2021-2022 Reopening Guide

Dear Willoughby-Eastlake Families and Students Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. While we could not have predicted the pandemic and the impact it has had on public education, we are looking forward to welcoming students back to the classroom! As students return, we will be happy to see them join in pre-covid activities, such as hanging up their backpack in a locker, student participation in extracurricular events and working together to accomplish great things.

The changes to the current Ohio and Lake County Department of Health guidelines are fluid and we assure you we will continue to monitor them daily so that we follow the updates as they arise. We are aware that changes bring challenges to our families and we will continue to support your needs as your children return to the classroom.

We are grateful that the CDC has encouraged schools to return to in-person learning. As the first day of school nears we are closely following the health and safety updates we must follow as a school district. In the following pages we have highlighted these guidelines and how Willoughby-Eastlake will follow all mandates set by the governor, the Ohio Health Department, the Centers for Disease Control, the Ohio Department of Education and the Lake County General Health District regarding Covid-19. Please continue to monitor your student’s health each morning for any illness and remember that a

fever of 100 degrees or above must be gone for 24 hours or more before returning to school.

Together our district has handled the difficulties presented to us by COVID with strength and dignity. As we prepare for this school year, know that kindness, patience and understanding will be our most valuable tool and will lead our success.

What is HB 422?

Ohio House Bill 422 was passed this summer and restricts school districts from treating vaccinated students differently from non-vaccinated students.

What does this mean for your child?

If your child is identified as a “close contact” to a person with COVID-19, they will be required to quarantine, regardless of their vaccination status.

What is a close contact?

Wearing a mask: You are a close contact if you are within 3 feet of a person that has been identified as positive for COVID-19 for more than 15 minutes over the course of a 24-hour period.

No mask: You are a close contact if you are within 6 feet of a person that has been identified as positive for COVID-19 for more than 10 minutes over the course of a 24-hour period.

Your last day of quarantine is 10 days from the date you had close contact.

•

Date of last close contact with person who has COVID-19 + 10 days = end of quarantine.

•

If you test negative for COVID19 or feel healthy, you should stay home (quarantine) since symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus.
