I am an undergraduate student doing my bachelors in Architecture , under the university of Karnataka India. During my studies I have learnt that determination and passion are some of the most important values to hold. Thanks to them every day i face new challenges.

With a passion for creating and a keen mind for creative thoughts, my inspiration is derived from what surrounds me. When you look around architecture is everywhere , it’s beautiful at times and sometimes chaotic and to be part of the creative process and to be able to bring to life these pieces of art is what i strive for.

St. Marks road , Bangalore City , India

St. Marks road is located at the central business district of Bangalore city , surrounded by urban landscape , with a green barrier along the streets. The main objective of this project is to revive vernacular methods of living , shown through materials and construction techniques . Creating a nook for traditional crafts in this urban setting.

Through an intense exercise of making figure grounds based on the site and program forces, the most reliable ones were taken ahead, which brought in the complexity needed among voids and solids through an irregular grid. Brought in the potential of having a dual access to the design.

SITE

St. Marks road is an important artillery road connecting Mahatma Gandhi road and Residency road. The surroundings house some of the most important landmarks of the city. With the refurbishment of the hard-scape of this portion of the city , the pedestrian movement has also increased , giving us an opportunity to blur the boundary between the outside and the inside and look at the site as a community

BRIEF

The studio confronted our personal opinions on climate change and its interrelation with Vernacular and Sustainable resources and further continued to study the ways where these ideas could be translated into a built form.

PROGRAM

The aim of the project was to revive the local handicrafts of Karnataka and shed light on the vanishing traditions of local and cultural crafts . Inspired by the pottery town of Bangalore , the project worked on creating a center for awareness through Interactive learning , Tactile and visual connect and learning the techniques of the crafts . The main demography of the users were the students of the neighboring schools , the pedestrian public and locals.

MASTER PLAN

The site being located within the central business district became a guiding factor to bring in a non urban experience into this urban context of the city. The design formed an urban crafts village with, pottery,textile,Channapatna* toys, and a handmade paper crafts center.

These craft spaces were placed along a meandering pathway with a central experiential exhibit used to hang and display the unique craft products. The Experiential exhibit formed a strong central viewing deck which connected the site internally as well as externally to the green scape’s. The Crafts village also consisted of a retail space to provide an income for the local members of the community . The sustenance is of these craft members and their communities are essential to maintain the tradition and culture of the city.

The internal spaces had panels instead of solid walls to create an interconnected environment with each craft center. Each center exhibits a unique panel wall displaying the specific craft . Terracotta panel walls for pottery , tapestry panel wall for textile and Paper panel walls for the paper craft center.

SECTION

The use of vernacular materials like Mud bricks increased the sustainability factor and aided in climatic responsibility with a self cooled structure. The bricks were used in the form of *Jalli walls through out the internal retaining structure and solid brick walls on the periphery.

Bamboo was used as the structural element holding the space frame roof lined with glass panel for natural lighting throughout the day. The roof also has solar panels on certain spaces to do its part in energy efficiency.

Knowledge and learning are a constant cycle . We learn from everything around us , the people , nature and the environment that we inhabit.

A school of design was the brief of the project, which comprised of 3 different departments.

The aim was to create a unified environment of learning , integrating the 3 departments as one through the built form. The plinth becomes a single connect and with green terraces that create visual connects among the various areas .

The site is located in Mysore , Looking towards the Kukkarahalli lake .

SITE The site is located in the royal city of Mysore. The plot picked is within the Mysore university and is currently the horticulture center spread across 8 acres of land facing the Kukkarahalli lake.

The site gradually slopes down towards the lake with a 6m difference.

BRIEF The School of Design , an applied arts school , which will provide a 4 year undergraduate program in 3 departments namely, Product design , Textile design and Visual Communication.

PROGRAM The main concept of the design was to build along the contours creating interactive spaces between the built and the unbuilt by alternating spaces.

Creating a floating structure to seem as though the ground is the solid structure and the built a lightweight floating structure ,with a plinth connecting the unit as one whole structure .

The idea was to create a school of design not separated by the 3 different blocks but to make it seem as a whole single unit when looked at but internally defined ,creating interactive spaces with a large foreground the built formed a “U” shape around the central foreground plaza space with varied landscaped platforms and *Kund like spaces forming a public edge *A kund is a small rainwater collection reservoir ,which now in the current Indian context is used a s communal gathering and seating spaces.

Green terraces created an opening from each studio or classroom to come out into the open and have open interactive study areas ,the green terraces also helped in preserving the green scape of the site.

The structure had large open plinth spaces with the built floating above creating a lot of space for public and interactive discussions and activity spaces like Table Tennis and coffee kiosks along with discussion boards placed along the plinth , the plinth was provided with a parapet seating spaces with only the entrances open to provide a highlighted entry space .

The staggered structure with green terraces provided fresh internal ventilation and a view to the Kukkarahalli lake .

A unique material pallet of glass solar panels as the roof helped in providing ample light to the core from above , highlighted red staircases and railings were used to highlight the core and louvered panels protected the core .

Communities and nature have been an integrated whole since the beginning, people are the reason , idea, users and thinkers for whom architecture is a mere tool. Settlements have always been influenced by nature around them hence proving that nature is the river that man has to walk along, not across.

The aim is to work towards connecting communities and nature through architecture.

The site is located in Jp nagar across the mini forest .

The project is a conservatory and research center for the sustenance of the local Bio-diversity.

High rise / Container living / Self sufficient micro city CTBUH - 2020 {Competition Entry} Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats Collaborative members: Sehaj Pannu Yukta Shetty Dharavi , Mumbai , India

The Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats hosts an annual Skyscraper competition. The goal is to shed a new light on the meaning and value of tall buildings in the society.

The site is located in Mumbai, India’s financial and commercial center and principal port on the western coast. Dharavi is one of the largest and most dense temporary settlements in Mumbai.

The aim of this project is to control the cost of construction in order to provide affordable housing to the needy.

An informal township, Dharavi it is a vibrant mosaic of social, cultural and economic activities.

The proposed prototype high rise complex provides for affordable residential units along with organized workshop spaces for learning and community activities .We propose to use scrapped shipping containers from the ports of Mumbai to construct the proposed housing units. ‘Modular coordination’, ‘standardisation’ and ‘prefabrication’. totype consists of 6 zones catering to the basic needs of a self-sustaining community. Express elevators will take the users from the ground floor to various sky lobbies which lead to different zones. The sky lobbies would become the ‘vertical’ street corners (chowks of Mumbai) – which have neighborhood stores, day care centers, vocational training units and others along with Fire Refuge Zones and Utilities.

One commune

Two shipping containers stacked together make one residential unit, which includes ,a living space ,a working space and a green space. This forms a small self-sufficient ecosystem for one family. Such residential units put together make a commune, keeping the essence of Dharavi’s community living intact. Each commune acts as a typical module. Similar modules can be stacked, for future vertical expansion.

The sky lobbies would become the ‘vertical’ street corners (chowks of Mumbai) which have neighborhood stores, day care centers, vocational training units etc.

The structure is made up of concrete floors and columns with a split central core consisting of fire towers and lift shafts.

The slab comes every fifth floor in the residential zone. The intermediate floors are accessed by a lightweight steel staircase.

This also reduces the energy consumption since all floors are not accessed by lifts.

The competition brief was to design a designers studio which can break the conventional model of a small office. The proposed studio is to be envisioned in a distinctive material character and texture. Emphasis being laid on the need to adapt and reuse building materials wherever possible. Rather than constructing something anew the entire project is proposed to be built from used shipping containers a as the key building material

The vibrant and playful structure is inspired by Piet Mondrian’s Composition with Red, Blue, and Yellow where the composition is reduced to the simplest of rectilinear forms, squares and rectangles defined by vertical and horizontal elements. The Interactive pavilion strikes a dialogue with its surroundings acting as a waiting space for commuters and a space for designers to exhibit their works.

The play of volumes in the café on the ground floor facilitates the interaction between designers and the public. The Private co-working spaces for architects have open floors plans fostering collaborative works. Sleeping pods and other recreational spaces are provided which caters to the 24x7 lifestyle of an architect.

BRIEF : Designing a quarantine home.

As a part of the Interior design studio , the Wes Anderson movie “The grand Budapest Hotel” Became the site for an quarantine home for the industrialist Mr. Ratan Tata. The movie was analyzed on various aspects such as colour schemes, textures,time-line, story , characters and such , aspects which represented the hotel itself.

Hence the hotel became our canvas in which we were to hypothetically design for our client.

The initial process started with designing a logo and a business card for the client .

The Client Ratan Tata , were to live in a home within The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The idea was to create a space in the stark center of the lobby of the hotel where his abode would be the central chandelier structure to the hotel. Placed in the center of the hotel the structure stands and a 4m height from the ground level of the lobby . Creating a strong central feel and giving the client the central attention. The entrance to the space would be from the main entrance of the hotel , from which a set of stairs would lead him up into the foyer and waiting space. From the foyer leads to the right the private spaces of

the house such as the living dining and kitchen. Ahead of the foyer , is the study which has folding partition walls creating an open floor plate. From the living space around the piano corner is an L shaped staircase-leading to the first mezzanine level which holds the library and lounge areas. Followed by a flight of stairs leading up to the second mezzanine which hold the most private part , his bedroom ,yoga space and bathroom , lead through a corridor space. His wardrobe acts as a partition wall . The Interiors of the design gives a homely and comfortable feel , which is to the liking of the client.
