Grandparents' Honor Day

2022
WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY Joel 1:3

WESLEYAN

Dear Grandparents and Special Guests,

Thank you so much for joining us today for Grandparents’ Honor Day. Every year, we look forward to this day as it has become a special tradition at Wesleyan for our students and our school.

Our school mission is "to partner with families by providing a biblically-based, college preparatory education so that students will be equipped to serve Christ and influence the world" for God's glory. We strongly believe that your partnership and influence in their lives plays a vital role in achieving this goal. Today, we hope you enjoy this special time with your grandchild while learning a little more about Wesleyan and their daily activities. We pray you leave feeling honored and appreciated for the important role you have in their lives as grandparents.

As I think of my beloved grandmother and her impact on my life—particularly on my spiritual development—I think of the Apostle Paul's words to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:14-15:

"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."

Paul is reminding Timothy to remember all of the Scriptures that he learned from childhood. And where did Timothy learn the "sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus"? He learned them from his grandmother Lois and from his mother Eunice. Thank you for being here today. Thank you for the way you love and teach and invest your time and energy in your grandchildren.

We praise God for you!

“Tell your children about it, and let your children tell their children, and their children the next generation.”
- Joel 1:3

Sincerely,

OUR CENTENNIAL CAMPUS

For more than 50 years, Wesleyan Christian Academy has had the privilege of calling 1917 North Centennial Street home. Since 1971, thousands of students and families have made memories to last a lifetime on these very special 26 acres. During that time, our student enrollment and programming have grown extensively. In fact, this August, 1,271 students from age 6 weeks to 12th grade and more than 100 faculty members entered our doors prepared to equip and guide your grandchildren “to know and live the truth”.

"BLESSED ASSURANCE"

VERSE 1

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!

Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood

CHORUS

This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long;

This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long.

VERSE 2

Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight; Angels, descending, bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

CHORUS

This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long; This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long.

VERSE 3

Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest, Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

CHORUS

This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long; This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long.

"Blessed Assurance"

Lyrics, Fanny Crosby (1873)

Music: Phoebe Knapp (1873)

CHORUS

Bless the Lord, O my soul,

O my soul, worship His holy Name. Sing like never before, O my soul.

I’ll worship Your holy Name.

VERSE 1

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning; It’s time to sing Your song again. Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, Let me be singing when the evening comes.

CHORUS

Bless the Lord, O my soul,

O my soul, worship His holy Name. Sing like never before, O my soul.

I’ll worship Your holy Name.

VERSE 2

You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger, Your Name is great and Your heart is kind; For all Your goodness I will keep on singing, Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.

"10,000 REASONS"

CHORUS

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, worship His holy Name. Sing like never before, O my soul.

I’ll worship Your holy Name.

VERSE 3

And on that day when my strength is failing, The end draws near and my time has come;

Still my soul sings Your praise unending, Ten thousand years and then forevermore.

CHORUS

Bless the Lord, O my soul,

O my soul, worship His holy Name. Sing like never before, O my soul.

I’ll worship Your holy Name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, worship His holy Name. Sing like never before, O my soul.

I’ll worship Your holy Name.

OUR SANDY RIDGE CAMPUS

In 2010, Wesleyan acquired about 70 acres of land at 1946 Sandy Ridge Road through the generosity and assistance of a few very special donors. Over the last several years, the Lord has blessed us with the ability to begin developing that property. While our goal is to move our entire campus to Sandy Ridge eventually, one of the immediate needs for our school was to have our own outdoor athletic fields and facilities.

Today, the campus is home to the Millis Outdoor and Recreational Complex, which includes a beautiful baseball stadium, a practice baseball diamond, and batting cages, running trails, a soccer and lacrosse field, and an open-air pavilion complete with a grill pad for special school events. Last spring, we were blessed to complete the Ludey Leadership Course, which is a fully-integrated ropes course that has already been enjoyed by our students and faculty.

As you read this, we are in the process of completing a softball stadium along with an outdoor amphitheater that will be used for Academic, Fine Arts, Spiritual Life and Leadership programming. There’s no doubt we are excited about the years ahead and believe that there are many great things in store for Wesleyan Christian Academy at this special location.

"I honestly think the greatest gift my parents gave to me was sending me to Wesleyan. It has given me so many opportunities to build myself up as a person and I definitely would not be the individual I am today without Wesleyan." SydneyBuck Classof2021

FROM OUR GRADUATES

“Wesleyan has given me so many opportunities to … show the love of Christ, whether that’s Miracle League or Church Under the Bridge, or even sports by showing the love of Christ in the way we play. Even getting to pour into the younger kids here - that’s huge for me.”

“Wesleyan, at its foundation, is a beautiful place. The teachers, administrators and other students truly come alongside your child to help them become the best that they can be in a loving environment."
Claire Atkinson Class of 2022

LAYING THEIR FOUNDATION

From Dr. David Ray, Head of School

The Apostle Paul shared with the church at Corinth, "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1 Cor. 1:18)

As the Head of School at Wesleyan Christian Academy I have the wonderful opportunity to lead a faculty that desires greatly to point your children to the cross of Jesus every day. In fact, the Cross is at the very core of who we are at Wesleyan Christian Academy.

With this in mind, the "Laying Their Foundation" brick campaign was recently launched to help create a visual representation of our Christian faith at the heart of the Sandy Ridge Campus—the future home of Wesleyan Christian Academy. The centrally-located courtyard will be built in the shape of a Christian Cross using personalized bricks given by current families, grandparents, alumni and friends. This Cross courtyard will be a beautiful reminder to all who pass by of the reason for our Hope in Jesus Christ.

We humbly ask you to consider purchasing one of these personalized bricks. The monies raised will also help further develop our new campus with a beautiful eight-lane track surrounding our soccer field. Any funds received over the amount needed to complete these projects will go toward additional athletic and academic needs specific to the Sandy Ridge Campus.

Would you like to purchase a personalized brick in honor of a special loved one?

Go to www.wesed.org/support-us/laying-their-foundation OR scan the QR code to the right with the camera on your cell phone and complete the online form. You may also visit our Main Academy Office for a purchase form.

OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT WESLEYAN

Wesleyan Christian Academy, our families and students have been blessed by the humble and generous giving of individuals just like you through programs like these listed below.

ANNUAL

GIFT GIVING / SILENT AUCTION provides additional student opportunities in academic, athletic, fine arts and spiritual life programming.

FINANCIAL AID for families who may be in a difficult financial season. Two options are available: Wesleyan Scholarship Fund and the Endowment Fund.

PATRONS OF THE PERFORMING ARTS to financially support the performing arts department.

DESIGNATED GIFTS can be designated by the donor for specific areas such as academics, athletics, performing arts, facility enhancements, or our Sandy Ridge campus.

FACULTY ENDOWMENT provides special recognition, honors innovation, and helps support annual salaries/stipends.

PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO) promotes, enhances, and enriches our school by strengthening the bonds of fellowship among WCA families and supporting the Academy's teachers and administration.

TROJAN BOOSTER CLUB supports Wesleyan athletics by promoting school spirit, supporting athletic department activities and promoting Christian character development.

THE LEGACY SOCIETY

One way families have supported the school is by including Wesleyan in their estate planning. In an effort to formally recognize Wesleyan Christian Academy supporters who have demonstrated their generosity by including the Academy in their estate planning, we formed the Wesleyan Christian Academy Legacy Society.

Planned estate gifts to Wesleyan Christian Academy can provide support for the students currently enrolled in the Academy and for future generations; therefore, planned gifts have both short-term and long-term benefits that can benefit the giver, the giver’s heirs, and the Academy. If you have already included Wesleyan Christian Academy in your estate plan, we would like to recognize you as a member of the Wesleyan Legacy Society.

If you wish to talk with someone about these programs, please reach out to our Development Office at 336.884.3333.
