Celebrate winter at Koroit Primary

KOROIT and District Primary School is gearing up to host its very first ‘Winter Lights and Delights’ event this weekend.

This new night of community celebration in the heart of Koroit will run from 5pm-8.30-pm tomorrow, Saturday, August 15. The school will light up the night, bringing together families, locals and visitors for an evening of lights, music, food and winter fun. The event will celebrate local creativity and community spirit, with illuminated displays, live music, food trucks, market stalls and plenty of activities for children. Adding a touch of nostalgia to the evening will be a display of vintage vehicles, tractors and stationary engines, alongside decorated vehicles and community displays. Children’s artwork will also feature throughout the event, with giant games, activities with the CWA, warm drinks, local food and entertainment creating plenty to see and do. The evening is designed to be enjoyed by all ages, with visitors encouraged to rug up, bring the family and embrace a winter night outdoors.

New hub for antenatal care

AN increase in demand on South West Healthcare’s women’s health service has resulted in the need to relocate the service.

With demand for the service growing and expanding, it is now operating from a new clinic at 1/304 Timor Street, Warrnambool. The service offers midwife antenatal appointments, midwifery group practice (MGP) appointments, a birth reflection clinic, infant feeding support service, and perinatal social work (wellbeing appointments and perinatal psychiatry). The former Possum House building has been renovated to become a new welcoming and dedicated space for parents and expecting families to come for appointments, without having to go through to the main hospital building. The new clinic site also has parking available on-site for parents with prams, making access to the clinic easier and safer for parents attending with small children. Women’s health service manager Kate Turner said the team loves the new space. “This new site looks and feels lovely, and we hope that by making it easier to get to the clinic, we will ease the burden of regular ante and post-natal check- ups for families,” Kate said. “It’s important to note that while the majority of the antenatal appointments have moved to the Timor St clinic, patients attending the women’s health service for the infusion clinic and all doctor appointments, will still need to present to level 4 at the Warrnambool Base Hospital. “Having the women’s health service split this way, where all low risk antenatal care is attended offsite, has allowed space for our gynaecology appointments on level four (including the newly launched Menopause

Cash boost for local events

FOUR major Warrnambool events will each receive $20,000 through Warrnambool City Council’s 2026-2-27 Festival and Events Fund. The festival and events fund will see 28 events share in a total $196,632. Those to receive $20,0000 (through the fund’s Partnership Stream) include the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, the Victorian Junior Youth/Senior Lifesaving Championships, Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Festival, and Warrnambool Racing Club’s May Racing Carnival and Jericho Cup. The grants aim to support events which contribute to the local economy and build the profile of Warrnambool as a vibrant regional city. Warrnambool mayor Cr Ben Blain said the successful applications represented a diverse mix of sporting, cultural, tourism and community events. “Events play such an important role in creating a vibrant city; they attract visitors, support local businesses and give people opportunities to come together,” he said. “It was really encouraging to receive so many applications from people and organisations working to deliver events in Warrnambool. “Long-running events like the May Racing Carnival, the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic and the Melbourne to Warrnambool are true destination events. Warrnambool wouldn’t be the same without them, and as a council, we’re proud to back them.” Cr Blain said council was also supporting six established events through the fund for the first time. “It’s really pleasing to see the Surf ‘T’ Surf returning to the Warrnambool events calendar,” he said. “Council has been a long-term supporter of the event, and its absence in 2026 was felt by many, so congratulations to everyone involved in bringing it back for 2027. “Collectively, the 28 events funded via these grants are expected to attract over 100,000 participants and spectators over the coming year.” Warrnambool RSL Sub-Branch will receive $12,000 to support Remembrance Day 2026 and ANZAC Day 2027. Other large community events to receive funding include the Warrnambool Multicultural Festival ($10,000), Warrnambool Show ($10,000), Surf ‘T’ Surf Fun Run/Walk ($9,990), Warrnambool Running Festival ($9,186), Warrnambool Rodeo ($7,000), the F Project’s Fabric of Life Festival ($6,500) and the Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Open ($6,000). A further 16 community, tourism and Christmas events will share almost $46,000, with individual grants ranging from $1,242 to $5,000. The types of birds currently impacted are crested terns, a single silver gull and a single magpie. So far there has been no H5 bird flu detections in poultry or livestock in Australia. Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales. The risk to human health of H5 bird flu remains low. According to the Agriculture Victoria website, overseas this strain has caused severe disease and high death rates in poultry, wild birds and other wildlife. Human cases are rare and the virus does not spread easily between people. People are encouraged to report sick or dead birds, or marine mammals, to the emergency animal disease hotline on 1800 675 888 but are also urged to stay clear and avoid direct contact.

THE much-anticipated Great Australian Pigeon Race may be postponed if the current suspension on pigeon racing extends beyond its anticipated August 21 re-start date. The Warrnambool Racing Pigeon Club is acting in compliance with the order of chief veterinary officer for Victoria Graeme Cooke which has seen the suspension of pigeon racing until 11.59pm on August 21 (unless officially revoked earlier by Dr Cooke). This order relates to all persons with poultry and birds in the southern section of Victoria – in wake of the detection of the globally circulating H5N1 HPAI (high-pathogenicity avian influenza). By early August, Victoria had recorded 53 positive cases in wild birds, including in the south west. Should the suspension on pigeon racing be extended passed August 21, the Great Australian Pigeon Race scheduled for August 30 will be rescheduled. The race will double as both a centenary celebration for the Warrnambool club and a fundraiser for South West Healthcare’s new prostate cancer detector system for the Warrnambool Base Hospital. It is hoped the community will get behind this inaugural event and sponsor the pigeons – and help raise the $115,000 needed for the detector system. In the interim, businesses and individuals across the district are encouraged to sponsor a pigeon prior to the August 30 cut-off.

Wannon Water seeks customer input WANNON Water is kicking off a community engagement program to hear what’s important to customers when it comes to their water and sewerage services. Managing director Steven Waterhouse invited customers to join in the conversation about helping find the right balance between price and service. “Every five years we prepare a price submission to the Essential Services Commission, spelling out our commitment to our customers,” Mr Waterhouse said. “We want as many people as possible to have input into the submission so that it truly reflects the needs of our customers, communities, and the environment. “By understanding local experiences and expectations we’ll be better able to deliver a plan that meets these needs when it comes to the supply of water and sewerage services and our contribution to the region.” According to Mr Waterhouse, climate change, growing customer expectations, new technology and economic pressures are all shaping the way Wannon Water delivers services. “We need to prepare for tomorrow while being fair to customers today,” he said. Topics that will be covered include managing water for the future, ensuring prices are fair, supporting customers in need, property development charges and digital metering. “Over the next six months there will be many ways that people can have their say with Wannon Water’s engagement team available at events and focus groups across the area,” Mr Waterhouse said. Wannon Water customers will have an opportunity to meet the engagement team at Warrnambool’s Multicultural Festival on Saturday, November 7. The team will also be holding targeted sessions with a range of community and business groups over the next few months. A warm night at Flagstaff Hill OPEN ﬁres, toasted marshmallows, warm hot chocolate and a cannon ﬁring – the action looks set to heat up at Flagstaff Hill tomorrow (Saturday). Flagstaff Hill’s popular Fire Night event returns this Saturday. The event brings together live music, winter comfort food and a festive atmosphere within a maritime village setting. The event runs from 5pm until 9.30pm, with the swivel gun “Thunderchild” to be fired on the wharf early in proceedings. Flagstaff Hill curator and experiences coordinator Kate Wake said she was looking forward to another fun event. “This is the fourth year we’ve been running Fire Night at Flagstaff Hill. It has always been a really lovely event. It’s great for families and very relaxing,” she said. “There will be a lot of great food, winter warming drinks, it’s just a great opportunity to grab your family and friends, toast a marshmallow, have a hot chocolate, grab a drink at the bar or some nice hot food from one of our food vans. “It’s always different to come here at night time. We’ll be putting up some nice lights and illuminating the space, so it looks very beautiful at night time.” She said that as other popular winter events such as Solstice Search Party demonstrate, people are willing to embrace the elements and enjoy winter events in Warrnambool.

Grace, Henry and William Saker are looking forward to more marshmallows. “People in Warrnambool, if it’s raining they will still go out, if it’s cold they will rug up and enjoy the outdoors,” she said. “It’s really great to have the space activated even when it’s a bit chillier. You can put on a warm coat, stand next to a warm fire and still have fun.”

Local projects share $140,000 FROM billiard tables and biodiversity research to a Beauty and the Beast production, 35 community projects will share more than $141,000 through Warrnambool City Council’s 2026-27 Community Development Fund. At its August meeting, Warrnambool City Council endorsed over $141,000 in grants for projects led by local clubs, organisations and groups. Running since 1999, the fund supports projects across creative activities, environment and sustainability, health and wellbeing, sport and recreation, and minor capital works. Warrnambool mayor Cr Ben Blain said he looked forward each year to seeing the projects put forward for funding. “It’s always great to see the creative and innovative ways so many different groups are able to use this funding,” he said. “The funding requirements are left deliberately broad because we know that local groups know what will have the most impact. “This year we have funded a really wide range of practical projects that will help groups purchase equipment, improve facilities, run programs and make it easier for more people to get involved in community life. “Many of these organisations rely heavily on volunteers, and this funding is one way council can support the work they do across Warrnambool.” Successful projects include the Find Your Voice Collective’s accessible orchestra, aquatic biodiversity research, party packs for hire through the Warrnambool Toy Library, new sporting equipment, environmental projects and programs encouraging greater participation among women, girls and young people. Other projects will support local performances, mental health and wellbeing initiatives, improvements to community facilities and new opportunities for people to take part in sport, recreation and creative activities. Field day highlights shelter beneﬁts A FIELD day in Panmure earlier this month gave an insight into how farmers can effectively manage dairy shelters and compost barns in the local environment. An Australian-first research project into shelters and compost barns has led to a wide range of benefits. PhD candidate Andrew Lean spoke with participants at the August 3 field day, and highlighted how more farmers were now turning to compost barns and open-sided, clearroofed, deep-litter shelters. As part of his research into optimising intensive dairy production in Australia, Mr Lean spent 15 weeks visiting compost barns measuring bedding temperatures, moisture levels and carbon to nitrogen ratios. He said the shelters not only benefit cows, they also help to protect paddocks and laneways. “They are important additions to farm infrastructure,” he said. “If you have a shelter, you’re going to get a lot of benefits in terms of cow management, laneway management because the cows are only entering pasture once a day, and you don’t pug paddocks and destroy grass. “They’re not just for giving cows somewhere warm and clean to lie, you also get benefits that may not be so obvious.” Mr Lean, from Scibus and Charles Sturt University, said his research was promoted by the increase in shelters and compost barns across Australia. “We need to understand them in an Australian context,” he said. “There is a lot of American and European research but we have very different systems.” Mr Lean said both fullystocked compost barns and partially stocked open-sided, clear-roofed, deep-litter shelters could have huge benefits to farms. “With the clear-roof system, you get a benefit in terms of drying on the surface,” he said. “If you can increase the temperature in your

environment, which these clear-spanned roofs do, you get a definite benefit in terms of drying the bedding and increasing the bedding temperature. “These systems are well suited to colder, wetter environments in southern Australia though they can also be modified with shade and cooling to be suitable for summer in hotter climates. There is good natural airflow in these sheds.” Mr Lean said the key to good management was to remember this was cow bedding, not compost. “If you get too obsessed with just managing it as compost, you can fall into traps of looking at temperature instead of just making sure it is dry enough,” he said. “You have to stop moisture entering the pack and keep the moisture below 55 per cent year-round so the bedding doesn’t stick to the cows. “This will decrease the risk of mastitis developing, it’s better for cow comfort and will stop them becoming dirty and you will get the best welfare and production benefits.” At the field day, Mr Lean demonstrated a ball test that farmers could use to measure moisture. He said the bedding must be cultivated. “You have to turn it regularly and don’t rush the process because increased cultivating time increases bedding temperature,” he said. Farmers need to rip the flooring deep enough with a chisel plough to bring the bedding to the surface and allow the airflow to remove moisture, and then use a rotor tiller to break up clumps in the bedding. Mr Lean said farmers were getting much better at managing shelters. “When I started the PhD, there was still a lot of trial and error. Over the past four or five years, in general there has been a massive jump in management quality and it keeps getting better and better.” More than 50 people attended the field day at the Panmure farm of Simon and Pip Rea, which is home to several Dairy Shelters Australia shelters.

Having trouble with your bills? ARE you struggling to pay your bills and in need of some practical advice and information? Warrnambool Neighbourhood and Community Centre will be holding a ‘bring your bills day’ on Friday, August 21 from 10am-1pm. According to centre manager Katrina Carrod, support will be available for bills, Centrelink, rent and housing, fines, loans and debts. “While we can’t pay bills for you, we can help find support, concessions, payment options and services,” Ms Carrod said. “There will be no cost to attend, and no bookings required, people can just come along with their paperwork and we will see them in order of arrival.” Representatives will be on hand from The Salvation Army, St Vncent De Paul, Victoria Legal Aid, Meli, Beyond Bank, Centrelink, Wannon Water and Warrnambool City Council. Teen hopes to make history

A WARRNAMBOOL teenager has set her sights on becoming the state’s youngest Member of Parliament, believing the major parties have overlooked the region for far too long.

Hera Sheppard, 18, is Victoria’s youngest election candidate after she received preselection from the Victorian Socialists to run for the seat of South West Coast this November. Securing a win at the polls would create history, with former premier Jacinta Allan being Victoria’s youngest female to be elected as a Member of Parliament at the age of 25. Ms Sheppard said she was running as she believes in a society that’s more sustainable, more equitable, and more just than the capitalist system of today. “I am running in this year’s state election because workers everywhere deserve a party that fights for them, not for their corporate donors,” she said. “No party in parliament is genuinely on the workers’ side. Among the leading issues for Ms Sheppard is the public housing system, which she said she had lived in for most of her life, watching as the state government sold off houses to the private system while letting the remaining houses remain empty and fall to ruin despite rising waiting lists. Another point of concern for Ms Sheppard is the beleaguered V/Line services on the Warrnambool Line.

She said the line represents the epitome of what’s wrong with the system, with cuts under the Liberals making services among the state’s most expensive, while Labor’s one-size-fits-all approach has failed to make services fit for purpose. Ms Sheppard cited the Victorian Socialists plan to work towards upgrading the Warrnambool Line to 160km/h, which would drastically reduce travel times and increase safety, as an example of what could be achieved in the south west. The district has been a Liberal stronghold since forming in 2002, with Denis Napthine being the sitting member until his 2015 resignation. Liberal Roma Britnell was voted in at the 2015 by-election in dominant fashion and continues to be the sitting member to this day. At the previous election, Ms Britnell secured 42.9 per cent of votes in a swing of 8.5 per cent – securing a 58 per cent victory over Labor’s Kylie Gaston. While the prospect of victory is a tall task, Ms Sheppard said both major parties have overlooked the South West Coast as Labor knows they can’t win the seat and the Liberals know they won’t lose it. “As residents of an incredibly safe Liberal seat, I think it’s important that we have a candidate to represent a working class left, rather than the Labor Party or the Greens, who fail to put workers first,” she said. “If elected in November, I’ll fight to ensure that workers are given the future we deserve.”

At Mortlake agents yarded 1,412 head an increase of Bullocks sold to a top of 490c while grown steers reached 486c and crossbred steers topped at 468c/kg. 342 head on the previous sale. Quality was again mixed reflecting a typical winter yarding with cows accounting for more than half of the offering. The yarding comprised 237 bullocks, 345 trade cattle, 770 cows and 60 grown bulls. The cow offering consisted of approximately 33% beef cows with the balance being dairy-bred. Most of the regular buyers were in attendance and while not all operated fully, competition remained solid particularly from feeder buyers. Due to the mixed quality on offer the market generally softened by 10 to 15c/kg across the trade and bullock categories with the majority of these cattle purchased by feeders. Heavy beef and dairy cows generally remained firm although very light dairy cows eased by up to 10c/kg in places. In a plainer yarding of bulls prices remained firm overall.

Grown heifers sold from 430cto 488c while dairy-bred manufacturing steers made up to 415c/kg. Better quality trade cattle ranged from 490c to 520c with feeders paying up to 518c/kg. Heavy beef cows sold from 395c to 434c while medium weight beef cows made between 360c and 390c/kg. Better covered dairy cows ranged from 355c to 406c while beef cows purchased to return to the paddock reached 392c/ kg. Hamilton Agents yarded 1,600 lambs this week 800 Trade lambs averaged between 1030c and 1200c/kg cwt fewer than last week’s offering along with 700 sheep with the market topping at $400/head. Light lambs weighing 12 to 16kg sold from $130 to $176 down 120 head on the previous sale. It was a very small lamb offering with the better end consisting mainly of supplementary-fed lambs predominantly medium weights along with some heavier trade lambs and a few quality lightweight trade lambs. Quality declined throughout the yarding with a portion of plainer lambs also presented. Most of the regular buying group was in attendance however, some buyers were not operating fully. Heavy lambs improved by $10 to $20/head while most trade lambs remained unchanged. Very few lambs were purchased to return to feed resulting in these lambs easing by up to $20/head.

Junior finals continue

SOUTH Warrnambool’s under 16 footballers have won through The Eagles will now face Camperdown in this Saturday’s preliminary final after to the 2026 Hampden League grand final, defeating North the Magpies defeated Warrnambool by just four points in the semi-final. The Roosters will also contest the under 14 grand final after defeating the Blues Warrnambool last weekend. by 22 points last Sunday. The Roosters are through to the big day after a 34-point win over the Eagles, They will now await the winner of this Saturday’s preliminary final between the 8.4.52 to 2.6.18. Blues and Hamilton.

Race to finals is on SEVEN teams remain in the hunt for a finals berth after the penultimate round of the Warrnambool and District senior football competition on Saturday. At the Walter Oval, Kolora-Noorat upset finals hopeful South Rovers with a 15.8.98 to 10.8.68 win. Caleb Kavanagh, Nick Castersen and Oscar Ritchie were best for the Power in their third win of the season, with Ritchie bagging six goals. For South Rovers, Sandy Robinson, Kurt Lenehan and Dylan McCutcheon were best, with Robinson kicking four goals. At the Mack Oval, Russells Creek scored a 12.12.84 to 8.5.53 win over Timboon. Dylan Shircore, Andrew McMeel and Kyle Moloney were the Kangaroos best in the win, with Lochie Chadderton kicking three goals. Bayley Thompson, Lyndon Alsop and Sam Thompson were best for the Demons, with Martin Angus kicking three goals.

At Panmure, Nirranda scored a 15.11.101 to 7.12.54 win over the home team. Brendan Richardson, Dylan Parish and Mathew Lloyd were best for the Blues, with Parish kicking seven goals. For Panmure Michael Boyd, Zeke Reeves and Nathan Pratt were best, with Lachlan McLeod and Nicholas Kemp kicking two goals each. At Davidson Oval, top of the ladder Allansford had to work hard for its 13.9.87 to 11.7.73 win over Old Collegians. For Allansford, Robbie Hare kicked five goals, with Zavier Mungean, Jonah Maher and Bradley Edge best. Jacob Brooks, Will McConnell and Paul Campbell were best for the Warriors, with Jake Dowell kicking four goals. Merrivale had the bye. The top four teams are all locked in, with Old Collegians, South Rovers and Merrivale all on 20 points and fighting for fifth spot. In the A grade netball, Allansford had a 57-50 win over Old Collegians. Jessica Rohan, Lisa Pender and Emma Stacey were best for the Cats, with Rohan shooting 40 goals and Lilly

Best for Panmure were Chloe McKenzie, Sophie Melican and Sienna Wickenton, with Wickenton and Steph Bant shooting 11 goals each. Kolora-Noorat shored up fifth place with a strong 72-32 win over South Rovers. Emily Forrest, Ailish Glennen and Tara Elliott were best for the Power in the win, with Elliott shooting 47 goals and Forrest 18. For South Rovers, Georgia White, Ashlee Pavletich and Renae Mauriks were best with Grace Mugavin shooting 15 goals. At Mack Oval, Russells Creek had a 48-33 win over Timboon.

Alice Cann, Ruby Evans and Jenna Cahill were best for Russells Creek, with Cahill shooting 24 goals. Best for the Demons were Bethany Hallyburton, Laura Rosolin and Taya Hanegraaf, with Brianna Gass shooting 17 goals. At Merrivale, the home team had a 107-11 win over Dennington. Best for the Tigers were Paiyton Noonan, Tahni Porter and Mia Mills, with Noonan shooting 71 goals and Chloe Lovell 35. Sophie Ryan, Charlotte Dumesny and Alice Peart were best for Dennington, with Charlotte Dumesny shooting five goals. Milestones for umpires ANOTHER two western district umpires celebrated special milestones recently.

Field umpire Anthony Smith officiated his 150th game when he took to the ground in the under 18.5 match between Warrnambool and District sides Merrivale and Dennington last Saturday. And in the league’s under 18.5 clash between Old Collegians and Allansford, boundary umpire Sharra McNaughton celebrated her 100th game.

Nearest the pins: 3rd Brett Holmes, 6th Ayden Bosse, 7th Brett Wilsher and 9th Craig Lee. Ross McLeod was the social winner. This Saturday will be digit day.

This week’s preliminary finals saw both Koroit teams featured; one with success and the other will remember their achievements for the season. In A grade, Koroit went down to minor premiers Warrnambool Warriors, while Tower Hill lives to fight the B grade grand final. Both grand finals will be played at the Orford Hall next Wednesday, August 19 from 7.30pm. All past and present players are welcome to attend – please take a plate to share. Presentation night will be held at the Kirkstall Hall on September 2 from 7pm. All welcome. A reminder that a final is over when a team wins six rubbers – the rest of the match isn’t played. Results from this week’s preliminary finals: A grade – Warrnambool Warriors defeated Koroit 6.20-3.10. With three of the rubbers extended and a few long games, this was not an easy win. Koroit’s Fergus Monsborough opened the night, winning 12-10, 11-5 and 12-10 over the Warriors’ David Cranwell. Peter Owen and Neil Ford (Warriors) won the first doubles against Fergus and Ray Young 5-11, 11-6, 11-8 and 12-10.

11-6, 11-7 and 11-7. Fergus defeated Peter in the highest scoring rubbers of the night 11-7, 11-9, 9-11 and 13-11. Fergus won two rubbers for the night, as did Peter Owen and Neil Ford for Warriors. B grade – Tower Hill defeated Broadwater 6.18-2.9. Tower Hill was able to win both the doubles to win this final. Both Darren Smith and Gavin Rowbottom (Tower Hill) won two singles rubbers. Gavin had a tussle with Broadwater’s Peter Drendel, finally winning in five 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8 and 11-7. Darren and Gavin combined to win the first doubles 11-4, 5-11, 11-3 and 11-4 against Andrea and Peter Drendel (Broadwater). Gavin teamed with David Rowbottom in the second doubles to win 11-7, 11-1 and 12-10 against Peter and Leah Drendel. Best for Broadwater was Peter and Andrea who each won a singles. Next week’s grand finals: A grade – St Helens v Warrnambool Warriors. Last year’s B grade winner St Helens (then named Myndarra) has seen a marked improvement in the young players which won them a place in this final.

first semi-final. St Helens will need to repeat the semifinal play to win this grand final. The Warriors’ David Cranwell, Neil Ford and Peter Owen will certainly have a different result in mind. They won both matches against St Helens during the year, finishing on top after losing only one match for the pennant season. The older, cooler heads of the Warriors might just have sway with less nerves than the St Helens team -but both are used to playing grand finals. Spectators can expect to see a close, high standard and entertaining A grade match. B grade – Orford v Tower Hill. Orford’s Russell Hussey has the ability to defeat both Darren Smith and Gavin Rowbottom (as he did in the first semi-final) and this may be the lynch pin to this match. Both Darren and Gavin had wins during the year; the other decider will be the doubles. Often winning the doubles wins the night. Tower Hill finished higher on the ladder, just missing A grade by seven games over the year, but Orford has come home strong at the right end of the season. This looks set to be another exciting grand final.

Bloods ruffle Eagles wings

WITH just two home and away rounds remaining, ladder leaders North Warrnambool had their wings ruffled last weekend, finishing the day level with visitors Terang Mortlake. The Bloods travelled to Bushfield determined to ruffle the undefeated Eagles last Saturday. The Bloods went in to the final term 36 points down but in a courageous comeback kicked seven majors in the final term while containing the Eagles to just one to finish 10.11.71 all on the final siren.

The draw was the first for the Eagles, currently sitting undefeated after 16 rounds of the Hampden League season. Best for the home side last weekend were Jackson Grundy, Luke Wines, Harry Keast, Adam Wines, Zac Everall and Baillie Keast. Charlie McKinnon kicked four majors for the day, with a goal each to Everall, Grundy, Tom Keast, Sebastian Shiells, Nathan Vardy and Lachlan Wines. In other round 16 matches, Koroit were big 69-point winners over Cobden, Portland easily accounted for Camperdown, the Roosters celebrated a 42-point win over Hamilton while the

Warrnambool Blues were big 90-point victors over Port Fairy. This weekend will see Cobden host Camperdown, the Roosters will be home to Portland, Koroit and Port Fairy will meet at Gardens Oval, the Bloods will host the Blues while the Eagles will travel to take on Hamilton. On the senior ladder, the Eagles remain three games clear of nearest rivals Terang Mortlake, with Koroit in third followed by Portland and Warrnambool. South Warrnambool remain just one game out of the top five with nine wins and seven losses to date.

In the Open grade netball, South Warrnambool continued its unblemished season with a big 102-32 win over Hamilton last Saturday. For the Roosters, Ally O’Connor, Meg Kelson and Emma Buwalda were named in the best, with Buwalda shooting 34 goals, Meg Carlin 45 and Darcy McFarlane 23. Other round 16 wins went to Koroit, Camperdown, Warrnambool and North Warrnambool. The Roosters sit two games clear of Koroit on the Open division ladder, with Port Fairy, Warrnambool and Cobden rounding out the top five.
