When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully,

everyone is blessed. — Maya Angelou

Dear Wesley Community, On behalf of my colleagues, let me please assure you that we are indeed blessed — and we are very grateful for what you have so cheerfully and graciously given. There are facts, data, and demonstrable applications to be considered when one absorbs the impact of philanthropy, and those reference points are undeniably important. However, the feeling and the intangible aspects of the whole that the proceeds of our annual fund and other advancement efforts provide are every bit as meaningful, if not more so, in making us who we are. To be succinct, let me simply express that we are tremendously thankful for what our community provided us in the 2024-2025 school year so that we could take the steps we hoped for — and promised — in our effort to join the shall number of great schools that are always “becoming.” The incredible generosity demonstrated by the gifts that so many of you provided for our school, encouraged and ultimately curated by the remarkable efforts of Tammy Rodriguez, Kevin Elbo, Jenny Hollier, and our Development Committee volunteers, party book hosts, and numerous other contributors to our advancement efforts, have a very real impact on our student and professional experience. It is very important to remember that the manner in which our Wesley children, faculty and staff experience our mission is dependent on resources just as it is related to intentionality. The guidance afforded us by the five pawprints of the Strategic Plan provides the destination and the inspiration to undertake the journey, but the way itself can only be nourished by tangible support. That support appears in the form of additional curricular resources and experiential learning opportunities; as professional development activities to expand the toolkits of our educators; as new social-emotional methods and programs, by allowing us to add critical teaching and administrative positions to elevate our professional community, and by providing new elective and extension activities for the ever-expanding interests of our middle school students. These are by no means exhaustive examples. Wesley, like any independent school, literally depends on philanthropy for its very existence, let alone its excellence. In 2024-2025, we exceeded every advancement goal. In most cases, we established all-time benchmarks. That reflects our community’s commitment to support what we believe so strongly about Wesley: that it is a singular place for children to be seen, heard, known, and nurtured. This is about the generosity of our families and the expertise and effort of our advancement staff and volunteers. It is about our shared vision for what we hope for in the lives of our children. This tangible representation of our community’s appreciation for where we are and also where we hope to go is much appreciated. On behalf of my colleagues and with the utmost humility, I thank you!

With gratitude, Greg Armbrister head of school

The Wesley Board of Trustees: Partnering in Purpose, Powering Our Future This past year, the Board of Trustees turned the page and began writing a new and exciting chapter for The Wesley School. Having successfully guided our community through a pivotal period of change and growth, we were able to climb to a higher altitude — one with a much better view — and focus on strategic work that will safeguard both the present and future of our beloved institution. We established a stronger framework for data-driven decision-making, oversaw the rollout of our strategic plan, and, perhaps most importantly, built a strong and collaborative partnership with our new Head of School, Greg Armbrister. Strategic thinking is a muscle — it doesn’t grow by accident. This year, the Board made time in our meeting schedule to flex that muscle. We engaged deeply with the strategic plan through exercises that asked us to reflect on the kind of students we graduate, the long-term health of our finances, and how Wesley’s brand reflects our mission. We revised our meeting structure to prioritize strategic conversation and created guardrails to keep us out of the daily operational lanes where our talented leadership team does its best work. We also put in place better processes for gathering and analyzing data around finance and enrollment — because even the best instincts are stronger when backed by good information. Having completed strategic planning in June 2024, the 2024–25 school year became all about sharing the plan with our community. Together with Greg and the Senior Leadership Team, we debuted the Strategic Plan at the annual State of the School, introducing a shared vision for our future and the roadmap to get there. The five Wesley Pawprints went live on our website, on social media, and in Greg’s series of coffees — each dedicated to one Pawprint — so families could engage, ask questions, and join the conversation. Looking ahead, the Board is eager to see Greg and his team continue to bring this plan to life for our current and future students. We also knew that supporting Greg in his inaugural year as our new Head of School was essential. The Board worked side-by-side with him to set mission-aligned goals with clear performance metrics and met regularly to ensure he had the feedback, encouragement, and space to lead with confidence. Because of this intentional scaffolding, Greg quickly found his rhythm with the Board, enabling him and his team to push forward on programmatic expansion that has already brought tangible benefits to our students. It was a full and productive year for the Board. But the outcome is clear: Wesley is not simply a school that adapts to the future — it’s a school that helps shape it. We are a destination for families who value critical, creative, and compassionate thinking. We are a learning community where students are known, challenged, and inspired to become their best selves. And we are only getting stronger. So yes — it’s a great time to be a Wesley Lion. As we look ahead, we invite our community to stay engaged — attend upcoming events, join the conversation, and share in the excitement of shaping Wesley’s next chapter.

Warmly,

The Wesley Board of Trustees

A Note from the

Development Chair As I reflect back on this past year, there is so much forward energy as Wesley prepares to head into its 27th chapter. With new leadership and programs implemented, a new sense of momentum for the school could be felt from the student level all the way up to the Board of Trustees. To kick the year off, the Development team sent out a community wide survey. The information we received back was instrumental in helping to fine tune our events, messaging, and crafting opportunities for families to engage with the school and maximize their impact when giving financially. The fundraiser that offers the greatest impact for the school is our Annual Fund – as money raised in this campaign is used to offset deficits that tuition alone will not cover. The school depends on this collective generosity to continue current programs and offerings as well as supplementing any additional costs we need through the year. Two years ago we decided to pivot from our traditional approach, “100% participation in 100 days,” to a truncated time frame. So in honor of it being Wesley’s 25th birthday, we thought a good challenge would be to shorten the window to 25 days. Not only did we have a higher giving amount, but we had 100% community participation! So 8

needless to say, we immediately adopted this new approach last year as well. We also decided to shift the Annual Fund kickoff from late fall/early winter, to a few weeks after the school year began. AND since families rose to the occasion within 25 days, we thought, why not try to see if we can achieve 100% in 20 days! By pushing the start of the fund to September, we were able to promote it during vital community events such as the first PA meeting, Back to School nights, and grade level parent only potlucks. Our goal last year was $400,000, but we were blown away as we raised over $515,000. In setting the goal this year, we were a little modest, knowing that we had an even shorter time to fundraise. We set our goal at $500,000 and the community surpassed our expectation yet again and helped us raise close to $550,000. All of this amazing support couldn’t have been possible without the help of our grade level Development Committee reps. They work as liaisons between the Development office and their classes. Not only do they answer any and all questions about the fund and remind families to donate, but they do it all while being constant cheerleaders for the school. We know what a vital role they play and wanted to extend a huge thank you to:

Jen Saxton Kindergarten Representative (Charlotte Kindergarten) Ethan Applen 1st Grade Representative (Alexander 1st) Greg Rikaart 2nd Grade Representative (Montgomery 2nd) Tania Tang 3rd Grade Representative (Colin 1st, Owen 3rd) Rachael Campanella 4th Grade Representative (Gia 1st, Cora 4th) Luz Herrera-Olaya 5th Grade Representative (Mark 5th) Larry Sullivan 6th Grade Representative (Cooper 6th) Kari Hobson 7th Grade Representative (Sydney 7th) Janett Meyer 8th Grade Representative (Emma 7th, Nathan 8th) Our next major event is a student favorite — Teacher Outings. What is so important about this fundraiser is that every faculty and staff member participates through donating their time. Whether it’s a cheeseburger with your favorite math teacher or goat yoga on the field, these activities never disappoint. Our goal was to generate $30,000, and I’m happy to say we surpassed that!

After the new year we also held our annual Run-For-A Cause. Every year we pick an organization in an effort for the students to form a closer connection to the charity they’re being asked to support. This year, it was an organization very close to home. Los Angeles was hit with horrible fires for weeks causing damage to a number of schools. The funds our kids gathered, allowed them to both support Wesley by funding new awnings on campus and also for families that were displaced and needed financial assistance. We’re happy to report that 100% of the proceeds went back to bettering the members in our own community. Rolling right into Spring, Wesley held its Second Annual Golf Tournament. Parents and faculty joined us for an afternoon out on the green. This year, we had our first ever alumni team join in the festivities and these high school freshmen definitely gave the adults a run for their money! All families of golfers and any others that just wanted to come hangout, were welcomed to join us for bbq, drinks, bounce houses, raffles – and a nail-biting putting competition. Not only was it a great chance for our community to get together, but the event raised enough money to get brand new sports equipment, nets, and much more for our athletic department. Also in the Spring we had one of our best attended events. Lights, Camera, Block Party time! A few years back, we switched to a model of having a major Gala every other year and in the off years, we put on a lower scale block party. We

realized our community likes to be together, so why not provide them that opportunity. We were fortunate enough to hold ours this year on the Radford Backlot to the theme of Wesley in the City. The Wesley folk showed up in their best New York City attire and rocked into the night. Between ticket sales, an auction, and raising the paddle, the night brought in over $82,000 – which was $8,000 more than what was raised at last year’s 25th Anniversary Gala and $54,000 more than our first Block Party in 2023! This year’s funds went to replacing the much needed turf. And no Development Chair report would be complete if I didn’t give a major shout out to the Development Director, Tammy Rodriguez, and her associate, Kevin Elbo. They have yet again set goals higher from the previous year and not only have met them, but surpassed them. They deserve much praise for constantly finding new and creative ways to engage the entire community. Lastly, with humble gratitude, we want to thank you all one more time for showing up and donating not only money, but your time and endless support. You make this school continue to grow and evolve, while still making it the unique place we all love and cherish. You all are what make the school great.

A Note from the

Program Heads We learned a lot during our first year here at Wesley! We worked hard on aligning practices across and between our respective programs, and used the Strategic Plan as our north star. We moved the needle in some key areas: Student-Centered Sense of Belonging: We had regular community-building morning meetings in the Lower School, emphasizing shared language around mindfulness-based SEL and restorative approaches. The middle school’s Advisory Committee has been developing a new advisory curriculum which will further the ways we nurture our young people through this period of tremendous self-discovery and cultivate essential problem-solving skills, selfawareness, independence, and self-advocacy. We also piloted a belonging survey which students will continue to take at regular intervals as we work to better monitor whether or not all of our students are experiencing our mission, and are developing strong relationships with caring adults, as well as healthy relationships with their peers. By continuing to expand upon our offerings within our middle school elective block, and bringing in new faculty to teach courses in coding and robotics, music, and musical theater, we’ve ensured that the diverse range of assets and passions that our students bring to our campus will be serviced, and that they’ll continue to find offerings that connect to their developing sense of self. SEL and Social Justice: Our continued work with the school’s DEIB Consultant, Monique, helped us to locate social identifiers in our curriculum, preparing us for further integration into the curriculum. The Lower School (K-4) continued to use the school mission as a home-base with developing more shared language around SEL practices. A shared approach to mediation, the ‘Peace Ladder’, has also been established in K-4. Students in Kindergarten were even starting to use it on their own :) The middle school team has continued to redefine middle school-appropriate ways to further students’ SEL development and leadership capacity, including through a new student-led conference cycle allows for students to improve their metacognition through engaging in self-reflection, seeking feedback, and setting goals, as well as through how our team works collaboratively with our School Counselor to develop practices and approaches to working with our young people that facilitates meaningful growth and learning. Teacher Development: Through classroom observations and 1 on 1 coaching, the Program Department began the relational work to retain and grow faculty who align with whole child development. This work is ongoing and will continue next school year. We are just getting started and look forward to a deeper dive into the Strategic Plan and bringing The Wesley School mission to life! Krysten Fort-Catanese, head of lower school Jeff Baird, head of middle school 17

If there’s one thing that we’ve learned, it’s that the Wesley community knows how to have a good time! On Saturday, April 26th, we gathered under the stars for a night out in the Big Apple as we took on New York Street at the CBS Radford Studio Lot for Wesley and the City’s Block Party! From all of the incredible food stations to the NYC vibe outfits, getting down on the dance floor and even a few karaoke moments…we were instantly reminded of what being part of the Wesley community is all about! The Block Party, Online Auction, Live Auction, and Raise the Paddle fundraising were a true success and it was all because of YOU! We send our deepest appreciation and sincerest gratitude to each and every one of you that were able to participate in one way or another. Collectively, we raised over $80,000 during our Raise the Paddle, which allowed us to replace our Turf Field and help provide a safer and cleaner area for all of our students to play. Not only did the replacement enhance the safety of our field, it also ensured that shedding of the grass doesn’t happen on all of the uniforms! Thank you again for supporting our students and bettering the Wesley experience for current and future Lions to come! It truly makes a difference. A Note from the

Parents’ Association Co-Chairs The 2024-2025 school year was a busy and wonderful year for the Wesley Parents’ Association! Heading into the year, our goals were simple: to amplify the community service work our community already did with new, more regular opportunities; creatively engage and connect the Wesley community with a focus on getting new families involved; raise funds to support Teacher Appreciation Week, grade-level year-end parties, and school-wide events; and partner with CODI in hopes that all parents and guardians feel they can get involved. Once again, our community showed up this year! A sincere thank you to our Room Parent Coordinator, Room Parents, Standing Committee Chairs, Event Chairs, and volunteers who made this year an astounding success! We appreciate each and every one of you, including those who may not have been able to volunteer, but still brought smiles and energy to school events! Without the support and engagement of our entire community, we simply could not accomplish so much. Our new community service program, Service Sunday, was an astounding success and helped contribute to Wesley’s mission of creating “compassionate learners.” Our very first event had over 100 attendees who made more than 500 lunches for The Hollywood Food Coalition to help combat food insecurity in our local community. Following that event, our community: • Created 300 hygiene kits for the LA Food Bank • Spread holiday cheer singing at two local retirement homes • Made over 800 lunches for first responders during the devastating LA fires • Partnered with CODI to support Big Sunday’s Annual MLK Clothing Drive and Day of Service • Supported the Ronald McDonald House Charities’ Walk for Kids • Made school supply kits for the Foster Children’s Resource Center in Northridge We look forward to continuing this important work next year under a new name: Wesley Helping Hands. This year, we prioritized connection, especially with new families. From the First Day of School Celebration to our Family Picnic, from Campus Trick-Or-Treating to the Multicultural Festival and our beloved Wesley Palooza, we saw new friendships blossom, diversity celebrated, and a continued sense of community pride. Whether you chaired an event, hosted a Party Book FUNdraiser, or simply brought your enthusiasm, you helped further solidify the warm, inclusive culture we’re so proud of at Wesley. Through Party Book events, the Holiday Boutique, Uniform Recycle Sale, and Wesley Rewards, the Parents’ Association raised essential funds to support school-wide events, an incredible faculty and staff Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, and joyful year-end celebrations for each grade. Surplus funds were donated to the school’s Annual Fund, extending our collective impact beyond this year and into the future of Wesley. As we close out the school year, we’re excited to welcome our new Co-Chair, Hannah Campbell-Anderson, who will bring fresh energy and perspective to the role. We look forward to partnering with Hannah and passing the baton at the end of next school year. Thank you, Wesley Family, for an extraordinary year. Coming Together for Los Angeles Running together in a community of belonging, we stride forward to nurture joyful, confident learners—encouraging all of them to think critically, creatively, and compassionately every step of the way. On January 31, 2025, the Wesley campus came alive with vibrant energy and heartfelt purpose as the school community gathered for its annual Run for a Cause. This year’s event had a deeply personal focus: rallying around families and individuals impacted by the recent, destructive fires across Los Angeles. Beyond the cheerful atmosphere and camaraderie, there was a strong sense of mission in every stride. Participants were motivated not just by the fun of the jogathon, but by the knowledge that their efforts would translate into critical support for both the Wesley family and the wider LA community. The event was a resounding success, underscoring the true strength of the Wesley community. Thanks to your donations, volunteer hours, and encouragement, we successfully reached our goal to raise over $30,000 to support Wesley community members impacted by the fires, repair campus damage due to extreme winds, and help external LA fire relief organizations. This year, more than ever before, the theme of belonging and mutual support was at the forefront. The run served as a reminder that while fundraising is important, it’s the values of empathy, unity, service, and compassion that truly define the Wesley experience. Students not only participated in the run but took active roles in advocacy and outreach, learning firsthand the positive change that collective action can achieve. To everyone who ran, volunteered, donated, and cheered, your involvement made a real difference when it mattered most. On behalf of everyone whose lives were touched by your kindness, thank you for running for a cause with us. Kevin Elbo • Parent to Gavin (1st Grade) development associate

The Wesley Cup 2025: Swinging Higher Than Ever! We’re excited to share the success of our 2025 Wesley Cup Golf Tournament—an unforgettable day that brought our Wesley community together once again at the beautiful Woodley Lakes Golf Course! This year’s tournament was our biggest yet, with even more teams joining in for a day packed with friendly competition, laughter, and new memories. Our morning kicked off with a delicious breakfast and a round of signature morning cocktails, setting the tone for a day full of camaraderie and high spirits. The energy on the course was contagious as golfers took on exciting new games and challenges introduced this year, keeping everyone on their toes and amping up the fun. The expanded field of teams meant new faces, new rivalries, and even more connections forming across the fairways. As play wrapped up, the competition heated up once more—culminating in a dramatic finish that kept everyone at the edge of their seats. Congratulations to our 2025 champions for earning their place on the Wesley Cup and to all the teams who brought their best game and great sportsmanship! A huge thank you goes to Greg Plummer and the team at Best Ball Sports Bar for their continued sponsorship, vision, and incredible hospitality. Their support, alongside our generous sponsors, ensured everyone was happy, well-fed, and hydrated from start to finish. The fun continued into the evening with our lively family and friends reception. Guests enjoyed a fantastic buffet, festive drinks, and a raffle full of exciting prizes—making the celebration complete. Thank you to every participant, sponsor, and volunteer for making the 2025 Wesley Cup our most memorable yet. Until then, here’s to plenty more laughter, connections, and friendly competition—on and off the green. Kevin Elbo • Parent to Gavin (1st Grade) development associate

Where Are They Headed? As the request came in to write about the Class of 2025 and their high school placement, I asked others and myself, “What do I write about this year that doesn’t sound the same as last year?” I find it is really difficult to come up with a new view since year over year our students truly place so well and more importantly, find themselves attending the schools that not only did they hope to attend, but also those that are the best fit for the next step in their academic journeys. This year, our 34 8th graders applied to over 20 different schools and will be matriculating to 12 high schools. We are beyond excited for each and every one of them. The year prior, for example, the Class of 2024 applied to over 30 different schools (eight included out of state options) and matriculated to 17. So you can see there is a range and these back-to-back years represent both the top and the bottom of the ranges in terms of numbers of schools on their lists. As our students make their way through the application process, it might be that they are seeking a much larger school than they have experienced at Wesley or that they would like to continue in a smaller environment. They may be interested in exploring an all boys or all girls school, in visiting those schools which have very competitive athletics programs, or those with traveling robotics teams, a wide range of performing arts electives, or any other number of areas of interest. The opportunities are endless and are as varied as our students. Our job is to help our students and their parents manage and stay on top of the process and feel supported all the way through to the point of making their final decisions. By the numbers — 88% of the students were offered admissions to their first choice school and 97% to their 1st or 2nd choice school. Most of our students had multiple offers, many making a “clean sweep” — getting into every school they applied to. We couldn’t be more proud of the Class of 2025 and wish them an amazing transition to high school. We can’t wait to have them return in future years as alumni of The Wesley School!
