Major Tree Planting Project Gets the Green Light In just a few days, a major tree-planting project will kick off in the West End Theatre District. Forty new bare-root trees will be placed along the south side of Liberty Street between 17th and 20th streets., according to Mike Moore, Communications Manager for the City of Allentown. And it’s been a few years coming.
“We submitted four grant applications for tree-planting over the past three years,” says Stephen Rohrbach, President of the West End Alliance. “We were finally successful, and were awarded 20 new bare-root trees from Pennsylvania’s TreeVitalize grant program.” The City of Allentown was also

awarded a similar 20-tree grant, and is adding those trees to the current West End project, for the total of 40 new trees. The project will use a mix of two species of trees.
