developing tomorrow’s innovators Co-op and Career Recruiting for Industry Partners The Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development at Wentworth Institute of Technology since 1975, Wentworth has been on the leading edge of hands-on, experiential learning through our mandatory co-op program. We are one of the only universities in the country that require all undergraduate students to participate in two semester-long co-ops, which provide them with invaluable opportunities to gain real-world experience prior to graduation. For employers, co-ops offer a chance to add hard-working individual contributors to their teams.

Because Wentworth courses expose students to practical, hands-on experiences from their first day on campus, our students are well prepared to make an immediate and significant contribution to the culture and success of co-op employers in industries that include engineering, technology, construction, design, and the life sciences. Thanks to their extensive on-the-job experience before graduation, Wentworth alumni go on to become diligent, respected,

and forward-thinking employees. Over the past several years, more than 50 percent of our students have received full-time offers from their co-op employers, and 98 percent of alumni are employed and/or in graduate school within six months of graduation.

The Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development advises and supports students before and during their co-op experiences to ensure they have the tools to serve as valuable team members with our industry partners. The Center hosts two career fairs on campus each year where employers can meet and recruit the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.

To gain additional exposure to students, industry partners can also participate in Mock Interview Days and Wentworth on the Road events, as well as the Employer in Residence and other on-campus speaking opportunities.

enhancing skills and knowledge Workforce Development for Industry Partners The College of Professional and Continuing Education at Wentworth Institute of Technology since our founding, Wentworth has provided veteran and novice employees alike with the skills necessary to help realize the visions of the country’s most innovative companies. Through the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), we help corporate partners address their individual needs, from closing skills gaps to facilitating leadership development.

We work closely with industry partners to develop workforce training programs for employees at every level of the corporate ladder, including technicians, engineers,

by Wentworth faculty, CPCE’s programs can be customized to fit any company’s unique needs, using online, face-to-face, and hybrid teaching frameworks. From specialized technology training in welding, manufacturing, or other skills, to tailored, in-house master’s degree programs, we offer a broad range of workforce development solutions for companies from all industries and of all sizes.

putting it together: wentworth and griffin electric In 2018, the College of Professional and Continuing Education entered into a groundbreaking agreement with Wayne J. Griffin Electric, to help employees of the company advance their personal and professional goals. Under the agreement, 20 employees who have completed Griffin’s apprenticeship training program will be eligible for up to 27 credits toward an Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Technology degree from Wentworth, as well as discounted tuition. Employees who have completed their associate degree will receive additional incentives to further their education with a bachelor’s degree from Wentworth, along with ongoing support and resources from Griffin.

supporting makers and doers Extracurricular Experiential Learning Opportunities for Industry Partners Wentworth Institute of Technology experiential learning is an integral part of the Wentworth journey. Virtually every course includes a practical component, and we provide students with opportunities to acquire hands-on experience outside of the classroom.

Our corporate partners help create these exceptionally valuable learning experiences. In the process, they shape the career trajectories of future industry professionals, benefit from students’ innovative thinking, and gain access to a rich source of future employees.

Center for Community and Learning Partnerships Through the Center for Community and Learning Partnerships, industry partners contribute to groundbreaking initiatives that not only enrich students’ learning experiences, but also make a lasting impact on communities in the Boston area. In the Co+build program, Wentworth students work alongside

employees from partner corporations— including architecture, construction, and design firms—benefiting from their expertise while completing a service project that addresses the needs of a local community.

Our industry partners also play an integral role in RAMP—Wentworth’s summer bridge program for Boston high school graduates preparing to enter the Institute.

RAMP Wentworth’s six-week summer bridge program allows Boston Public School graduates who will be attending the Institute in the fall to familiarize themselves with college coursework, form a cohort of classmates from similar backgrounds, and begin to immerse themselves in campus life. Industry partners are integral to the program, providing students with invaluable introductions to career opportunities in STEM fields through collaborative projects, presentations, site visits, mentoring, and other activities.

The Center for Community and Learning Partnerships (CLP) is one of our most valued partners in our joint mission to assist a diverse group of students on their journey to careers in the construction industry. We have personally witnessed their efforts through our interactions with RAMP students who come out to our projects for interactive site tours, and through our more recent involvement with a Co+build service learning project. Co+build Through Co+build, Wentworth students, faculty, community members, and industry partners collaborate to create more vibrant neighborhoods by bringing community projects from design through to completion.

Industry partners in the architecture, design, and construction fields have helped students revitalize community spaces, promote environmental awareness, and engage local communities in the preservation of our natural surroundings and living spaces.

Accelerate, Wentworth Innovation + Entrepreneurship Center Accelerate builds innovative thinking and entrepreneurial confidence, making a significant and positive impact on students’ career trajectories. By serving as judges, mentors, and advisors, employees from our industry partners tap into a pipeline of promising future colleagues, gain critical insights into innovative methodologies and best practices, and help students build essential career competencies. Students

develop solutions to real-world problems through initiatives like ThinkTanks, [Social] Innovation Labs, and the Startup Challenge, which offer companies fresh perspectives on some of their most pressing business challenges.

[Social] Innovation Labs These 12-week, immersive interdisciplinary experiences pair Wentworth students—the [Social] Innovation Fellows—with an external organization to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges. Fellows collaborate with dozens of thought leaders and partners to tackle a diverse range of problems our partner organizations encounter.

Startup Challenge The Startup Challenge gives students the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills within the context of designing, conceptualizing, building, and launching an original idea. Over the course of a year, students work in interdisciplinary teams to bring their concepts to life, with industry partners serving as mentors and advisors throughout the process, and as judges for PitchRound.
