Honorary Doctor of Architecture
Trained as both an architect and an interior designer, R. Vickie Alani approaches design as one continuous experience. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. With more than three decades of practice across academic, multifamily residential, hospitality, and corporate environments, she currently serves as Managing Director and Principal of the Boston studio of Perkins&Will. Prior to this role, she spent years as a Senior Principal at CBT Architects leading complex, high-profle projects.
An internationally recognized voice on housing and residential design, Alani translates evolving lifestyle trends into environments that refect how people live, work, and connect today. Beyond her design work, she is a dedicated mentor and advocate for expanding pathways for women in design. She serves on the Women’s Network Advisory Board of the Boston Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors for Artists for Humanity. As a member of Wentworth’s Board of Trustees, she brings a perspective rooted in design innovation and community impact, continually supporting the university’s mission to prepare the next generation of makers and creators.

Honorary Doctor of Construction Management
Doug Karam, a 1983 graduate of Wentworth’s Building Construction Engineering Technology program, has spent more than 45 years shaping the physical landscape of the region. Prior to founding his own frm in 1990, he worked at Turner Construction Company in Boston. Today, he is the Founder and President of KVAssociates, a Boston-based construction consulting frm providing owner’s project management services across the healthcare, life science, academic, and hospitality sectors.
Karam is equally known for building long-term relationships as he is for building structures. A dedicated leader within the Wentworth community, he is a strong supporter of the university’s mentoring program and has served on the Board of Trustees since 2014. Currently the Vice Chair of the Board, he also chairs the Real Estate Planning Subcommittee, helping to guide the university's strategic footprint.
HONORARY DEGREE RECIPIENT: DAVE WAHLSTROM ’80
Honorary Doctor of Construction Management
Dave Wahlstrom’s work is visible across the Wentworth campus. After graduating in 1980 with a degree in Architectural Engineering Technology, Wahlstrom dedicated his entire 45year career to the university, recently retiring as Vice President for Business. His family connection to the university runs deep; his wife and two children are also Wentworth graduates.
During his tenure, he was a key force in transforming Wentworth into a residential university, guiding the development of the residence halls at 525, 555, and 610 Huntington Avenue. Under his leadership, the campus saw the addition of the Center for Engineering, Innovation and Sciences (CEIS) and the new Sweeney Field and parking garage. A 2003 recipient of the Gold Leopard Alumni Award, Wahlstrom also played a vital role in establishing the STRIVE Program and fostering strong relationships with Wentworth’s neighbors in Mission Hill and the City of Boston.

Sarah Carpenter has distinguished herself as one of the standout students in Wentworth’s School of Architecture and Design. An alumna of the Bachelor of Science in Architecture program with a minor in Business Analytics and a concentration in Adaptive Interventions, Carpenter graduated with the highest cumulative GPA in her undergraduate class and earned the President's Award for Academic Excellence. Recently named among the top architecture graduate students in North America as a Metropolis magazine Future100 recipient, Carpenter has built an impressive portfolio ranging from affordable housing for domestic violence survivors to an aquaculture ecosystem in Venice. She has also gained valuable industry experience by completing four internships across Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Deeply engaged with the campus community, she has served as an architecture tutor, SPEC mentor, Graduate Research Fellow, and the Graduate Dean's Student Council representative.

Architecture
Sonia Abdel-Fattah is a Dean’s List honoree and member of the Wentworth Honors Cohort, Sonia has demonstrated a strong commitment to both academic excellence and campus leadership. She actively served on the Colleges of the Fenway (COF) Honors Program E-Board, where she restructured the team layout and collaborated with fellow student leads to organize community events and programming. Alongside her academic and extracurricular achievements, Sonia has gained practical industry experience through professional architectural co-ops with Neubauer Ennis Architects and BF Architects. She is also the 2026 recipient of the Dean's Award for Design Excellence in Architecture.

The academic procession and the regalia worn by the faculty, offcers of the university, and students symbolize the continuing link between the modern American university and the founding of the great medieval universities in Europe.
The mace of the Institute symbolizes the authority invested in the president by the Board of Trustees and is borne by the president of the Faculty Senate.
The caps and gowns worn in the procession descend from medieval dress. The bachelor’s gown is a robe with long-pointed sleeves. Master’s gowns are arranged so that the arm emerges from a long sleeve through a slit at the wrist.
The mortarboard cap is the most common style and appeared in the 16th or 17th century. It usually has a black tassel attached. At Wentworth, the student wearing the red tassel is the Beatty Award recipient for having the highest grade point average of any graduate, and those wearing silver tassels are Alumni Award recipients being recognized for outstanding achievement.
Drawing inspiration from the hood on the habit worn by monks, the commencement hood demonstrates a student’s degree through its color:
Architecture – blue-violet
Business & Management – drab or tan
Engineering – orange
Industrial Design – dark brown
Interior Design – bilberry
Science – golden yellow
The lining of the hood, the portion most visible from the rear, indicates the institution awarding the degree — black and gold for Wentworth.
Solid-colored cords worn around the neck by students indicate that they graduated with honors. A gold cord indicates highest honors (summa cum laude), a red cord indicates high honors (magna cum laude), and a white cord indicates honors (cum laude). An orange cord represents the Engineering Honor Society; a navy and silver cord represents the Tri-Alpha Honor Society for frst generation college students; and a red, white, and blue cord is worn by Veterans.
