Career Technical Programs:

Career technical programs are offered to the students of Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools through the Excel TECC consortium. They are able to choose from 27 career technical programs. The programs taught in Willoughby-Eastlake are offered at two Northern Career Institute campuses, located in Willoughby and Eastlake.

84% of the graduates over the last two years from Northern Career Institute Willoughby were employed, in the military, or participating in post-secondary training.

4,505 College Credits were earned by our high school students through dual enrollment.

The Willoughby-Eastlake Preschool was Awarded a Five-Star Step Up to Quality Rating

Elementary School

����� The Willoughby-Eastlake Preschool began the year with 190 students.

The program serves special needs and typically developing children (ages three through five years) in a variety of classroom settings.

The program identifies and appropriately provides for the uniqueness of each child’s needs, characteristics and abilities.

Our elementary students participate in 375 minutes of math per week and 600 minutes of English/language arts per week.

Students are able to participate in Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, 5th grade band, 6th grade band, 7th grade band, and 8th grade band.

Students wishing to participate in vocal music begin in the 7th grade and in high school they are able to participate in Mixed Choir, Concert Choir, and the A Cappella Chamber Choir.

All choirs and bands performed multiple concerts in their home schools and in the community at venues such as: Breckenridge Village, community parades, Classic Park and the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida.

Students at North and South High Schools competing at OMEA Solo & Ensemble Adjudicated Event, and OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Event (District & State levels) received several superior ratings and several outstanding ratings.

Student Leadership & Activities A well-rounded education includes a wide variety of OPPORTUNITIES.

Nearly 200 thespians from North High School, Eastlake Middle School, Willowick Middle School and South High School produced four plays throughout the course of the year: A Christmas Chaos, Alice @ Wonderland, The Crucible and Guys and Dolls.

The Dazzle Awards, modeled after the Tony Awards®, recognize outstanding musical theater productions and students.

School performers from South High were nominated for seven of the eleven categories and won the Best Costume Design Award.

Beyond the Curriculum In order to ensure that students have workplace skills upon high school graduation, students are engaged in more than learning just curriculum content. While in classes, students work on projects in small groups and larger teams, learn how to effectively make presentations in front of their peers and adult audiences, and learn how to be respectful and responsible toward others.

Willoughby-Eastlake students graduate with effective communication skills, solid decision-making skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Educational Alternatives for At-Risk Students through the Bridge to Success Program. � 57 students earned their high school diplomas through Without this program, these students may not have graduated. � Success Academy students had markedly improved academic success.

Fiscal Stewardship

Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools continues to provide a quality education to students while retaining its commitment to fiscal accountability. We are dedicated to the efficient disbursement of taxpayer dollars and work to ensure that the majority of those dollars continue to be spent on classroom instruction.

Auditor of State Award – WilloughbyEastlake City Schools won the Auditor of State Award with Distinction for a perfect audit in recognition of transparent operations and exemplary record keeping for the fiscal year 2015.

Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools is committed to pursuing vigilant spending practices in order to maximize taxpayer resources. Through implementation of vendor contracts, the district saved approximately $1.3 Million in transportation costs during the 2015-2016 school year. In addition to cost savings in transportation, Willoughby-Eastlake was able to end a budget deficit by engaging in a contract with Chartwells Incorporated. While providing superior food choices, this contract took the district from an average loss of $200,000 per year to a guaranteed profit of $175,000 per year year.

Fiscal Stewardship Saving Taxpayer Dollars Did you know? The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission recommended tearing down all Willoughby-Eastlake facilities due to building conditions.

Passing the 2015 bond generated $115,750,000. Funds remain invested until the money is needed to pay for new construction and renovations.

Students Give Back Students in Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools have donated more than $50,000 back to the communities in which they live, through fundraising events. In addition to cash contributions, they have collected more than 6,000 pairs of socks for homeless shelters, blankets, and more than 200 pints of blood.

Wellness Clinic During the 2016-2017 school year, WilloughbyEastlake City Schools and Lake Health will open an on-site wellness clinic at the Northern Career Institute in Eastlake. The new facility will be operated by Lake Health and will offer services to district employees and their families.

Food Pantry The W-E Care Food Pantry, run by the WilloughbyEastlake classified staff was created to assist district families in need. Last year, 104 families received assistance from the pantry.

Safety First: Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools works vigilantly to ensure student safety.

The district has completed the following safety measures: installed Raptor visitor management software and protocols.

• Adopted and installed All visitors are screened prior to entrance by a background check accomplished through their government issued identification.

• “Bull Pen” containment areas have been added to schools to limit direct access to students.

• ALICE (ALERT, LOCKDOWN, INFORM, COUNTER, EVACUATE) response

training has been completed in all school buildings, in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, in order to offer students and staff lifesaving tactics in the event of an aggressive intruder.

• MARCS (Multi-Agency Radio Communication System) radios have been

installed in all school buildings. These radios serve as a direct line to local police departments as well as the County Emergency Command Center in the event of a crisis.
