult fiscal environment, and we have been deliberate about the asks we are making,” mayor Cr Jordan Lockett said.
“This plan is not about compiling everything on our radar. It is about making a focused, well evidenced case for what will make a real difference to our communities.
“The Moyne Action Plan 2025-2026 gave residents a genuine voice in shaping these priorities, and we are committed to carrying that work forward into the election conversation.”
Council is looking forward to engaging with candidates and parties from across the political spectrum in the lead-up to the election, and to securing a positive outcome for local communities.

THE Warrnambool Aero Club is celebrating a massive success following its recent Wheels and Wings event.
Held at the Warrnambool Airport last weekend, the day saw an estimated 1000 attendees pass through the gates, marking an unprecedented level of interest and support from the local community.
Perfect weather set the stage for a
spectacular showcase of aviation and automotive engineering.
The visiting aircraft and the car show and shine display captivated the large crowds from 11am until the event wrapped up at 3pm.
A standout highlight of the day was the beloved Tiger Moth aircraft named Millie, which ran around the clock to delight aviation enthusiasts and keep up with the incredible demand.

The Warrnambool Aero Club extends its deepest gratitude to the local businesses whose sponsorships and backing made the day possible.
“Crucially, the club also wishes to acknowledge the amazing generosity of the general public,” club secretary
Janek Kause said.
“Entry to Wheels and Wings was strictly by donation, and attendees truly dug deep.
“It is exactly this kind of wonderful community spirit that allows the club to keep the gates open to everyone in the future, ensuring the event remains a fun and affordable day out for local families without the need for expensive ticket prices.”
The club also thanked its members and volunteers, whose hard work was the true driving force behind this “incredible milestone for the local aviation community.”

MOYNE Shire councillor Karen Foster has been appointed Chair of the Australian Coastal Councils Association.
Established in 2004 the Australian Coastal Councils Association (ACCA) is a national body formed to represent the interests of coastal councils such as Moyne and those further afield including the City of Rockingham in Western Australia, City of Victor Harbor, South Australia, and Ballina Shire Council, New South Wales.
Cr Foster said it was an honour to be elected chairperson of the ACCA, having previously served as treasurer on the national executive as one of two Victorian representatives.
“As chairperson I head an executive team comprising representatives from all states of Australia, and it’s clear we share many concerns and challenges, demonstrating the need for strong research and advocacy around the issues affecting our regions,” Cr Foster said.
“The ACCA has a strong focus on issues such as coastal erosion and impacts of sea level rise along with the need to ensure local government has the financial resources it needs to help protect our sensitive coastlines.”
Cr Foster said ACCA was set to launch a new advocacy push to the federal government, calling for a national approach to climate adaptation and coastal hazards, along with the funding needed to protect vulnerable coastal communities.
“With the coastal zone being home to more than 85 per cent of Australia’s population, it plays a pivotal role in the life of our nation and one worth protecting,” she said.
Mayor Jordan Lockett said it was fantastic to have Cr Foster leading the ACCA and allowing a local voice on a national level.
“Our coastlines are incredibly important to us, from Peterborough to Yambuk, and to have a voice at the table is amazing,” Cr Lockett said.
To read more about the ACCA and its research reports in relation to coastal issues, head to their website www.coastalcouncils.org.au

LAST weekend’s Koori Karnival was again enjoyed by local and visiting families, with a wide range of activities, rides and information.
Saturday’s event offered young visitors the chance to enjoy a host of free activities including pony rides and reptile encounters, face painting, inflatables and a giant sand pit.
Local indigenous musicians kept audiences entertained throughout the day while food trucks ensured everyone was kept well nourished.
Cultural activities including basket weaving and storytelling were just some of the highlights of what was a very successful day.

WITH more than 150 registered walkers and $4,464 raised, last weekend’s ‘Gillin Boys Walk 4 A Cure’ has been hailed one of the biggest and most successful yet.
Last Sunday’s walk, which took participants on a leisurely stroll (or ride) from the Lady Bay Resort car park to the lifesaving club and return (via the beach track to the Pavilion) attracted participants of all ages.
The event, which was the sixth to be held in Warrnambool, attracted one of the largest crowds to date.
“This was our biggest turnout yet, and we were absolutely thrilled,” organiser and foundation co-founder Christopher Gillin said.
“We had somewhere between 150 and 160 people participate which was amazing.”
“All funds raised on the weekend, from both the registrations and the sale of
foundation merchandise, will be donated to the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in our next significant donation.”
Christopher paid tribute to all those who helped on the day, along with those who participated.
“A massive thanks to everyone who came along to support our event, we continue to be blown away by the level of support we receive from the local community and beyond,” he said.
“Hopefully everyone returns next year, and more, so we can continue to grown the walk even bigger and better.”
Christopher also thanked the five members from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute’s muscle research lab who also attended.
“We are extremely proud of the partnership we have formed with the institute and we love seeing them at our events,” he said.

CREATIVES, changemakers and community collaborators will gather in Koroit tonight (March 27).
Regional Arts Victoria and Moyne Shire Council will host ‘LOOP Creative Social’ at The Koroit Stables from 5.30pm.
The event is set to be an evening of connection, conversation and realworld insights into partnerships and collaboration.
Designed for southwest Victoria’s creatives, businesses and community collaborators, this informal gathering offers a chance to network, share ideas and strengthen the region’s creative sector.
In a series of quick-fire talks, industry experts and local creatives will share ‘Five Things I’ve Learnt About Collaboration’, offering real-world stories and practical insights into working across sectors.
Wisdom-sharers will include Liz Price, CEO of Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism, Regional Arts Victoria’s Stacie Bobele, and local artists Caroline Healey and Emma Stenhouse.
Attendees will gain practical tips on building successful partnerships, reaching new audiences and working collectively to deliver creative projects and initiatives.
Adding to the atmosphere will be a Welcome to Country and live music from Gunditjmara musician Andy Alberts, alongside three emerging young musicians collaborating on new work, and live graphic recording by Shelley Knoll-Miller.
Guests will also enjoy catering by Izzy’s, set within Koroit’s quirky restored 1890s stables.
The impact of the Creative Social initiative is already being seen across the region.
At the first event, the $2,000 seed funding and mentoring package was awarded to Kelp Magazine, a creative collaboration celebrating coastal culture and storytelling in the southwest.
Kelp Magazine founder Katrina Carey said the support helped bring the idea to life.
“The mentoring sessions helped validate
and expand my idea, which gave me the confidence so many creatives lack,” Katrina said.
“The seed funding supported me to activate markets and grow visibility. I was also connected to a host of useful contacts which led to further advice and collaboration, so it’s been an incredibly valuable opportunity.”
A new support package, including $1000 seed funding and one-on-one mentoring with industry experts, will again be up for grabs, helping a local collaborative idea grow into an impactful creative project.
Moyne Shire mayor Cr Jordan Lockett said the event reflects council’s commitment to strengthening the creative sector across the southwest.
“When developing Moyne Shire’s arts and culture strategy, our community told us they wanted more opportunities to connect, share ideas and build networks,” Cr Lockett said.
“Creative Social responds directly to that feedback, bringing people together to support collaboration and strengthen our region’s creative sector.”
Regional Arts Victoria’s southwest regional manager Stacey Barnes said the event was designed to bring together people from all corners of the region’s creative community.
“From musicians and makers to venues, volunteers, businesses and curious locals, anyone who believes in collaboration has something to gain at this event,” Ms Barnes said.
Backed by the Fletcher Jones Family Foundations, the event celebrates creative talent and helps turn great local ideas into action.
This event is delivered as part of Moyne Shire’s arts and culture strategy and the South West Creative Industries Strategy, a regional initiative supporting the creative sector across Corangamite, Glenelg, Moyne, Southern Grampians and Warrnambool.

Training sessions are held each Wednesday and Thursday at the Reid Oval from 5pm (15s and 18s) and 6pm (seniors).

THE clay is set to fly once again at Premier Speedway when cars return to the track this weekend.
The 2026 Victorian Wingless Sprint title will headline this Saturday night’s program in what is shaping up to be a great night of racing.
As of Wednesday this week, 53 nominations had been received including former Terang resident Brad Warren who will make the trip from his Pakenham home to race.

While Warren will be eager to keep his hands on the V1, he will be hard pressed by brother Jake.
Cobden siblings Blake and Carly Walsh will also be keen to get on the podium, as will Mt Gambier brothers Mitchell and Ryan Broome.
Blake Walsh is the current South Australian and Northern Territory title holder and is tipped to be a ‘red hot’ chance to win.
This event will be a great warm-up to the national championships in Western Australia

on April 17 and 18 at the Perth Motorplex. Warrnambool drivers entered for this Saturday include Nirranda’s Luke Weel, Mick Rigby and former national champion Alex Ross who will return to the clay after a threeyear absence.
Speedcars and late models are also on the program, with a big field of cars expected.
Gates open at 4pm Saturday with racing from 5.30pm.

ALLANSFORD-PANMURE have made it two flags in three years after winning the Warrnambool Moyne and District Cricket Association premier division grand final on the weekend.
Dennington skipper Ben Rantall won the toss and elected to bat first at the Reid Oval on Saturday.
The Dogs made a cautious start before opener Shannon Beks was stumped by Zavier Mungean from the bowling of Brandon Bant for one, with the score on 15.
Samith Sepala was next to go, caught behind for 23 from the bowling of Ethan Boyd.
The biggest partnership of the innings came next, with Dilip Tharaka and Farooq Qureshi putting on 105 for the third wicket in 33 overs before Tharaka was caught behind off Boyd for an innings high 71 from 127 balls with nine boundaries.
Qureshi went on to make 55 from 152 balls as regular wickets started to fall for the Dogs.
From 2/144 Dennington lost its last eight wickets while adding 69 to be all out in the 79th over for 213.
Sanjaya Fernando was the best of the lower order, contributing 25 from 33 balls.
Joe Kenna led the Allansford-Panmure bowling with 4/33 from 12.3 overs, Boyd took 3/43 from 15 with Bant and Charlie James taking a wicket each.
Gators openers Shashan Silva and Kade Parker got their team off to a strong start before Parker was caught for 23 with the score on 29.
Silva was the second wicket to fall (with the score on 65), the skipper caught for 30 from 55 deliveries.
After Zavier Mungean was dismissed without scoring, Chris Bant and Charlie James took the score to 109 before both were dismissed with the score on that total.
Bant made 44 from 66 balls, hitting seven boundaries, with James out for five from 32 balls.
Daniel Meade joined Patrick Mahony at the crease, with the pair carrying the Gators to victory with an unbeaten 106 run partnership for the sixth wicket.
Mahony was unbeaten on 32, but it was Meade who blasted Allansford-Panmure to victory, hitting 11 boundaries in his unbeaten 69 from 130 balls.
Rantall led the Dennington bowlers with 2/56 from 17 overs, with Sam Worden, Sanjaya Fernando and Pishan Hewage taking a wicket each.
Meade was named player of the match
for his innings.
The weekend was even more special for Allansford-Panmure as the Gators also took out the championship division premiership.
Gators skipper Declan Bourke won the toss and elected to bat first against Hawkesdale at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval, with his team bowled out in 51 overs for 112.
Kyall Timms top scored with 52 from 69 balls, with Bourke making a patient 35 from 139 balls.
Will Morrison was the pick of the Hawkesdale bowlers with 5/22 from 14 overs, with his new ball partner Lachlan
Glare taking 4/44 from 25 overs.
In reply, Hawkesdale struggled to get any meaningful partnerships going, and collapsed from 6/85 to be all out for 86 in 60.4 overs.
Timms took 3/11 from 16 overs, veteran quick Ben Boyd took 3/16 from 13.4 overs with off-spinner Simon Richardson economically taking the new ball alongside Boyd with 1/23 from 16 overs.
Allansford-Panmure were 2/40 in their second innings when play was called; the Gators winning the first innings by 26 runs. Timms was awarded the player of the match medal for his impressive all-round game.

NORTHERN Raiders Cricket Club has celebrated a successful season both on and off the pitch.
A bumper crowd turned out last Friday night for the junior and senior presentations, also acknowledging past premiership glories from the former Grassmere Cricket Club history.
Guests included Moyne Shire deputy mayor Cr Myra Murrihy along with Warrnambool Moyne District Cricket Association representative, Rob Johncock.
Junior awards were presented for the under 11 mixed, under 13s, under 14 girls, under 15s and under 17s – with special recognition of the under 14 girls as 2025/26 grand finalists.
Former Grassmere Cricket Club premiership sides were well represented,
with five men representing their late fathers who were members of the 1955/56 A grade premiership team.
Both the 50 year Colts and 30 year A grade one-day Cup players were also introduced to the crowd.
A highlight of the evening was the attendance of 87 year-old Kevin White and his son Ashely who both played in the 1995-96 B grade premiership side.
Kevin was a renowned opening batsman and wicketkeeper of legend status via the original Grassmere Cricket Association (where he is a life member and original inducted Hall of Fame member in 2005-06).
Kevin was a stalwart player of the Bushfield Cricket Club before it went into recess after the 1978/79 season.
He played with Mailors Flat and was a member of the club’s first ever A grade

flag – premiers and champions in season 1979/80.
After a brief stint with Purnim, Kevin’s career was completed at the Grassmere club where he spent another 20 years.
He was awarded a life membership of the Grassmere Cricket Club in 2010/11 and was acknowledged by the Northern Raiders as its number one ticket holder for the 2021/22 season.
“Last Friday night was a great one for our club, with the room packed with members, families and supporters,” Raiders spokesman Peter McDonald said.
“The reunion guys enjoyed catching up to reminisce and share memories while the juniors and their families enjoyed the presentations.
“To have Kevin there, at the age of 87, was fantastic. Some recalled the years he would
present the Saturday night GCA cricket results via 3YB; it was a must to listen to back then and he’s still an icon today within local cricket circles.”
Ed Taylor dominated the Premier division one awards, taking home the batting aggregate/average plus Club Champion award.
Jo Noonan took home the prestigious Club Service Person Award. Other award recipients included: Division one – captains award Paddy Bubb, club champion/batting awards Ed Taylor, bowling average Hayden McGovern. Club coaches award – Sam Gleeson. Division two – champion and bowling Corey Couch, Under 15 award winners – Timmy White, Sam Gleeson and Jack Hollard. Under 13 – coaches award Nate Maher.

DENNINGTON has celebrated back-to-back division three premiership victories.
The Dogs put on a great display with bat and ball at Brierly last weekend, defeating Port Fairy to take home their second premiership flag in as many seasons. Port Fairy skipper Josh Hill won the toss and sent Dennington into bat, with the Dogs posting 4/227 from their 40 overs. Veteran opener Jamie Fogarty led the way, batting through the innings to make an unbeaten 99 from 107 balls, including 11 boundaries.
Nick Squires was the other main contributor with 76 from 95 balls, putting on 153 for the second wicket with Fogarty. Lewis Carmichael, Bailey Else and Radush Mohan took a wicket each for Port Fairy.
After slumping to 2/7, the Pirates put on 98 for the third wicket to give themselves a chance.
Mohan top scored with 58 from 80 balls (including three boundaries and a six) while Nicholas Gunn made 48 from 85 balls.
Once that pair was dismissed, the Pirates fell behind in their scoring and were restricted to 7/176 from their 40 overs to give Dennington a 51 run win. Dogs’ captain Mick Howley took 2/38 from seven overs, with a wicket each to Brad Coleman, Michael Williams, Pete Shephard and Kaleb Allen as Dennington made it back to back division three titles. Fogarty was awarded the player of the match medal for his innings.

Netball Club is on the hunt for some female footballers to join its senior side this season.
Despite having only entered a senior women’s side in the Western Victoria Female Football League competition for the past three seasons, the Blues have committed to also entering teams in the under 18 and under 15 girls’ competitions this year.
With a ‘hub round’ this Sunday (March 29) against Branxholme at Tyrendarra, the women are eager to test their skills on the ground before their first home game against Terang Mortlake at Reid Oval on Sunday, April 12.
Alicia Drew, a strong advocate for women’s football across the district, and a member of the Blues’ senior women’s side, said there was “great excitement” in the Blues camp in the lead-up to the season opener.
“We’re so excited to have gone from just one female footy side in the past to three this season; it’s a great reflection on the work the club has been doing to promote women’s football,” she said.
“And, just quietly, I think quite a few of the dads are also enjoying the chance to share their love of the game with their daughters. It’s a win-win all round.”
While the senior women’s side is currently short on numbers, Alicia is confident new players will join the Blues in the coming weeks – and some of the “older” juniors will be happy to fill the gaps when needed.
“Our spirits are high, we’re getting good numbers to training and everyone is just up and about. You can see the enthusiasm on the girls’ faces at training; they’re just so keen to get out there and have a crack.
“We have some great coaches who have great footy brains as well as a lot
of patience and enthusiasm – which is very handy when it comes to coaching a group of girls/women.”
Season 2025 was an introductory one for several Blues players, with the team failing to notch up a win in the eight rounds.
And while emphasis is not placed on winning, Alicia said the team was keen to notch up a win this season.
“Everyone is eager to have some fun and learn new skills but they’re also pretty competitive and have that desire to win so who knows what the season may bring,” she said.
“We’ve got a great bunch of girls here, and supportive coaches who enjoy sharing their knowledge, and we’d love to have some new players join us.
“You don’t need a footy background, just come to training and have some fun. All abilities are welcome.”
Season 2026 will see the Blues’ female
footballers led by a team of dedicated and experienced coaches.
Ian Duerdan will lead the seniors, Luke Jackson is in charge of the under 18s while Andrew Paton will inspire and lead the under 15 girls.
And season 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting one for the Blues, with the senior women’s fixture incorporating 12 rounds, while the under 18s will enjoy 10 rounds and the under 15s, nine rounds – with all finals scheduled to start from July 12.
The under 18s will kick-off their 2026 campaign with a round one clash at Reid on Sunday, April 12 when they take on the Bloods.
The Blues under 15s’ campaign will commence on Friday, April 17 when they face Port Fairy at Gardens Oval. All trainings are held at the Reid Oval. For information contact Alicia Drew on 0422 571 816.
