Burton Sundberg

I was drafted into the Service on 8/29/1945 as a recent graduate of Klamath Union High School, Klamath Falls, OR in June 1945. In the meantime my parents moved back to Isanti, Minnesota, so upon my discharge from the Army my home became Isanti. After receiving a degree in Library Science from the U of MN, I came to Willmar to direct the formation of the Pioneerland Library System, which is still in operation, with the Willmar Library as the HQ.

My Army career was different, in that my weapon was a typewriter, working in the 9th Division Finance Corps, in Augsburg, Germany, until being sent back to the States for discharge.

In addition, I was the youngest of 4 brothers in the service during WWII. The oldest was Alex Sundberg, who was part of a crew of a B26 bomber that was gunned down over Holland and instantly killed. My other two brothers served in the Pacific Theatre and came home safely.
