The Austin Plastic Surgery Foundation hosted their 36th Annual Wish Upon a Smile Gala on Saturday, November 5th at the Oasis on Lake Travis. Over 350 attendees enjoyed a night of philanthropy, friendship, dancing, and fun all in support of Austin Smiles. This annual event raises critical funds for their lifechanging mission of providing surgical and post-surgical services to children born with cleft lip and palate both in Central Texas and Latin America.
The event was made possible by Gala Co-chairs Patrice Emrie and Michelle Mattina who worked alongside the Wish Upon a Smile gala planning committee to host an incredible night of celebration with record-breaking proceeds, bringing in close to $450,000 for Austin Smiles mission. Guests enjoyed the best sunset in Austin, dinner and open bar, a live auction and a special performance by Austin’s own Tomar and the FC’s.
At the event, Austin Smiles recognized two very special people. Outstanding philanthropic leaders Jamie Barshop and Beau Theriot, owner of the Oasis on Lake Travis, were honored with the fourth annual Cullington, Fox, Beckham International Service Award. This distinguished award honors the legacy and leadership of individuals who have inspired others to get involved and give back to Austin Smiles mission.

One in 700 children is born with a cleft lip and/or palate. This condition impacts the child’s ability to communicate, reach developmental milestones, receive proper nourishment, and their overall quality of life. Each year the team takes 2-3 medical mission trips to Latin America where they perform over 50 life changing surgeries and offer postsurgical support, dental services, and speech therapy to close to 150 children. In Central Texas, Austin Smiles provides social and emotional programming, speech therapy, patient advocacy, and other supports to over 800 patients. All of Austin Smiles services are provided free of charge, empowering children and their families with the ability to heal both physically and emotionally.
