AUGUST, SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 2025

PRESIDENT’S Report

Dear Members,

As we enter the second half of the year, I’m proud to reflect on the achievements we’ve celebrated together and the positive momentum carrying us forward.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

One of the most recent highlights has been our participation in the 2025 ClubsNSW Perfect Plate competition. Thanks to the talent of our culinary team, Wenty Leagues served up two delicious dishes. Your votes and patronage play a vital role in celebrating our chefs and the phenomenal work that goes into making Wenty a top-tier food destination.

Our commitment to delivering an exceptional member experience has been further bolstered by continued progress on our renovation projects. These developments are designed to enhance the Entertainment Hub and provide new and improved spaces where you can dine, relax, and connect with our community. The upgrades reflect our long-term vision to ensure Wenty remains a dynamic, welcoming, and industry-leading venue. Stay tuned for stage two and three openings later in the year.

Financially, I’m pleased to report that we remain in a strong position. This stability allows us to invest in our people, our facilities,

and the member experience. As part of our support for staff and in line with national wage movements, we’ve applied the latest Fair Work Commission increases to ensure our team continues to feel valued and supported.

Whether you’re here for a meal, a show, a game of bingo, or a community event, your presence is what makes Wenty special. We encourage all members to take advantage of the fantastic offerings available across the club in the coming months.

Thank you for your ongoing loyalty and for being part of our Wenty family. I look forward to seeing you around the club and continuing to build on our shared success.

Warm regards,

CEO’S Report

Dear Members,

Welcome to another edition of The Journal. I’m delighted to share a preview of the exciting events and experiences we’ve prepared for the months ahead.

At Wenty Leagues, we are constantly evolving to deliver vibrant, diverse, and memorable moments for all who walk through our doors. Whether you’re seeking exceptional dining, live entertainment, family fun, or a sense of belonging, we strive to deliver something meaningful for everyone.

Our upcoming Father’s Day celebration will be a true highlight. We’ll be hosting a buffet breakfast in The Plaza accompanied by live music and special raffles, offering the perfect way to celebrate the dads and father figures in your life.

For our younger members, the October school holidays will be filled with magic, science, and creativity. With engaging activities including holiday workshops and crowdfavourite shows, we’re ensuring there’s plenty of fun for the whole family during the break.

Spring racing fans, mark your calendars, Melbourne Cup Day is just around the corner! Join us on Level One as Wenty Events host a special Melbourne Cup Luncheon, complete with a delicious menu and don your best attire for our Fashions on the Field competition. Prefer a more casual setting? You’ll also be able to catch the race action live throughout the club, with themed specials and an atmosphere that brings the excitement of Flemington right to Wenty.

Sporting fans can also rejoice as we prepare to host a great atmosphere for the NRL Finals season. Wenty is the perfect place to catch all the action on the big screen, enjoy great food and drink specials, and connect with fellow supporters.

And while we’re still a few months away, we’re already counting down to our Carols on Ringrose on December 9th, a cherished Wenty tradition that brings joy and togetherness to our entire community.

As always, thank you for choosing to spend your time with us. Your support inspires us to deliver the very best, every day. We look forward to welcoming you into the club soon to enjoy all that Wenty has to offer.

Warm regards,

Highly Commended, Recognising Community Impact & Wellbeing

At the recent ClubsNSW Clubs & Community Awards, outstanding community programs from across New South Wales were celebrated. Among the many deserving finalists, Wenty Leagues was honoured with a Highly Commended award in the Wellbeing category and named a finalist in the Social Inclusion category.

The Wellbeing Award acknowledged the club’s partnership with the BE UNSTOPPABLE Foundation, which focuses on supporting mental health across the Cumberland region. Programs that build resilience, promote open dialogue, and create safe spaces for people facing mental health challenges were delivered to people within our community. This recognition reflects the combined efforts in delivering programs that make a real difference in people’s lives.

Being celebrated alongside other passionate and communityfocused clubs was a proud moment for the team. Wenty Leagues extends its congratulations to all finalists and winners and commends ClubsNSW for its continued commitment to showcasing the powerful role clubs play in strengthening local communities through innovation, compassion, and connection.

Community Comes Together to Thank Our Frontline Heroes

The annual Heart of Wenty Emergency Services Day was held in June, drawing a large turnout of local families and community members for a day dedicated to learning, fun, and showing appreciation. The event honoured the invaluable work of our frontline heroes while promoting a connection between emergency services and the public.

Representatives from NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, St John Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, and the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) were on hand to engage with attendees. Families had the opportunity to explore emergency vehicles, learn essential safety tips, and witness live demonstrations highlighting the vital roles these teams play in protecting the community. Interactive and educational, the day aimed to both inform and inspire a greater appreciation for the services that keep us safe.

Adding to the fun, children were thrilled to meet Paw Patrol’s Chase and Marshall, while face painting was

another crowd favourite. The day was a celebration of community and gratitude, for the emergency services that serve the region with dedication and bravery. All proceeds went towards supporting SES Holroyd.

Serving with Heart: A Winter of Giving and Compassion

Staff and management from Wenty Leagues stepped away from their day-to-day roles to volunteer at Parramatta Mission’s Meals Plus program, preparing and serving a hot meal to individuals experiencing homelessness, hardship, or social isolation. The day was filled with compassion, highlighted by a moving word from Paul Moussa OAM, a dedicated advocate for disadvantaged groups, who spoke about the lasting impact of empathy and collective support. The experience offered staff a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by many and the importance of ongoing community care.

In addition to their volunteer efforts, Wenty Leagues delivered a significant collection of winter essentials gathered through its Annual Winter Appeal. Donated items, including jackets, scarves, gloves, beanies, and warm bedding, were made available at a pop-up ‘store’ run at Parramatta Mission, giving people in need the dignity of choice.

Winter Appeal Brings Warmth & Hope

As winter temperatures drop and the cost of living rises, Wenty Leagues has once again supported Parramatta Mission to launch its annual Winter Appeal, supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals across the community. The initiative focused on collecting essential winter items, such as jackets, blankets, socks, and hygiene products, to help those facing homelessness, financial hardship, or social isolation to stay warm during the colder months.

This year’s appeal saw an outpouring of generosity from staff, members, and partners, including Karabi Knitting, whose volunteers handcrafted over 150 beanies and scarves, along with thoughtfully prepared winter care packs. All donations were delivered to Parramatta Mission, whose team ensures the items are distributed compassionately to those in need and doing it tough this winter.

Driving Community Care Forward

Wenty Leagues is proud to support the Sir Roden and Lady Cutler Foundation with the donation of a brand-new 2023 Hyundai Kona to enhance the Foundation’s Medical Patient Transport Service Program. This vehicle will play a key role in providing free transport to medical appointments for individuals in the Cumberland community who are immobile, socially isolated, or facing physical, mental, or financial hardship.

Those interested in making a difference can find more information and apply to volunteer through the Foundation’s official channels.

Cupcakes, Lollies, and Lots of Heart: Biggest Morning

Tea Fun!

In May, Wenty Leagues was filled with warmth and generosity as staff, members, and guests came together to support Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising over $1,200 for the Cancer Council. Held just outside The Cafe, the event saw many members sttend and enjoy our homemade cupcakes and contribute generously by making donations and joining in on the fun of the lolly jar guessing competition, all in support of a cause that touches countless lives.

Funds raised went towards life-saving cancer research, prevention and early detection initiatives, and support services for those affected by cancer. A big congratulations to the raffle and guessing competition winners, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated.

An Evening of Support for Mental Health

Wenty Leagues was proud to support the Unstoppable Foundation Gala Dinner, a powerful and inspiring evening dedicated to raising funds for mental health programs, support networks, and educational initiatives.

Guests enjoyed a captivating live performance by speed painter Brad Blaze and heard moving firsthand stories from individuals whose lives have been transformed by the foundation’s work. The event was a meaningful celebration of resilience, generosity, and community, all in support of the Be Unstoppable Foundation’s mission.

A Day of Community, Footy and Family Fun

Ringrose Oval was buzzing with energy on Sunday 13 July as families from across the community came together for the annual Magpie Family Fun Day. With sunshine overhead and footy in the air, the day was a resounding success, drawing an incredible crowd of parents, kids, supporters, and community members. There were smiles all around from the carnival rides and petting zoo, while the face painting and pony rides proved to be huge hits with the little ones. Three exciting footy games also provided plenty of action for Magpie fans, showcasing the talent and spirit of our teams.

Thanks to the support of our community, the event not only brought people together but also raised funds for a great cause, Children’s Cancer Institute, reminding us all why Wenty is truly at the heart of the community. We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, and to the volunteers, staff, and players who made the day unforgettable.

Wenty Bowling – Winter Wrap Up

As Winter winds whip across the greens, Wenty’s bowlers continue to fly the flag with passion, pride, and the occasional eight-shot bombshell! Here’s a look back at all the action, achievements, and announcements from a busy few months at the Wenty Leagues Bowling Club.

Grade 4 NSW State Pennant Finals – Wagga Wagga Recap

Our Grade 4 Pennant side made the trip to Wagga Wagga for the prestigious State Finals in late June, once again representing Wenty Leagues on the big stage. While the results didn’t go our way, the boys gave it their all against tough competition. The Entrance topped our section with Beresfield as runners-up. St John’s Park won the State Grade 4 flag defeating Moree Services in the final.

But we did have two big highlights. Eddie Conway’s rink – featuring Les O’Reilly, See Fung, and Daniel Baitieri – pulled off an ultra-rare maximum eight shots on one end against The Entrance. It was a moment to savour and a silver lining in an otherwise tough result. And in Round 3, our boys mounted a remarkable comeback against Henty, turning a 14 shot deficit into a storming victory, scoring 24-1 light in the game, that crushed Henty’s hopes of a quarter-final berth. It was a classic display of Wenty Magpies grit and resilience.

In one of the most entertaining finals in recent memory, Nathan Townsend and Steve Baldwin edged out Kevin Furniss and Vincent Maree 24–19 to claim the 2025 Graded Pairs crown. The match was played in great spirits with impressive shot-making from both sides, but a late run from the eventual winners sealed the deal.

Consistency Singles

Played in gusty conditions that tested every bowler’s patience and control, the Consistency Singles final was a thriller. See Fung held his nerve in a dramatic 120–118 victory over Nathan Townsend. The final end could have gone either way, but See’s cool head and steady hand proved the difference in an epic contest.

CLUB FOURS CHAMPIONS – MEN AND WOMEN

Men’s Major Fours

The Men’s Major Fours final was dominated by Jeff Gallagher’s team of Dave Crelley, Warren Lambert, and Jeff Nunn, who played outstanding bowls from start to finish. Special mention goes to Dave

Crelley, whose Lead performance was nothing short of sensational and set up a memorable win over the side of Michael Brown, John Stephenson, Mick McDonald and Mohan Lal.

Women’s Major Fours

In the Women’s Major Fours, Marg Mitchell led her team of Joy Loh, Mary Zammit, and Sharon Walpole to a composed and convincing win against Cathy Quinn, Maureen McCann, Denise Sygrave, and Janice Patten. Their teamwork and discipline proved too strong on the day.

Senior Singles Final

In the Senior Singles championship final, Dale Maitland overcame John Stephenson in a match that started evenly with scores locked at six apiece. Maitland then shifted gears and gradually pulled away, delivering a commanding win with consistent draw bowling and mental focus.

FISHING

Our small boat trip at Greenwell on 5 March saw only 5 members attend, which was a low turnout but understandable given the weather. We caught a few bream in the river—only three or four. Outside, we had better luck, landing a good number of flathead, tailor, and even a gummy shark. A good time was had by all.

On 22 March 2025, we had a charter boat trip out of Kiama with a full crew on board. It was a fantastic day out on the water. While fishing was a little slow, everyone got involved. The standout catch was a pearl perch by Lewis, who also had the biggest bag at 3.4 kg. The new skipper, Lee, was joined by Rodney, the former skipper. The total catch for the day included: 12 Morwong, 2 Snapper, 2 Big Fish, 2 Longfin Perch, 11 Flathead, 5 Sergeant Baker & 1 Pearl Perch.

Our April 26th trip, again on the charter boat out of Kiama, was another great day on the water with the new skipper. We fished depths between 40–120 metres and moved several times. The day’s catch was 7 Morwong, 7 Snapper, 1 Pigfish, 1 Longfin Perch, 4 Flathead, 6 Wrasse, 9 Sergeant Baker, 8 Sweep, 1 Gummy Shark & the biggest bag of the day went to “The Doctor” with a 3.6 kg Snapper.

The 24 May 2025 charter trip was cancelled by the skipper due to bad weather. A makeup trip was held on 2 June, though no points were awarded for this day. Seven members attended, enjoying perfect weather conditions and landing a few quality fish. The new skipper and Dickie are doing a great job—happy to move around in search of fish and assisting with cleaning and boxing the catch.

Till next tide

GOLF

A chilly welcome from Wenty Leagues Social Golf Club, having experienced some very cold days and nights that have hit us with a vengeance of late.

To begin this month’s report, we played our annual foursomes event at Woodville with the winners being Jarod Simonetta and Marc Weyman and our runners-up Manatu Fatu partnered with Norm Hindy. After the event was our quarterly meeting back at the club. Thank you to all those who attended and especially thank you to those who contributed their feedback. It is always great to hear what our members have to say. I would also like you all to know that the Woodville course improvements have been completed which include the par 3 fifth hole,

B grade. Winner Jarod Simonetta and runner-up Paul Windon.

C grade. Winner Jason Childs and runner-up Alan Thompson. Congratulations to all who competed.

Our COW 2nd round concluded at Penrith on the 25th of May, well done to all those who progressed to the 3rd round.

We commenced our Stableford event at Glenmore Park on the 8th of June which is played over four weeks. It concluded at Studley Park on the 29th of June with the following results:

A grade. Winner Aaron Dixon and runner-up Rei Reihana. B grade. Winner Buddy Pirikahu and runner-up Rob Trent.

C grade. Winner Jason Childs and two runners-up Bill Hilder & Ray Johnson due to a tie.

Once again, congratulations to our winners, runners-up and fellow competitors.

I would also like to take the opportunity to officially welcome some new members to our club. Lucas Webber and Jason Childs & Josh Adams. Please do say g’day and make them welcome when you see them next.

We have had several jackpot holes go off since our last journal. Brian Adams on the 18th at Glenmore with 45cm. Jason Childs on the 14th at Leonay with 72cm. Kelekolio Fangupo on the 5th at Wentworth Falls with 71cm and Buddy Pirikahu on the 2nd at Richmond with 50cm. Prizes ranged from $55 to over $300 so well done to all winners.

So far this year, our guzzlers have increased to eighteen over our first twenty-six rounds. The first three clubman positions are Jarod Simonetta (107pts), Brian Adams (102pts) with Ryan Payne and Danny Chaiban on (89pts).

That about a wrap for June. We are always looking for new members so if you are interested or know someone, please check the sub club website for contact details.

Kind Regards.

NETBALL

Honouring Our Legacy, Celebrating Our Future

It is with profound sadness that the Wenty Leagues Netball Club community acknowledges the passing of our beloved Life Member, Deborah Toohey Pietrzak, on the 19th June 2025. Deb was not only a foundational figure within our club but also its beating heart. Her contribution spanned decades and countless roles, including Vice President, Umpires Convenor, and Registrar. More than her titles, Deb was a mentor, a leader, and a true friend to so many. Her dedication, passion, and tireless commitment helped shape generations of players, coaches, and umpires, leaving an indelible mark on our club’s culture and spirit.

To know Deb was to be uplifted by her warmth, her humour, and her unwavering strength. She brought people together with her kindness and led with grace and determination. Her presence was a light on and off the court, and her influence reached far beyond the whistle. Deb’s passing leaves a deep void, but her legacy will live on through every moment we share in the game she loved. Our hearts go out to her beloved husband Stephen and daughter Tee, who were the centre of her world. We share in your grief and honour Deb’s extraordinary life by carrying forward the spirit she instilled in us all.

Even as we mourn, the Wenty Leagues Netball Club has much to celebrate in the continued excellence of our players and officials. Earlier this month, six of our talented athletes proudly represented Blacktown City Netball Association at the Senior State Titles. Sarah Koroa competed in the Opens division, while Jiaan, Akur, Nevaeh, Francine, and Tahlia showcased their skills in the 15s. Each of them delivered strong performances, demonstrating the kind of determination, teamwork, and spirit that defines our club. Their efforts on court were nothing short of inspiring and impactful, and we commend them for their achievements.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to support our next wave of stars as they head to the Junior State Titles in early July. Mikaela, Nora, Elizabeth, Innez, Ana Sue, and Saraiya will take the court representing Blacktown, and we are confident they will bring the same dedication and energy

that Wenty Leagues is known for. We wish them all the best as they step into this exciting challenge.

Our club’s strength also lies in the incredible talent behind the whistle. We’re proud to announce that several of our own umpires have been selected to officiate at the State Titles. Nancy, Joh, Jiann, Isabel, Ruby, Elli, Cat, and Alyssa have all earned this honour through their skill, commitment, and professionalism. Their role in upholding the integrity of the game is invaluable, and their selection is a testament to the high standards we hold at Wenty.

As we remember the immense contributions of Deb and look to the bright future being built by our players and officials, we are reminded of what makes our club truly special: community, passion, and the enduring love of the game. Whether in celebration or in sorrow, Wenty Leagues Netball Club stands united, proud, and full of heart.

SWIMMING

We are currently on our winter break.

The Swimming Club conducts races from 25 metres to 200 metres catering for all strokes on a handicap basis.

We swim on Sunday mornings between the months of October to March with a short break at Christmas.

The pool is an outdoor hearted pool situated at Wentworthville Memorial Pool, Dunmore Street, Wentworthville (adjacent to Cumberland Highway).

We finish between 9am and 9.30am and gather in the Pool Club Room to catch up afterwards.

We welcome new members over the age of 18 years.

As all events are run on a handicap basis there is no need to be an Olympic swimmer as you swim against your own time.

We recommence our swims on the Sunday after the October long weekend.
