To benefit Arc of Westchester

UnkaLarry * DAD * Grandpa You have been the ARC of our lives! For all your efforts on behalf of the Foundation Board, we are so proud of you and thank you for the solid foundation you have given us in life. You occupy a special place in our hearts.

All our love, Christopher, Sarah & Eamonn, Brigid & Patrick, Colin, Fiona Elizabeth, Neala Colette & Julia Bee

Dear Friends and Fellow Parents, Thank you for joining us at A Matter of Taste—the Arc of Westchester Foundation’s signature fundraising event. Each year generous supporters like you make it bigger and better—helping to ensure that the Arc of Westchester can continue to provide innovative and comprehensive services to thousands of people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work.” For the past two years, I have had the pleasure of co-chairing the event with Peter Herrero, Jr. In addition to Peter and our energetic volunteer committee, I would like to thank Nancy Patota, our Executive Director; as well as Fran Higgins, Elyse Fowler, Regina Moore and Juliet Adamo— extraordinary staff members who give it their all. Tonight’s honorees are truly special. Larry McNaughton, whom I recently succeeded as Foundation President, has made a positive and lasting impact through his deep involvement over many years. He personifies what makes the Arc of Westchester so special: open hearts, open arms, and open minds. Our Youth Partner Honorees, Origami Wish, are teens who are hard at work making the world a better place for the people we serve. From generation to generation: how fortunate we are! What we ask of you tonight is simple: eat, drink, and be merry. Allow yourself to be moved and to solidify your connection to this wonderful organization. As we journey forward with our Arc of a Life comprehensive funding campaign, we hope you will continue to travel with us. With deepest gratitude,

Elaine Masket

President Arc of Westchester Foundation 2014 A Matter of Taste

Welcome On behalf of the Arc of Westchester Foundation, my co-chair Elaine Masket, and the event committee, welcome to another lively and delicious evening – A Matter of Taste! Thank you for coming tonight and for bringing your friends and family. Your support of this event makes a significant difference in the lives of the 2,000 individuals in Westchester County with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by Arc of Westchester every day. A Matter of Taste is designed for you to enjoy some of the best food and beverages from Westchester in one of the most beautiful settings the County has to offer. When you purchase tickets, fabulous silent and live auction items, and corks from our exciting wine pull, you become a member of the Arc of Westchester family and enable it to stay innovative, caring and professional. A special thank you and welcome back to our returning chefs, including some who have been with us since the start of this event 11 years ago. And to those chefs who are new to the event, welcome aboard! Thank you also to Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, returning as our wine and beverage sponsor. Enjoy your evening reminiscing with old friends, making memories with new ones, congratulating our honorees and knowing that your dedication and support tonight, as well as throughout the year, are greatly appreciated. Thank you and bon appÊtit!

Arc of Westchester

Dear Friends, Thank you for joining us at the 11th annual A Matter of Taste at the beautiful Westchester Country Club. Each year, this important fundraising event brings together 350 members of the Arc of Westchester family to raise funds for critically needed programs and services for more than 2,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Because of you, and all of our other generous supporters, A Matter of Taste has raised over $1.25 million in the past 10 years. Thank you for your enduring commitment. Tonight we honor Larry McNaughton for the many remarkable contributions he has made to the Arc of Westchester and the Origami Wish youth group for their dedication to bringing hope and making wishes come true for people with developmental disabilities. As we approach the end of the year, we are thankful for the successes that we see every day at the Arc of Westchester. Let’s continue to be as generous as possible so that the people we are privileged to serve can continue to achieve with us. Many thanks,

Bernard A. Krooks, Esq. President Arc of Westchester

Lifetime Achievement Award

Larry McNaughton Larry McNaughton began his relationship with the Arc of Westchester 10 years ago when he became a trustee for the Foundation’s supplemental needs trusts. When recently asked to describe his first visits to the Arc of Westchester, Larry said, “I found a caring community of people who were working together to build opportunities and most of all, I felt a great deal of love being shared.” With no prior connection to the Arc, Larry saw a need and knew he wanted to help. The Arc of Westchester quickly benefited from Larry’s 30+ years of professional experience with strategic planning, market research and advertising and his common-sense approach to the creativity of communications. Larry’s energy, creativity and contagious enthusiasm for the Arc of Westchester led him to an expanded role as a member of the Foundation Board, and for the last 6 years as President, he has successfully encouraged people of like-mission to join the Board. He played an integral part in the extraordinary success of the capital campaign to build The Gleeson-Israel Gateway Center; a building described as a place for launching dreams shaped by individual choice. Larry often speaks about every life being precious and every person deserving a fair chance. As a key architect of the Arc of a Life Campaign, Larry was guided by that simple principle. To quote Larry, “If you see a need, you show up. And if you have any means at all, you give. Our campaign addresses exactly that as the Arc of Westchester prepares to meet coming challenges – it is a wonderful time to show up and give.” Although he and his wife Angela recently moved to Colorado to be near their children, Larry will continue to be a strong ambassador for the Arc of Westchester. Larry says, “The Arc of Westchester occupies both a physical space, as well as a place in the heart.” We are honored to present Larry McNaughton with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Youth Partner Award

Origami Wish Legend has it that origami cranes bring hope and make wishes come true. We, Origami Wish, are a group of students who create and sell origami cranes to bring this legend to life. Our connection to Arc of Westchester began in 2011 when we fundraised for the victims of the Great Tohoku Earthquake in Japan by selling origami cranes. We met many generous and kind people who helped us donate new books for the library located in the heart of the disaster area. As a way to give back to our supportive community, and because some of our classmates have disabilities, we decided to become involved with Arc of Westchester. Since teaming up with this wonderful organization, we have sold products ranging from origami crane mobiles to gift cards at Arc of Westchester events, and most recently at the Harrison Sakura Festival. In addition to selling the cranes, we have introduced Arc of Westchester to the public by talking to people and handing out informational brochures. We hope that our efforts will enrich the lives of children, teenagers, and adults with developmental disabilities, bring hope, and make their wishes come true. We are very honored to receive the Youth Partnership Award.

Dear Friends, It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 11th annual A Matter of Taste. We hope you have a great time and that you come away even more inspired by the work done each day at the Arc of Westchester to provide opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our Westchester communities. For more than 65 years, Arc of Westchester has dedicated itself to making a difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and families who struggle every day with the enormous impact that intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism and Down syndrome, has on their daily lives. Unfortunately, while the population we serve continues to increase ever more rapidly, significant cuts in government funding make it ever more difficult to provide the quality programs and services for which we are known. The Arc of a Life Campaign is designed to enable the agency to meet these challenges and support those in Westchester County who are among the most vulnerable. We are very proud to serve as Co-Chairs of this important campaign and we are confident that your gift will be used effectively by Arc of Westchester. To meet, take a tour, or request more information regarding The Arc of a Life Campaign, please call Nancy Patota, Executive Director of the Arc Westchester Foundation, at (914) 495-4625, or e-mail her at npatota@arcwestchester.org. Again, thank you for supporting Arc of Westchester. Sincerely,
