A pioneer in educating women Established in North Sydney in 1886, Wenona is a leading, independent non-selective and non-denominational school with Christian values and a proud and pioneering history of excellence in girls’ education.

Our campus, above Sydney Harbour, opposite St Leonards Park and close to Sydney’s CBD, is an exciting blend of heritage and state of the art, purpose-built environments for teaching, learning, creation and recreation.

Learning beyond the classroom Wenona embraces outdoor education. Away from their usual comforts and technology, girls discover more about themselves and each other. Moving beyond their comfort zones, they experience the exhilaration of unexpected accomplishments.

Bravery, resilience Taking on ‘safe risks’ such as giant swings, high ropes, camping, navigating, bushwalking and nights under the stars, girls find they have greater resilience and self-sufficiency than they thought.

They develop confidence, maturity, independence and a deeper appreciation of the environment.

The world at our feet Many senior students take on further challenges, to achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards on the Duke of Edinburgh program.

Additional skills are honed as they take responsibility for packing, leading and navigating their journey.

Many students take part in local and international service learning tours, experiencing and learning much about their world.

We serve our community.

Ut Prosim, that I may serve Wenona’s motto guides “service learning” throughout the School. In groups and as individuals, girls of all ages consider and act on the needs of others.

Global opportunities Wenona’s global service learning adventures are inspiring.

Young women from Year 9 to Year 12 may contribute to communities in remote Australia, Asia, South America, Africa and Europe.

Our students lend their strengths to diverse causes. Their service is proactive, compassionate and thoughtful.

Junior School.

Discovery at Woodstock For Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2, purpose-built Woodstock and the Piazza provide a wonderful introduction to a world of discovery, where the excitement of learning is shared, curiosity is encouraged, and new skills are celebrated.

Learning foundations are formed among friendly faces and hands-on educational resources and activities inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. Every girl is known, valued and feels she belongs.

From their first day, girls are encouraged to discuss what they find, to unleash their creativity and to work together as they explore and deepen their understanding and mastery of the written word, nature, culture, the world of numbers, technology and more.

Belonging, playing and growing at Hooke House Growing in confidence, self-awareness and capability across diverse skill bases, girls in Years 3 to 6 explore more complex issues.

Mandarin is studied from Kindergarten to Year 6 and beyond, while French is taught from Year 3. With appropriate challenge and support, academic and social skills flourish.

Beyond their own classrooms, girls in Years 3 to 6 enjoy the use of Wenona’s science laboratories, visual arts studios, gymnasiums and performing arts facilities. Empowered by appropriate technologies and at home throughout the School, girls transition smoothly into Year 7.

After School Care is provided at Wenona by Camp Australia for girls in Kindergarten to Year 6 from 2:50pm to 6pm.

Girls experience music, art and physical education, learning respect for themselves and others.

Middle School.

Adventure, challenge, growth At Wenona, young women in Years 7 to 9 navigate adolescence with a sense of adventure and connectedness.

In and out of classrooms, within and beyond the curriculum, students are encouraged to pose questions and seek answers, to take responsibility for their goals and achievements and to work effectively as individuals, in groups and as leaders.

A growth mind-set Through ‘design thinking’, young women define and research problems, generate ideas, create prototypes, select and deliver solutions, and reflect on their learning.

Learning is tailored to student needs and is led by by the Dean of Academic Studies and Middle School Head of Teaching and Learning, with extension, enrichment and support offered by Educational Support Services.

Pastoral care activities are designed to promote relationship skills, effective organisation and healthy living for women, while local and international service learning opportunities ignite girls’ sense of purpose.

Together, we embrace challenges, celebrate resilience and effort, and are inspired by each other’s successes.

At Wenona, young women grow in self-knowledge, character, confidence and wisdom.

Hearts and hands: As a Middle School capstone experience, our young women may volunteer to work alongside remote Australian or international communities.

Senior College.

Worlds of opportunity Wenona’s Senior College fosters independence, preparing students for life beyond school.

Young women are encouraged to reflect on and improve their own learning, with impressive results.

Featuring a Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program, Wenona’s academic program draws on information and resources far beyond the School’s physical boundaries.

In the Senior College, outdoor education is linked to leadership and study skills, and there are sessions on financial literacy, driver education, relaxation skills and more.

Balance, wisdom, respect Wenona’s innovative Life Matters and Balance Matters programs address vital questions on mental and physical well-being for women, on standing up for what is right and on finding meaning in life.

Young women find balance in their lives, along with confidence, wisdom and respect for themselves and others.

Work experience, career education, cultural exchange programs and other international travel and service learning and leadership opportunities add excitement and meaning to students’ choices.

A home away from home.

Residential Program Boarders enjoy a central role at Wenona. Our Residential Program includes up to 50 boarders from Year 7 to Year 12.

Boarding has been a vital and valued part of our School community for more than a century.

With a “home away from home” feel, the Boarding House offers full, weekly and temporary boarding.

A great location Wenona’s central yet safe location next to green and spacious St Leonards Park is close to Sydney’s cultural centre.

With all the advantages of being right on site for academic assistance, sport training and co-curricular activities, boarding also offers fun activities such as excursions to nearby Luna Park, walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the Rocks Markets and Darling Harbour, and taking the ferry to Manly for some shopping and surfing.

‘Sisters’ for life Boarders make life-long friends with day girls and their boarding “sisters” from remote and regional Australia and overseas. From different backgrounds, they bring a welcome diversity to our global community.

Meeting students’ needs At Wenona, we welcome each student as an individual, with her own unique needs, strengths and passions.

As girls progress from Kindergarten to Year 12, the Educational Support Services team works closely with academic staff and the Dean of Academic Studies, Dean of Students, Heads of School and Heads of Teaching and Learning. We aim to meet the needs of girls requiring support, acceleration and enrichment.

Girls proudly represent Wenona in competitions such as United Nations Youth Australia, Tournament of Minds, debating competitions and more, with impressive results.

As students mature, Wenona’s Careers Coordinator provides guidance on post-school study options and career pathways. Most of our graduates gain entry into their chosen university courses.

We care.

From the moment a girl enters Wenona, she and her family are welcomed into a caring community, making friendships to last a lifetime.

Families at once become members of the Wenona Parents’ Association, enjoying friend raising and fundraising activities such as picnics, parent lunches, the Wenona Spring Fair and other festivities.

As Wenonians graduate, they join the ranks of Wenona Alumnae, an impressive and supportive network of former students of all ages who celebrate their connections with regular reunions, an annual art show and fundraising breakfast to support scholarships, and more.

When to apply Wenona welcomes applications any time after the birth of your daughter and we encourage early applications to avoid disappointment.

Wenona’s intake years are Kindergarten, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 7.

Places may become available in other academic years if a current student withdraws, however Wenona does not create or add any new places in non-intake years.

Our Wenona community warmly welcomes girls of all backgrounds.

Please ensure that you submit a copy of your daughter’s birth certificate, reference and her recent school reports (if appropriate), as well as any medical or other specialist reports and court orders or parenting plans as appropriate. The birth certificate and reference may be sent under separate cover if unavailable at the time of application. However, please note that these are mandatory documentation to support an application. Your daughter’s name will be placed on the Wait List for the relevant year of entry.

Overseas Students Wenona welcomes international students. They play an important role in the cultural enrichment of the Wenona community. Wenona is registered by State and Federal Government departments to accept Full Fee Paying Overseas Students (CRICOS Provider Code 02275A). For further information for overseas students, please contact the school’s Enrolment Office.

Fee Payment Options

Additional Discounts and Charges

Fees in Advance

• The enrolment process includes a $300 (inc GST) Application Fee and a $4,000 Enrolment Confirmation Fee. These fees are non-refundable and are not applied to Tuition Fees.

Pay Tuition and Boarding Fees for the whole year by the close of business on Friday 28 January, 2022, and receive a 1% discount on those fees. Payment of more than one year in advance by the close of business on 28 January means that you pay the 2022 rate for future years’ fees and avoid any increases in those future years, subject to changes in Government funding.

However, payment of fees in advance for future years does not attract the 1% discount. Extras are charged and payable each term by the due date. The 1% discount does not apply to payment of Extras. Please contact the Business Office for details regarding fees in advance.

Term by Term Pay each Term’s Fees (Tuition, Boarding and Extras) by the due dates as listed below: Friday, 28 January 2022 (K - 12) Friday, 6 May 2022 (K - 12) Friday, 29 July 2022 (K - 12) Friday, 21 October 2022 (K - 11)

Instalments Pay Tuition and Boarding fees by 10 equal monthly instalments (or 9 for Year 12 students). If paying by instalments, any Extras must be paid each term on the due dates shown above. Please contact the Business Office by the commencement of Term 1 if you wish to pay by instalments. An agreement, setting out the instalment amount and payment dates, will then be forwarded to you. Payments by instalment include a 5% administration charge, which appears on your Term 2 statement.

Fee Payment Methods BPay: Please arrange through your bank.

Cheque: Payable to Wenona School Ltd. Online via credit card: Go to www.wenona.nsw.edu.au and choose “Make a payment” found in the Wenona tab. This method incurs a 1% credit card fee.

• 10% discount is provided on Tuition Fees for second and subsequent siblings enrolled concurrently. This discount is applied to the youngest siblings.

• Extras may include charges for competition sport, private music lessons and other activities.

• An amount of $250 per family is shown on each term’s account as a suggested sum for a voluntary contribution to the Wenona Foundation. Donations are tax deductible with one receipt sent in July each year.

• Withdrawing your daughter from Wenona requires one full term’s written notice to the Principal. If notice is not given, one term’s fees in lieu of notice will be charged.

• The transfer of your daughter from Boarding to Day Girl status is at the discretion of the Principal and requires two full term’s written notice to the Principal. If notice is not given, fees in lieu of notice will be charged.

• Fees not received by the due date will incur an administration fee of $200.

• Except where stated, the fees and charges in this Schedule do not include Goods and Services Tax (GST). However, to the extent that any GST becomes payable in relation to anything supplied by the School, Wenona is entitled to increase its fees and charges to cover the GST levied.

• Full fee paying overseas students are required to pay an additional $6,000 per annum in the absence of government grants.

• An Overseas Student Bond of $15,000 is required for overseas students. This is refundable, subject to the Terms and Conditions of Entry, at the conclusion of studies.

Some families may face financial difficulties at some time during their daughter’s education. If you face such difficulties, please contact the Business Manager before the due date.

FEE SCHEDULE 2022 The Wenona fee is inclusive of many extras, including year camps, excursions and comprehensive ICT support. This approach encourages participation in these areas and minimises any extras billed to the term account. *There may be cases where it is necessary to partially recharge fees for select excursions.

Wenona parents take responsibility for the majority of the cost of educating their daughters. The NSW Government contributes an average of $1,566 per student for Wenona girls in Kindergarten to Years 12.

The Commonwealth Government contributes an average of $2,565 per student for girls in Kindergarten to Year 12. (Note 4)
